WikiCup 2021 May newsletter
The second round of the 2021 WikiCup has now finished; it was a high-scoring round and contestants needed 61 points to advance to Round 3. There were some impressive efforts in the round, with the top eight contestants all scoring more than 400 points. A large number of the points came from the 12 featured articles and the 110 good articles achieved in total by contestants, as well as the 216 good article reviews they performed; the GAN backlog drive and the stay-at-home imperative during the COVID-19 pandemic may have been partially responsible for these impressive figures.
Our top scorers in Round 2 were:
- The Rambling Man, with 2963 points from three featured articles, 20 featured article reviews, 37 good articles, 73 good article reviews, as well as 22 DYKs.
- Epicgenius, with 1718 points from one featured article, 29 good articles, 16 DYKs and plenty of bonus points.
- Bloom6132, with 990 points from 13 DYKs and 64 "In the news" items, mostly recent deaths.
- Hog Farm, with 834 points from two featured articles, five good articles, 14 featured article reviews and 15 good article reviews.
- Gog the Mild, with 524 points from two featured articles and four featured article reviews.
- Lee Vilenski, with 501 points from one featured article, three good articles, six featured article reviews and 25 good article reviews.
- Sammi Brie, with 485 points from four good articles, eight good article reviews and 27 DYKs, on US radio and television stations.
- Ktin, with 436 points from four good articles, seven DYKs and 11 "In the news" items.
Please remember that DYKs cannot be claimed until they have appeared on the main page. As we enter the third round, any content promoted after the end of Round 2 but before the start of Round 3 can be claimed now, and anything you forgot to claim in Round 2 cannot! Remember too, that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them (except for at the end of each round, when you must claim them before the cut-off date/time). When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met.
If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article nominations, a featured process, or anything else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Regarding Foxiton discussion
I have added few more contents to Foxiton. Please do check.--Sanovepunchakunnel (talk) 22:23, 2 May 2021 (UTC)
- Sanovepunchakunnel - none of those sources are reliable or independent. Please read WP:NCORP and WP:COI, your company is not even close to being notable enough for Wikipedia. Spiderone(Talk to Spider) 18:06, 3 May 2021 (UTC)
Do you sleep, like ever?
Is it just me or any time of the day you're quick on your feet to do deletion sorting at AfDs? I'm quite active at nominating articles for AfDs and cannot remember when you'd not add a deletion category to one of my nominations. Very impressive work but do remember a minimum 8 hours of sleep is essential for good health! nearlyevil665 13:17, 4 May 2021 (UTC)
- nearlyevil665 contrary to popular belief, I do get some occasional sleep. I am on here way too much, though! Spiderone(Talk to Spider) 13:30, 4 May 2021 (UTC)
- @Nearlyevil665: don't believe it for one second. I have an investigative team working on the case to see if Spiderone deserves to be tagged with the Category "Wikipedians with Insomnia". He is more like a human-bot hybrid than anything else I have ever seen. I can be included in that category of insomniacs, btw, though I don't spend it all on here. I take naps more than solid sleep. Thank you for your contributions, Spiderone. I'm throwing the investigators off your trail, don't worry. ;-) --ARoseWolf 14:19, 4 May 2021 (UTC)

As I'm probably missing something, could you spell out why you removed this PROD? I don't see a previous PROD in the edit history. EddieHugh (talk) 17:13, 4 May 2021 (UTC)
- EddieHugh - if you check the article deletion log, a PROD deletion was logged for failing WP:MUSIC on 13 April 2006 Spiderone(Talk to Spider) 18:09, 4 May 2021 (UTC)
- Not something I'd come across before. A particularly stupid policy, prioritising procedure over content, but maybe no one can think of a better procedure. Thanks for the explanation. EddieHugh (talk) 21:38, 4 May 2021 (UTC)
The article Jade Bird you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Jade Bird for comments about the article. Well done! If the article has not already appeared on the main page as a "Did you know" item, or as a bold link under "In the News" or in the "On This Day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear in DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On This Day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. Can you move this Draft:Starea Nației to this Starea Nației because added some source and details. Cerberon-900 (talk) 13:55, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
- Cerberon-900 - my advice, if you think it is ready, is to click the blue button 'submit the draft for review'. A new page reviewer will then look at the article and assess whether it is ready. Thanks. Spiderone(Talk to Spider) 17:58, 14 May 2021 (UTC)

Hello. Could you please close the discussion at Training Center of Racing Club of Strasbourg? The verdict seems to be move to RC Strasbourg Alsace Academy. Paul Vaurie (talk) 16:44, 19 May 2021 (UTC)

Baikal ocean moved to draftspace
An article you recently created, Baikal ocean, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Hello good user
@Spiderone:. It's not right to tag my page quickly without your review. Finally I have to hope to shape the next pages. - Mohammadhoshyar - you may want to start by removing all of the references that don't work and replacing them with ones in WP:RS ones. If he is 'popular and well-known' then sources should exist. Spiderone(Talk to Spider) 11:20, 22 May 2021 (UTC)

- (talk page stalker) Mohammadhoshyar, Wikipedia can not be a source of notability. The fact that the subject has an article on the Persian Wikipedia does not mean they should have one on the English Wikipedia. Likewise, the fact a subject does not have an article on the Persian Wikipedia does not exclude it from having an article on the English Wikipedia. Wikipedia can not own source a subject. You must find verifiable independent secondary sources which give the subject significant coverage. The links, if included, must be working links to sources. Anything not sourced could be deleted or altered.

That sounds like a veiled threat. You may not agree but keep it civil. Thanks. --ARoseWolf 12:44, 24 May 2021 (UTC)

Hi my friend, I think you have tagged this article incorrectly. The article that was polled and deleted was different from the one I created.--Parizad (talk) 21:13, 27 May 2021 (UTC)

DYK for Jade Bird
On 30 May 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Jade Bird, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the music of Jade Bird was called a "young Londoner's spin on modern Americana" by Rolling Stone? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Jade Bird. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Jade Bird), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Thank you for quality articles about performers, in football including Lionel Messi, and in music including Jade Bird, for the Tiffany Doggett character and the Pork and Beans (song), for dealing with articles for deletion and creation, for "I completely agree. Please restore: Black Cats (band)
I am not sure how to contact you regarding is but here we go - Black Cats is a very important Persian/Iranian band. The information related to this band should be available to English speakers by having the English-language page restored. My guess is that the discussion that happened here - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Black_Cats_(band) - was among non-Iranians with no knowlege of the band and it's significance and influence on Persian pop. Please reach out to me for any information needed to convience you that this band is real and desrves an English page on Wikipedia as I am Persian and consider this band to be my favorite. - Maniravanbakhsh
