Small district categories in Category:Karnataka geography stubs
Greetings! Two or more stub types which you created have been nominated for renaming or deletion at Wikipedia:Stub types for deletion. The stub type most likely doesn't meet Wikipedia requirements for a stub type, through failure to meet standards relating to the name, scope, current stub hierarchy or likely size, as explained at Wikipedia:Stub. Please feel free to make any comments at WP:SFD regarding this stub type, and in future, please consider proposing new stub types first at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals! Wikipedia Ambassador Program is looking for new Online Ambassadors
Hi! Since you've been identified as an Awesome Wikipedian, I wanted to let you know about the Wikipedia Ambassador Program, and specifically the role of Online Ambassador. We're looking for friendly Wikipedians who are good at reviewing articles and giving feedback to serve as mentors for students who are assigned to write for Wikipedia in their classes.
If that sounds like you and you're interested, I encourage you to take a look at the Online Ambassador guidelines; the "mentorship process" describes roughly what will be expected of mentors during the current term, which started in January and goes through early May. If that's something you want to do, please apply!
You can find instructions for applying at WP:ONLINE. The main things we're looking for in Online Ambassadors are friendliness, regular activity (since mentorship is a commitment that spans several months), and the ability to give detailed, substantive feedback on articles (both short new articles, and longer, more mature ones).
I hope to hear from you soon.--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 21:53, 26 January 2011 (UTC)
The article Konappana Agrahara has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- does not meet the notability criteria per WP:N
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Why so serious? Talk to me 16:10, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
- If you are not aware, deletion request on articles on places have always failed. The place articles are traditionally considered as inherently notable. -- Tinu Cherian - 17:27, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
- Well I have come across articles on places that were deleted based on the prod. But per WP:GNG, Konappana Agrahara, does not meet the general notability guidelines. Besides, the article remains unchanged since 2009. Why so serious? Talk to me 17:34, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
- Really, then please go ahead :P. WP:GNG doesn't talk about articles of geographical locations. If you have been around for sometime, you would have known the non-consensus of notability guidelines of geographical locations and the status quo is usually maintained. So what if the article remains unchanged, there is no deadline for Wikipedia? Please go ahead and improve the article, if u wish so. BTW I have received a few complaints that you are biting new users. Request you to not kindly drive away new users -- Tinu Cherian - 17:46, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
- Oops, I stand corrected. It was on some areas of Bangalore. BTW, I mistook it for Konena Agrahara and proded it, sorry about that. To clarify, may I ask which new comer I have bitten? If I have I would have admitted the same. Why so serious? Talk to me 17:51, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
- Sorry, I am not accusing you anything as such But there were instances like [2] , [3] . I am not saying that user was essentially right, But as experienced Wikipedians, we should not overdo and assume that we are only right. Communicate with newbies effectively and be compassionate to them who come genuinely to help here. -- Tinu Cherian - 18:08, 29 January 2011 (UTC)

On geographical locations notability, I think these links should be useful to note : Wikipedia:Notability (geography) , Wikipedia:Common_outcomes#Geography_and_astronomy , Wikipedia:Geographic_imbalance#Solving_geographic_imbalances -- Tinu Cherian - 18:13, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
- Ok sorry! I take that as a suggestion and would not repeat the same again. All User:MikeLynch and me were trying to explain to him was about the copy-vio issue on Chowdiah Hall article and his additions of list of banks and shopping complexes to Girinagar. Apparently he did not take it in a positive sense. I was upset when he said bye and was not feeling like replying back for which I asked MikeLynch to do the same. What makes me feel sad about your warning is that just because it was on my talk page, it does not mean I was the only one involved, User:MikeLynch too was involved. I do not want to be made into a scapegoat please. I'm really upset on what you said now! Why so serious? Talk to me 18:23, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
- Hey no, Kindly don't feel discouraged or hurt. As I have said , I am only trying to help here. I have also talked to MikeLynch (privately over mail) . Sorry, If my statement also read as a warning, which definitely was not my intention. If you had seen my mail to Ashok [4], I have explained what is notable & non-notable to be added to place articles. No need to get upset too. Enjoy what you are doing here..
But please be extra cautious while communicating with other users and making deletion requests. Also remember to read this Wikipedia:Geographic_imbalance#Solving_geographic_imbalances. It is a very nice thought! Happy Editing !! -- Tinu Cherian - 18:46, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
- Just for clarification is there any way I can contact that user and apologise to him? Why so serious? Talk to me 18:42, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
- You may email him here -- Tinu Cherian - 18:46, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks, I will send him my apologies. It was nice getting in touch with you, but I wish it wasn't this way (my mistake!). Yes I did read your reply to him. I would definitely get back to you for any doubts/clarification cheta =(if you don't mind me calling that). Why so serious? Talk to me 18:53, 29 January 2011 (UTC)

- Haha.. I won't mind that ! Feel free to point out if I make mistakes. We all do .. and we help each other like this. Would love to see you, Mike & Ashok working together creating FAs & GA articles on Wikipedia. Btw if you are in Bangalore, why don't you come for one of regular WikiMeetups in Bangalore? Looking forward to meet you soon.. Keep in touch -- Tinu Cherian - 19:00, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
- I would definitely try and make it for one of the meetings. I too would be glad to meet you. I could not make it to the 10th anniversary meet as I was busy with my project. I have just sent Ashok a mail. I would be only too glad if he gets back. Bye, Why so serious? Talk to me 19:16, 29 January 2011 (UTC)

Protection Needed
Hi, please take a look at the article on Makara Jyothi. The article is poorly written and has serious factual issues. The Travancore Devaswom Board has recently confirmed that the Makara Jyothi is man made. I have made some changes in the article because of this. But I don't think it would stay on for long on the article. So could you protect the article? If it is too early to ask for protection, could you please add it on your watchlist? Thanks! — Finemann (talk) 20:12, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
WikiCup 2011 January newsletter
We are half way through round one of the WikiCup. Signups are now closed, and we have 129 listed competitors, 64 of whom will make it to round two. Congratulations to The Bushranger (submissions), who, at the time of writing, has a comfortable lead with 228 points, followed by Hurricanehink (submissions), with 144 points. Four others have over 100 points. Congratulations also go to Yellow Evan (submissions), who scored the first points in the competition, claiming for Talk:Hurricane King/GA1, Miyagawa (submissions), who scored the first non-review points in the competition, claiming for Dognapping, and Jarry1250 (submissions) who was the first in the competition to use our new "multiplier" mechanic (explanation), claiming for Grigory Potemkin, a subject covered on numerous Wikipedias. Thanks must also go to Jarry1250 for dealing with all bot work- without you, the competition wouldn't be happening!
A running total of claims can be seen here. However, numerous competitors are yet to score at all- please remember to submit content soon after it is promoted, so that the judges are able to review entries. The number of points that will be needed to reach round two is not clear- everyone needs to get their entries in now to guarantee their places! If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages, or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start receiving or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. J Milburn and The ed17 22:44, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
