3RR and sockpuppets
Tito, edits made by banned users, edits made by sockpuppets and edits made with the intent of vandalism are explicitly exempt from the three revert rule. Please don't scold editors for following policy. Ironholds (talk) 14:06, 19 May 2013 (UTC)
- Ah I just replied at ANI. Anyway, I could not figure out how they found that those IPs are sock of someone else (I was concentrating on that). But all the reverts were not vandalism! See this revert. Specially there was not any emergency necessity to revert this 4—5 times. --Tito Dutta (contact) 14:13, 19 May 2013 (UTC)
- It is not an AND clause. It is acceptable to revert 3 or more times if the edits are made by banned users or if the edits are made by sockpuppets or.... Ironholds (talk) 14:18, 19 May 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, I agree that "sockpupetry" is a valid reason to revert ( I mentioned that at WP:ANI). But, it was not clear to me how they understood that those IPs are sock of Nangaparbat, as there was not sufficient details in the main post there! --Tito Dutta (contact) 14:24, 19 May 2013 (UTC)
- It's a long time editor with expertise in the anti-vandalism field. Your first assumption should not be that he's broken the rules and inaccurate; WP:AGF is a two-way street. Ironholds (talk) 15:10, 19 May 2013 (UTC)
- I did not say they were inaccurate! And my post at WP:ANI was a continued one from their talk page. In addition, actually I was talking "for Darkness Shines" and not "against him"! From here "Darkness may get a WP:NOT3RR benefit if it is already proven that those are sock edits. But, the IP has no such benefit!" may make it clear!
- Also, if they are confirmed socks of that user. those can be added here --Tito Dutta (contact) 15:55, 19 May 2013 (UTC)
- Tito, neither suspected nor confirmed socks go on the LTA page, they get tagged on the user page and that is transcluded to separate categories. I know you were acting in good faith and I thank you for that. Darkness Shines (talk) 16:07, 19 May 2013 (UTC)
- Exactly! You and I have been communicating frequently these days, so it was just a friendly comment (note, I did not slap with any Twinkle's strict warning, nor I blamed you! In you talk page I mentioned the IP would not get any 3RRNO benefit. About LTA, in the inforbox there are some known IP addresses. If that user is using these IPs, those can be added there, in my opinion! --Tito Dutta (contact) 16:18, 19 May 2013 (UTC)
- Sorry, I see what you meant now. I added the new mobile he has (the 91/ range) which is allocated to the Three mobile network. My guess is he picked up a new sim card, no doubt he will return on either the O2, Three or his landline (BT). Darkness Shines (talk) 17:15, 19 May 2013 (UTC)

Image copyright
Hey Tito, I saw you getting involved in a discussion about image copyright etc on Moonriddengirl's talk page. I'm not really an image-centric person and wonder if you know the answer to the following question? I have a series of photos of my father's BSA motorbike that were taken by him some time after he bought the bike and before he married. That means, somewhere between 1955 and 1961. My father died 20 years ago and the other people who are variously shown in the photos are also long-dead (my grandparents and my aunt). Can these be uploaded and, if so, using what licence? I have no particular article in mind, so "fair use" is not appropriate, but one or two people have asked me to upload the things for whatever their reason(s) may be & I have no personal problem with doing so. - Sitush (talk) 01:03, 21 May 2013 (UTC)
- You can go and upload mentioning you own copyright of those image. Unless those images are highly valuable and any of your brother/sister/cousin comes ahead and claims they were given rights of those images there will not be any problem.
- If there are one or more identifiable people use commons:Template:Personality rights template! --Tito Dutta (contact) 12:30, 21 May 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for that. I hadn't considered personality rights - I don't think people can assert them from beyond the grave, although I suppose there might theoretically be a possibility if people who have been cryogenically frozen were ever to "return"! - Sitush (talk) 12:35, 21 May 2013 (UTC)
- Personality rights are applicable for deceased people too— The use of depictions of living or deceased persons may be restricted by laws regarding personality rights. In India no one cares about this right, don't know about US or other countries. --Tito Dutta (contact) 12:44, 21 May 2013 (UTC)
- OK, ta. I look forward to getting a writ from my grandparents! - Sitush (talk) 12:47, 21 May 2013 (UTC)
- Personality rights do not stop you from uploading images. You just need to add a template, see this image's description portion: File:01. Wiki takes Besançon - Photo de groupe.JPG Okay, go ahead and upload, and give me the image URLs, I'll do it after that! --Tito Dutta (contact) 12:51, 21 May 2013 (UTC)

How to upload images from Bollywood Hungama?
Nowadays, a tag of Bollywood Hungama is placed on almost every image (celebrities, events, etc.) published by the site. You can check it yourself. So, what is the way to upload images of celebrities from Bollywood Hungama? Bubaikumar (talk) 07:27, 22 May 2013 (UTC)
- you can upload only Bollywood Hungama events images (not wallpapers, posters), and try to upload un-watermarked images (i.e. where Bollywood Hungama's name is not printed in the image. About the process go to Commons and upload. Use {{Cc-by-3.0-BollywoodHungama}} as license! --Tito Dutta (contact) 07:39, 22 May 2013 (UTC)
- But nowadays, even all the events and parties images are also watermarked. What to do? Bubaikumar (talk) 11:11, 22 May 2013 (UTC)
- At the same time, if an image is watermarked, then can I crop a portion of it as it is done in the image File:Varun Dhawan Stardust Conference.jpg? Bubaikumar (talk) 11:21, 22 May 2013 (UTC)

Articles you might like to edit, from SuggestBot
We are currently running a study on the effects of adding additional information to SuggestBot's suggestions. Participation in the study is voluntary. Should you wish to not participate in the study, or have questions or concerns, you can find contact information on the SuggestBot study page.
IMPORTANT CHANGES: We have modified the selection of articles SuggestBot suggests and altered the design to incorporate more information about the articles, as described in this explanation.
Note: All columns in this table are sortable, allowing you to rearrange the table so the articles most interesting to you are shown at the top. All images have mouse-over popups with more information.
Changes to SuggestBot's suggestions
We have changed the number of suggested articles and which categories they are selected from. The number of stubs has been greatly reduced, the number of articles needing sources doubled, and two new categories added (orphans and unencyclopaedic articles). We have also modified the layout of the suggestions and added sortable columns with various types of information about each article. The first two columns are:
- Views/Day
- Daily average number of views an article's had over the past 14 days.
- Quality
- Predicted article quality on a 1- to 3-star scale. Placing your cursor over the stars should give you a pop-up describing the article's quality (Low/Medium/High), current assessment class, and predicted assessment class.
The method we use to predict article quality also allows us to assess whether an article might need specific types of work in order to improve its quality. The work needed might not correspond to cleanup tags added to the article, since our method is not based on those. We have added five columns reflecting this work assessment, where a red X indicates improvement is needed. Placing your cursor over an X should give you a pop-up with a short description of the work needed. The five columns seek to answer the following five questions:
- Content
- Is more content needed?
- Headings
- Does this article have an appropriate section structure?
- Images
- Is the number of illustrative images about right?
- Links
- Does this article link to enough other Wikipedia articles?
- Sources
- For its length, is there an appropriate number of citations to sources in this article?
SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. We appreciate that you have signed up to receive suggestions regularly, your contributions make Wikipedia better — thanks for helping!
If you have feedback on how to make SuggestBot better, please let us know on SuggestBot's talk page. Regards from Nettrom (talk), SuggestBot's caretaker. -- SuggestBot (talk) 12:16, 23 May 2013 (UTC)
Blocking an IP address
I think the IP address 120.59.6.240 immediately needs to be blocked. It has only made two edits in the page Girish Kumar and both the edits are just HORRIBLE and HUMILIATING. You can check it for yourself
- See http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Girish_Kumar&diff=556283588&oldid=556283320
- See http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Girish_Kumar&diff=556283320&oldid=556253111
What do you think? Such users are only aimed at damaging Wikipedia contents with bad words. Bubaikumar (talk) 17:06, 23 May 2013 (UTC)
- First, you need to warn the user. I have just warned the IP. Use WP:Twinkle to quickly warn. After warning 3—4 times, report at WP:AIV. Don't report now, it'll be rejected, he has only 2 edits! --Tito Dutta (contact) 17:45, 23 May 2013 (UTC)
Indian newspaper search
I've just used your customised search in an attempt to expand Vinod Jose. I got nowhere in terms of expansion but, hey, the search itself worked like a dream and produced many more hits than the standard Google job. Thanks very much for this. - Sitush (talk) 08:49, 13 May 2013 (UTC)
- If you please allow me and in case if you didn't know it already, just a tip. You can use all advanced Google's search operators like "Queryyyy" for exact query or - to remove something (eg. Sonia Gandhi -UPA) or my favorite one "Sonia Gandhi The Hindu" or "Sonia Gandhi site:thehindu.com" fo mainly The Hindu results. --Tito Dutta (contact) 09:06, 13 May 2013 (UTC)
- Not sure about the first, which looks weird, but I know of the latter two. There is a somewhat bizarre saying here in the UK that probably originated from the football (soccer) grounds: "We eat all the pies so you don't have to". It is far too complex for me to try to explain the likely origins etc - the Brit psyche is very weird, and the football subcategory even more so! - but just take it from me, you've eaten all the pies and saved me a lot of effort working out the recipe and wasting time eating them myself. Simple, well-considered tools such as this are an absolute boon and deserve a barnstar. I am not a big donor of barnstars but, hey, please have one ...
What a Brilliant Idea Barnstar | ||
This is for a lot of stuff, not just your recent efforts to give us better access to the awkward Google results for Indian news sources, although that alone deserves it. Keep on doing what you do. It is much appreciated. Sitush (talk) 23:48, 13 May 2013 (UTC) |
I owe you two bits of thanks! First, thank you for the invite to WikiProject India. I've already contributed to the area of Indian journalists by article creation (List of Indian journalists), article improvement of bios, or saving notable (IMHO) journalists from AfD attempts. Second, thank you for telling me about this amazing search source that I did not know about! And I too have been trying to expand on the Vinod Jose's article. How do I launch another independent search?
I'm fascinated by Indian journalism and the multiple language streams in which journalists there work. Is there any solution to my problem of finding sources in Malayalam (or even Telugu) language that you know about? These languages are not covered in Google search and articles in those languages are not accessible in commercial databases. Cheers, Crtew (talk) 10:17, 24 May 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, you can create another independent search. In case if it is related to WP India, please share it with WP India team. The basic code (the easier part) is in Google CSE. And then modification, placing etc have been done in my3gb. I did not use direct Google CSE page for following reasons a) I wanted to give a list of indexed newspaper b) there it was compulsory to sign in to Google account c) I wanted to customizes some links in that page. If you want I can share CSE settings with you (you have to provide email id where I'll invite as you an admin). But, frankly, there are 100 or something indexed newspapers there, I don't think I am going to make major changes there in near future.

DYK for Meghe Dhaka Tara (2013 film)
On 27 May 2013, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Meghe Dhaka Tara (2013 film), which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that the 2013 film Meghe Dhaka Tara is inspired by the life and works of Ritwik Ghatak who made a film of the same name in 1960? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Meghe Dhaka Tara (2013 film). You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Disambiguation link notification for May 27
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Supedi, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Gondal (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

What is wrong?
Titodutta, whats wrong? What was that for on my custodian page. Bye the way, I do not commit sockpuppetry and canvassing. Those users are my family members. Yingshong is my brother, Hommbo is my cousin. Titodutta, what did I do wrong? Did I hurt your feelings or something? Please reply at my talk page. --Aaqib Waramchoi (talk) 19:35, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
- A CU has said you are using socks. Defend it first! If you are asking your family members, then that is WP:MEATPUPPETRY, that is restricted too! And about canvassing, is tells not to request others to vote in your favour. You have done that too! I'll add a talkback at your Wikiversity talk page! --Tito Dutta (contact) 19:42, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
- Sorry - I did not know what meatpuppetry is. Oh man I (Draubb) is stupid, I just did meatpuppetry. I am sorry, please help me Titodutta. I do not want to be blocked for an accident. Please help me Titodutta. I am so sorry. --Aaqib Waramchoi (talk) 19:46, 27 May 2013 (UTC)

Use of Marathi language on Marathi Wikipedia
Dear Titodutta, I appreciate your concern of posting the message to me on Marathi wikipedia. I would request you to not to post English messages on Marathi Wikipedia. Some of the people on Marathi Wikipedia urge the use of Marathi as far as possible. If your messages are in English, I request you to give them to me on my talk page of English Wikipedia. Thanks. --Abhijeet Safai (talk) 07:33, 29 May 2013 (UTC)

- Maybe I was threatened at that time to not to talk in English on MR WP even at talk page. I was always against this. Thanks a lot for responding at that time. We can surely talk in English at talk pages at MR WP. Thanks a lot. -- Abhijeet Safai (talk) 08:01, 9 August 2018 (UTC)

Question
You have said that RMs are automatically included and monitored by a bot but I don't see anything happening with Mithunam (2012 film) or Rachcha. I am just curious ... Should we ask admins to close it? Nagarjuna198 (talk) 02:29, 30 May 2013 (UTC)
- I answered at Mithunam's talk page. But just in case... A RM can only be closed after a minimum of 7 days. Also, it should be closed by a neutral party. Somebody who voted in the discussion or initiated the discussion is not neutral. Tito is also neither neutral nor natural. Bgwhite (talk) 04:54, 30 May 2013 (UTC)
- @User:Nagarjuna198. I just closed the move discussion of Racha/Rachcha. It was a case of no consensus. Bgwhite (talk) 05:29, 30 May 2013 (UTC)
- @Bgwhite :Thanks. So there is no bot that automatically checks RMs like Tito said? Nagarjuna198 (talk) 06:10, 30 May 2013 (UTC)
- @TitoDutta: I provided all the info/evidence you asked regarding Racha/Rachcha but you never responded. Thats Ok. :-)Nagarjuna198 (talk) 06:10, 30 May 2013 (UTC)
- I saw your reply to TrioDutta! I asked for reliable government documents and you presented this graphic design work and asked me to change vote! RMs ae monitored by User:RMCD bot! --Tito Dutta (contact) 06:46, 30 May 2013 (UTC)
- * what about CBFC (Rachha) and google search only calls it "Rachcha". But none says "Racha". Anyway I will RM again. Nagarjuna198 (talk) 07:01, 30 May 2013 (UTC)
- You cannot request it again as it will be speedily closed. As I pointed out on the closing, the majority of reliable refs in the article say Racha as well as the official trailer. There is no clear-cut spelling of the movie. There are a ton of Google results for Racha and Rachcha. It would be best if you moved on. Bgwhite
