Please Take a Look at My Edit Request at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Rabindranath_Tagore
Hi Tito,
I have made an edit request of the Rabindranath Tagore page. Please look at it at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Rabindranath_Tagore and let me know what you think. In short it is a request to add the Enlish translation of Europe Provasir Patra titled Letters from an Expatriate in Europe which is now available for free from http://smashwords.com/b/147753 to the list of translations.
Thanks and regards,

- I've replied again. Can the Smashwords link be included if the work is released into the public domain? Once a work is released into the public domain it can't be removed! I've seen external links to public domain works on Project Gutenberg ~ Webmaestro365 (talk) 15:03, 10 April 2013 (UTC)
- (edit conflict)Yes, I saw it and relied there! I don't know about that eBook. Translation may have its own copyright. Details might have been provided in the book's first few pages. Before including a book, I generally check few things a) ISBN b) author's notability c) publisher d) license of online copy. Because of Tagore's notability and the research works done on him, we should attempt to gather the best links first! PD is not necessary, CC SA license is accepted too! A license is generally "irrevocable" (specially in Wikimedia)! --Tito Dutta (contact) 15:09, 10 April 2013 (UTC)
- Well, I am the copyright-holding translator and the Smashwords (publisher) license says, "Thank you for downloading this free Smashwords edition eBook file. - I can remove the phrase ″for non-commercial purposes,″ if that will qualify my book for 10.2. Let me know. On Amazon Kindle, the eBook is certainly no bestseller yet. But I have the problems of marketing and discoverability. I am a writer with little marketing skills if any. But I guarantee you quality. - Notability of the author is the issue! --Tito Dutta (contact) 15:58, 10 April 2013 (UTC)
- The "author" is of course Rabindranath Tagore. I hold the copyright by virtue of being the translator of the work in Bengali which is now in the public domain in IN, USA, EU and elsewhere. রবীন্দ্রনাথের লেখা য়ুরোপ প্রবাসীর পত্র বই আকারে বেরিয়েছিল ১৮৮১ খৃষ্টাব্দে। If notability of the "translator" is the issue, I forgot to mention that I hold the distinction of translating to Bengali from English, Mark Coker's Smashwords Style Guide which is regarded by hundreds of thousands of authors to be the bible of self-publishing. Since I had refused Mark's offer to include my name on the cover, you will have to delve inside the eBook, Smashwords Rachanashaili Nirdeshika to find the translator's name. In real life I'm known as অংশুমান দত্ত and my pen name is এ দত্ত ~ Webmaestro365 (talk) 16:16, 10 April 2013 (UTC)

- Yes, editor/translator's notability. A book published from Cambridge University or Oxford University Press by some academician, dedicated researchers is good to go. There are hundreds (if not thousands) notable works on Tagore/his works. Self-publish/publication without notability is not just enough to be added in "external links" section! --Tito Dutta (contact) 16:22, 10 April 2013 (UTC)
- Cambridge/OUP don′t publish eBooks unless I′m going wrong somewhere. So if reviews from theindiebookreview.com and Amazon UK don′t bring distinction to a translator, nor does a translation of the Smashwords Style Guide which Coker could not have uploaded without a very meticulous and time-consuming review by experts behind the scenes, then in today′s world there isn′t much ingestible reward for furthering Tagore′s legacy and as for eBook authors in general they better switch to porn or go extinct ~ Webmaestro365 (talk) 16:38, 10 April 2013 (UTC)

- Okay this time you managed to get it 100% wrong. I am not trying to get traffic for my website. You don't even know if I have a website. Smashwords.com is not my website. Nor am I interested in Smashwords's profits. All I wanted was to get traffic for my freely downloadable translation which has a dedicated page on Smashwords. It probably would indirectly attract readers to my profiles and my other free and non-free titles on Smashwords, Amazon, CreateSpace or Pothi including a par-priced very large print edition for differently-abled readers. But motivation is something very private. I don't see how a community with Wikipedia's declared ideals may want to thought-police a human being's motivations even if it is connected to earning a living. The law cares for what you try to do, not what indirect result you expected. Eg, if you kill some innocent bloke hoping to reach high heaven in the process, the law doesn't take into account your holy purpose to declare you a saint—at most it can seek the opinion of a shrink to determine whether you need pharmacological intervention or the noose. Similarly it isn't fair of you to investigate what consequence I expected. You should restrict you business to what effect linking to my free title would have on Wikipedia. However, you have clarified although only recently, that the reasons you refused to list my translation are that I am not a notable translator and my eBook is not published by Cambridge/OUP. However, I am sorry to see that it took you a complete year to apprise me of the complete criteria for listing an external link to a free eBook. You should have made yourself clear in Apr 2012. However, to give the devil his due, although I would not have made the title free so soon had I not been mislead by you into believing that Wikipedia generally links to free translations of Tagore's complete books, I now think that my removal of the price tag may get me interested readers in parts of the Internet not infested or dominated by you. Btw, since you were curious my websites are http://aucklandwhich.org are http://yourfilter.org. Thanks very much for your interest. AucklandWhich!℠ is a search engine for geoconfusables and YourFilter.org is a porn blocker tester I invented. Neither is a notable work. Thanks again. ~ Webmaestro365 (talk) 12:25, 15 April 2013 (UTC)

- I have tolerated your irritating comments for a long time. Stay away from my talk page and ask WT:INB or WP:ELN. You are lying too. Here you told— I am the copyright-holding translator and I made the book free on Monday hoping to generate traffic. Translators like me have a hard time getting traffic !--Tito Dutta (contact) 13:38, 15 April 2013 (UTC)
I will gladly stay away from you, but not when you accuse me of perjury and I cannot help it if you will be irritable. My comments are in perfect mutual harmony:
(1) I am the copyright-holding translator and I made the book free on Monday hoping to generate traffic. Translators like me have a hard time getting traffic
(2) All I wanted was to get traffic for my freely downloadable translation which has a dedicated page on Smashwords.
Perform a whois query before concluding that I own Smashwords. If you call me a liar again I may consider it necessary to answer again. If you genuinely want us to end this sweet exchange of thoughts you have to show a little respect and restrain yourself first. It's that easy! Try it!

Vivekananda
The verse about sampradayas is not irrelevant. It is just to point out that, as per authorized Puranas, Swami Vivekananda did not belong to any of the four authorized sampradayas. Hence I humbly beg to state that, his and others' (who are not inside the bonafide sampradayas, [as well as those who belong to one of the sampradayas and do not preach accordingly]) teachings are fruitless. I know Wikipedia readers will be unable to judge this, but someone still may be guided, by the verse. Thank you.

DYK for Kali the Mother (poem)
On 17 April 2013, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Kali the Mother (poem), which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that in the poem Kali the Mother written by Swami Vivekananda in 1898, the poet worshipped the terrible form of Hindu goddess Kali (pictured)? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Kali the Mother (poem). You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Another idea for the Bengali Wikipedia: Transport for London
Hi, Tito!
Aside from the Peel district I found another subject that could benefit from an article in Bengali. The en:Transport for London is the London government agency that manages the public transport there. I found that it has a website section in Bengali so it can help you write an article about the agency.

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. - Tito Dutta, unfortunately I do not have any English news for you; there was this one detailed article in English, but it seems it was archived and is not accessible. These would be the articles you're looking for: 1 (most detailed), 2 and 3, all in Bengali. There were also news reports on several TV channels, unfortunately I don't have the links bookmarked. Hoping this would suffice. Thank you.--Arman Khossain (talk) 13:17, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

- Thank you for making the corrections, if there's anything I can correct, do let me know. About the image, it isn't exactly copyrighted; I do not possess knowledge of how this works on Wikipedia, so I chose the best option I thought would fit. If possible, may be you can make changes, if required, from the following information - the logo was designed by owners of the community; being the manager of the community, I asked the creator to mail me a digital copy for Wikipedia, and he did. This logo represents the community, but is not copyrighted. I reviewed Wikipedia's policies for image uploads and thought it is completely okay to be with the article. Please advise. Thank you.--Arman Khossain (talk) 15:01, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

- Is not copyrighted does not make proper sense. Did they release it in public domain? If so, did they make any announcement in their website or somewhere? You can do multiple things! a) send an e-mail to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org with as much information as possible, such as who you are and where the document was published previously. Don't forget to include the URL of the uploaded image. b) somewhere in your website mention that you are allowing Wikipedia to use the image (under CC SA 3.0 unported license) c) in the image description page you can write that you are manager etc etc. BTW, do you have domain for your website? If you have, send email to permission team from your admin@mapping-bangladesh.com email! --Tito Dutta (contact) 15:08, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for your time and help. It is good to be able to learn for future contributions to Wikipedia. No, the community doesn't have a custom domain, in this case in your opinion, who should be the mail to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org be sent from? I'll get on to points 'b' and 'c' now. If there's anything else that should be done, please do let me know. Appreciate your time! Thank you.--Arman Khossain (talk) 15:21, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
- If you have printed pad, you can write on it and scan the paper too! --Tito Dutta (contact) 15:27, 9 May 2013 (UTC) The problem of not using a custom domain is anyone can send an email from gmail.com or yahoo.com id. BTW, since you are from Bangladesh, do you know what is the status of the film Camp? Afsana Mimi was making a film on Muhammed_Zafar_Iqbal's story! I want to start an article, but not getting information on film's status! --Tito Dutta (contact) 15:30, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

re: AFC/Dharma Realm Buddhist University
Dear Titodutta,
I appreciate your efforts in maintaining the both the relevance and neutrality/accuracy of Wikipedia, and know that it is quite a formidable job to play a part in the community.
However, despite these good intentions, the editors of Wikipedia come from largely a similar perspective with at least regard to one thing: internet usage, for obvious reasons. Thus, the perspective of Wikipedia can be skewed towards those entities covered by web-based media. There may be several forms of bias, such as supposedly valid references often including blogs or poorly-researched local news briefs; or a selection bias against sources (oral and written) not located on the internet.
As an example, the Dharma Realm Buddhist University is not a typical school from the viewpoint of college stereotypes. The students' days begin with the first activities at 4 am; there are no wild parties or Facebook pokes, as internet usage is not as ubiquitous as at other schools. (Indeed, some other organizations prefer a total or large lack of web presence.) The goal of the school does not include creating websites or inviting the press to cover its activities; rather it does not seek fame, but its activities are evident in the quality and dedication of the monastics who train at the school, the hundreds of books and articles written by alumni of the school, and the relatively high renown of the school among Chinese Buddhists in this country and in others (Malaysia, Taiwan, etc). Something does not necessarily need random online links to make it valid or real in existence. Thus, despite its humble nature, it would seem odd for the DRBU article to be rejected from Wikipedia.
As I am neither an employee at, nor student of, nor consultant for, nor paid by, any of the previously aforementioned entities, I have no deeply vested interest in this matter, and will conclude the conversation here regardless of any editorial decision on this matter. Thank you for your time.
