Invitation to WLM!
Wiki Loves Monuments - Pakistan | ||
---|---|---|
Wiki Loves Monuments comes to Pakistan! Hi Titodutta! WLM is the largest international photographic competition in the world and we are looking forward to expanding it to Pakistan this year. We have been planning to make this national competition really take off; but to do so, we need your help! Sign up at Wiki Loves Monuments 2013 in Pakistan and our mailing list if you are interested in being part of the organising team or can help spread the word. We look forward to hearing from you! |

Your requested move of List of Bengali films of 2013
Hello Titodutta. I see you made this move request which I was thinking of closing. You've also participated at Wikipedia talk:Noticeboard for India-related topics#2013 Bangladesh India WikiProjects dispute resolution. How about if I close your request as Not Moved, with a comment that you can reopen the request at any time if the discussion at WT:INB either makes progress or dies out with no action? Thanks, EdJohnston (talk) 14:53, 30 May 2013 (UTC)
- Ya, that can be done! Remove that "See WT:INB" notice from the bottom of the RM while closing, that can be mentioned at the closure statement! The closure will be incorrect (per RM discussion and INB comments), but, who'll move and copyedit 90+ articles now? --Tito Dutta (contact) 14:59, 30 May 2013 (UTC)
- Closed the request as not moved, without ruling on the merits. If you do get support to do this, I hope you can find some people to help you because a lot of material might need to be reshuffled if all the Bengali films need to go in the same list. Thanks, EdJohnston (talk) 15:17, 30 May 2013 (UTC)

Would you help me?
Hello Titodutta. I'm asking you this because you are apparently wise in the ways of DYK, appear sanguine, and are one of the DYK folks that I haven't insulted (I hope!) due to excessive nervousness about the DYK process, which I don't know well. (I have participated in DYK several times, think DYK is a fine thing (should be expanded to include newly-GA'd articles IMO though), appreciate the work of the DYK folks, and feel badly if I'm making extra work for anyone.)
Could you help me understand -- and even keep me updated, if you would -- on the status of the proposed DYK for Wikipediocracy. Last I saw it was moved to Prep Area 3 (which I'm still a ittle fuzzy on what that is), but it's not there now. Where is it? It can't be nowhere I wouldn't think. I think (not sure) that it was removed from Prep Area 3 because of the AfD.
What about the RfC? If the AfD results in Keep or No Consensus (which it surely will and quite possibly should), will the RfC be ignored and the DYK nom go forward to publishing? I hope not, but I haven't really seen a positive answer to this question.
(I'm assuming that this won't happen -- The RfC looks reasonable, and there's no consensus that such RfC's aren't valid where I have asked, and I'm confident that the DYK folks are men and women of good will and subtle thought -- but just in case (I told you I'm nervous about all this!) if you are "in" with the DYK folks, could you communicate that if it does happen, this would make me feel pretty badly done by and I would likely push the matter to some form of further discussion (which I hope nobody wants). You have my permission to preface any communications in this regard with "Yes, I know he's been acting like an asshole, but..." or somesuch if you wish.)
Could I receive your reply by return post? If you can't help me out with that's perfectly fine, but you could you let me know that soonest, and perhaps even point to someone who could? Thank you. Herostratus (talk) 15:08, 30 May 2013 (UTC)
- Hey, what's up? I am very busy with the recent death Rituparno Ghosh at this moment! The quick reply is— yes, if the RFC and AFD close as "kept" the DYK will go ahead! Read User:Crisco 1492's post at RFC. That was bang on target. --Tito Dutta (contact) 15:21, 30 May 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Herostratus, the Wikipediocracy DYK nomination is on the back burner (so to speak) until such time as the AFD closes (you can still access it through T:TDYK though). If the article's deleted, the RFC is moot. If not, it will be up to the community: will they prefer to discuss it at WT:DYK or at the DYK nomination? I personally think the latter is better, although some may disagree. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 15:27, 30 May 2013 (UTC)
- OK, thank you. If the is DYK is published the RfC is moot also of course. That would be huge problem I think; I think that RfC's trump DYK discussions -- that is mainly what RfC's are for after all, to let the larger community override purely local talk page discussions and decisions.
- I admit this a little different because we're not talking about an article talk page discussions, and this is a new thing since RfC has not been run on a main page item before (that I know of). But your statement "If (the AfD fails), it will be up to the community: will they prefer to discuss it at WT:DYK or at the DYK nomination?" makes me nervous. I'm not sure what "community" you refer to here -- The larger Wikipedia community or the DYK community? if you mean the larger Wikipedia community, they have estabished RfC just for this purpose. And DYK internal discussion are more set up to deal with technical matters (is the hook the right length, is the article the right age, is the article of acceptable quality, and so forth) rather than the larger points I raised at my RfC vote.
- Your comment "I personally think the latter is better" also makes me nervous, not because it's not a valid opinion (this situation is a little different from most RfC's after all) even though I disagree with it, but because others might share this opinion, including someone with the rights and inclination to publish the DYK.
- I think there should be an extensive discussion, maybe another RfC or something, to establish whether or not main page items may be RfC'd. But there's no time for that for this case. For all the nervous-making reasons state above, and because this is time-sensitive such that WP:WRONGVERSION doesn't apply, my inclination is to now go to WP:AN and seek guidance and help there. Is there any reason to belay that step, do you think? I don't want to make anyone mad or anything, but I also don't want the RfC to be published unless the RfC passes (FWIW, I think the RfC probably will pass if enough people go there, which is my answer to this conundrum, but I'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised.) Thanks again. Herostratus (talk) 16:13, 30 May 2013 (UTC)

Feel free to suggest an altblurb. I unmarked ready at ITN in part to give you time to do this. I support the nom only after reading the article--the only thing I can do in Bangla is count to ten. But he seems quite fascinating from the article. μηδείς (talk) 03:28, 31 May 2013 (UTC)
- I saw you removed "Ready". The removal was unfortunate. Frankly, (what I am attempting not to tell there), the article was updated and nominated within six hours of subject's death (a good number of newspapers did not publish that at that time), and for last 1 day, it is in the queue. A recent news should be a recent news. Anyway...
You don't need to read Bengali. Search in English, you'll get hundreds (yes, "hundreds", don't believe? see this) of news articles. --Tito Dutta (contact) 03:34, 31 May 2013 (UTC)
Re: Cinematic vision
Cinematic vision is much more important his sexuality. The sexuality has been reported in publications now and then, so needs some coverage (may be in a personal life section). But cinematic vision really needs to be further developed. I will be busy for, perhaps, next 72 hours, so may not be of much help.--Dwaipayan (talk) 04:12, 31 May 2013 (UTC)
- The problem is, I have hundreds of tribute type comments. But, not much details on cinematic vision! --Tito Dutta (contact) 04:17, 31 May 2013 (UTC)
- I did a quick google book and scholar search. There is a large chapter on Chokher Bali in a book, which may be of some help. But, unlike many other globally famous directors, he has not been thoroughly discussed in books. There may be stray articles in film journals, but I did not search very thoroughly.--Dwaipayan (talk) 04:26, 31 May 2013 (UTC)
- Actually I found two more articles on Utsab and Dahan, in Quarterly Review of Film and Video. But unable to read those right now.--Dwaipayan (talk) 04:30, 31 May 2013 (UTC)

- I sent you PDFs. Did you receive? Also, added advertisement career section in the article. Please add references. There are I guess at least two article in today's anandabazar that mentioned his advertisement career in some detail.--Dwaipayan (talk) 04:58, 31 May 2013 (UTC)
- Checing ABP! You have not sent me URLs of those docs! So, if I add it'll bee ofline sources! Please do it when you have time! --Tito Dutta (contact) 05:04, 31 May 2013 (UTC)

Your revert
नमस्ते! Though I added a Hindi transliteration for the first time here, I did not expect a revert. Can I have a reason? I do not think adding a transliteration is so controversial that it has had a concensus... And if it has been so controversial, where was that concensus reached (link)? Expecting a prompt reply. अलविदा!—Шαмıq ☪ тαʟκ✍ @ 07:36, 31 May 2013 (UTC)

Hello Titodutta. You have opened a move review at Wikipedia:Move review#Sanjeev Nanda. Since that time, someone else moved the article to Sanjeev Nanda hit-and-run case. If you find that to be an acceptable title, would you consider asking for your move review to be closed? If I see there is no objection, I'll tidy up the discussions. Thanks, EdJohnston (talk) 15:18, 31 May 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, it can be closed now! --Tito Dutta (talk • contributions • email) 20:01, 31 May 2013 (UTC)
- I have closed the move review per this edit and I hope this takes care of everything. Thank you, Tito. EdJohnston (talk) 23:16, 31 May 2013 (UTC)
Tweets of Bengali actors should be removed in favour of other well known actors who can claim to have been directed by him. Have the whole list, then remove on a judicious basis. This call for no more tweets is kinda dictatorial. Plus, there's no logic to remove Raima's tweet when we can have those of other Bengali actresses of lesser countrywide fame. DebashisMTalk 06:31, 1 June 2013 (UTC)
- I just got your "thanks". Anyway, a) yes, there are already 4 or 5 tweets, so, no more tweet in the section. One can replace one, but, no more addition b) those are selected tweets, every subject, every topic has multiple speakers, generally one or two are quoted randomly c) the section will be removed later specially if a free image of Ghosh's funeral procession is found! --Tito Dutta (talk • contributions • email) 06:37, 1 June 2013 (UTC)
Ghosh's personal life
I got your note and having read a bunch of articles where his sexuality WAS mentioned, and since he is now dead, the standard for what we say about him on wikipedia is somewhat different than it would be for a living person. I recognise that he worked in an area of the world where sexuality and LGBT issues aren't often discussed. However, the question we editors should ask, discuss and think about is whether or not future readers of the English Language article here should KNOW about how he chose to self-identify. It seems he wanted to self-identify as not merely "gay" but Transgendered. There is a project for that and perhaps they should be brought into the discussion. I am open to all views. I would like to see a photo that represented Gosh as he was shortly before he died since he went to great lengths to alter his appearance. It would be like Lana Wachowski dying and no mention of her as Lana or [hotos of her looking like Lana, and only the name Larry being used along with photos of Lana before her sugeries. That may not be a perfect comparison because Lana Wachowski's transition from man to woman wasn't analogous nor a lifelong issue, but still - in the end, isn't it how the person self-identified that matters, even if they had to be somewhat circumspect about it, as stated in this article here [1] ? I'll just read and listen for a while. LiPollis (talk) 11:14, 1 June 2013 (UTC)
- If you read Rituparno Ghosh#Death, it slightly touches the topic. I expanded and copyedited the whole article and asked User:Dwaipayanc to write on the above-mentioned part. Yesterday's Anandabazar and The Times of India had detailed coverages on it! Yes, that can be added and in my opinion, should be added! A new section on "Personal life" can be started! About image, it is difficult to get one, see if you get something in Bollywood Hungama! --Tito Dutta (talk • contributions • email) 11:25, 1 June 2013 (UTC)
- Right now I am one mobile device, and its very painstaking to add the sources in correct reference format, so kept that pending for later (or others). Regarding h2 level for personal life, other option could be to add this info within a section names Early and personal life.--Dwaipayan (talk) 15:13, 1 June 2013 (UTC)
- It is my opinion not to add unsourced content in that article right now, specially if it is sensitive information. About "Early life", I have not found any other information, about Personal life, you know I am reluctant to write there! It will be great if you prepare the section in the sandbox first. You can write in your and my sandbox with just giving the reference link, I'll format and ad later giving attribution! Do not take "editing in sandbox" in a wrong way. I too when edited those Filmography, Awards sections in sandbox! --Tito Dutta (talk • contributions • email) 15:19, 1 June 2013 (UTC)
- Now done with refs. The technical issue (h2 heading) is not much important in n evolving article (compared to, say, a candidate in FAC).--Dwaipayan (talk) 15:29, 1 June 2013 (UTC)

Oh?
Hi,TitoDutta what do you really want?BSF had 215 man?The link does not work.BDR had 17 it did not work, finally the source which is provided about causality says the BSF dead is 15,not 16.
You said me about unsourced change,is not the information given in info box is without source?
So what is the problem?Ovsek (talk) 14:35, 1 June 2013 (UTC)
- & Your change was unsourced! The figures had source, and you suddenly changed to "unknown" without adding any source! --Tito Dutta (talk • contributions • email) 14:37, 1 June 2013 (UTC)
But is not that source that says BSF strength was 215 and BDR had 17 is dead?So it should be unknown. By the way the source is given in Causality information says BSF dead was 15 not 16.Ovsek (talk) 14:59, 1 June 2013 (UTC)
- Add space after punctuations! "Unknown" in infobox does not make sense. You can discuss at WT:INB --Tito Dutta (talk • contributions • email) 15:04, 1 June 2013 (UTC)
The source saying 215 and 17 is dead. How can we accept the dead link,we are no longer able to explain it,and for causality what about it?You always said to give source, now why you are not approving the source given in causality info box? If we cant give any good source about strength then we should exclude that completely.Ovsek (talk) 15:16, 1 June 2013 (UTC)
- Please add space after punctuation! Changing information because a source is dead is not acceptable. If you want to change information find new source! And if you want to exclude it, delete the information, don't replace with "unknown". When you say "unknown" in the infobox, it means, the number is not known! Can you understand? --Tito Dutta (talk • contributions • email) 15:25, 1 June 2013 (UTC)
So I am doing that, hope this not vandalism.I am deleting the strength information box. Also there are plenty of war articles without strength,"Unknown" thank you.Ovsek (talk) 15:29, 1 June 2013 (UTC)
- Why aren't you adding space after punctuations? In talk page it does not matter, but, in article, it'll be problematic! --Tito Dutta (talk • contributions • email) 15:36, 1 June 2013 (UTC)
Exclamation points
Hi. :) It appears that English may not be your primary language. For native speakers, exclamation points (!) tend to come off as unnecessarily aggressive in online communication, and thus are hardly used. I would encourage you to limit your usage of this punctuation mark to only those cases where you are really exclaiming something. Cheers. -Nathan Johnson (talk) 15:26, 1 June 2013 (UTC)
- See Your Dictionary Grammar, Dalmolin's Grammar tutorial, From the first linked page— They (exclamation marks) are also used to express surprise, astonishment, or any other such strong emotion.! --Tito Dutta (talk • contributions • email) 15:34, 1 June 2013 (UTC)

I took initial steps with the Chelishev article. In the meantime I found an article you might like:

Regarding E. P. Chelishev, is it a rough translation of the Russian article? If so I can notify the Russia WikiProject and RussiN speaking editors can take a look. Because I don't know Russian, and auto translation is hit or miss, it's good to get Russian speakers involved WhisperToMe (talk) 05:20, 2 June 2013 (UTC)

- Apologies, in this month whenever I am planning some DYKs, other editors are moving article, and the DYKs are getting struck. That Wikipedia search page does not matter. Not only the RKM source, the Hindi source added in the article said "E. P. Chelishev" (not same spelling, it was in Hindi). Subject is a notable Indologist too who spent 30 years to spend and research on Swami Vivekananda, and in India E. P. Chelishev is common name too! See 1 2.
In addition, can you copyedit the article a bit, specially the biography section? --Tito Dutta (talk • contributions • email) 06:26, 2 June 2013 (UTC)

- Well, well. Following your logic, the article Alexander Pushkin should be moved to A. S. Pushkin, because it is a common abbreviation in the Russian sources. Sealle (talk) 06:42, 2 June 2013 (UTC)
- @User:Titodutta I am the IP who requested the DYK. I suggest the spelling of User:Sealle. Since the Russian Ambassador source is the only authentic spelling here. Professor Chelysev is authentic and notable in his own right. Sure he was a follower of Vivekananda but that does not mean that RKM spelling of Chelysev becomes authentic. It is wrong in my view to attribute a wrong Indian version to his name(I am also A Indian). Sure you understand what I mean to say. 223.231.7.226 (talk) 06:46, 2 June 2013 (UTC)

- I see no reason to use an acronym when the original name is well known and the initials are not used as a nickname. As for Chelyshev — I hope there are enough links above to prove that. Sealle (talk) 07:13, 2 June 2013 (UTC)

- WP:NCP: If the version of an article name with the first and middle names written in full is used nearly as often as the version with abbreviated names followed by a period, prefer the version with these names written in full. Example: Johann Sebastian Bach and not J. S. Bach, although the latter has more Google hits. So the initials, I am sorry, look ridiculous. As for Y or I, pls see [2] and [3]. And it's not easy to choose a first name transliteration, see these links. Sealle (talk) 12:54, 2 June 2013 (UTC)
- Okay, I have reverted my edit and moved to the title you wanted. I have added the initials in bracket (like Eugene Petrovich Chelyshev or E. P. Chelyshev (Russian: Евгений Петрович Челышев, born 27 October 1921) is a Russian indologist), is it all right? Else you can remove the initials too! --Tito Dutta (talk • contributions • email) 13:02, 2 June 2013 (UTC)

Hi, Tito. Could you please copyedit Jab Tak Hai Jaan, because I am hoping to take it to GA after a couple of weeks. Thanks ----Plea$ant 1623 ✉ 06:53, 2 June 2013 (UTC)
- Yash sahab's last picture! I'll have a look! I don't think I'll be able to spend lots of time! But, I'll try to edit every now and then. In my opinion, cast section's info can be taken to Casting! --Tito Dutta (talk • contributions • email) 06:58, 2 June 2013 (UTC)

- By the way, do think that the Awards should be merged into List of accolades received by Jab Tak Hai Jaan. The contents of the article were brought back into the parent article on end-December, but the list has marginally grown now.----Plea$ant 1623 ✉ 07:30, 2 June 2013 (UTC)

Are you thinking of FA or GA? Of course FA nomination is possible without formally being a GA, but a bit adventurous. Given that it failed GA nom last time, I think a GA trial would be better first. Eventual FA may be done with a goal for September, or, January.--Dwaipayan (talk) 02:52, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, that can be done as well! Please nominate the article if you think it is ready. --Tito Dutta (talk • contributions • email) 02:55, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
- Aince I haven't read it recently, I don't know. But it seems ready, on a quick look, for GA. Since you have been the main contributor, and recent contributor, too, you can go ahead with nominating for GA. Meanwhile, I will try to have a go at the article.--Dwaipayan (talk) 03:01, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
- No, my Shonir sare sati is going on! Already I have nominated once and it failed. I do not want to take risk again for this important article in Swami Ji's 150th birthday! You go ahead! --Tito Dutta (talk • contributions • email) 03:06, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
- I am afraid the prose is not up to the mark. I read just the first few paragraphs. It's choppy at places. At places, it reads very colloquial, the way we speak English in our daily life in Kolkata. The prose is not yet of good standard.--Dwaipayan (talk) 04:11, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
- Malleus's Kahaani remarks are chasing you. Anyway, ya, we can work on the prose quality --Tito Dutta (talk • contributions • email) 04:24, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
- haha! However, for this one, even I could detect prose problems, so someone like Malleus will totally thrash this.--Dwaipayan (talk) 04:42, 3 June 2013 (UTC)

Ajit Singh of Khetri
Hi, just went through Ajit Singh of Khetri. Did copy edits for the worst offenders, so to speak. May still need greater tightening of prose. Since the license on images issue has been cleared up, that part's set too. Good job expanding it, but does it hold up against the 5x expansion in the last 5 days criteria? ANI
Thanks for comments at ANI. If you are wondering, the sockpuppet/SPA account is owned by Jimkio12. I put up Michel von Tell for a PROD and removed some stuff from the article.... IMDB as a ref, using peacock terms and some really bad English. They also messed with one of my userspace files, but I don't think it was for malicious reasons. I just put the article up for AfD. The second time I've been taken to ANI and both were for the same thing. Sniff, I'm so proud of that. I just wish my Userpage would get vandalized more often. Bgwhite (talk) 21:50, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
DYK for Ajit Singh of Khetri
On 4 June 2013, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Ajit Singh of Khetri, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Swami Vivekananda said it would not have been possible for him to do anything for India without the help of Ajit Singh, eighth king of Shekhawat dynasty of Khetri, Rajasthan? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Ajit Singh of Khetri. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. Jawaharlal Nehru Prize in 1967 and Swami Vivekananda Prize in 1989
Confused about the awards. I never heard of Swami Vivekananda Prize and the Jawaharlal Nehru Prize article have no mention of Professor Chelyshev. It lists Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan as 1967 prize winner. Solomon7968 (talk) 10:38, 4 June 2013 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. Baro Eka Lage
I wished to make an article on the Bengali film Baro Eka Lage starring Hiran Chatterjee. According to Gomolo (http://www.gomolo.com/baro-eka-lage-movie/45283), the film released on May 3, 2013. Following that, List of Bengali films of 2013 also says that the film released on May 3, 2013. But the fact is that, I didn't find another single source stating this fact. Even there is no mention of the film in the daily newspapers. On the other hand, "this page". says that Baro Eka Lage is an upcoming film. What to do? Any idea? Articles you might like to edit, from SuggestBot
We are currently running a study on the effects of adding additional information to SuggestBot's suggestions. Participation in the study is voluntary. Should you wish to not participate in the study, or have questions or concerns, you can find contact information on the SuggestBot study page.
IMPORTANT CHANGES: We have modified the selection of articles SuggestBot suggests and altered the design to incorporate more information about the articles, as described in this explanation.
Note: All columns in this table are sortable, allowing you to rearrange the table so the articles most interesting to you are shown at the top. All images have mouse-over popups with more information.
Changes to SuggestBot's suggestions
We have changed the number of suggested articles and which categories they are selected from. The number of stubs has been greatly reduced, the number of articles needing sources doubled, and two new categories added (orphans and unencyclopaedic articles). We have also modified the layout of the suggestions and added sortable columns with various types of information about each article. The first two columns are:
- Views/Day
- Daily average number of views an article's had over the past 14 days.
- Quality
- Predicted article quality on a 1- to 3-star scale. Placing your cursor over the stars should give you a pop-up describing the article's quality (Low/Medium/High), current assessment class, and predicted assessment class.
The method we use to predict article quality also allows us to assess whether an article might need specific types of work in order to improve its quality. The work needed might not correspond to cleanup tags added to the article, since our method is not based on those. We have added five columns reflecting this work assessment, where a red X indicates improvement is needed. Placing your cursor over an X should give you a pop-up with a short description of the work needed. The five columns seek to answer the following five questions:
- Content
- Is more content needed?
- Headings
- Does this article have an appropriate section structure?
- Images
- Is the number of illustrative images about right?
- Links
- Does this article link to enough other Wikipedia articles?
- Sources
- For its length, is there an appropriate number of citations to sources in this article?
SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. We appreciate that you have signed up to receive suggestions regularly, your contributions make Wikipedia better — thanks for helping!
If you have feedback on how to make SuggestBot better, please let us know on SuggestBot's talk page. Regards from Nettrom (talk), SuggestBot's caretaker. -- SuggestBot (talk) 11:55, 6 June 2013 (UTC)
