DumbBOT subpage in main namespace
editYou may be interested to know that DumbBOT created a page in the main namespace at DumbBOT/Importance. Khatru2 08:55, 15 October 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, that's definitely something I am interested into :-) That page was created by a semi-automated edit where I wrote the name of the page User:DumbBOT/Importance wrong. The script is now fully automated, so this page shouldn't show up again. Thanks for pointing that out. Tizio, Caio, Sempronio 11:17, 15 October 2006 (UTC)
Incomplete AfD Nominations
editDumbot listed two of my recent AfD nominations, Mac J. Donnelly Jr. and Historic Members of the United States House of Representatives as "incomplete". For my future reference, what was "incomplete" about those two nominations? --TommyBoy 02:33, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
- Apparently, the third step of Template:AfD_in_3_steps was missing. The bot detected that these two articles were nominated for deletion, that their discussion pages existed, but these discussion pages were not linked from a "Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Log/day" page. The completion consisted in placing {{subst:afd3|pagetitle}} to the page relative to the current day, as in [1]. The bot also left the notice to explain why a nomination that was dated October 15 was listed on the log of October 15. Tizio, Caio, Sempronio 12:13, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
Name change
editHi Tizio, I'm not sure what your message on the Wikipedia:Changing username project page is saying, but I can still log in as RichBerry which drops me on the LittleOldMe user page and there are still postings attributed to RichBerry. I understood that a name change would remove all traces of RichBerry and attribute everything to LittleOldMe.
Sorry if I'm being dense.
LittleOldMe 09:36, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
- In your request [2] you wrote "LittleOldMe" bot after "Current name:" and "Requested name:". Based on the section header, I have corrected this. I left a note in case this was not the intended correction. In brief, it was just copyediting. Tizio, Caio, Sempronio 12:31, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
Dumbbot
editGreetings. As one of the two administrators most active in processing copyvios at WP:CP, I have to say that I'd strongly prefer if Dumbbot listed the copyvios it finds on the main page, rather than on a subpage. I think the rest of us feel this way as well. All the best, – Quadell (talk) (random) 11:17, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
- I agree, and actually nobody on Wikipedia talk:Copyright problems has ever objected to additions to the main page. I'll inform the approvals group of the change. Tizio, Caio, Sempronio 12:00, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
How do you DumbBOT Me?
editHey, how do you make a bot like DumbBOT! Please answer! CoolChris 10:34, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
- Answer on User talk:DumbBOT Tizio, Caio, Sempronio 12:44, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
Please do not make personal attacks on other people. Wikipedia has a strict policy against personal attacks. Attack pages are not tolerated by Wikipedia and are speedily deleted. Users who continue to create such pages will be blocked from editing by administrators or banned by the arbitration committee. Thank you. (aeropagitica) 21:49, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
- I may not have considered that the redirect following the move was to remove, but I do not think this can be considered a "creation of an attack page" as well. Short summary for casual readers: an article Mexican hate group was on AfD at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mexican hate groups; the result was a "no consensus", and then (as a regular editor) I moved the article to Mexican-American Political Organizations, as was suggested then. The resulting redirect was recently tagged {{db-attack}} and the above administrator posted the standard "attack warning" on my talk page, as if I intentionally created that redirect as a way for an attack. Tizio, Caio, Sempronio 23:19, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
- Please do not use rollback for any other purpose than reverting vandalism; you reverted [3] a post where I was saying that you used a template incorrectly and asking you to comment on my talk page. That's not vandalism by any stretch of imagination. Tizio, Caio, Sempronio 13:48, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
- A further investigation shows this edit followed by this rollback. An administrator is not suppposed to behave this way. I sometimes do mistakes too, and I receive complaints on my talk page, but I never used rollback on them. Tizio, Caio, Sempronio 13:53, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
Apologies, it must have been at the end of a long admin session. I was not aware of the content of your communication. As to the templates, the only one of which I am aware was the speedy application, placed on the deleted redirect page by another user. I deleted quite a few nonsensical redirect pages yesterday and the one to which your name was appended in the history appeared to be identical to the others. You can disregard any warnings given out. Regards, (aeropagitica) 15:31, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
Thank you...
edit...for your kind words and show of support. If you ever need anything, just let me know. I was also going to make some clever little remark related to your interests and contributions, but they are all at least three light-years ahead of me. So, in order to not look like a total moron, I will stick to just saying "thanks." Cheers. youngamerican (ahoy hoy) 15:31, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
i would also like to say thank you from User:trappit 15 since you blocked my idiot friends from bein able to edit susank, KS
- Actually, I wasn't the one who protected that page (I just added the box saying that it was protected). But yes, the page is protected now, so no vandalism for a while. Tizio 23:41, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
Thank you also for fixing the table on my User page. It's such a bizarre concept to me that other people would edit my own page to improve it like that. (I've been a Web developer for years, which is usually a pretty solitary task.) I just wanted to thank you for helping to make my page, and thus Wikipedia in general, look and work better. :-D --Willscrlt 01:42, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
DumbBot thanks
editHey, thanks for adding the copyvio listing function to DumbBOT. I used to run a script to do this but haven't been around much over the summer. It was a nice surprise to see no un-listed copyvios when I ran it recently. --Duk 19:33, 4 November 2006 (UTC)
Please undelete and use a different process.
editYou speedy-deleted Hello world program in esoteric languages on October 24, using "CSD R1" as a justification. That article was not a redirect, it had survived an AfD before, and it does not qualify for speedy deletion. I don't think it should be deleted at all--it was separated from List_of_hello_world_programs for some good reasons, and it has been culled until it is not too bloated. I think it serves an illustrative function--not all pages of a paper encyclopedia are full of paragraphs of text. But if you think it should be deleted, please start an AfD for it. Thank you. DanielCristofani 06:15, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
- I deleted List of hello world programs as a transwikied page (it is transwikied to wikibook, where I think it belongs). I recall having removed all incoming links, replacing with links to Hello world program or to the wikibooks page, depending on the context. This article has been now recreated, and I have deleted it again for the same reason (it is still a transwikied article).
- At the time, Hello world program in esoteric languages was a redirect to it, so I speedied it as a broken redirect. I will undeleted the esoteric language article to transwiki it (I cannot do it right now, it would help if you perform the transwiki process for me). Tizio, Caio, Sempronio 13:41, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
- Comment: I redirected Hello world program in esoteric languages to List_of_hello_world_programs because I merged (actually unsplit) them. —Ruud 21:04, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
- I presume the transwikied article is the one after merge. If this is the case, there is no need to transwiki Hello world program in esoteric languages, as it is already on wikibooks (it can be splitted out again there, if needed). The current version on wikipedia should be deleted, then. Tizio, Caio, Sempronio 21:37, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
- Hm, so that page is not part of an encyclopedia but it is a textbook or part of a textbook? What I really worry about is that WikiBooks people will eventually end up saying "We are not WikiDumpingGround" and deleting it, even though Wikipedia people have already agreed that keeping it in Wikipedia was better than deleting it. There is no way to assure that it will get transwikied back to Wikipedia if Wikibooks doesn't want it. In this way transwikification becomes a covert way of deleting an article that people have already decided should not be deleted...kind of like the whole ancient "let's leave the baby outside and hope it survives" thing. Oh well. If you got consensus on the transwikification, I suppose I can't object. DanielCristofani 00:27, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

Hippo...etc...phobia redirects
editThanks for putting those in the right category. I expect I'll be learning a number of things as a new admin by trial-and-error, so thank you for showing me my error! — Saxifrage ✎ 22:46, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

doppleganger software update
editCan you update WP:DOP to include the recent change? If you didn't have anything to do with it (saw your comment on village pump, technical), please pass on to someone who can, or let me know and I'll pursue it. I don't know the details of what was done/disallowed, or I'd make the changes myself... -- nae'blis 18:24, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
- I actually already make a change to that page [4]. There, I said that this is the result of the implementation of bugzilla:2290 (you can find some more details there); however, this bug is still open as of today. For this reason, I'd avoid saying anything more specific than "if you cannot create the doppelganger account nobody else can" for now. Tizio 20:09, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
- Mmmm, okay. I missed that and was looking farther down the page where it tells you how to make said account. I'll wait until the bug is formally closed, though. -- nae'blis 20:46, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
Hi, with regards to your !vote here, I've found the CfD discussion wich resulted in deletion in the first place (under an erraneous deletion summary). Just thought I'd let you know, as I can see a potential misunderstanding with the original discussion not linked to, and the bad first deletion. Thanks, Martinp23 11:06, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

Flash Flash Revolution
editI noticed you blanked the page Flash Flash Revolution and replaced it with a redirect. The AfD was closed and the result was "Keep (no consensus)." The article on FFR is currently pending deletion review; please do not remove or replace the article until the DRV is finished. - Chardish 01:30, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
- No consensus means that there is no consensus on what to do with the article. Keep is simply a default, not a binding decision. Turning an article into a redirect is an editorial decision that is entirely consistent with the result of AfD. Thanks for pointing out the DRV, anyway. I'll vote to delete there. Apologize for the Afd
editOkay, I was kind of pissed on the RX-78 affair, but in any case, yes, that was stupid.
The history to this page notes that you were the protecting admin back in July. I wonder if I could get the page unprotected (the amount of vandalism in the history page actually looked pretty minimal), we have some extra "Sergiuses" floating around that need to be added. Thanks for your consideration. Pastordavid 19:48, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
- I want's the protecting admin (I only fixed the protection template used at the top of the page). But yes, anyway, it can be unprotected now. Tizio 19:53, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

Salted pages and Dumbot
editThere was a recent attempt to change {{Deletedpage}} but since there may be a new method of salting pages the attempt was aborted and reverted. But in that process DumBOT's User:DumbBOT/TimeSortedPD got messed up and the date of the salting go changed. I was wondering how we should proceed to fix this. Betacommand (talk • contribs • Bot) 14:41, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
- User:DumbBOT/TimeSortedPD is a list of pages in Category:Protected deleted pages by time of last entering the category. For pages that have not been changed, there should not been any difference, as {{deletedpage}} with no argument place pages in that category. For the other pages that have changed to add the date of protection, there is essentially nothing that can be done to fix the current listing. However, if the new method for protecting in a deleted state is implemented, that list will be redundant. Tizio 18:02, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
Image copyright problem with Image:Thirdparty.png
editThank you for uploading Image:Thirdparty.png. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation.
Since the image is orphaned, you might want to just leave it alone and let it be deleted in 7 days. —Remember the dot (t) 21:04, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for marking Image:Thirdparty.png as having been replaced by Image:Third party cookie.svg. Could you go over to Commons:Image:Third party cookie.svg and explain the exact copyright status of the new image? If you are releasing it under the GFDL yourself, then please add {{GFDL-self}} to the Licensing section. —Remember the dot (t) 17:05, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
Wapanese vs. Japanophile
editHi, I'm contacting you since you are the one who protected the Wapanese to Japanophile redirect. I'm not sure what the Japanophile article looked like at the time you did this, but it has in the meantime gone through an AfD and a consequent rewrite to reflect the dictionary meaning of the word instead of the internet meme. Because of this, the redirect from Wapanese is now meaningless, it redirects to an article that has very little to do with the common conception of what a Wapanese is. Could you remove the protection and bring back the Wapanese article? TomorrowTime 20:29, 11 February 2007 (UTC)
- I didn't protect that page, just added the category "Category:Protected redirects" to it. The protecting administrator can be found by looking a the page history, or still better at the logs for the page. Tizio 16:21, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
- Oops. Sorry to have bothered you. Thanks for the help, though. TomorrowTime 20:28, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

Its abt the changes in "Stopping by Woods"
editHi, you have reverted back the changes made by me, my sole reason was to put Hindi-lines ,which theme matches with this poem. Can you please explain?AnjaliSinha2004 18:12, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
- I don't remember having reverted your addition, but history proves I did :-). Essentially, things you are not sure about go to the talk page, not on the article itself. In this particular case, what you posted was (possibly) a version of the poem in a language that is neither a. the original language the poem was written in; nor b. the language of the wikipedia you are writing into. For example, I wouldn't post the Italian version of a poem unless it was originally written in Italian, or I am writing on the Italian wikipedia. Nevertheless, I apologize for having reverted instead of using a clear edit summary; I seem to remeber I was in the middle of reverting other vandalism on related pages and I probably got confused. DumbBOT
editI believe DumbBOT is malfunctioning. It is removing the protection template from National Hockey League when the logs show that it is in fact protected, see here. Regards -- Jeff3000 18:26, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the report. Newer versions of MediaWiki allow protection to be given an expire date; in particular, protection expired at 16:21 today on that page. Help
editHow do you apply for a protected page? to avoid "removal of a protection template from a non-protected page". Milliot 19 March, 2007
- You can request a page to be protected at WP:RFPP. It's generally accepted that pages are not to be protected unless they are getting a lot of vandalism (see Wikipedia:Protection policy for details). Tizio 18:25, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
My reason for the fact tag after "invented" was it seems a bit disharmonious with the explanation later in the article that cookies are a concept taken from UNIX. Some reference might make it clearer in what sense they were "invented". I would have changed the wording to something like "One of the earliest uses of cookies..." or somesuch, but I can't even be sure that's true without a reference. Robert K S 18:28, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
- You are indeed correct: "cookies were invented" is misleading there: HTTP cookies (not just cookies) were introduced for the shopping cart application. Actually, that was the problem that lead to their introduction, but they provide a more general solution to the stateless problem, and possibly the shopping cart wasn't then really their first application (I seem to recall that the first actual use "in the wild" was that of tracking visitors to the netscape website). Re: the API watchlist
editI asked Yurik about it, who had no idea what had caused it to be removed. My best guess is that it was deliberately turned off to prevent me running a script that checked for new watchlist changes, but I don't know this for certain. --ais523 14:57, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
- I haven't contacted Brion yet. I have no idea whether my script was responsible (it's the only thing I can think of, though); it requested the api.php watchlist with a limit of 1 every pageview, which I was hoping wouldn't be as much of a drain on the server as checking my entire watchlist every few pageviews (as is my habit). Can you think of any other reason why it might have been disabled (or stopped working for some other reason whilst the rest of api.php carries on fine)? --ais523 15:07, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi there! I created an article on Tellapadu on the 10th of Jan. '07. There was a problem with the content (insufficient information), following which the page was deleted and subsequently, restored. However, I unknowingly tried removing some tags which were placed, as a part of my efforts to revise the article i.e to weed out any unwanted information/parts and add more facts. Due to this, there occured some misunderstanding, for which, I agree, I'm solely to be blamed and the article Tellapadu was redirected to Doddavaram. Doddavaram is a neighbouring village and bears very little relationship, if any to Tellapadu. So I request Tellapadu to be restored to its former status (unprotected and the redirection undone), upon which I assure that all necessary changes and additions would be made by me, in full conformity to Wikipedia's standards, including several new facts, which have come to light as a result of my research on the subject in question. If you are still unsatisfied you may proceed in the course, as you deem necessary, as an administrator. Thanking You, Altruism 07:16, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
- This is already solved, as far as I can tell. Happy editing. Tizio 10:44, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
Tizio, Respect the DumbBOT, and clearly see the edit comment "removing a protection template from a non-protected page" but I think there is a disconnect. I requested that the page be protected from non-registered edits, as a result of vandalism. The protection was implemented (although maybe not correctly, from your BOT response). The vandalism on this page all but stopped. So, this was all good, and at least according to the process.
Then, DumbBOT came in and removed that protection template, and here is the result, within hours:

Afd question
editSorry, I'm not exactly a regular contributor, so I may be off base nominating it, but did you read that silly Aeropolis article? I (now) added my reasons for deletion in its talk page, but basically it says nothing of value, has no citations, I think the talk page really exemplifies its silliness. I think at most what the "Aeropolis" warrants is a mention on another page. I was under the impression that the deletion nomination would add it to a list that people would take a look at, discuss its merits, and then make a decision as to whether or not to delete it, not deleted by the first person who saw it. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.241.227.98 (talk) 20:06, 14 April 2007 (UTC).
- The article Aeropolis 2001 has recently been edited, and I think the quality of writing is ok now. Does the article have any other problem? Tizio 11:22, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you. I realize you were not the editor, but it appears that SOMETHING (whether nomination or recent edits...) caused some editing to occur. I'm not sure how much of an article is acceptable for deletion, but I'm glad the problem has been solved. A couple sentences for that appears to be all that is needed. I am now glad it has not been deleted. Thanks for correcting me on perhaps being a little hasty to nominate for deletion. Cheers. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.241.227.98 (talk) 01:06, 18 April 2007 (UTC).

Regarding protection
editI understand your unease on working on articles that can be edited by anyone, but please don't use terms like "Bloody Fool" or "Dont be a nonsense" in edit summaries. WP:OWN and WP:CIVIL are strict policies here.
Regarding the question of protection, please note that "vandalism" means an intentional attempt at adding false information or otherwise harm the project. I took a look at some recent edits from the pages you mentioned, and [5] looks like a good faith edit to me. If there is any controversies regarding any of these two articles (and I currently see none), the best move is to discuss them in the talk pages of these two articles. Tizio 15:57, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
- ...and, of course contact me again if you have further questions. Tizio 15:58, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
Reply
editHi! Thanks for your kind interest in the issue. I am sorry to use those words like "bloody fool" and "nonsense". I know I should not have used them. But you know the case is that I lost my temper seeing that some people are intentionally trying to harm the reputation of others. Like ... let me tell you in details, 1. Kalyan Mukherjee (www.kalyanmsarode.com) never learnt Sarode (Indian classical music) from Tejendra. But someone (I know that the person who is providing these misinformations is a lobbyist of Tejendra based in the USA) is repeatedly writing that Kalyan learns from Tejendra. Kalyan actually was a student of the late Ustad Bahadur Khan. The guy who is doing this is doing this intentionally I believe, to spread misinformation among classical music circles in India. Its a pity. I tried to resolve these issues by discussing at the talk page. But the guy who is doing these kind of things seems to be bothered by nothing, not even truth. He wants to just misinform people. 2. Bahadur Khan was a really acclaimed performer you know. (You can check http://banglapedia.search.com.bd/HT/K_0169.htm this website. He was a civilian award winner of Bangladesh Government.) I am not a Bangladeshi, neither am I anyone of this deceased maestro. I just know that he was a revered figure in the Indian subcontinent music circles, and I believe people should remember that. But this guy wants to show that Bahadur Khan's other student Tejendra has superseded the former maestro!! That also this guy is writing without any reference! 3. This guy is trying to badname Aashish Khan's reputation by caricaturing his so-called "conversion to Hinduism". (Tejendra may be a competitor of Aashish Khan in Indian music circles. But wikipedia is not a place to aimlessly badname people for their professional rivalry. This guy who is trying to badname Aashish Khan for his "conversion to Hinduism", is a lobbyist of Tejendra as I wrote you earlier.
I soulfully believe wikipedia should remain clean and referenced. Thats why I have put reference notes on Aashish Khan article regarding his "conversion". But I just wish truth to remain truth, and facts not to be exaggerated.
I believe the guy who is doing all these is doing these intentionally. Because he is not even interested in talk page discussions. Thats why, when I wrote that Bahadur Khan "won popularity" for his performance during his days; this guy added the word "mild". Firstly, a maestro who represented India to abroad following India Government invitations in several cultural occasions, can not be considered to have gained "mild" popularity. Secondly, this maestro Bahadur Khan was a Government civilian award winner (equivalent to British peerage) in India and Bangladesh. Can a person with "mild" popularity earn this honour? Anyway, I had not written 'great' popularity either. So this guy had no reason to badname this deceased maestro by adding the word "mild".
This guy who is doing all these things, often edits as an unregistered, often edits registered as User:Tunmaj (Ironically this username Tunmaj has similarity with the name Tejendranarayan Majumdar!)
I would really be grateful if these articles on Bahadur Khan and Aashish Khan can be blocked for editing by vandalisers. Please do the needful for this if you feel it my way.
This Khan family is a great family. Aashish Khan is Bahadur Khan's nephew. And Aashish Khan was nominated for the Grammy Award in 2006. So this family, where almost everyone is/was a genius, deserves some respect. I hope Wikipedia is not the place for badnaming people out of sheer professional rivalry.
Let truth prevail.
I hope my words make sense. I look forward to hearing from you.
Again, let me apologisze for writing "bloody fool" and "nonsense". I did not mean to insult any responsible human being.
Best regards, Sarodiya 17:51, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for your help. I hope you may be able to help in next week.

Template:BirminghamBuildings
editHi. I noticed that you have changed the 'one-way' external links on Template:BirminghamBuildings to internal links. Did you have a particular reason for doing that? I was trying to test people's opinion of doing links in this kind of box as one-way links, so that all the articles chained from the box do not appear in the what links here list, hampering maintenance. As you can see from its talk page there were a few comments on the colour, but I was interested to get more feedback. In my opinion this sort of box is more trouble than it is worth, but the use of external links could be a compromise, if accepted. Comments? :) Oosoom Talk to me 20:58, 28 April 2007 (UTC)
Blanked prod cat
edit203.145.128.5 has blanked page Category:Proposed_deletion_as_of_27_April_2007 which was then missing in CAT:PROD. I have reverted the edit and warned the editor. However, as it is an automatic page, you may want to double-check the outcome. --Tikiwont 12:57, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for pointing this out. I don't think there have been any problem, as the bot doesn't use the category page as shown in the html interface. In any case, the bot runs every 6 hours, so if something went wrong, it should be fixed by now. Tizio 19:59, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

Eric Dill listing
editCan you remove the forced redirect from the "Eric Dill" listing? He is no longer with The Click Five and is pursuing a solo career. Various news articles talk about this, such as: http://www.chartattack.com/damn/2007/04/0504.cfm http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1558026/20070425/lil_kim.jhtml http://theedge.bostonherald.com/musicNews/view.bg?articleid=196306 -- John
- These references assess that he is now on his own, not that he has become notable by himself. It is my opinion that the redirect should be left as it is. You can have this issue discussed at WP:DRV, but please take a look at WP:MUSIC before doing that. Tizio 23:35, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

More categories for your bot to handle
editUsing the format given by you at WP:BOTREQ, you need to add the following:
Category:Images needing editor assistance at upload as of $D|Template:Images needing editor assistance at upload subcategory starter Category:Images on Wikimedia Commons as of $D|Template:Images on Wikimedia Commons subcategory starter Category:Images with no copyright tag as of $D|Template:Images with no copyright tag subcategory starter Category:Images with no fair use rationale as of $D|Template:Images with no fair use rationale subcat starter Category:Images with the same name on Wikimedia Commons as of $D|Template:Images with the same name on Wikimedia Commons subcategory starter Category:Orphaned fairuse images as of $D|Template:Orphan fair use subcat starter
There is also Category:Replaceable fair use to be decided after $D, but you need to add 7 days to the date, and its starter is Template:Replaceable fair use Images subcategory starter. By the way, a good name for your bot might be WineBot because older wines are often considered better than newer wines in many cases, which is on how we are required to let the categories to age handling them. You could make a joke for the emergency shutoff button, stating that administrators should block it if it is malfunctioning or acting drunk. Jesse Viviano 22:33, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
- A problem with the new name is that DumbBOT is always acting drunk, that's how it got its name :-) I have added the new categories, except for the one requiring the +7 days, which I will code by next week. The bot will be off-line till Friday; from there, it should start creating the cats every day. Tizio 11:28, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Tizio, I noticed your edit comment recently where you didn't think this article required protection. Please check the history, there have been 30 instances of vandalism since June 1 alone. Re: Little help on Commons?
editYes, as long as the day, {{{3}}} is prefixed with a 0 and a space... so, 01, 02, 03 and not just 1 2 3 so that the categories get listed right. All dates should have a space before them as well, so " 01", " 15", etc. This also ensures they are listed in order. No hurry, thanks again. MECU≈talk 04:38, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
- {{3}} is the day possibly prefixed with 0, {{4}} is just the day. Please, keep an eye on commons:Template:Unknown subcategory starter, since the bot actually uses this page. Tizio 16:19, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free image (Image:HTTPCookie.png)
editThanks for uploading Image:HTTPCookie.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 21:02, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

Universal Image Format deletion
editHi, I created the newest Universal Image Format page however it was quickly marked as speedy delete. i put a discussion notice on it and made a comment on the discussion page. the page was deleted anyway with no discussion. I strongly beleive that the article should exist, what were the reasons for deletion exactly other than that it had previously been deleted (with different content) Variant 20:54, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

Hey there.
I recently noticed that DumbBot scrapes the copyvio categories and adds unlisted articles under Wikipedia:Copyright problems. Given that CSBot places articles on WP:SCV, it's a bit redundant (although not necessarily bad). I can think of three things that could be done:
- Change the templates used by CSBot (
{{csb-pageincludes}}
and{{csb-pageincluded}}
) to not put the article in the category; - change DumbBot to ignore the CSBot templates (requiring that the article be read, which I expect is already done because of the next point); or
- let them both list the articles, but tweak DumbBot so it knows about the CSBot templates and gets the url off of them as well (making the "url not detected" messages go away).
Any of those will do, as far as I'm concerned. Preference? — Coren (talk) 04:48, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
- I cannot make any change to the bot in the next two weeks (at least). Please implement your choice n.1 for now. I'll take a closer look at the issue when I'm back. Tizio 13:38, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
- The templates above no longer place the article in the copyvio category. Give me a holler once you get around to looking at this. — Coren (talk) 03:31, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
- I just changed the script so that it handles the csb- templates correctly. An alternative solution is to use Category:Suspected copyright violations instead of Category:Possible copyright violations, so that DumbBOT will not scan them. Both solutions are straighforward at this point, so just choose the one you think is the best. Tizio 12:14, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
- Ok, the first one. Tizio 11:22, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use Image:Wm-dopo.png
editThanks for uploading Image:Wm-dopo.png. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Remember the dot (talk) 20:54, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
editThanks for uploading Image:Xframe.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 21:03, 27 August 2007 (UTC). category:protected redirects
editIMo you don't have to add to it the redirects with automatic expiration time; only permanently protected ones. `'Míkka 17:46, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
- It would be more complicated to check the expiration time, and I have a script for automatically removing the category when protection expires. Also, if the expiration time is 1 year, it's perhaps better to have the redirect in the category. Tizio 11:43, 29 August 2007 (UTC)
Question about screenshot copyright
editI see you have changed some license tags in some screenshots I have uploaded. Since I've always been confused by the licence of screenshots, I'd like to ask you a couple of questions. All these screenshots are of the X Window system, using a X window manager; some programs are mine. If a screenshot includes elements that are effectively added by the window manager (such as the title bar, the frame around windows, etc.), do I have to include the window manager license? If I instead decide to release the programs in the public domain, do I still have to include that license? Tizio 11:33, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
- It doesn't hurt to include the window manager's license, but I don't think that's strictly required. What's really important is the license of the program itself. You should also state where you got the screenshot from, whether you took it yourself or found it on a web site.
- In the case of Image:Xframe.png, there's quite a bit more there than just a simple screenshot; there's also several lines and captions. We need more source information here: who created the diagram, and what license did they release it under? —Remember the dot (talk) 19:02, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

Tizio, the Amelia Earhart article has been subject to a series of attacks ranging over a year, notwithstanding the latest episode. Most of the attacks have been from a random IP address and the semiprotection that was requested was useful in slowing these forms of disruptive edits. FWIW Bzuk 14:25, 29 August 2007 (UTC).
- Everytime we have tried to go with no protection, a flood of silly comments descended. The topic of Amelia Earhart seems to appear on every Junior and High School teacher's curriculum although I cannot say for certain that all vandalism comes from this source. For that reason, I would like to see semi-protection remain due to past misadventures. If a legitimate IP submission has a significant contribution to add, it is probably best at this juncture of the article's history to have to appear on the talk page first. At that point, any number of seasoned editors would be willing to post the submission into the main body of the text. FWIW Bzuk 14:46, 29 August 2007 (UTC).

- Thanks Tizio. I may still have to request some future protection of the article. Small favour- do a quick read and give me a first impression. FWIW Bzuk 15:46, 29 August 2007 (UTC).
- What a great first read. I will certainly look at all your suggestions. I have "pruned" that pesky popular culture section a number of times but the issue of the schools now "jumps out at me". A quick google search indicates numerous schools, bridges, parks, playgrounds, etc. are named after Amelia. I think a broad statement indicating that a number of prominent schools are named after her may suffice. The Bolam issue became so huge that a separate "sub-article" was created. The same thing occured with Fred Noonan, Nikumaroro, Paul Mantz, GP Putnam and even Neta Snook articles being written. Thanks again for your assistance. IMHO, more admins like you need to assert yourself. Bzuk 17:00, 29 August 2007 (UTC).

At that point, any number of seasoned editors would be willing to post the submission into the main body of the text. FWIW Bzuk 14:46, 29 August 2007 (UTC).

DumbBOT and William Herbert Wallace
editHi,
DumbBOT recently removed protection from the article William Herbert Wallace. I had provided protection to it because some vandal kept undoing the changes I had made to it which dwell more on the case and which I think are relevant.
Can I restore protection without DumbBOT subsequently removing it?
Thank you
Anal stretching redirect
editHi. Please note that Anal Stretching is not the same as using but-plugs. Perhaps, if anything but plugs might redirect to anal stretching. The anal stretching article in case you don't know is slightly controversial, it was a pretty decent article until it was nominated for deletion for not being well referenced and for 'reading like a how-to guide' -- a lot of that is fixable.
To quote one of the admins that advocated deletion (and his subsequent retraction), the user User:JzG said on his external personal attack page (website) at http://www.chapmancentral.co.uk/wiki/Rfwoolf:
- Oh, and you still never got round to writing a properly sourced article on the subject, which would probably have passed DRV with ease as there are many references to the sexual practice of anal stretching. Talk to Uncle G some time about how to really rescue a crap article on a good (or at least encyclopaedic) subject.
I respectful ask that you remove the redirect.
Rfwoolf 11:49, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
- I didn't create the redirect, just added a category to it. Tizio 11:58, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

editI'd typed up multiple reasons, but Twinkle ate my homework :-) Maybe because I had Adblock Plus enabled. Regardless it's time for me to go to work, so I'm aborting it. —Mrand T-C 12:09, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
Protected Redirect edit
editHi, could you take a very quick look at your last edit to San Pedro, Los Angeles & Salt Lake Railroad ( which is a protected redirect)? I think your bot may have suffered a minor hiccup there. Thanks! Pitamakan 16:25, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for pointing this out. I was having problem reaching the edit form because of the "&" in the title, so I copies and pasted the title... except that when I was to add the category I forgot I was having the title (and not the category) selected. The drawback of becoming quick in doing things is that you don't notice when you make mistakes. Tizio 16:45, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
DumbBOT anf RFD
editWould it be possible for DumbBOT to create the daily subpages for WP:RFD and possibly transclude them at midnight on the main RfD page? -- John Reaves 21:16, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
- This appears to be simpler than dealing with incomplete AfD. I'm giving a try at it. Will let you known. Tizio 11:46, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
DumbBOT blanked a page
editdiff I'm guessing that wasn't supposed to happen. --Closedmouth 13:42, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
- Indeed it wasn't. It was my fault, actually: I have a number of scripts in a directory, and another script for cleaning up all temp files. I had the not-so-bright idea to run the script while the bot was perorming its function of removing unneded protection templates, and that was the result. Thanks for reverting! Tizio 13:48, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
- Er, it did it again :-/ --Closedmouth (talk) 13:03, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for reporting. This time I have no idea of what happened. I have implemented a kind of quick fix by disallowing save of pages when the new content is less than 200 chars. This of course deactivate the function for redirects, but I can still work them out manually from the list of "non-removed" pages. Tizio 19:06, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

Purge cache button
editHi. Your bot is creating categories for prod articles. Could you please put the purge cache button back by default? It was pretty handy but now it's gone... Thanks. --Tone 22:39, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
- Well, in my case it does affect logged users. Soemtimes, refresh button just won't work, regardles if I push it 5 times. I would appreciate it if you put it back. --Tone 21:41, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
DumbBOT and the "copypaste" template
editAn interesting situation has occurred. An anon editor added Category:Possible copyright violations to the {{copypaste}} template back in October. I guess no one noticed. That had the effect of making DumbBOT pick up every single article that has that template and place them at Wikipedia:Copyright problems/2007 October 26/Articles. Of course there is no URL detected because even though that template has a URL parameter, no one seems to use it. Obviously not the bot's fault but I wonder if we can have the bot require the {{copyvio}} template in articles and only move those? --Spike Wilbury ♫ talk 04:37, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
- The problem is that there are other templates used for copyvio, and each of these templates can be subst'ed. In a way, articles in Category:Possible copyright violations are supposed to be listed at the copyright violations page. I'd rather prefer having a subcategory such as Category:Copyandpaste suspected copyright violations. Tizio 16:44, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Editors.png
editThanks for uploading Image:Editors.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 21:17, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
DumbBOT

DumbBot is "DUMB"
editI noticed that the bot seems to have been unavare that Febriary 29 existed, thus it marked a lot of AFD nominations made that day as incomplete, see for example [[7]] and others made that day and also see on MArch 6 list, where the most probably ended up as dupes. →AzaToth 18:52, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
- Here's the explanation: an editor partially blanked the Feb 29 page and was reverted only several hours later [8]. I launched the bot during that period [9], resulting in all these nomination being non-transcluded at that time. Unfortunately, I do not see how this could be automatically checked, as noms can be legitimately removed from afd pages in case of relisting. Tizio 12:49, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

- It's not a template to be transcluded by users. It is only meant to be used by the bot. I really do not see the point of the categorization. Tizio 13:39, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

Claudette
editHi Tizio
You likened Claudette to John. However, they are not similar. John refers to people called "John" without a last name, not "John [last name], whereas the Claudette page refers to people whose name includes a last name. Disambiguation pages are for people with the same or extremely similar names (such as different middle initials or spellings, where different). See Bill Sharpe for an example.
I hope you won't contest the AfD that I'm about to lodge.

editI was going to create an article about an "Andrew Williams" a JAG officer in the USN, who resigned over the torture issue. I found that Andrew Williams has been redirected to Andy Williams.
I checked the "what links here". I found none of the instances of "Andrew Williams" in article space referred to the singer.
So, I decided that the USN officer should be put under Andrew Williams (USN), and that Andrew Williams should be a disambiguation page.
I was quite surprised to see that Andrew Williams was a protected redirect. I tried to figure out WHY it was a protected redirect. No luck. Your note said something about vandalism. Well, aren't vandals memories usually pretty short?
I'd like to suggest unprotection.
Candidly, Geo Swan (talk) 09:56, 25 October 2008 (UTC)
- I wasn't the one who protected the article (just added the category in it), but I agree it's time to unprotect. At the time it was protected, there was not temporary protection as now (you couldn't set an automated time for unprotection). Incidentally, I see from the deleted history that the problem appears to be a guy who added his biography there (as far as I can understand). Anyway, that's not something you should worry about. I'm unprotecting the redirect right now. Perhaps you could add it to your watchlist, just in case. Tizio 15:44, 25 October 2008 (UTC)
- OK, thanks! Geo Swan (talk) 16:06, 25 October 2008 (UTC)
Pages with incorrect protection templates
editHi. Thanks to the new magic word {{PROTECTIONLEVEL}}, we can hide a protection template when incorrectly applied to a page and list it in Category:Wikipedia pages with incorrect protection templates. Since DumbBot often removes protection templates, I wonder if it could patrol this category too. Maybe articles only as some transclusions are for demonstration purposes and it hasn't been fixed to prevent the categorization yet. Thanks, Cenarium (talk) 01:17, 9 February 2009 (UTC)
- Perhaps a bot technically could add protection templates, but I think it would ask for troubles. What do you have in mind, exactly? Tizio 17:39, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Bridge diagram
editI noticed your excellent diagrams of suspension bridges. Do you have some also for simple suspension bridges? --Una Smith (talk) 14:32, 18 March 2009 (UTC)
- Not at the moment, but if you tell me how it could be used, I could easily produce one. Since it's just a reversed arch, as far as I understand, it would help for me to know if it's going to be used alone or in conjunction with the other diagrams. Tizio 16:25, 18 March 2009 (UTC)
- I would use it on Suspension bridge, to distinguish suspension bridges with towers from simple suspension bridges. I would also use it on Simple suspension bridge. Actually, for that article I'd like two diagrams: one with short pillars at the anchor points (even the Inca rope bridge has pillars), and one showing the addition of stabilizing cables below the deck. Dumbbot and copyvios
edit{{Copyviocore}} was recently changed so that it adds articles to Category:Articles tagged for copyright problems [12]... Could you update the bot, so that it finds these articles, too? We have a very large copyvio clean-up project here, and we decided to let the bot handle the bookkeeping at WP:CP. – Sadalmelik ☎ 18:56, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
- I wanted to second this request. The new category was created to deal with massive infringement issues such as the Gastropod project that involve hundreds of articles (over the run, I believe we've cleaned or tagged about 2,000 so far). Having these articles in the parent category was rendering it useless for finding other matters of concern. Would it be possible to update the bot to help with this task? --Moonriddengirl (talk) 13:20, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
- I made a test run and got 357 unlisted pages. I assume that it would be more sensible to list 10/20 pages a day, rather than all 357 at once. Tizio 14:28, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
- Oh, my. :/ I suspect that all of the ones that are unlisted are going to be fish articles related to that massive clean-up. Yes, probably 10/20 a day would be better, if DumbBot can do it. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 14:55, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

- Sorry, that report is updated automatically on a schedule. I wasn't logged yesterday. If needed, I can change the schedule; just let me know. Tizio 15:12, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
- Aha, I thought it was run occasionally- that was the incomplete AFD list. It's not a problem, I just wanted to ask if it was only run manually to see if I'd fixed the old ones (which apparently I have). Thanks for the scripts, BTW. tedder (talk) 20:42, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
WP:PRODSUM
editIt's not exactly a "DumbBOT emergency, zomg", but he hasn't updated WP:PRODSUM for 15 hours now, and it's a tad annoying to scroll down the list, having to skip articles that have been deleted/de-prodded. Thanks, JamieS93 21:30, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
- Fixed for now. It wasn't a bot bug, anyway, but a network problem. Tizio 18:25, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
- Great, thank you. Since my wiki-life depends on WP:PRODSUM, I decided to manually update the page a couple of times by removing the deleted/de-prodded entries by hand. ;-) Best, JamieS93 18:30, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
- That's fine too: the bot does not take the current content of the page into account when updating. Tizio 12:26, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

DumbBOT stopped working at AfD
editHi, sorry to bother you, just wondering why DumbBOT has stopped doing the following:
- completing nominations when the AfD subpage exists but is not listed
- listing incomplete AfD nominations at User:DumbBOT/IncompleteAfD
I see you haven't edited for a while and that DumbBOT hasn't listed any incomplete noms or updated the incomplete page since the 4th Aug, so I'm guessing these may be semi-automated tasks? If so, and you don't have time anymore would you mind if I submitted a request at WP:BOTREQ to continue these tasks (my main concern being the completion of unlisted AfD's)? regards, ascidian | talk-to-me 20:55, 10 September 2009 (UTC)
- You guessed it right: these tasks are semi-automated. I have to run the scripts manually. I am currently on vacation, but I'll be back by next week. User:Tizio (from a public terminal...) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 218.42.154.18 (talk) 15:47, 11 September 2009 (UTC)
- Ok, thats cool. Thanks for taking the time to reply. I was just concerned that we have become so reliant on DumbBOT listing these noms that the "forgotten" ones are beginning to stack up (see this discussion). Enjoy the rest of your vacation (and I'm sorry to intrude on it)! ascidian | talk-to-me 22:30, 11 September 2009 (UTC)
Your bot not allows me to change this page, please adjust the cat creation according to the version history, the related category on Commons is commons:Category:Unknown. You are probably much more skilled: I created 3 starter templates, maybe they can be merged to one, the starter templates need a catsort like 20091020 for today or 20091206 for December 6. Thanks for your help. --Martin H. (talk) 00:18, 20 October 2009 (UTC)
- This one seems to be sorted out, as far as I understand. As the parachute factory owner said "none has ever come back to complain". 151.100.59.194 (talk) 12:21, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
Protection
editYour DumbBot removed a misused protection template. My intention was to request administrators apply the template to the page but it seems I misunderstood the (very vague) documentation. I would ask that you consider adapting your bot to inform users of the correct way to request a page be protected or inform administrators that someone has tried to protect a page or both. -- Horkana (talk) 03:40, 30 October 2009 (UTC)
- The bot's edit summary has a "info" link, and the linked page already say how to request protection. Perhaps a direct link could be more helpful? Tizio 18:52, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
DumbBot question/request
editHi. :) WP:CP is undergoing a change in structure as a result of which articles tagged by CorenSearchBot are being transcluded in separate subpages. For example see Wikipedia:Copyright problems/2009 October 31. This is good, because it cuts down redundancy between WP:CP and WP:SCV. However, there's a new source of redundancy now because DumbBot is duplicating some of these listings. Obviously, it doesn't "see" that they're already there. Is a way for it to see that so we can avoid duplication? --Moonriddengirl (talk) 14:09, 1 November 2009 (UTC)
- I think I located the problem, and have corrected the script. Unfortunately, I do not have time to test it, so I temporarely deactivated this function of bot's. It should be back tomorrow or the day after. Tizio 18:49, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
- I did a test run. The copyview function of the bot's seems to work fine now. Tizio 16:45, 6 November 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you very much! You do magic. :D --Moonriddengirl (talk) 16:47, 6 November 2009 (UTC)
- Whoops, I never realized MRG posted this here. I initially meant to when I notified our other regular maintenance bot maintainers, but what I noticed is that with the previous code, DumbBot apparently did catch entries that CSB, for whatever reason, does not list on its own SCV pages. So while duplicates are something we'd be keen to remove, the safety net of catching CSB notices not listed at CP is definitely something we need :) MLauba (talk) 22:48, 25 November 2009 (UTC)
- Did it happen so far? I didn't even consider the issue: DumbBOT treats the CSB marked pages exactly like the others. Perhaps this was a case of unexpected feature! Tizio 14:50, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
Yup, just reviewed a case from November 17th again, Teen PEP. Had a chat about this with Coren early in November, and it's probably more pain than it's worth to debug it, if DumbBOT remains the safety net :) MLauba (talk) 14:56, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
Request2
editMe again. :) Can DumbBot do something else for us? We had asked User:Schutz since it seemed like a good extension of Zorglbot, but he seems to be busy (said he'd look into it "very soon" on November 2nd and we have heard no more). Anyway, I asked User:MBisanz if he thought it would be appropriate for me to check with somebody else, and he mentioned you. Since Dumbbot already does stuff for CP, seems like a great solution! Lengthy lead aside, would it be possible for you to get Dumbbot to transclude Template:Cppage to the daily pages at CP? The template is, I suppose, good at any point within the 24 hour day. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 20:26, 16 November 2009 (UTC)
- Seems like you're pretty busy, too. :) Just to update you on forward progression (since you presumably will see this at some point), I've now asked Schutz for the code (even though I'm not entirely sure what that means :D) so that we might be able to get it hosted where somebody else can handle smaller matters. Thanks anyway, and we'll see where it goes. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 14:01, 22 November 2009 (UTC)
- Hi! Yes, I don't have much time, now... Anyway, let me see if I got this right: the bot should load Wikipedia:Copyright problems/2009 November 25 and replace the headings with {{subst:Template:Cppage}} (if not already, of course). Is this right? Tizio 16:29, 25 November 2009 (UTC)
- That is, like this. Tizio 16:55, 25 November 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, that's exactly what we need. :) I'd be very appreciative! --Moonriddengirl (talk) 20:36, 25 November 2009 (UTC)
- Good! So, the bot is now scheduled to run at 00:20, so that Zorglbot have time to create the subpage first. If everything goes fine, I will have the bot run a couple of times afterwards just to check if everything has been done. Tizio 15:04, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
- Looking forward to it :) MLauba (talk) 15:11, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
- Ops. I made a mistake while programming the time of this one... The first test run will be this night at 00:20. Tizio 18:38, 27 November 2009 (UTC)
- Ok, this one seems to go fine. The bot is programmed to run at 01:15, 02:15, and 03:15, but only changes the subpage if it exists and the template has not yet been transcluded. Please report in case of problems. Tizio 17:12, 30 November 2009 (UTC)

Why does 'Hell Bent Forever' appear on DumbBot AFD lists?
editSo I use the DumbBOT AFD lists to do moppish cleanup tasks (thanks for the bot!). I'm confused, however, why Hell Bent Forever: A Tribute To Judas Priest always appears on User:DumbBOT/TimeSortedAfD and User:DumbBOT/IncompleteAfD. It's been there for at least a few months. WhatLinksHere for the article, which is what I usually use to clean up AFDs, doesn't indicate it's on any AFDs, named for the article or not. Is DumbBOT just messing with me? tedder (talk) 05:40, 29 November 2009 (UTC)
- The article still had Category:Articles for deletion on it. This is the typical case for articles under the "not linking to a discussion" subheading. I just removed the category and launched the bot again. Thanks for reporting. Tizio 16:57, 30 November 2009 (UTC)
- Aha- I didn't even know about the category, I've always used WhatLinksHere to find it. Thanks. tedder (talk) 17:19, 30 November 2009 (UTC)

Unreferenced BLPs
editHello Tizio! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 140 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

Some old pages in your userspace
editHi Tizio, you had two pages in your userspace under your old name, User:Paolo Liberatore/TestingThreePhaseSupply and User:Paolo Liberatore/TestThreePhasePumps, which were used to store some very old page history. I have managed to integrate them with main namespace pages at How to test three-phase electrical supply and How to test three-phase pumps. The former page was itself deleted after an RFD, and I've undeleted it because it was merged with another page. I've deleted the two pages in your userspace because they don't contain any history worth preserving anymore. Graham87 11:06, 13 February 2010 (UTC)
- I don't remember much about these... I think I kept them just because of the very old edits they contained. So, everything is fine as it is now, as far as I can see. Tizio 14:45, 15 February 2010 (UTC)
File permission problem with File:Xeyes.png
editThanks for uploading File:Xeyes.png. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.
If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. IngerAlHaosului (talk) 14:33, 9 March 2010 (UTC)

it seems that dumbot is not updating prodsum for the last few days.

User:Tosmith/Sandbox page
editI believe this page is posted in error: User:Tosmith/Sandbox
It appears to be an incomplete bio of Bill Gates and is linked from the "Billionaires in America" page. Could you have a look and take appropriate action? thanks, Trappem (talk) 15:32, 20 April 2010 (UTC)trappem
- Appears to be a test page in userspace, not linked from anywhere: Special:WhatLinksHere/User:Tosmith/Sandbox. Anyway, user has been inactive for a month, and this is just a copy of a mainspace page (with "Bill Gates" replaced by another name, possibly the user's), so I deleted it. DumbBOT down?
editI notice that DumbBOT hasn't updated anything in 2.5 days which seems odd to me. Any chance you could take a look at it? VernoWhitney (talk) 01:32, 26 April 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, there's a hole in the bot's contribution from Friday evening to this morning. I have no idea why: I didn't change anything this morning. Probabily something to do with the local network (local meaning on this side). Tizio 10:50, 26 April 2010 (UTC)
- Well, it's been operating sporadically (and appears to be currently down again), so there must be a recurrent issue. VernoWhitney (talk) 00:44, 28 April 2010 (UTC)
- Last time it did so, it was because of a misalignment between system and hardware clock... I will check this in the next few days.Tizio 18:07, 28 April 2010 (UTC)
- I think I traced down the problem. It's all very strange: a script that calls a program, at some point didn't find it any longer. Let's see what happens now.Tizio 12:45, 29 April 2010 (UTC)

- Looks fine to me. What's the problem, exactly? Tizio 12:08, 28 June 2010 (UTC)
- The Error: invalid time part. multichill (talk) 20:06, 28 June 2010 (UTC)
- That one is fixed: see Category:Wikipedia_files_with_the_same_name_on_Wikimedia_Commons_as_of_10_July_2010. The problem was with the starter template Template:Wikipedia_files_with_the_same_name_on_Wikimedia_Commons_starter. There is a remaining error (Unexpected < operator) but I think it is still related to the template. Tizio 15:41, 7 July 2010 (UTC)
- Something went wrong at Category:Wikipedia files with the same name on Wikimedia Commons as of 25 June 2010, could you have a look at it? multichill (talk) 19:05, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
So relatively recently I noticed that DumbBOT hasn't been finding blanked articles and listing them on the daily pages like it used to. At first we thought it was a problem caused by a change Moonriddengirl made to {{Copyviocore}} which changed the categories, and that may have been part of it, but after that change was undone there are still blanked articles which aren't getting listed at WP:CP, even though they are showing up at User:DumbBOT/TimeSortedCopyvio. Mitral valvuloplasty, for example, was tagged after MRG changed the categories back remained unlisted until I went through and logged it this morning. Any ideas what could be going on? VernoWhitney (talk) 17:50, 24 June 2010 (UTC)
- At the moment, I cannot look at this issue in details. Not before August, I'm afraid. Tizio 15:42, 7 July 2010 (UTC)
- No worries, I'm working on my bot to provide backup for cases like this, so keeping up with it by hand isn't a problem. VernoWhitney (talk) 15:47, 7 July 2010 (UTC)
User:DumbBOT/ProdSummary Some suggestions
edit1. Separate table for BLP prods.
2. 2 more entries in the table that might be helpful would be the "prodder" and the edit summary they used. This would help find "problem prodders". Example, someone trying to be sneaky by prodding without an edit summary (or a deceptive one) and/or marking the edit as minor. --Ron Ritzman (talk) 02:42, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
- Due to the recent changes, making a separate list for BLP shouldn't be that difficult. But, are you suggesting to make another table just for the BLPs, removing them from the main list, or just to split the original table in two?
- As for the edit summaries, I think this could be useful but also too complex to implement.Tizio 10:37, 24 August 2010 (UTC)
Broken
editDue to some changes in the prod template, the Bot no longer works. This is pretty critical for those of us patrolling prod, and I hope you can fix it quickly. I;ve also left a note for User:MSGJ who was responsible for the changes which he failed to check adequately. DGG ( talk ) 11:03, 15 August 2010 (UTC)
- The bot should work now. For the moment, what I did was just to convert the new template into the previous at some point during processing, so the bot should work on both cases.Tizio 10:39, 24 August 2010 (UTC)

Request of Protection for White Argentine
editHi, I'm Pablo Zeta, the one who's expanding White Argentine. Just a few days ago appeared a user -I suspect he/she is the same person for his way of writing, but he is using different IPs all the time- who is repeatedly placing templates of original research and lack of neutrality. I undid the changes every time, and I contacted him in the talk pages of each IP -but I don't know if he reads my replies- advicing him to create a personal account and contact me back, without results. I also answered him in the talk page of the article.
I apologize for placing the template of protection; I didn't know that only an administator can do so. I ask you to place a protection template to force this unknown user to create an account and identify himself, for his tactics is what we say in Spanish "throws the stone and hides his hand". I hope you consider and support my request. Thanks for your attention.--Pablozeta (talk) 16:03, 25 October 2010 (UTC)
- Placing such templates is not forbidden, just kind of pointless, since the anon can still edit the pages where they are. I don't have much time to check the issue myself, but I suggest making a request at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection. Tizio 18:18, 25 October 2010 (UTC)

Notification of pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity
editFollowing a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative permissions of users who have been inactive for one year (i.e. administrators who have not made any edits or logged actions in over one year). As a result of this discussion, your administrative permissions will be removed pending your return if you do not return to activity within the next month. If you wish to have these permissions reinstated should this occur, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e., as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised and that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions). This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts. Report Vandalism in Christina Aguilera Discography Page
editUser (talk) changes relevant information in the Christina Aguilera Discography page. "The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire)" as a single of "My Kind of Christmas" Ignoring the actual and reliable references that are already there in the Peak chart positions of every country. Notice of change
editHello. You are receiving this message because of a recent change to the administrator policy that alters what you were told at the time of your desysopping. The effect of the change is that if you are inactive for a continuous three year period, you will be unable to request return of the administrative user right. This includes inactive time prior to your desysopping if you were desysopped for inactivity and inactive time prior to the change in policy. Inactivity is defined as the absence of edits or logged actions. Until such time as you have been inactive for three years, you may request return of the tools at the bureaucrats' noticeboard. After you have been inactive for three years, you may seek return of the tools only through WP:RFA. Thank you. MBisanz talk 00:20, 4 December 2012 (UTC)

A request
editHi Tizio, could I ask you not to remove the protected template from User:SlimVirgin/FGM? I'm working on drafts there that I add to Female genital mutilation. It's a very minor issue, but having the template removed means I have to keep remembering to add it, or make it invisible/visible, so it adds to the nuisance factor. Having the template on a user subpage has no effect on anything (that I know of), so I'm hoping you can leave it while I work on the drafts. I'll remove it once I've got a completed draft in place. Many thanks, SlimVirgin (talk) 17:05, 19 September 2013 (UTC)
- I don't if this is still needed, anyway the bot won't modify the page any longer. Sorry for the delay. Tizio 12:51, 4 October 2013 (UTC)
A few minutes ago, when I was looking at the WP:RFD boards, I realized that DumbBOT did not post the subpages for Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2013 November 24 and Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2013 November 25 on Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion. I had to add them manually. Is there a reason why the bot is not posting those pages onto WP:RFD? Steel1943 (talk) 07:45, 25 November 2013 (UTC)
- Additional note: It also looks like DumbBOT is not creating the daily RfD subpages either. Steel1943 (talk) 08:00, 25 November 2013 (UTC)

Collecting some statistics from DumbBot?
editI have been looking over PROD lists and in my opinion a large minority of them are questionable. But how large, and how questionable?
Perhaps dumbot can help answer that. I understand it watches for items going on or off the list. Is that correct? If so, are those statistics collected anywhere?
My ultimate goal is to determine:
- how many articles are de-PRODed
- how many are de-PRODed by the admin handling deletion.
Do you think dumbot might help me in this quest?
England & Wales Page
editI noticed that your dumBOT "removed a protection template from a non-protected page". I would like to ask whether you believe my edits to be true and not misleading in anyway, regarding the England and Wales page. If you feel my input to the page is in fact correct, please continue to remove the protection template in order for other users and myself to remove the misleading information. Im afraid most of the idiots editing wikipedia do not understand what the law is and they choose to stand by "consensus" rather than use their own initiative. Just my humble opinion.
Thank you very much. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.139.234.201 (talk) 11:56, 27 August 2014 (UTC)

Dr. Idupuganti Bhooshana Rao - Regarding removal of tag ' proposed for deletion'.
editSir, The major corrections have been edited with attachments of relevant citations as advised by users. The following concern=clearly copied from another site , probably ref 3. "The members of the profession will learn many important facets of his life from recollections of his colleagues and students." is not true. But even this has been rectified.
So I request you kindly to undo the proposal of deletion, as he is important Forensic Pathologist in History of India and to suggest any necessary corrections for its presence in wikipedia.

Welcome to the ninth issue of the English Wikipedia's Bots Newsletter, your source for all things bot. Vicious bot-on-bot edit warring... superseded tasks... policy proposals... these stories, and more, are brought to you by Wikipedia's most distinguished newsletter about bots. After a long hiatus between August 2019 and December 2021, there's quite a bit of ground to cover. Due to the vastness, I decided in December to split the coverage up into a few installments that covered six months each. Some people thought this was a good idea, since covering an entire year in a single issue would make it unmanageably large. Others thought this was stupid, since they were getting talk page messages about crap from almost three years ago. Ultimately, the question of whether each issue covers six months or a year is only relevant for a couple more of them, and then the problem will be behind us forever. Of course, you can also look on the bright side – we are making progress, and this issue will only be about crap from almost two years ago. Today we will pick up where we left off in December, and go through the first half of 2020. Overall January 2020
