Thanks for the heads up. I created Mahilyow Airport in 2009 as a redirect. Today another user replaced that with a "cut and paste move" from Mogilev Airport. I have placed {{db-copypaste}} on Mahilyow Airport so it can be deleted, then the original Mogilev Airport article can be properly moved to maintain the edit history. -- Zyxw (talk) 23:26, 7 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Ways to improve Chase Johnsey

edit

Hi, I'm DBD. Zyxw, thanks for creating Chase Johnsey!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. Thanks for starting this. It's a good start but needs extensive rewriting so that it isn't just copied from the Grauniad source.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse.

DBD 20:40, 21 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

If I created that article, it was most likely as a redirect created years ago, which someone else then turned into an article. Apparently with copyrighted content as well, based on the post below. See that response for more. Thanks. -- Zyxw (talk) 00:49, 23 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Chase Johnsey

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Chase Johnsey requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://www.theguardian.com/stage/2017/feb/06/chase-johnsey-success-national-dance-awards. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Slashme (talk) 20:41, 21 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

If I created that article, is was most likely a redirect created years ago (probably in 2010 based on a similar redirect I found in my contributions history). Since you are stating copyright infringement from a Guardian article just published this month, I can absolutely state that content was not posted by me. Next time please find out who added the infringing content and direct your comments to that person. Doing otherwise makes it appear as if I post copyrighted content, which I certainly do not. -- Zyxw (talk) 00:49, 23 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Vatican City location map

edit

Since both of the maps refer to the same location but just require different ways to access them, which is very inconvenient for the user of either, shall we just merge them and make each map a different parameter of the default map (to be chosen)? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Oldstone James (talkcontribs) 13:00, 21 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Oldstone James: I believe you are referring to Template:Location map Vatican (which uses File:Vatican City location map.svg) and Module:Location map/data/Vatican City (which uses File:Location map of Vatican City.gif). The map images used in each of these {{Location map}} definitions have different edge coordinates. To the right are examples showing how a location would be incorrectly placed if these two images were combined into a single template or module. The actual edge coordinates can be found in the template and module documentation, both of which I updated. -- Zyxw (talk) 21:43, 24 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Zyxw: the updates really help; On the merging, though, can't you set different coordinates for different parameters?OlJa 22:22, 24 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Oldstone James: From the documentation at Template:Location map/Creating a new map definition, it appears that the map definition templates and modules only support a single set of edge coordinates (top, bottom, left, right) even though they support multiple map images (image, image1). As far as I can tell, Module:Location map does not support something like top1, bottom1, left1, right1 as an alternative set of coordinates for image1. -- Zyxw (talk) 10:22, 26 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Zyxw: Yeah, I can see - it is quite a poor job on the module creator's behalf; anyways, thanks for optimising this problem as much as possible OlJa 17:59, 26 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

{{webarchive}}

edit

Hi, I noticed your adding a lot of this template and they are showing up at Category:Webarchive template warnings. Per the documentation, each |url= should have a matching |date=. I think your putting the date in the |title= field or not using date.. |date= is required for each |url= so if there is a |url2= there should be a |date2=. Any questions let me know, thanks. -- GreenC 14:04, 23 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Template:Ice hockey stats

edit

Thanks for adding wikidata to this template. I have been wanting to do it but could never get it working. That being said, did you test it on any pages to see if it worked? I asked because I have tried it without values on a player that had wikidata for the parameters and it did not seem to pull the data down. -DJSasso (talk) 13:49, 26 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Just realized the problem, and was probably the reason I didn't think it was working when I did it too. If you have param= in the template it ignores the wikidata and treats it as a value. So removing them works. Yikes that is a lot of templates that are going to have to have the param names removed from. -DJSasso (talk) 13:53, 26 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Sorry for all the messages. Just noticed something. Any chance you could change it so that if legendsm is filled out that it doesn't pull the value for legends? An example is Adam Oates. We just use the hall of fame one (legendsm) for players that are in the hall of fame. Since it is only pulling on empty that means all the hall of fame players are getting two links for legends of hockey.-DJSasso (talk) 14:09, 26 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi there. After a chat with Trappist, I am trying to find an appropriate home for this function, so that we can then #invoke it from {{link language}}. Would you accept it in Module:External links please? If not, where would be a better place? Thanks. 2A02:C7D:DA0A:DB00:1427:B5B3:C6BB:9F1D (talk) 20:04, 23 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hello. I read the discussion at the link you provided. I would suggest creating a new module to contain that Lua code, rather than adding it to an existing module. Just move or copy the code from Module:Sandbox/trappist_the_monk/bob to Module:Link language render or some other name of your choosing.
Module:External links is a copy of no:Modul:External links, which generates external links using multiple properties from an article's Wikidata item. It is still a work in progess here on enwiki as I still need to create the additional supporting modules and templates as well as create some English language documentation.
Thanks. -- Zyxw (talk) 12:22, 24 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Page mover granted

edit

Hello, Zyxw. Your account has been granted the "extendedmover" user right, either following a request for it or demonstrating familiarity with working with article names and moving pages. You are now able to rename pages without leaving behind a redirect, and move subpages when moving the parent page(s).

Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Page mover for more information on this user right, especially the criteria for moving pages without leaving redirect. Please remember to follow post-move cleanup procedures and make link corrections where necessary, including broken double-redirects when suppressredirect is used. This can be done using Special:WhatLinksHere. It is also very important that no one else be allowed to access your account, so you should consider taking a few moments to secure your password. As with all user rights, be aware that if abused, or used in controversial ways without consensus, your page mover status can be revoked.

Converting use of NFT player template

edit

Hello. I was wondering why you were effectively substing use of {{NFT player}}, as in this edit to List of Lincoln City F.C. players. Is this your own idea, or has it been discussed somewhere? cheers, Struway2 (talk) 09:06, 14 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

The reason I ask is, this and similar templates have been written or expanded so that they can be used for citations and not just as external links, because
  1. they generate standardised output compatible in appearance with cite-web-style citations but without the complexity of cite-web-style formatting, which is particularly helpful for inexperienced users; and
  2. if the url format of the website changes, as they not infrequently do, there's a decent chance that the template code can be fixed to cope with the changes: which means we only have to amend one template and not several thousand individual citations.
If they get substituted, advantage #2 disappears forthwith. And if they're no longer visible in articles, the new editor doesn't see them so doesn't learn that they exist. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 13:00, 14 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
Hello. I was doing that while updating articles with external links that could be converted to use external link templates. Based on your comments, I won't change any additional NFT player templates in <ref>...</ref> tags to Cite web. Thanks. -- Zyxw (talk) 21:20, 14 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Fullname parameter

edit

Hi, I have reverted your edit at Ronald Zubar, where you removed the sourced full name from the fullname parameter in the infobox. You replaced it with a hidden comment, explaining that it should only be filled "if different". However, this is not supported by the template documentation, which instructs us that it is for "The player's complete name". Whether that complete name is the same as the common name is neither here nor there, it should be included if supported by a reliable source. Transfermarkt

edit

Over the past few days you've added links Transfermarkt to articles, either as a reference or as an external link. Please stop doing this. They don't advertise it much, but all of Transfermarkt's stat database is user-generated, making it a self-published source. There have even been a number of citogenesis incidents involving Transfermarkt. In light of this, there is also a fairly strong consensus against allowing it as an external link. (You'll note here that despite some 3000+ links to Transfermarkt on the 'pedia, none of them are in the article namespace.) Thanks. Sir Sputnik (talk) 22:52, 28 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Adding cats

edit

Hi Zyxw - is there any reason you've been adding of categories for Olympic medalists after the stub templates? it makes for a bit of confusion when all the other categories on an anrticle are in their proper place (before the stub templates) like here. Grutness...wha? 01:31, 21 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

That occurs when using Cat-a-lot to add categories, as seen in this diff of another Wikipedia user adding a category with Cat-a-lot. Note that HotCat may also add categories after stub templates, as seen in this diff. Hopefully, these tools will be updated to place added categories above any stub templates. In the meantime, AutoWikiBrowser is capable of fixing this when general fixes is enabled, as shown in this diff. -- Zyxw (talk) 18:37, 21 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
I see you are adding Category:World Rowing Championships medalists at the moment. Just so you know, I'm currently going through the World Rowing Championships pages to move the rowers into sub-categories by country. I'm currently dealing with the Germans (East and West; 1979 World Rowing Championships is the next one to do). So as long as I'll create a country sub-category, I'll "catch" all the missing rowers. edit

with the first part of this edit, but it broke Alan Power's Soccerway link fairly comprehensively... cheers, Struway2 (talk) 17:46, 10 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

And why are you removing height conversions like this? Having heights only in meters makes articles less useful for readers in retrograde countries that still use feet and inches. – Jonesey95 (talk) 19:03, 10 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Struway2: The edit was an attempt to remove the article from Category:Soccerway template with ID not matching pattern. The incorrectly formatted ID was in the Soccerway template for Lee Beevers, which I have fixed. The incorrect edit to the Soccerway template for Alan Power was a result of the usually formatted reference. Thanks, Zyxw (talk) 21:50, 11 November 2017 (UTC).Reply
@Jonesey95: The infobox automatically displays conversions, so height = 1.82 m is displayed on the page as "1.82 m (6 ft 0 in)". The output would be identical if the infobox contained height = {{height|m=1.82|precision=0}}. However, I restored the {{height}} template on the article in question because it used height = {{height|m=1.82|precision=}} which displayed as "1.82 m (5 ft 11 1⁄2 in)". Thanks, Zyxw (talk) 21:50, 11 November 2017 (UTC).Reply

Problem with template

Hello, there is a problem with the points in the DOM-PER result here. It reads: Total 100–67, and should be 100-74. Why is not working? --Osplace 20:44, 16 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Osplace: The problem was that {{Vb res 51}} calculated an incorrect total of 100–67 because the scores in set 4 of DOM v. PER were entered as 25-16 (with a hyphen) instead of 25–16 (with a dash). This is mentioned in the template's documentation at Template:Vb res 51/doc § Note. After making that change here, the total is now correctly calculated as 100–74. -- Zyxw (talk) 00:27, 17 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

@WhisperToMe: In June 2013 when I created those templates, I recall we didn't have map images available for all of the states. That has since changed (see commons:Category:Location maps of states of Mexico), so I created modules for Querétaro and the seven other Mexican states which did not have one:
  1. Module:Location map/data/Mexico Baja California
  2. Module:Location map/data/Mexico Chiapas
  3. Module:Location map/data/Mexico Durango
  4. Module:Location map/data/Mexico Nuevo León
  5. Module:Location map/data/Mexico Querétaro
  6. Module:Location map/data/Mexico Sinaloa
  7. Module:Location map/data/Mexico Tamaulipas
  8. Module:Location map/data/Mexico Zacatecas
Also, I only created the map definitions and the template/module documentation. The actual maps were created by others, including Addicted04, Battroid, and MikSed. -- Zyxw (talk) 07:29, 20 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

SFA player template

A heads up - the SFA have updated their website. The id numbers don't see to have changed, but the links have been shortened from old format to new format. Jmorrison230582 (talk) 13:54, 13 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
