You are misunderstanding how Template:Birth based on age as of date works. The first parameter is the age as listed in a publication, and the other three are the year, month, and day of the publication (NOT the date of birth). For example, if a newspaper article on February 15, 2010 listed a person's age as 30, then the template used is {{birth based on age as of date|30|2010|2|15}}. Invitation to events in June and July: bot, script, template, and Gadget makers wanted

I invite you to the yearly Berlin hackathon. It's 1-3 June and registration is now open. If you need financial assistance or help with visa or hotel, just mention it in the registration form.

This is the premier event for the MediaWiki and Wikimedia technical community. We'll be hacking, designing, and socialising, primarily talking about ResourceLoader and Gadgets (extending functionality with JavaScript), the switch to Lua for templates, Wikidata, and Wikimedia Labs.

Our goals for the event are to bring 100-150 people together, including lots of people who have not attended such events before. User scripts, gadgets, API use, Toolserver, Wikimedia Labs, mobile, structured data, templates -- if you are into any of these things, we want you to come!

I also thought you might want to know about other upcoming events where you can learn more about MediaWiki customization and development, how to best use the web API for bots, and various upcoming features and changes. We'd love to have power users, bot maintainers and writers, and template makers at these events so we can all learn from each other and chat about what needs doing.

Edit to Location map USA

Back in August you edited the template {{Location map USA}} and changed the value of {{{name}}} form "the USA" to "United States". The only time I am aware of that this value is used is when {{Location map+}} uses it to construct alt text which reads "<label> is located in <name>." Which in this case might result in "Chicago located in United States." So it seems to me that it would be best if it read "Chicago is location in the United States." So I am wondering if you had some reason to remove the "the". I'm wondering if you know of somewhere else that the name is used in was that makes the use of the "the" inappropriate. –droll [chat] 16:55, 17 April 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the work you've done to explain this. Your first example generates the alt text, "Chicago is located in United States," which is not good. I agree that the caption, "Chicago (the United States)," would not be good either. I never did think much of the default caption idea. The inconsistency in the captions generated in these three examples is definitely undesirable. I'm going to have to think on this some more. Deletion of the details of the Naukiti airport, Alaska

Hello. When viewing an aerial image for the coordinates provided at FlightStats (55.36667°N 133.21666°W / 55.36667; -133.21666) I did not see a runway, so either those coordinates are incorrect or this is a former airport. However, since you provided a reference for the IATA code "NKI", I have restored Naukiti to the list of airports in Alaska. I did not restore the FAA identifier "NKI" since that does not exist and I could not find any current FAA identifier for this airport. -- Zyxw (talk) 17:57, 27 September 2012 (UTC)

To be honest, I do not know where that IATA-referenced "airport" (it could be a sea plane base as well) is exactly located. From the historical data, which I keep from IATA, that airport is not a newly referenced one (e.g., it was already present in 2010 in the IATA reference lists). In the IATA non public lists, they give 55°51′52″N 133°11′32″W, which corresponds to Naukati Bay, Alaska and to a sea plane base I have therefore created on Geonames. TheAirDB also locates Naukiti airport at that place. That sounds consistent if Naukiti and Naukati are a single place. However, as you have already noticed, Google Maps locates Naukiti airport 55 kilometres (30 NM) kms in the South of Naukati Bay; but, from the corresponding details page on Google Map Maker, there seems to be no evidence that they are more savvy than IATA and, above all, there is no supporting evidence that that place would be named Naukiti...
To add to the confusion, there is still another IATA-referenced (IATA: WNC) sea plane base in the vicinity of Naukati Bay, namely Naukati Bay Seaplane Base (aka Nichin Cove sea plane base), also referenced by Geonames, TheAirDB and FlightStats.
From all that, I therefore believe that Naukiti "airport" is a sea plane base, located on the Naukati Bay island, and that Naukiti and Naukati correspond to the same place. -- Denis.arnaud (talk) 11:14, 29 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi. You just re-added the AOP IATA code to the Alférez FAP Alfredo Vladimir Sara Bauer Airport (see [1]). However, as seen on the IATA Web site, AOP designates the airports of Andoas instead. The IATA website search results for airport code AOP give the city name as Andoas, but the airport name is not given:

That should mean AOP is the IATA code for the airport serving Andoas, which is Alférez FAP Alfredo Vladimir Sara Bauer Airport (also known as Andoas Airport). So, unless you know of another airport serving Andoas, I believe that IATA code is correct.

Many thanks for that extensive research! I have checked on the OAG Web site, where they provide an airport look up widget (see also Where-Can-I-Fly-Direct and Which-Airlines-Fly-My-Route) and an exhaustive airport/city code book which may be browsed online. OAG provides the flight schedules and charters for all the airlines of the world (though, for charters, OAG lists are not exhaustive). While CJA/Cajamarca and PIU/Piura are appearing in the flight schedule tables of OAG, AOP/Andoas and CHM/Chimbote are not. As you stated, this simply means that those airports are exclusively used privately. So, there is no current need for IATA and OAG to reference them as airport, besides referencing them as metropolitan areas/cities. Personally, I would rather not state that AOP and CHM are airport codes, because the average traveler cannot find any travel means to fly from/to them (see, for instance, the Web site of LAN Perú). On the other side, I also understand that one can consider that those existing airports, since they are servicing (private) passengers, deserve to get the IATA code of the corresponding metropolitan area/city.
