MilHist GA discussion

Thank you for your comment at the Strachwitz GAR; another editor left a message on my Talk page expressing similar sentiment: "I wonder if perhaps trivial and excessive details are a systemic issue among the military articles."

I have previously raised the issue of MilHist FA/GA articles in the April MilHist FA/GA discussion, in which you happened to participate. The results were inconclusive, with some editors noting "Problem is that if we start scouring through the pile we will inevitably get ourselves dirty.", while another editor called me a "campaigner", writing: "This whole process has been dubious. You have now created what is effectively an attack page on Kurowski..." I'm actually pleased with the Franz Kurowski article -- I believe that it's comprehensive and covers the topic well :-).

In any case, thank you for your advice to bring the GAR to a wider audience. I've posted to WP:RSN and WP:NPOVN, but these did not appear to gain traction. What other avenues would you recommend? K.e.coffman (talk) 04:52, 24 June 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for writing. It seems like an almost ludicrous situation, with vast amounts of minor details and fancruft inserted in articles. I noticed that the same practice extends beyond military history to articles on movies on military subjects. I have my own personal interests in that area, such as the discussion you mentioned, and I can understand how that develops. I'm working on an article on a couple of interesting people who were spies for Britain during World War II and I can understand how one can possibly be swept up in detail concerning people one is interested in. Hi Core, just thought I'd pop by and ask if you would class my follow up to an oppose !vote as 'ragging'? I completely understand your point, and to be honest with you there is a fine line between a follow up question and just trying to cause arguments, so your input would be appreciated. No, not your comment specifically, but I was just concerned that both opposes had comments. Personally I think the person you were commenting on is being unreasonable in suggesting that 25 articles is some kind of minimum, but as you can see their view is in the minority. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Hi. I just wanted to drop you a line and say thanks for looking at the Michael Weiss article. Upon review, your criticisms of my work are pretty valid. When reading The Nation Article, I didn't see that the writer was not an analyst for The Nation itself (they have their own columnist/editorial section). A lot of the Weiss criticisms I pointed out are valid, they just don't have {WP:RS] sources. But you are also right that they shouldn't dominate a page. I didn't think they did, until after I read your response, took a step back and realized I was wrong.
