You declined my speedy on the above and I can understand the confusion. However the page was created by User:Bendegobebdego which means that User:Bendegobebdego33030 never existed since the name was never registered except by the creation of a talk page. Hey Diannaa. An article was recently deleted CSD nominated and deleted by you due to several justifiable reasons. After seeing the page, I wanted to convey the page authors (my college mates) that they need to improve upon the article before it can really make it to the wiki. However, the article was removed before we can back up the content. I was wondering if you can provide the last version of the page Gopali Youth Welfare Society as a sub page under my username. Non-free use rationale album covers

Diannaa, thank you for bringing the Non-free use rationale album cover template to my attention. I will use the template for album cover files I upload. I have a couple of questions about its proper use though.

Most of the time, I have created the cover art file to be uploaded by scanning the actual album cover. What should I include in the template to indicate this source for the file?

Alternatively, cover art is often found on a website. However, the image on the website is not usually of the proper resolution, per fair use and Wikiproject Albums guidelines. In these instances, I have copied the image and modified it before uploading. Should the website still be cited in the template even though the image file has been altered?

Hi Keesling. For covers you scan from the actual album cover, use the "source" field, and put "scanned by uploader". For ones you find online, list the source website regardless of whether you re-size the file or not. The current standard size for album covers is about 300 x 300. If you upload any that are larger than 400 x 400, you should tag them with the template {{non-free reduce}}, and a bot will come along and reduce them for you. -- Diannaa (talk) 13:22, 11 August 2015 (UTC)

You showed on the images that the copyright holder is "Total Environment". Wikipedia requires proof that the copyright holder has given permission for the images to be displayed here. What has to happen is the copyright holder has to send an email to the OTRS team, releasing the images under license. Detailed instructions were posted on your talk page on the 26th of July as to how to do it. Since no proof was provided that the copyright holder gave permission for the images to be uploaded here, they were all deleted on August 3. -- Diannaa (talk) 04:46, 13 August 2015 (UTC)

Thank you for your interest in creating an article for this organisation for wikipedia. There are several problems with your submission. You cannot post copyright material on Wikipedia even if you are the copyright holder, unless special licensing permissions are in place. That is because Wikipedia aims to be freely distributable and copyable by anyone, and all content must have the appropriate documentation in place before that can happen. Please see this policy Wikipedia:Copyrights which explains how it works.

The second problem is notability. I am not sure the organisation is notable enough, as Wikipedia defines it, to have an article. We require write-ups in reliable third party sources such as newpapers, magazines, or online publishers to establish notability. New articles about persons or organisations that are not notable are typically speedily deleted.

The third problem is conflict of interest. Writing an article about your own organisation or that of a client is strongly discouraged, as it is difficult to maintain the required neutral point of view. According to our terms of use, paid editors and people editing on behalf of their employer are required to disclose their conflict of interest by posting a notice on their user page or talk page.

So if you wish to add the copyrighted content to a Wikipedia article, the proper licenses and permissions will have to be in place. Please see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how that would be done. Or, you could write a new article that does not closely paraphrase the material available on line. And you would have to avoid the conflict of interest guideline while doing so. Even then, chances are that the article would be speedily deleted as not notable enough for an article. 1. You must first declare your conflict of interest, as required by the Terms of Service. Put a statement on your user page, which is located here.
2. Create your article in draft space, following the instructions at Help:Userspace draft. DO NOT copy any material directly from the corporate website. It all must be written in your own words.
3. When you think the article is ready for publication, submit it to the queue for review, and an experienced reviewer will check it for you. This step may take some time, as there's a backlog of articles waiting to be reviewed. Good luck -- Diannaa (talk) 14:09, 18 August 2015 (UTC)

Request assistance with Conduit article

Hi Diannaa,

I see you've been very involved with the disputes over Conduit (publisher network and platform) in the past.

There's been a huge change at the company -- it sold the entire toolbar business. Conduit is now in an entirely different business, mobile app builders. As a result, much of the article is now out of date. It's about a platform that no longer exists rather than the company that built it originally but is now doing something else.

I wonder if you could take a look at the new Talk entry I've just placed on the article, which includes a link to a redraft. Talk:Conduit (publisher network and platform)

This may require some consensus building given the history here, but my guess is that most people will eventually be fine with the changes when they realize the platform they're concerned about does not exist. The new company that bought the business, Perion, has integrated it into their products.

I have a WP:COI and will not do any direct editing to the article.

It appears that images that I uploaded for an article were deleted, citing "F9: Media file copyright violation without credible claim of fair use or permission."

I believe that when uploaded, I stated that I had generated the image myself using software that I legally purchased. Furthermore, the EULA for the software (Tomb Raider 2013 game) does not at all prohibit publication or distribution of images/screenshots. If I did not state that, then I apologize for not citing my claim to fair use -- as the file is deleted I can not longer check on it.

So, if I need to provide more information, what information do I need to provide? Else, can you un-delete the files (the tags seemed to indicate that I should not automatically un-delete the files).

Since I am new to the Wikipedia intricacies of all this admin editing stuff, if you can either respond on my talk page, or otherwise perform an action such that I will receive a notification informing me to check on this topic, that would be appreciated.

Sure. Also, I will reference to my claim of the software being opensource on the TressFX wikipedia page next time I get to editing it.

i.e. on this page, https://community.amd.com/community/gaming/blog/2015/05/12/tressfx-hair-cross-platform-and-v20/ , in the section below the bar graphs, it repeatedly talks about the benefits of TressFX being an open-source and also modifiable code. And on this page http://developer.amd.com/tools-and-sdks/graphics-development/amd-radeon-sdk/ you can go and download the code yourself, if you so feel inclined.

On a more philosophical note, TressFX being open source or closed source is not what would or would not make the 2 uploaded images either ok or not ok to upload. TressFX is one bit of code used within the game, and the game allows screenshots and such (post-release screen-shots are rather encouraged by most games as screenshots will to some extent promote the game). So, it is because the game allows taking and sharing or screenshots, and I have a license to the game, *this* is why I am allowed to generate and share those pictures.

Two license templates are needed on each file: one for the software you used to generate the image, and one for the image itself (such as a cc-by-sa-3.0). Somewhere in the company's website there should be copyright information for the TressFX software. A post by a user on their blog is not adequate documentation. Ideally the copyright holder sends the email themselves from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating ownership of the material and their intention to publish it under a free license. Connie Converse Page and Photo

Hi Diannaa, I received a notice that further information was needed to verify the authorization for use of the photo I used on the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Connie_Converse page. I was hoping that you could provide me with some assistance in resolving this matter. I have looked into the various options and I have a few questions and could really use your expertise. Upon further investigation, this photo was taken by the Converse family as a personal portrait, which was supplied to the newspaper, and therefore not subject to the newspaper's copyright. Given this, it seems the best thing would be to re-upload the photo using the "This is a copyrighted, non-free work, but I believe it is Fair Use" option, because "This is an historic portrait of a person no longer alive". However, since Connie Converse disappeared, there is no "deceased since" date. I have been in contact with the legal representative of the Converse family and the Converse estate, who has indicated that a death certificate was recently issued, and they also provided permission to use the photo for non commercial purposes. I am not so experienced with wikipedia, and would really appreciate any guidance you can offer on this matter as I'm interested in making sure I follow the proper procedure with this and any future images I upload.

Additionally, any insights you could offer on how this wiki page could be improved to better conform with wiki standards would be greatly appreciated.

Ronen Shilo

Hi Dianna,

An article Ronen Shilo you have gad protected the last few years has been nominated for deletion because it doesn't have enough sources. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ronen Shilo

As you may remember, Shilo is the CEO of Israel's largest Internet company but apparently hasn't done many interviews, but given his prominence it's worth trying to find a way to keep him. As the company I run has a business relationship with Conduit, I have a WP:COI.

I've never edited this article. I see it could use more sourcing, so I created a new proposed draft on my sandbox here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:BC1278/sandbox It includes articles focused on just him from Fast Company magazine and Inc. Magazine, both very high quality sources, as well as more information about his early and personal life from Israel magazine sources.

The editor nominating for deletion, User:Grump International followed the article about Shilo over from Conduit (company), which was split off by an admin from Conduit (publisher network and platform). The new article is almost entirely from the original article, but focused just on the company, with about four sentences of updates. The original article is now just about the platform. I didn't edit the original or split off the new one. The admin User: Graeme Bartlett did.

User:Grump International tagged the new article as reading like a "news release" and said in Talk it had non-neutral content, I think because he saw I disclosed I had a WP:COI, and I had prepared the draft which the admin User: Graeme Bartlett brought live. But for the most part, I just copied verbatim, the work of more than a dozen other editors over the past five years, from the original article. Some sources were from Internet user forums and user manuals, so I didn't include these because they don't qualify under WP:V

Hi BC1278. The article has been nominated for deletion not because it doesn't have enough sources, but because notability has not been established. He looks like an ordinary CEO to me with no particular claim to notability, so I would not be surprised if it was deleted. The only reason I edited/protected these articles (Conduit and Shilo) was because they were among a suite of articles under attack in 2011. Hi Newyorkbrad. Thank you for the notification. I will answer here, because someone has blocked the two silly ones and the bot has removed them from the board. Regarding the ones who choose silly usernames, I have noticed that typically if they don't edit the first day, they never edit at all, so blocking is not needed; no need to even post a warning. This is in line with the admin instructions for the board, which are here. For the COI ones, the policy says that when someone creates a problematic user name in good faith, to talk to them about it as the first resort. I find that in almost all cases as soon as the person has the username/COI rules explained to them, they stop editing. Answered reports of both of these types are placed in the holding pen for monitoring and follow-up. Users who are actively and repeatedly spamming I block right away. Same with usernames that are offensive or obscene or impersonate another user. I block them right away whether they have any edits or not. -- Diannaa (talk) 14:38, 22 August 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for that response. On the "silly" usernames, it may not be critical to block them, but once there is a report in, it seems more efficient to deal with it than to task the reporting editor with monitoring for the account to edit. On the "COI" usernames, I find my threshold for that to be a problem is triggered less often than other admins', and I don't usually deal with those sort of names at all; it was the reference to the pending litigation, implying an official role in the case, that troubled me. The monitoring of is done by listing them in the holding pen, where they are reviewed by a patrolling admin in the coming weeks. I agree that blocking is more efficient but not blocking accounts that have never edited is explicitly permitted, according to the instructions. I had a couple instances when I first started working the board where people thought I was being too bite-y so perhaps I have now swung too far the other way. The one with the litigation I actually had the block button fired up but I changed my mind at the last minute. However, all the sentences in the article (except for the first two, which were already present in Green building before the copyvio material was added there) can be found scattered—mutatis non mutandis—on page 3 of this newsletter, dated June 2009. I don't like to speedy articles on only my own say-so, so I tagged it rather than just deleting it; but I wish you'd reconsider your declining of the speedy. Initially copyvio picture of Justin Bieber changed to free licence during edit-warring

Hi Dianna. User Alvandria started adding a recently uploaded to Commons picture of Justin Bieber which was initially a copyvio because its first license claimed it was from Getty images. When I reverted him/her they claimed that "Getty images" was not mentioned in the license of the image. That was true, because in the meantime, the uploader at Commons, probably a sock of Alvandria, changed the license within minutes of my original revert to a flickr license under CC by SA 2.0. However at the time of my reversion, that CC by SA v. 2.0 had a dollar sign with a diagonal line through it. Now the flicker license changed and it does not have that dollar sign with the diagonal line. It is apparent that Alvandria is either the photographer or knows him and they changed the flicker license recently. I request some assistance with this. This looks to me like a case of Flickr washing, where a copyright image is uploaded to Flickr with a compatible license and then uploaded here. This website and others clearly tag it as property of Getty Images, which makes it unavailable to us. I have tagged the image for deletion on the Commons. Edit war seems to have stopped for now. Unfortunately the source web page was never archived in the Wayback Machine. Another tool shows the source web page was created in 2010. The majority of the suspect content was added by an IP in one big addition here in 2011. From this I think it is safe to assume that all the overlapping content was copied to Wikipedia from the source website rather than the other way around. I will clean it up now. I have restored the userspace draft User:VISaf/Pavel Karmanov and removed the copyright violations, which were from http://pavelkarmanov.com/bio, the portions in Russian. Note that as the article stands right now, there's not enough evidence that the subject is notable enough for a Wikipeida article at this time, and the article could be deleted on those grounds. A good rule of thumb is to have extensive coverage (not just brief mentions) in at least three independent sources. For musicians, additional notability requirements can be found at WP:band. Hi Terabar. Newspapers buy images from photographers, or pay a fee for their use. In most instances the original photographer retains the copyright to the image. That's whose copyright you are violating when you copy the images here. Sometimes websites take images and use them without the copyright holder's permission, but that does not make it okay for you to do the same and bring the pictures here (or to the Commons). You tagged the images as being your own work; that's not true. You did not take any of these photos and don't have the right to upload them here. Please don't upload any more photos that you did not take with your own camera. Also, in the Mayawati article, you copied some prose directly from the Times of India. You can't do that; it's a copyright violation. Please respect copyright law. Hi there Hitro. The reason I don't block them is because in the vast majority (over 99%) of the cases, once the users are informed of the policy, they cease using the account. If you report it at WP:UAA, I will template the user and add it to the holding pen, Wikipedia:Usernames for administrator attention/Holding pen, and the user's contribs will get checked in the following weeks to ensure that they have abandoned the account. The ones who persist in editing after being made aware of the policy can be blocked when the material in the holding pen is reviewed. If you place the template on the talk page yourself, the case does not get added to the holding pen. The various templates do automatically add them to the category Wikipedia usernames with possible policy issues, but nobody is following up and assessing users in that category at present, and it currently contains 3,774 usernames. I understand that, but WP:ORGNAME is subsection of WP:IU and they clearly mention on WP:UAA/HP act according to the policy on dealing with inappropriate usernames. However, they are promotional accounts, they wont help the project, at least 99% of them won't. They were not misleading or offensive usernames, where we needed clarification, plus their contributions suggested why they created these accounts at Wikipedia. Inquiry on the Username Policy

I've been attempting to increase my comprehension of the Username policy as of late. I've noticed your name at WP:UAA quite often. If you don't mind, I had a question: I recently reported User:Sonya Hussyn (not linking as I don't care to ping them) because of their misuse of their user page (I applied a CSD U5 and G11 tag leading to its deletion) and their only edits in the article namespace being to Soniya Hussain. It is probably one of two things, the editor is indeed Soniya Hussain or a representative, or the editor is a fan impersonating them in a certain sense. Do we assume the former and serve a COI notice (as I did), or the latter per WP:REALNAME's do not edit under a name that is likely to imply that you are (or are related to) a specific, identifiable person, unless it is your real name statement (or alternatively is it not a violation of the quote above because of the spelling differences in this case). Hi Godsy and thanks for your question. Each case has to be assessed individually. If I think it's a fan or an impersonator, I block them right off. For this particular user, because of the content they added to the article (date of birth, details of wedding planning), my impression is that it's the actual subject of the article. On its own, the spelling difference would not be an obstacle to blocking. Could you take another look at AMIFX? He changed his username from another specifically for reuse as a role account, and has merrily continued editing his company's draft instead of discussing his username per your template.... which was completely predictable. He hasn't ever responded to any of my or User:Marchjuly's attempts at communication, whether on his talk page or by directly editing his draft to get it policy-compliant. I'd have blocked him without a second thought if he started out with this username, which would have saved everyone concerned a great deal of effort and frustration. —Cryptic 05:53, 3 September 2015 (UTC)

I was pinged so I'll comment. The user repeatedly tried to use non-free images in their draft which were removed only to be re-added later. A number of the images they have uploaded to Commons have been deleted as copyvios as well. Chunks of copyrighted text has also been removed from their draft. At first, this could be attributed to a new user not really knowing the rules about those kinds of things, but they should be aware of them by now. The name change from "Joey Kinyanjui" to "AMIFX" was approved at Wikipedia:Changing username/Simple/Archive191#Joey Kinyanjui → AMIFX, but the robot clerk probably didn't make the WP:CORPNAME connection. The reason given for the name change does seem legitimate, but the lack of any response from the editor regarding the various things posted on their user talk is a bit of a concern when you consider that they are a SPA and might possibly just be here for reasons other than to build an encyclopedia. Even so, I'm not sure what can be done other than blocking them for their username. In that case, they can just request that it be changed to something else and eventually go back to working on their draft, can't they? In fairness though, they haven't edited since August 25 (the same day Diannaa posted on their user talk) so maybe they're busy in the real world and unable to respond. One last thing, this edit made to another editor's draft is sort of strange. The content of the edit seems fine, but both editors are SPAs with no real edits made outside of their respective drafts so I'm not sure how they found each other. - Marchjuly (talk) 07:06, 3 September 2015 (UTC)

There's a huge sock farm recently been uncovered; perhaps it's related to that (though these two accts were not discovered by the checkusers). See Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Archive274#Wikipedia:Long-term abuse/Orangemoody, which was posted on August 31. AMIFX could theoretically be blocked for the username, and I have gone ahead and done that, even though they have already stopped editing, because it's certain they have a COI and/or are an undisclosed paid editor. AMIFX last edited on August 25, and Haralvarez (creator of the Ohio Strikers United draft) on August 26. I want to create article on that scotch which will be named Whyte & Mackay (scotch) (redirect that I just created). So can there be an article on it? Because both of them having same name, people may ask for "merge" later etc. But these are clear cut two different things, one is company name and other is product name. Moreover Whyte & Mackay (scotch) is very famous and honorable brand, it deserves article, I wonder why there is no separate article on this scotch yet. I just need your suggestion. WP:PRODUCT says not to create articles on individual products unless the article about the corporation is already too large. I provided a long explanation as to why I thought no free equivalent would ever be available, or could be created. Perhaps you thought it was obvious as to why you didn't find my explanation convincing. Sorry. It is not obvious.

Non- free content has to pass all ten non-free content requirements in order to qualify for fair use. This image fails on a couple of counts. The image is not critical to our understanding of the subject of the articles in which it was included, and does not tell us anything that cannot be described using words alone. It therefore fails WP:NFCC #1 "No free equivalent. Non-free content is used only where no free equivalent is available" because it can be replaced with prose explaining that the two people are father and daughter, and both subjects are living, which means that the photo could at least in theory be replaced by a freely licensed one. It also fails NFCC #8 "Contextual significance. Non-free content is used only if its presence would significantly increase readers' understanding of the article topic, and its omission would be detrimental to that understanding". The photo doesn't greatly increase our understanding of the subject of either article, so it fails this criterion as well. -- Diannaa (talk) 14:09, 4 September 2015 (UTC)

Hi Diannaa. First of all, thanks for clarifying things at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree files/2015 August 24#File:Mouseheart Vol 1 Cover.jpg. Can you take a look at Mouseheart (series) again because an IP is trying to use all three non-free images in the infobox which I don't think is allowed per WP:NFCC#3a. If there was some kind of officially made "collage" of all three covers images, then I think that might be OK, simply adding nfurs for each image and using them like this does not seem acceptable, at least to me. What do you think about File:Hannibal Lecter.png? • File:2015CottonBowl.png and File:2010 IIHF World Championship Division I Logo.png, etc: it looks like these discussion are still open, and no one ever decided what to do.
• The discussion at Wikipedia:Non-free content review/Archive 49#File:Lecter, Hannibal.png was about File:Lecter, Hannibal.png, and the discussion was closed as delete, and the image was deleted in January 2014. File:Hannibal Lecter.png is a different collage, created in May 2014; the only image that appears in both collages is the one in the lower left corner. If it was nominated for deletion it would in all likelyhood be deleted as violating NFCC #3a.
• Note the closer in the Bucky case says that "Merging images in a user-created montage does not work to reduce non-free, a collage still counts for as many individual images that it includes." -- Diannaa (talk) 23:35, 4 September 2015 (UTC)

Regarding Hannibal and Bucky, I was referring to the "Agreed, either that article can use that collage and ditch the other 3 non-frees on the Hannibal Lecter page, or drop this montage, keep the 4th image that isn't duplicated by the other three, for four images total. " and "Only a montage created by the copyright owner can be used and considered as a single non-free." statements made by Masem repsecitvely in each. The image File:Three Diamond Jubilee medals.jpg is currently tagged as fair use. (Notice that this image has two copyright tags: one for the photograph, and another for the medals themselves.) The reason I uploaded a new version of that image is because non-free images have to be small and low resolution to comply with our non-free content requirement. Specifically, requirement #3b requires that non-free images need to be low resolution. Our non-free content requirements are quite strict in other ways as well. Non-free images are only permitted in an article directly related to that image. For example, usage of File:Lieutenant Governor's Aide de camp insignia for BC Québec and NB.png in the article Lieutenant (navy) is not a permitted use. For more information on our non-free content policy, please see WP:NFCC and for images there's more at WP:NFC#UUI. If you feel that any of the images that you posted in the above gallery qualify for deletion, please feel free to go ahead and nominate them. Another alternative that is open to you is to list the deleted images at Wikipedia:Deletion review for further input. Image Deletion

Hello Dianna,

This is the first time I've added an article to Wiki. I noticed you deleted both my images. The owner of the images sent the standard agreement to the email: permissions-en@wikimedia.org on August 31st. Was I supposed to do something else? Should I have him send the email elsewhere?

Thank you for your interest in creating an article for this organisation for wikipedia. There are several problems with your submission. You cannot post copyright material on Wikipedia even if you are the copyright holder, unless special licensing permissions are in place. That is because Wikipedia aims to be freely distributable and copyable by anyone, and all content must have the appropriate documentation in place before that can happen. Please see this policy Wikipedia:Copyrights which explains how it works.

The second problem is notability. I am not sure the organisation is notable enough, as Wikipedia defines it, to have an article. We require multiple write-ups in reliable third party sources such as newpapers, magazines, or online publishers to establish notability. New articles about persons or organisations that are not notable are typically speedily deleted.

The third problem is conflict of interest. Writing an article about your own organisation or that of a client is strongly discouraged, as it is difficult to maintain the required neutral point of view. According to our terms of use, paid editors and people editing on behalf of their employer are required to disclose their conflict of interest by posting a notice on their user page or talk page.

So if you wish to add the copyrighted content to a Wikipedia article, the proper licenses and permissions will have to be in place. Please see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how that would be done. Or, you could write a new article that does not closely paraphrase the material available on line. And you would have to avoid the conflict of interest guideline while doing so. Even then, chances are that the article would be speedily deleted as not notable enough for an article. I noticed you used the very useful "Template:Uw-paid1" at User talk:Ava Collins at ChinaAid. I'm not too concerned about that particular editor, who had earlier pro-actively disclosed her COI on my talk page, but I wonder if there is any guidance on what to do if a likely COI editor either fails to disclose a COI or refuses to do? There is also the possibility of an obvious COI editor without a COI name denying their COI— I'm reluctant to AGF if someone appears to be telling porkies, but that's what we are supposed to do. This is the first time I have used the new template. There's a bit of discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Archive274#Paid editing template series. It's a 4-template series. If they don't disclose that they are a paid editor in a reasonable amount of time, the next template (which gets a little fiercer about it) can be used. Regarding Image Deletion

Good morning. You have deleted an image for lack of copyright permission confirmation. (File:Sable Wyvern, forming the Tilley coat of arms.png). I had submitted the permission confirmation via the appropriate email address - the advice noted that the emails to this address can take some time to process and that a permission submission tag should be added to the image page. I added this tag, yet the image has still been deleted. Can you advise what should have been done differently please? There was a ticket number. File:PC speaker audio sample.ogg

So, half a month ago, my audio sample had been removed because it failed to satisfy the criteria of using copyrighted material which cannot be replaced by free versions. However, I believe solely that my audio sample may better illustrate what PC speaker is than other samples (free) because of its notability and that it is derived from a video game as a notable example. I admit that we need to use free media in places of non-free content, but, sometimes, we need to consider better alternatives because they have something which free content does not give to us. Also, how can I find software in order to make my own PC speaker samples, and is it better to use can-be-replaced non-free content which can better illustrate what subjects are, or is it better to use free content while sacrificing great illustration? The place to start is our non-free content requirements, of which there are ten. They are listed at Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria. Non-free content needs to meet all ten of these requirements. Your sound file failed two requirements. It fails NFCC #1, because it could be replaced by equivalent free content. This means that the sample could be either replaced with a freely licensed audio clip, or could be replaced with prose. In fact the nearby prose already describes how sound was used in computer games of the 1990s. The second requirement it fails is #8, which calls for non-free content to greatly increase our understanding of the topic of the article, which in this case is "PC speakers". Hearing a snippet of the soundtrack from Commander Keen does not greatly increase our understanding of the topic "PC speakers". I volunteered to work on the cites for this article; conversion to sfn. However, it has some formatting I have not come across before; for example: *Churchwell for consensus on becoming ward of state, p. 165; Spoto, pp. 40–49; Banner, pp. 40–62 for information on Goddard. *Churchwell, pp. 204–216, citing Summers and Spoto; Banner, pp. 141–144.

My understanding is that Churchwell's book in an overview of the different bios and presents the different viewpoints of her life and death. How would one cite these in sfn? Or would you have to put them in a separate Notes section? When you have time, have a look and let me know your thoughts. This is good news, as it's an important article that gets 1.5 million visits a year. I would split these into separate citations. for example,

"*Churchwell for consensus on becoming ward of state, p. 165; Spoto, pp. 40–49; Banner, pp. 40–62 for information on Goddard" becomes {sfn|Churchwell|2004|p=165}{Spoto|2001|pp=40–49}{Banner|2012|pp=141–144}.

The second example "*Churchwell, pp. 204–216, citing Summers and Spoto; Banner, pp. 141–144" becomes {sfn|Churchwell|2004|pp=204–216, citing Summers and Spoto}{sfn|Banner|2012|pp=141–144}.

For citation #194, which currently reads "Spoto, p. 453 for a new role, 466–467 for operations, 456–464 for psychiatric hospital stays; Summers, p. 202" you could go with {Spoto|2001|pp=453, 456–467}{sfn|Summers|1985|p=202}. With regard to your recent decline of my CSD request here, can you please explain why F9 does not apply? The sentence you seem to be relying upon in WP:F9 is This does not include images with a credible claim that the owner has released them under a Wikipedia-compatible free license. However, the image is attributed to a 404 page, the author has uploaded other dubious images, the page where I found the image has an explicit copyright notice, File:Nian Li Feast.jpg that they also uploaded was attributed to a page where it cannot be found; I find it difficult to credit the claim of permission. Send it to PUF if you like, but F11 seems nonsensical to me at these images because the listed sources are wrong. BethNaught (talk) 16:01, 13 September 2015 (UTC)

We already talked about this recently, see Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/IncidentArchive897#Mass deletion request / Can anybody speak Hebrew?. If an image has a source and a license, the category to use is F11, except for the most obvious cases such as movie posters, Getty images, stuff copied from news articles, and the like. The policy page at WP:F11 says that "instances of obvious copyright violations where the uploader would have no reasonable expectation of obtaining permission (e.g. major studio movie posters, television images, album covers, logos which are not simple enough to be public domain, etc.) should be speedily deleted per reason F9". Other instances should be tagged as F11, not F9.

There is no way to tell whether the source listed a license or not, because it's irretrievably 404. The other potential source page, http://maoming.gov.cn/(S(zr52rmvarwdhbc45l244co55))/Item.aspx?id=25734, is dated February 26, 2015, which is after the image was uploaded here (on June 17, 2014). There's no rush; the image will be deleted in a week. And there's no reason to take a file to PUF if it fits into a speedy deletion criterion. -- Diannaa (talk) 16:18, 13 September 2015 (UTC)

Hi Crow. I agree there doesn't seem to be a hard and fast rule. I use it for cases where the copy vio is fairly recent or in instances where there's minimal hiding of other people's edits. (Attribution still exists, it's just hidden.) The fact that the article has sources is not a barrier to a PROD nomination. (Perhaps you are thinking of WP:BLP PROD?) My PROD rationale stated "Non-notable restaurant, no coverage other than restaurant reviews. The venue has been closed for at least two years." (I determined this by using the Wayback Machine to look at archived pages of the restaurant's web page and the last version where their website existed was January 2013.) All the citations are restaurant reviews, there's no in-depth coverage that would make the restaurant notable enough for a Wikipedia article in my opinion. Disruption/Vandalism on List of WWE Divas Champions

Hello, there seems to be an issue with the List of WWE Divas Champions Page.

There are constant disruptive editing where users are adding John Cena as the current Divas Champ.

Is there anyway you could protect the page so only registered users can edit it to stop all the vandalism?

@Alpha Monarch: It's not an article, it's a draft. Editing with a conflict of interest is not forbidden; it is strongly discouraged. Creating a promotional article is not a blockable offence, especially when done non-disruptively in draft space. Minhas Craft Brewery Speedy Deletion

Hi Diannaa-
I believe back in June you did a speedy deletion of the page I tried to create for Minhas Craft Brewery. Since then I rewrote the entire page making sure all the copy was written in my own words and all information is properly sourced. I set up the page in my Sandbox and asked Ian.thomson to review the page before I tried to create an official page (I contacted Ian because he welcomed me to Wikipedia and offered help with my speedy deletion). Ian and another Wikipedia, Jim1138, quickly responded with feedback. Since their response, I rewrote the page per their advise and have it laid out in my Sandbox.
Note: I will be sending Ian and Jim a message to advise that I have revised the Minhas Craft Brewery page and that the revised page is available in my Sandbox for review.

Would you please review the new page I have created and advise if it meets Wikipedia's and your standards? As I mentioned before, it is located in my User:Bbazos/sandbox.

Hi Bbazos. The good news is that the brewery likely meets the notability guideline, as you state that it's the 10th largest brewery in the US, and it's no longer written like an advertisement. The bad news is that the Copyvio Detector tool shows a 73.3% overlap with the corporate website page http://minhasbrewery.com/our-history. You can view the copy vio report here. There's also a 41.2% overlap with this page; copy vio report here. Some of this is list-type material that is not copyrightable, but there's definitely some clean-up needed there as well. Get this clean-up done pronto or it will have to be deleted for copyright violations. Less important: Material should be written in sentences and paragraphs, not as a list of facts. Second opinion

You have been or will be alerted of this change on Adolf Hitler, there the change is no big deal, however the same user has been making the identical change across multiple articles, templates etc.[Since August 1st, almost always giving the same edit reason (Replaced "Third Reich" with "Nazi Germany" - this is a clearer and less propaganda-laden term). In most instances again it is no big matter. In some instances however the change made is from 'during the Third Reich' to 'for the duration of World War II', which are not synonomous. I'm even uncertain of the logic of claiming 'Third Reich' to be 'propagandistic'. Is this best just left to each page and template to respond? Is it even a policy decision I didn't know about? I don't have a strong opinion about this either way, though I don't see how "Nazi dictatorship" is more neutral than "Third Reich". Deletion of draft article "Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights"

I immediately saw where I had duplicated material from the Business-Human Rights.org article and have rewritten that section of my draft. I have made other adjustments to my wording of the article that I believe avoid any direct copying of the Voluntary Principles website, other than retaining the one quote from the introduction to the principles - I believe some level of quotation is allowed? The article from ICMM I had not previously seen, so I didn't copy anything from it, but I have made further edits to my draft that may have revised wording that was similar to that article. File permission problem with File:Sydney Maple Leafs Uniform 2012.jpg

I am mystified about why you persisted in tagging an image that I have permission to use from its owner.

Furthermore, even more mystified as I have ALREADY been asked about this image and the supply of OTRS, to which I supplied this following answer on the VERY SAME talk page that you listed this complaint on (it's only the second conversation above yours.

It was in a facebook conversation, the copyright owner is a personal friend of mine, I work for him. I work with him specifically to cover ice hockey in Australia both with Hewitt Sports Network (where this image appears and who it is owned by) and the subsidiary projects that he and I have created as a joint project. There is no point in challenging this. If you wish to further investigate, feel free to contact Myles Harris at Hewitt Sports Network, he is the "Harris" in the business 'Harris Irvine Media' who own Hewitt Sports Network or he is easily accessed via Facebook or I can provide his phone number if you really want that. The point is, there will be no copyright violation concerns around my use of this image - ever, or anywhere. It is also not mandatory for me to provide an email as per instructions on the Commons OTRS page https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:OTRS "In some cases, sending email to OTRS may be required in order to provide evidence that the copyright holder has given permission to publish a file under a free license."

This is not one of those cases, there hasn't been and will be absolutely no copyright violation concern made by the copyright owner and they are first and foremost the most important person in this equation.

The material at Facebook is not adequate, because he does not say what license he is releasing the file under. The way to do it is to have the copyright holder send and email to the OTRS team using the instructions already provided. Sorry, Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously, and these are our requirements. We do it this way so that we can protect the rights of copyright holders by having a permanent record of the permission on file at this end. Please keep in mind that I do not know how the messaging system works, what you can see or what you can't.

This is actually acting as a deterrent for me to continue to contribute images at all because the level of scrutiny is simply uncalled for and is above and beyond reasonable measure. I will only list what frustrates me concerning our conversation but I have had multiple cases of what I can only describe as sheer lunacy in the past, which has only served to frustrate the content owners and myself as a contributor. It just so happens that I wish to remove that background logo anyways as it is distracting from the subject to be honest. Secondly Myles has the rights to use that logo, the fact that his job is to specifically cover that league (that logo is of the Australian Junior Ice Hockey League) as evidenced by the numerous articles on his site specifically covering this league and its teams should be leading people to understand he is authorised to use said logo under his agreement with the league. Information that you wouldn't see, and I don't expect people to know, is that his current role is to provide online media and digital strategy for the owners of this league. What does he do ? issue a formal email for every image he creates on the leagues behalf as part of their digital strategy ? Of course not, there is an agreement between himself and the league to allow usage of the image stocks as he sees fit - 3rd party concern is of no consequence as the direct people involved are satisfied with their agreement.

I can only suggest to consider evolving the form of consent or the process to match the modern methods of communication between people ... let's look at the real context here, images being used with zero monetary gain being sought after to offer the public knowledge about a topic. That is to say, you need to provide a source, and make it clear that it's a quotation, not your own work. Hi Diannaa,

This is with regards to the pages Shashi Mittal and Sumeet Mittal. I would appreciate a note on why these were deleted and what can be done to improve them so they stand up to Wikipedia's stringent editorial policies. We have other articles related to the both of them that are up and running (the TV shows they produce, the production house they own et al. I would be anxious to fix any problems that you see.

Please don't do it that way. Newspapers are copyright, and scanning-uploading is not appropriate. The way to do it is to say what newspaper it was in, on what page, on what day. Provide the title of the article and the author name as well, if you know it. Done; however, all of these files already exist at the Commons, so they qualify for F8 speedy deletion. So I have deleted them. At the Commons, User:Jcb assessed the OTRS ticked today and said "permission not yet confirmed".

Hi Slachutm. Giving you explicit permission to use it is not sufficient. What they have to do is release the image to Wikipedia under license. As sample permission email can be found at WP:consent. Once the email is on its way, please add the template {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page so the image doesn't get deleted before we have a chance to process the email. You don't have to fix anything. The sequence of events was as follows:

• You created a draft in your sandbox, User:Ilonam23/sandbox/Bourne & Hollingsworth Group.
• On Sept 21, you moved the article from your sandbox into article space, Bourne & Hollingsworth Group. This move automatically created a redirect at the former location.
• Since the article was still marked as being a userspace draft, a user moved it from Bourne & Hollingsworth Group to Draft:Bourne & Hollingsworth Group. This action also automatically created a redirect.
• Since we don't allow redirects from article space to drafts, this second redirect was deleted.
• Since the first redirect now pointed at a non-existent page, it was deleted (this is the step that I did).
• Your content is now at Draft:Bourne & Hollingsworth Group. It is marked as a user space draft. The draft was assessed and declined on September 22. Please visit the page Draft:Bourne & Hollingsworth Group to find out why it was declined. -- Diannaa (talk) 22:02, 22 September 2015 (UTC)

Hi there Yarnel. The username issue and the notability of the subject of the article Joseph J. Biloti are two separate concerns. There's no indication in the article that the subject is notable enough, as Wikipedia defines it, for an article at this time. Delteting an image

Hello. I've seen you delete versions of files before so I was wondering if you could delete File:Florida A&M University logo.png so that the file on Commons with the same name can be displayed in the Florida A&M University article? The name here on the English Wikipedia is a redirect to File:Florida A&M University seal.png. About PC speaker...

Does the article even need a sound sample? I am asking it because it was claimed to be a bad representation when my intention was to illustrate how it sounded. Moreover, I did not think that it could be replaced by free content, and I still think that there must be an illustration. If it could be replaced by free content, then, how can I find appropriate software for doing that? Without a proper explanation, I am left, questioning. @Gamingforfun365: It could be replaced by free content because it could be replaced by prose. The type of sound effects found in 1990s video games are already described in the article using prose. Obvious and blatant username violations

Hi. I just wanted to let you know that I often see UAA block denials from you that I don't understand. Here are a few examples of usernames that are blatantly or obviously inappropriate and need to be blocked - regardless of whether or not the user decides they want to rename (which most of the time they don't and simply go away) if it is blatantly advertising, disruptive, etc. While we may all interpret WP:U differently, the general takeaway is the same and somewhat uniform amongst adminstrators. Do you follow up with each user you "discuss" (which actually means just leaving a template on their talk page, from what I can tell) with them to ensure they do not ignore it and continue to edit? This is why we have unblock requests, and specific unblock requests for a username change. While I realize this is an extra step - that is why I only do it for the obvious username violations. Hi Rjd0060. The instructions say to not use blocking as the first course of action. It says "Wait until the user edits"; "We do not want to welcome productive editors with a report at UAA. Nor do we want to waste our time dealing with accounts that may never be used." It's been my experience that usually if the new account does not start editing immediately, they never edit at all. Cases tagged as "wait" and "discuss" are moved to the holding pen, where they are checked within the next couple of weeks. Any who persist get blocked at that point. The vast majority (well over 99 per cent) cease editing when they are made aware of the policy. -- Diannaa (talk) 14:27, 25 September 2015 (UTC)

Hi Banwari. The article was deleted because all the material was copied from the company's website and elsewhere online, and thus was a copyright violation. Copyright material cannot be added to Wikipedia even by the copyright holder, unless special licensing permissions are in place. That is because Wikipedia aims to be freely distributable and copyable by anyone, and all content must have the appropriate documentation in place before that can happen. Martimc123 block evading

Hi, I discovered Martimc123 using another sockpuppet (in addition to LovedGuy) to evade a block given by you on his main account. I confronted him about it here and he basically confirmed it here. F8-G8 deletion question

Hi again, Diannaa. You have more experience with F8 deletions than I do; Stefan2 told me not to delete the talk pages of files I delete as F8 (most files don't have talk pages, or they consist only of a project tag). When I've been prompted to G8 a talk page after an F8 deletion, I've been doing it because there didn't seem to be any reason not to. The G8 instructions are a bit confusing (to me, at least), and imply that we shouldn't even delete file pages. Is Stefan right, and should I leave the talk page of an F8 deletion? Hi Miniapolis. Talk pages for files that exist on the Commons should not be deleted. They are exempt from G8 deletion. This is true even if the only thing present is a wikiproject template. The only exception I make is for Wikiproject United States templates added to image files that have no clear/strong USA connection (hundreds of thousands of this wikiproject template were added to all kinds of things by Kumioko). If the file exists on the Commons under another name, the talk page should be moved, not deleted. If there's an extensive/recent discussion of the file on its talk page here, consider adding a Talk at Wikipedia template to the talk page at the Commons. -- Diannaa (talk) 23:23, 28 September 2015 (UTC)
