AfD nomination of Darth Malak

edit

An editor has nominated Darth Malak, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Darth Malak and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 03:14, 4 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

EVula how do you change the userboxes so it goes to the right side of the page and to the left side of the page in the same position i've managed to do it with the vandal information tool but don't know the rest. →Yun-Yuuzhan 15:22, 4 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

I tweaked User:Yun-Yuuzhan/UserBoxes so that the boxes are right aligned.[1] All it takes is adding a little bit of coding to the table cell.[2] EVula // talk // // 15:27, 4 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Ok, thanks for the help i understand what to do with the userboxes. →Yun-Yuuzhan 16:49, 4 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Duncan Hunter presidential campaign, 2008

edit

I see nothing in policy that says that using quotes is cruft. They are used like an image to add to the article. It looks much more professional and encyclopedic. --STX 19:24, 5 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'm not citing policy, I'm stating my opinion. Personally, I don't feel that it looks more professional; an encyclopedia is different from a magazine, where such callouts are appropriate. I think it gives the arguments undue weight. As for the other item I noted, what are your feelings? EVula // talk // // 19:27, 5 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
The only reason I put that is so that I could have the name of the article in the lead.--STX 19:31, 5 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, I realize that as soon as I hit save. D'oh. :) I might see if I can rewrite the opening paragraphs a bit to get it closer to the beginning of the article, and make it less blatant. EVula // talk // // 19:44, 5 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Alright, thanks for your help.--STX 19:49, 5 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

_NOEDITSECTION_

edit

I put that there because it A) cuts down on vandalism which this article is prone to. B) makes the article look better. and C) is a part of wiki. Is there a policy I should be aware of? I don't believe its important for people to be able to edit peticular sections, just makes it easier for them to vandalize the page. It is just as easy to hit the edit button on top of the page and scroll to the section your trying to edit. Viperix (talk) 23:30, 8 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

B is highly debatable; I'd say that the "edit" links are only a cosmetic issue about 2% of the time. As for C, I'm not entirely sure what you're talking about (but just because it's a wiki feature doesn't mean it should be added to an article; __NOTOC__ is too, but putting it in a mainspace article would be disastrous for navigation, while __NEWSECTIONLINK__ would be confusing for a regular article).
A is correct, but only in the sense that editing individual sections is much easier; by your own admission, someone who wishes to vandalize could just as easily hit "edit" at the top of the page and scroll down to put it somewhere. Editing individual sections is a valuable ability on certain articles (for example, trying fixing a single citation on a lengthy article, such as Earth). Vandalism is a problem we'll always have, but our solutions to vandalism shouldn't come at the expense of regular wiki editing except in extreme cases (and there are much better methods, such as semi-protection). EVula // talk // // 00:19, 9 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Well I guess will just have to disagree. B is highly debatable that is true. C I was trying to say that they put it on Wiki for a reason, and while I don't know the exact reason it does work for the purpose I used it for, and that since it is a part of wiki it is eligible to be used. While a vandal might be able to use the edit at the top of the page in my experience vandals are lazy and won't go to more effort than nessecary. Also most vandals are new and might not know about the edit at the top. Viperix (talk) 01:16, 10 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
For example, All the edits (38 of them) since were either vandalism (someone erased info for no reason), Incorrect (there is a list of movies in the talk pages that show which movies don't have it that people like to add; and taking blue links and making them red), or Bad taste (adding movies without an explanation; and bad grammer). Viperix (talk) 01:43, 10 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
I understand that the individual sections are often used for vandalism, but we shouldn't cut off our nose to spite our face, in a manner of speaking. Just because vandals are lazy doesn't mean everyone else should work all the harder. :)
As for not liking the edit sections, here's a compromise: you can edit User:Viperix/monobook.css to turn off any editsection-class links; that way you don't see them, but they are still there (it doesn't solve the matter of vandals using the links, but there's pretty much nothing that will 100% address vandalism except full protection of an article, which isn't particularly constructive). If you'd like, I can make the edit for you; if you decide you don't like it, you can just remove the code yourself (or otherwise modify it; for example, you could change all those "edit" links to only be 75% the size, etc). EVula // talk // // 04:44, 10 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Well, thats not really helpful so no thanks. I will not put noeditsection back in though. I still disagree, and the edits by 66.230.100.194 show why. Have a nice day Viperix (talk) 22:28, 10 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
The solution to that is either to block the IP or semi-protect the article. EVula // talk // // 23:32, 10 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Doesn't matter now. A couple other admins suddenly decided that the list doesn't belong and deleted it. Odd how that happened Viperix (talk) 03:04, 12 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks

Much obliged for reverting that rather disgusting fanfic that some IP inserted into the Princess Leia article. I'd hoped this kind of vandalism had stopped, but it looks like I was wrong. Only time will tell if there will be another fancruft explosion. *depressed sigh* — Cinemaniac (talkcontribs) 03:35, 9 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, it's pretty bad. That one particular edit was especially horrible... EVula // talk // // 04:42, 9 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
  The RickK Anti-Vandalism Barnstar
While I haven't had much time on Wikipedia lately, I'd like to thank you for assisting me on the Princess Leia Organa article by your steadfast reverting of constant vandalism. I hereby award you The RickK Anti-Vandalism Barnstar! Thanks a lot, EVula, and keep up the good work! :) — Cinemaniac (talkcontribs) 01:54, 10 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Golly gee, you're gonna make me blush. :) Thanks! It's almost a crime to accept a barnstar for something I enjoy doing so much, but I'm not so snobby as to turn it down. ;) EVula // talk // // 04:47, 10 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Skimming the article's history reveals that there has been a lot of vandalism the past few days concerning—yep, you guessed it!—Leia's "Metal Bikini" and the Return of the Jedi section. It's the same kind of fancruft as before, only this time even worse in its descriptions.  :( — Cinemaniac (talkcontribs) 03:08, 12 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Now that I finally have the chance to sit down, I've just noticed that, due to heavy vandalism from IPs, that Princess Leia's article has been put on semi-protection for 1 fully day. I'd really hoped that creating a valid, researched, unbiased section for Leia's Bikini would not have generated such fancruft, but it looks like I was wrong. D'you think we should just zap that section out of the article? — Cinemaniac (talkcontribs) 19:47, 13 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Unfortunately, the vandalism has been an issue far longer than that one section has existed, so I don't think removing it outright would solve anything. Besides, I think it's a good addition to the article; that bikini is a significant enough thing to warrant a section, just like her bun hair style. EVula // talk // // 19:58, 13 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, I guess I was just getting worried that I might have been unwittingly feeding the trolls. That troll—who's been adding the Leiabikini image to Princess Leia, Carrie Fisher, Jabba the Hutt, Han Solo, Princess Leia's Theme, and Return of the Jedi—was a sock puppet who has finally been blocked. Thanks for the support. — Cinemaniac (talkcontribs) 02:57, 14 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Swjvs3.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Swjvs3.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 08:21, 15 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

We may need full protection on this one; it seems anyone who's ever created an account is coming out of the woodworks to add his death to the article in some shape or fashion (mostly a lot of "the late Heath Ledger").  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 05:20, 23 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

- Tinucherian (talk) 10:45, 25 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

I think it's supposed to be a redirect, and it would leave dead links when editors add that category to articles mistakenly. Ideally, redirects are supposed to have all pages pointing to them updated to reflect the correct link, though that's a large task, and this just happens to be his category pet peeve, I imagine. Congratulations!

edit

You've made my quote page, which is definitely one of the most coveted [citation needed] quote pages around. A talkpage post that you've made recently made me laugh hysterically in its unusual level of wittiness, dryness, sarcasm, illustration, delivery, timing, and/or good ol' fashion lightheartedness. Thanks for brightening up the place! You can view your quote, in all its glory, preserved for history, here. Cheers, Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 15:39, 27 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia local wiki (wikimetro.org) feedback request

edit

I am a Wiki developer, have spent the past 12 months developing wikimetro.org in asp.net as a local wiki and would like to ask for (expert) feedback. www.wikimetro.org a local wiki 04:15, 29 February 2008 (UTC) Jeff Brauer

Sorry for any inconvenience caused Thanks and Regards, Jeff

My apologies...

edit

...but I'm not sure you read my reason for reporting User:70.241.201.64. There is a user, User:Bjbarnett2, who has been making exactly these same edits to Public Broadcasting Service and was blocked for it. Now, suddenly, up pops our IP user, making exactly the same edit the user was blocked for. Would you please reconsider? If you look at the article history, you'll see he's very persistent, and since blocks are preventative, I'm thinking this would be a good one. Thanks...Gladys J Cortez 20:36, 3 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

You have an eerily similar resemblance to the medic on Team Fortress 2. Then again, you are a 'crat on the Half-Life Wikia...--TBC!?! 07:35, 7 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Still unavailable?

edit

You responded to other comments, but not to any of mine. One of the users have gone out of control with redirects. I'd like to know what would be the best to put these nonsensical redirects for deletion:

Thoughts? I tried asking someone else for directions, but the person decided to be uncivil in the end. Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 05:29, 8 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Adopter or adoptee?

edit

EVula, I don't know if I'm closer to being an adopter or adoptee--I think I'm somewhere in between. I would like to help new users, but don't know if I'm yet experienced enough to do so adequately. I would like to receive help from an experienced editor, but don't want to take away a less-experienced editor's chance at receiving help. In any case, if you aren't too busy, I could use your help and suggestions! (By the way, I find it amusing that while your first edit was about Betty Page, it was a spelling correction relating to something showing her brains!)
