If you haven't gotten a response, you may wish to ask someone in Category:User template coder. I can recommend User:CBDunkerson. Λυδαcιτγ 02:28, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

editAs the closer of P-P-P-Powerbook's second nomination for deletion, I thought you might be interested in the deletion review of the fourth nomination, wherein the no consensus result was singlehandedly overturned to delete by another user the next day. --Czj 08:30, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

Howdy
editHi Firsfron. I saw that you're editing and figured I'd say hi. How goes? Good job being #269 by # of edits. I saw myself in the 500s and was amazed--I thought there'd be way more people with more edits than me. Hope you had a good Thanksgiving! --Fang Aili talk 17:34, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
- Hey Fang Aili! All goes well; just reverting vandalism to Stegosaurus; whenever we get a really nice, featured dinosaur article on the main page, it gets completely vandalised by IPs. :( Yes, I was surprised I was so high on the list. Congrats on #545, that's really cool, too! :) My Thanksgiving was really good; ate with the family, and then a few hours later, ate with some friends. So I was really stuffed! What's new over in your neck of the woods? Probably heavy snow and...? How was your Turkey Day? Firsfron of Ronchester 17:47, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
- Good luck with the Dunav project! You know, even though Wikipedia has 1.5 million articles, there are big gaps in a lot of areas; it's always surprising to find something missing. I don't pretend to know anything about folk dance, but it doesn't surprise me. People are busy creating articles about [insert pop star]'s latest concert or whatever. So I applaud your efforts. No snow in the UP in late November? Gotta be global warming... Firsfron of Ronchester 18:17, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
你好﹗Thank you for also watching out at the Stegosaurus article - I can't finish counting the number of times I clicked on the featured article, only to see a bunch of nonsensical gibberish... Plus sometimes the bots revert vandalism to a different version of vandalism instead. –- kungming·2 (Talk) 19:19, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

We Are Smarter Than Me
editI wrote a stub on We Are Smarter Than Me after hearing it described on NPR. If Copy-vio is not an issue, might it make sense to undelete the deleted revisions so those viewing them in the history could consider using some of the language, or perhaps finding leads for research directed at fleshing out the stub?

Hi Erica, I left this message on WikiProject Dance's talkpage too, but I thought I might drop you a line seeing as you're active. I was wondering whether you guys needed help with cheering up the portal, it looks a little unloved lately! Rfrisbie has been doing some great things over at Dogs, Cats, Education and Psychology, and has been helping me improve Chemistry, and I'm starting to get hopelessly addicted to portals. Let me know if Portal:Dance will be my next fix :) Cheers, riana_dzasta 08:33, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
- Eeek, sorry, didn't notice your post on Rfrisbie's talk page. I'll keep the discussion there. Cheers, riana_dzasta 15:32, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
- That's OK! Since you're about, I may as well ask you now - does the portal have more of a classical Western focus, and do you want to keep it that way? riana_dzasta 15:42, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
Hi, Fang Aili. I'm about out of layout ideas for the portal. After a little more content gets added to the rotated selections, I think it has a real good shot at making featured portal status. When it's ready, I nominate you to take the lead on that. Please let me know if I can be of any other assistance. :-) Rfrisbietalk 20:56, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
Taking you up on your offer
editYou were the user who first welcomed me (I was Qball6 then) to WP way back when - thanks for that, by the way. I know it was a template message, but you said I could ask you questions , and, six months later, I am taking you up on that offer :).
I ran across this article -> Lumas and figured that it was not an appropriate subject for an article (maybe a mention on the band page, at best). I vacillated between a speedy delete tag and a prod tag before, perhaps wrongly, settling on a prod tag. The prod was not acted on within 5 days, so an anon removed the tag saying the 5 days had elapsed. I think that is innappropriate by the anon, but I am not certain what the correct next step is. My inclination is to revert the removal of the prod tag. However, for my wikieducation, I would like to ask your thoughts as to whether: (1) you agree that the article should be deleted; (2) I should have used a speedy template; and (3) the best move at this point is to revert the deletion of the prod. Your thoughts greatly appreciated. -Kubigula (ave) 15:06, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

Disco article
editI noticed that you added Disco to WikiProject Dance. I took a look at the article, and it appears to be about the music, not the dance. There are a few music articles that discuss the corresponding dance as well, but most major dance styles get a separate article. In particular, the disco article is already too big, so I doubt that it has room to add information about the dance. Maybe we can start a separate article for that. What do you think?
By the way, thanks for all that you're doing for the Dance WikiProject. It hasn't been very active for a while, and I'm glad to see some more work being done to it. —Cswrye 15:48, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
- I did some looking around, and I think that the hustle is the dance that accompanies disco music, which would essentially make it the same as disco dancing. I'm not exactly an expert on disco though. —Cswrye 20:48, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

singing bowl post
editThanks for your message. I am once again changing the singing bowl post. The version you keep reverting to is something that recently appeared and is very innacurate and misleading. I'm replacing the text with text that was collaborated on Wikipedia several months ago by 3 of the world's leading experts on the topic. This text has been on wikipedia for several months and is reliable and factual.
The post you continually revert back to is something new - written by some person in Australia that really doesn't know what they are talking about. His text is completely false - the lines are not water lines, the bowls don't spout water, they are not used for trance induction, etc. His text changes several reliable facts from the long standing versino and adds many misleading points of false information.
I appreciate you are making a great contribution to Wikipedia. However, in this case, you are replacing an expert posting with the ramblings of a questionable mind. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.2.161.89 (talk • contribs)

Help Moving Article
editI need help moving the article Virtual Console (Wii) to the title Virtual Console, because Virtual console is the Linux thing. There's already a disambiguation link at Virtual Console (Wii), but I can't move it to Virtual Console because its a redirect to Virtual console. And if I cut and paste, I'll screw up Virtual Console (Wii)'s edit history. Help.TheListUpdater 17:14, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
AWB and talk page tagging
editI saw that you're using AWB to tag pages for wikiprojects--I want to do that too, but I can't seem to get AWB to work right. It skips any redlinked talk page (which eliminates most of the tagging). I have the "skip non-existing pages" box unchecked, so.. I don't know what else there is to do. Grr. --Fang Aili talk 15:34, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
- Hi Fang Aili! Well, I don't know if this will help, but here is what I do:
- 1. I start by making a list in AWB. For example, I've been tagging bird pages, so I started by creating a list in AWB: "Links on page", then "List of North American birds". Then I save that list "Save" as a text file. AWB automatically saves the text file with the list in wikiformat!
- 2. I edit the txt file, using the "replace" function to replace all instances of "# [[" with "# [[talk:", which gives me a list of just talk pages. I save that list onto one of my subpages, such as user:Firsfron/birds. I then have a list of purely talk pages to work off of.
- 3. I clear out the old list on AWB, and then "Links on page" user:Firsfron/birds. I now have an AWB list of just talk pages.
- 4. As you already know, on the first tab, uncheck "skip non-existing talk pages".
- 5. Also on the first tab, I set "skip if contains:" "birdtalk" (without quotes), so that it will skip pages which already have the talk template (there is more than one bird talk template, but they both contain the word "birdtalk", so this will catch both templates).
- 6. On the second tab, I set the page to "Prepend", with the desired tag, and uncheck the "automatically fix" thing or whatever it is, as I'm not there to clean up, just to tag.
- 7. On the last tab, I use an edit summary such as "Tagging for Wikipedia:WikiProject Birds", and on the bar on the top of AWB, I check "mark all edits as minor". Then I hit "start the process"!
- 8. I try to watch out for pages where both the talk page and the article page don't exist. This only happens when there are red items on the original list, so if your list is all blue, you don't have to worry about it. If neither the talk page nor the article page exist, you will see them show up red briefly when the page is loading, and can hit "ignore". Also, beware of tagging pages that don't have anything to do with the subject. A little common sense is all that's needed here, obviously.
- This is the process I use, and I really like it. I can tag a lot of pages very quickly and easily. If this doesn't work for you, I would be very surprised. You are using the latest AWB, yes? Let me know if you still aren't getting it to work, and I'll see what else might be wrong. Best wishes, Firsfron of Ronchester 17:54, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
Singing bowls
editB9 hummingbird hovering 06:07, 3 December 2006 (UTC) re: Singing bowls... conduct a current literature review in peer review literature before you make rash judgements. Your understanding of "trance" is limited and your assertions false. Read the literature. I appreciate your views on the trance induction and I will ensure in the future that when i reintroduce the information about trance induction that it is water tight. Coaching?
editHi Erica...we've talked on a number of issues in the past, and I've seen you quite involved in pre-admin coaching. Now that I'm past 6K edits, I'm looking towards eventual adminship, and put my name on the coaching application list. If you get an opening, I would appreciate you considering me. Thanks! Akradecki 00:28, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the opportunity to throw questions at you, so I'll start with this: it seems to me that one of the most critical aspect of being an admin is to keep calm when others are upset and ranting. At various times in the past, I've had to deal with folks mad about one thing or another, and I've tried to keep a balanced head, avoid personal attacks, and focus on policy. If/when I become an admin, I would expect others, both admins and editors, to hold me accountable for the tone I took in my responses, even when provoked. As an exercise in this, if you have time, would you mind looking at my response to an item on my talk page with the header "WTF?"? I had tagged a new article on a store that appeared to be unsourced spam with a CSD tag. The guy who wrote it, who happens to be an admin, became deeply offended, and his response, in my opinion, borders on a personal attack. I really don't care about that aspect of it, I have thick skin. What I have tried to focus on is the policy itself, and addressing behavior befitting an admin. My question to you, then, is (and please be blunt with me), have I effectively accomplished this, have I justified my actions on policy alone, and have I addressed a legitimate behavior issue without being personal about it? Thanks for your input! Akradecki 19:34, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
Hi Erica, Tuas Bus Terminal is a place that I don't know of. I only know that is a bus terminal in Singapore and it serves the people who work in the industrial estate nearby. There's nothing else about this bus terminal really. I would love to add some information about the place. I've never been to the bus terminal before, as it's in a very remote area. As far as I know, is just a small bus terminal that is just a small terminus for buses. It's nothing more than a rest stop and a bus park. I can't picture this place out. It's too small and non-notable a place to cover this bus terminal. Terence Ong 05:17, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

Tapan
editHi, Fang Aili! I'm glad you like my additions to the tapan page. Unfortunately, most of it came from a section about tapan which was on the davul page (and so was already not sourced). I felt it was incorrectly placed and needed to be on the specific ethnic instrument page for tapan, which already existed, though it had only a brief bit on it.
I did rewrite the material, as it had been submitted by a non-native English speaker (by IP address, no user profile available). I can corroborate the information on the page because I am a drummer and study different ethnic drums, but I don't have any sources for it other than one LP with a photo and a few MP3s. If it makes any difference, a college professor introduced this music to me years ago and told me the general method of playing.
Unfortunately, there is not a great deal of information available about this interesting drum and its associated music. I'll continue to work on it in the future to try to fill in the gaps, but for now, I guess it's going to just be a starting point. Thanks! Swellbow 21:35, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

- Hi Fang, since this is related to the current header I won't start a new one. I recently added my name to the project talkpage because I wasn't sure the mainpage was active now or not. I am approaching 5,000 edits and I've participated in most aspects of WP from writing small articles and cooperating in larger projects, to RC Patrol and some participation at WP:ANI. Since I got a 3RR block in November (which has a fairly innocous explanation) I won't actually be eligible for an RfA for awhile, but I'm still very interested in working with a coach to further my education. Let me know if I need to list myself on the mainpage instead, but otherwise I'll patiently await my turn for an admin. Thanks, Doc Tropics 20:09, 9 December 2006 (UTC).

In closing the nomination, Essjay remarked that it was one of the better discussed RfAs seen recently and I would like to thank you and all others who chose to vote for making it as such. Admin coaching
editHi there Fang, thanks for your message. I'm very interested in coaching, but as to whether or not I would use it for applying for 'adminship' again is doubtful at the moment. I recently self nominated for an RFA as I believed it would aid my work looking after the WikiProject on user warnings. I withdrew my nomination after a couple of opposes came in and my thoughts can be seen on my talk page. Having sat back and thought about it, I didn't remove my name from the coaching as I think that this can aid me in gaining a greater understanding in policy and practice, and does not necessarily require someone to have the mop n bucket as the end goal. So if you can find someone who'd be interested in coaching me then yes please. Thanks and regards Khukri (talk . contribs) 18:48, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

editHi, thanks for responding. And I apologize if there is a better way to communicate back to you. I am still trying to learn my way around this system.
Yes, I would be more than happy to start an article on Cause Marketing. I am passionate about the topic, and I'm pretty sure I can come up with something better than what you described was happening. It is my understanding with wikis, that if that happens again in the future, malicious changes can be deleted and an article reverted back to its "pre-malicious" state?
Thanks,

editI am just starting my job, Jan. 8th, and I have to moving from Boston, MA to Fairfax, VA so in about a weeks time, I will no longer be online until everything is hooked up in Virginia. So... I would still love the coaching to become a Sysop, but times are really wacky right now. Shane (talk/contrib) 07:25, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

editHey Fang,
Thank you for taking this on - it looks like it's going in a in a good direction! I appreciate you working to get it running itself, that is definitly a good goal. Sorry for taking a bit to get back to you, but I'm glad to see how Admin Coaching is looking. Thanks! -- Natalya 13:24, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

David Nevitt
editOkie dokes, I will cease the production of David Maurice James Nevitt III due to the objection, however, he is a local legend with many urban myths, forgive the pun, flying around, so I believed he deserved a mention on the website. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Greg1999 (talk • contribs) 22:17, 14 December 2006 (UTC).
Re. Being an admin coach?
editThank you for contacting me but unfortunately I will have to politely decline. I have a personal objection to this user's username, as I stated on his editor review (and which the user did not comment about). In fact, I believe that the username might even go at odds with WP:USERNAME, depending on interpretation of the policy regarding usernames referring Wikipedia terms. Additionally, this user currently has a very low flux of contributions to Wikipedia, this situation would have to change before I could consider coaching. Once again thank you for contacting me, feel free to suggest further users. Best regards.--Húsönd 21:04, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
- Hi again. after checking the requests for current activity it seems that the topmost users that I would be willing to coach are #11 Ansell and #15 CJ King, although the latter has very little experience in the areas where I intervene the most (countervandalism, XfD, protection). #19 Canadian-Bacon, #37 Anthony cfc and #38 Kungming2 I could coach as well if they actually need coaching, I've witnessed their good work many times. Also #18 Dfrg.msc, I know him quite well and would be totally available to help him on anything he might need. Regards.--Húsönd 21:51, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
- Hi, In response to your message on my talk page, I would like to have a coach to give me some pointers. Feel free to assign someone to me. Ansell 08:24, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

thank you for reverting vandal
editthank you for reverting the vandal on Estimates_of_number_of_deaths_in_connection_with_expulsion_of_Germans_after_WWII. I was just about to report this disruptive user to be blocked for personally attacking me but I see that you have admin powers and so am going to ask you personally to block him. He has repeatedly made personal attacks upon me, calling me a Nazi as well as some other hurtful things, mostly on usertalkpages and Talk:Recovered Territories I have warned him and it seems it just escelates his attacks, please do something.
thanks--Jadger 15:58, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
- thank you, it can wait a litte while, I had also failed to mention that this is the same person as user:Serafin, who by the looks of his comments and those of a fellow user who has dealt with him in the past, has been banned from the German wikipedia for being disruptive and attacking other users.
- No Problem, it is not like he can undo his personal attacks, not to mention he has now violated the 3RR. Once he is blocked like he has been on the German wikipedia, then people can get to business fixing his vandalism without worrying about it getting reverted two minutes later.
- yes I am, it's not just there though as you would have seen probably by my usertalkpage, he is now insulting me in Polish also. I posted a request here by accident instead of on WP:PAIN but someone said they would look into it, but not til later. He has also broken the 3RR, I do not think I have broken it because one is allowed to revert more than 3 times if it is vandalism, which much of the time it was. I have stopped reverting it though because I may be blamed for breaking 3RR.
Please, check the articles notability before you revert the redirect.I already have explained to User:Quarl why I had originally reverted the redirects here. A quick Google may be sufficient to give you an overview of the set of articles' notability and propriety. If we let everyone start a horde of empty entries without put any material in it, and if we keep protecting such trivial entries without a help of significant development, then WP could turn into an endless encyclopedia of tidbits, and name lists. Thanks for your concern though. - Aditya Kabir 02:53, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
