Disputed non-free use rationale for File:A.S.D. ValgobbiaZanano logo.webp

Thank you for uploading File:A.S.D. ValgobbiaZanano logo.webp. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Also:

This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:00, 25 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

New Page Review newsletter December 2019

Reviewer of the Year

This year's Reviewer of the Year is Rosguill. Having gotten the reviewer PERM in August 2018, they have been a regular reviewer of articles and redirects, been an active participant in the NPP community, and has been the driving force for the emerging NPP Source Guide that will help reviewers better evaluate sourcing and notability in many countries for which it has historically been difficult.

Special commendation again goes to Onel5969 who ends the year as one of our most prolific reviewers for the second consecutive year. Thanks also to Boleyn and JTtheOG who have been in the top 5 for the last two years as well.

Several newer editors have done a lot of work with CAPTAIN MEDUSA and DannyS712 (who has also written bots which have patrolled thousands of redirects) being new reviewers since this time last year.

Thanks to them and to everyone reading this who has participated in New Page Patrol this year.

Redirect autopatrol

A recent Request for Comment on creating a new redirect autopatrol pseduo-permission was closed early. New Page Reviewers are now able to nominate editors who have an established track record creating uncontroversial redirects. At the individual discretion of any administrator or after 24 hours and a consensus of at least 3 New Page Reviewers an editor may be added to a list of users whose redirects will be patrolled automatically by DannyS712 bot III.

Source Guide Discussion

Set to launch early in the new year is our first New Page Patrol Source Guide discussion. These discussions are designed to solicit input on sources in places and topic areas that might otherwise be harder for reviewers to evaluate. The hope is that this will allow us to improve the accuracy of our patrols for articles using these sources (and/or give us places to perform a WP:BEFORE prior to nominating for deletion). Please watch the New Page Patrol talk page for more information.

This month's refresher course

While New Page Reviewers are an experienced set of editors, we all benefit from an occasional review. This month consider refreshing yourself on Wikipedia:Notability (geographic features). Also consider how we can take the time for quality in this area. For instance, sources to verify human settlements, which are presumed notable, can often be found in seconds. This lets us avoid the (ugly) 'Needs more refs' tag.

New Page Reviewer newsletter February 2020

Hello Matthew hk,

Source Guide Discussion

The first NPP source guide discussion is now underway. It covers a wide range of sources in Ghana with the goal of providing more guidance to reviewers about sources they might see when reviewing pages. Hopefully, new page reviewers will join others interested in reliable sources and those with expertise in these sources to make the discussion a success.

Redirects

New to NPP? Looking to try something a little different? Consider patrolling some redirects. Redirects are relatively easy to review, can be found easily through the New Pages Feed. You can find more information about how to patrol redirects at WP:RPATROL.

Discussions and Resources
Refresher

Geographic regions, areas and places generally do not need general notability guideline type sourcing. When evaluating whether an article meets this notability guideline please also consider whether it might actually be a form of WP:SPAM for a development project (e.g. PR for a large luxury residential development) and not actually covered by the guideline.

Ng Teng Fong

Hi Matthew. Just a note that I've restored the original way Ng Teng Fong's name is rendered on his article (i.e. Ng Teng Fong rather than the HK style Ng Teng-fong). This is how most people and organisations - including the namesake hospital - refer to him. For that reason I'd suggest not changing it again, please. Thank you. Comickepick (talk) 03:14, 19 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Comickepick: It is not HK style, it rather Wade–Giles or common non-pinyin methods to treat given names. I think there is wiki naming convention guideline for this issue. Matthew hk (talk) 09:32, 19 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Matthew hk: OK, understand it's not HK style, Nonetheless, please refer to the excerpt below is from Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Chinese):

The titles of Chinese entries should follow current academic conventions, which generally means Hanyu Pinyin without tone marks. Pinyin is spaced according to words, not characters; the correct form of the title is Zizhi Tongjian, not "Zi Zhi Tong Jian" or "ZiZhi TongJian". Exceptions include:

- When there is a clearly more popular form in English (such as Yangtze River)
- When the subject uses a non-pinyin form of their name that is adopted by secondary sources.
...
Chinese names should be written in Hanyu Pinyin unless there is a more common romanization used in English (for example, Chiang Kai-shek, Sun Yat-sen) or when the subject of the article is likely to prefer a non-pinyin romanization as is often the case with people from Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and older overseas Chinese communities (for example, Lee Kuan Yew, Lee Teng-hui, Tung Chee-hwa).
What I understand is that since Ng Teng Fong is the more popular form in Singapore, and his name is a non-pinyin form adopted by secondary sources (see this and this), the original rendering should be used. Comickepick (talk) 11:02, 19 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

"Rafael Pereira da Silva (footbaler born 1980)" listed at Redirects for discussion

An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect Rafael Pereira da Silva (footbaler born 1980). Since you had some involvement with the Rafael Pereira da Silva (footbaler born 1980) redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion if you wish to do so. 1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk) 18:02, 4 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Draft:Kevin Reeves (football coach)

Hey do you mind letting me know why you rejected this draft? I was actually about to approve it as it looks like the subject has coached a fully professional league per WP:FPL. Just need to know what you saw that I didn't in case the PC makes a fuss at the help desk. Cheers Sulfurboy (talk) 00:37, 18 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

NSPORT guideline stated "This guideline is used to help evaluate whether or not a sports person or sports league/organization (amateur or professional) is likely to meet the general notability guideline, ". And the user not likely to dig out other content for the person. Either, the manager is a one-club coach, or it is false negative due to poor editing. Matthew hk (talk) 00:43, 18 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
Right, just a note though that typically an article that passes an SSG is always accepted out AfC and certainly not rejected. This is due to the AfC standard only being "likely to pass an AfD" and since an SSG pass is almost always kept in an AfD, then it passes the AfC standard. <--- That's the policy response to your statement.
My personal response is I could not care less and get super tired of these drab, stub article that will go nowhere. So you get a high five and a thumbs down? Just be prepared to be pinged if the page creator makes a fuss :D. Cheers Sulfurboy (talk) 01:04, 18 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Pentahotels

Thanks so much for your help in tidying up and updating this article. The Bloomberg article was the best source I could find for the renaming in the 1990s, but it didn't go into the level of detail I had hoped for. It's tough to find sources from the early 90s, not many press releases, etc, are archived online. Penta was sold to New World, which then moved all the Penta Hotels into their Renaissance brand and renamed them all Renaissance Hotels. I knew someone who worked there at the time, and I remember the transition. I still have brochures from right before they were all renamed, and then new brochures from right after they were all renamed. The only exceptions were the Vienna Penta, and also, I believe, the Moscow Olympic Penta. The Vienna property kept the Penta name for a couple of years alongside the Renaissance name, as the Vienna Penta Renaissance Hotel, because there was already a Renaissance Wien Hotel. If I remember right, the Moscow property was also branded as a "Penta Renaissance Hotel" within Renaissance for a while. New World did something similar with all the Stouffer Hotels they bought, they were called Stouffer Renaissance Hotels for three years within Renaissance, before the Stouffer branding was completely retired. Anyway, appreciate your help! Jamesluckard (talk) 02:35, 28 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

I didn't find any mention of Penta in sec filing of Renaissance Hotel Group. Also Bloomberg article is a bad citation, as it only mentioned Last June, it consolidated its hotel management businesses into the Renaissance Hotel Group and floated a 33% stake on the New York Stock Exchange for $172 million., which it implies New World's brands, New World, Ramada, Stouffer, Renaissance became part of the listed company Renaissance Hotel Group (or hotel management /brand has changed to Renaissance , but CTF/New World can retain some brand and hotel building structure ownership). Since New World restarted New World brand in 2007 and restarted Penta in the same year (but according to citation CTF (parent company of New World Development) sold (not bought) the brand to New World China Land, subsidiary of New World Development ), which also implies something else (did the CTF bought back the brand, or retaining the brand at the first place?). As it does not have a clear citation on the fate of the brand in the 1990s, the best scenario to me is not mention Penta in Renaissance at all. Matthew hk (talk) 03:23, 28 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
Excellent work tracking down those old New World annual reports, which detailed exactly when the Penta Hotels transitioned to Renaissance in 1993-1994. Well done! Jamesluckard (talk) 21:45, 28 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Articles for Creation: List of reviewers by subject notice

Hi Matthew hk, you are receiving this notice because you are listed as an active Articles for Creation reviewer.

Recently a list of reviewers by area of expertise was created. This notice is being sent out to alert you to the existence of that list, and to encourage you to add your name to it. If you or other reviewers come across articles in the queue where an acceptance/decline hinges on specialist knowledge, this list should serve to facilitate contact with a fellow reviewer.

To end on a positive note, the backlog has dropped below 1,500, so thanks for all of the hard work some of you have been putting into the AfC process!

Sent to all Articles for Creation reviewers as a one-time notice. To opt-out of all massmessage mailings, you may add Category:Wikipedians who opt out of message delivery to your user talk page. Regards, Sam-2727 (talk)
