Unblocked

Your request to be unblocked has been granted for the following reason(s):

Autoblock of 72.1.206.7 lifted or expired.

Request handled by: HighInBC (Need help? Ask me) 15:48, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

Specifically because I am at a school, and I personally would NEVER vandalise wikipedia, other idiots in this school have a good time doing it though. Is there any way that the block could be circumvented if I logged in as myself? This would ensure that others in this school would not vandalise. My friend and I sit here in class, and when there's nothing to do we either work on Wikipedia or just browse pages. It is quite disheartening when we want to correct something and we are unable to do so! Any help would be appreciated.

I am switching the block to a softblock, you should be able to log in. But still not edit anonymously. Let me know here if it does not work. HighInBC (Need help? Ask me) 15:48, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

Hello

Hello there. Sorry it's taken me a stupidly long time to reply to your message (here) but i've been away from the internet over christmas and new year. I'm glad to be of help with that deletion thing above. I'm afraid I don't know that much about bose-einstein condensates - I did a bit of that last year, but the lecturer was so boring I think I was asleep for most of the lectures. I'm sure it's an injustice to the subject, which looks pretty cool from the wikipedia article. As for me, I get excited about minkowski space and how everything reduces to four-vectors, like Maxwell's equations. It's all got a simplicity which borders on insanity. --h2g2bob 01:46, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

Help

{{helpme}} I want to start an article on Tim Horton's Roll Up The Rim contest, but I don't know whether to include it under Timmy's article or start a new one. When an organization has a contest, does it get it's own page?

As a Canadian who loves Timmy Ho's... I would say put it in the TimHo article for now. If enough material gets added over the next while, split it off into a separate article. But for now I think it's fine just as a section of the main. Also, pls bring me an XXL double-double and a sour cream glazed. Thanks. (and for future reference, new sections should go at the bottom of the talkpage). //roux   06:54, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

Help request

{{helpme}} Hey, I've been working on AirCombat/VANDU and I'm trying to find someone to look it over: is there a place on wiki where I can post it and have someone look it over for suggestions?

It sounds like you want to request a peer review. See that page for instructions etc. Good luck!  Chzz  ►  17:03, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
EDIT fixed link, sorry for typo earlier  Chzz  ►  18:32, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

Welcome

Hi, MrAureliusR. Welcome to Wikipedia! I noticed you've just joined, and wanted to give you a few tips to get you started. If you have any questions, please talk to us. The tips below should help you to get started. Best of luck!  Chzz  ►  17:05, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

ようこそ
  • You don't need to read anything - anybody can edit; just go to an article and edit it. Be Bold, but please don't put silly stuff in - it will be removed very quickly, and will annoy people.
  • Ask for help. Talk to us live, or edit this page, put {{helpme}} and describe what help you need. Someone will reply very quickly - usually within a few minutes.
  • Edit existing articles, before you make your own. Look at some subjects that you know about, and see if you can make them a bit better. For example, Wikipedia:Cleanup#2009.
  • When you're ready, read about Your first article. It should be about something well-known, and it will need references.

Good luck with editing; please drop me a line some time on my own talk page.

There's lots of information below. Once again, welcome to the fantastic world of Wikipedia!

I've been working on User:AirCombat/VANDU and I scanned the pamphlet that they distribute -- if I upload it to wikipedia (they've released it into the public domain) can I use it as a source?

You don't have to upload it in order to cite it. I've referenced pamphlets before. You can use the {{cite book}} template for that. Just give as much info as possible. If you have any further questions, feel free to contact me. Killiondude (talk) 22:00, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute to the encyclopedia, but when you add content (particularly if you change facts and figures), as you have to the article Cannabis legalization in Canada, please cite a reliable source for the content you're adding or changing. This helps maintain our policy of verifiability. Take a look at Wikipedia:Citing sources for information about how to cite sources and the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. {{helpme}} Hey -- I was just entering feedback for the beta, and it asked if I had ever used the 'expandable toolbar' to make edits... what the heck are they talking about?

When editing a page in Beta, above the edit window is a toolbar with extra options to use. If you click on "Advanced", "Special characters", or "Help", it will expand and show more options and information. That is what the feedback question is asking about. Please let me know if there are any more questions. Thanks! --Mysdaao talk 15:41, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

Help re: Bias

{{helpme}} I want to work on the Canadian Students for Sensible Drug Policy's page -- but I am on their advisory board. Is there a way I can work on it without bias? I would just like to clean up the article and make sure it is factually correct. However I don't want it to be one-sided, because as with all lobby groups, especially in drug policy, there is always a lot of contention and it would be easy for someone to assume I am biased. AC (talk) 01:31, 16 August 2010 (UTC)

Well, it's in pretty bad shape now, so almost anything would be an improvement. Maybe read this page, for advice. Basically, be upfront in disclosing your COI, stay neutral and balanced as best you can, and feel free to ask for guidance when you're not sure. fetch·comms 01:39, 16 August 2010 (UTC)
Per the guidelines linked, it would be best if you suggest edits on the articles talk page, instead of actually making the edits yourself. If you add {{editrequest}} too, that will alert others to check over your suggestion.  Chzz  ►  01:44, 16 August 2010 (UTC)

Perfect, thanks a lot guys! AC (talk) 01:45, 16 August 2010 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:JetsOverhead Lean.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:JetsOverhead Lean.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk 04:23, 27 August 2010 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Super discount.png

A tag has been placed on File:Super discount.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Eeekster (talk) 02:00, 12 October 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, I wasn't sure. Should I just include a link to the Google Earth picture or something? AC (talk) 02:05, 12 October 2010 (UTC)
You could do that; better yet, put up a notice on Wikipedia:WikiProject California/San Francisco Bay Area task force asking for someone to snap a free photo at that location. Magog the Ogre (talk) 03:43, 12 October 2010 (UTC)

Did You Know Nomination

{{helpme}} Hey there, I nominated the article I created, Breeding Ground, but I only just added an image for the nomination... I'm just wondering how the process works. I nominated it once yesterday but nobody reviewed it, I think because there wasn't an image. And I tried to fix the rollover text on the image but I can't get it to work. Some help would be much appreciated!! AC (talk) 23:26, 24 January 2011 (UTC)

There's no problem. You just need to be patient. Lots of DYKs have no image and that has nothing to do with whether it is reviewed, which should happen over the next few days. You might notice that the nomination directly below yours (Renewable energy in Russia) happens also to have not been reviewed yet. However, I do think you should move your nomination to the correct place. You posted under "articles created or expanded on January 23, 2011", but Breeding Ground was created by you on January 24, 2011. All of our processes here are governed by Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) so you may have created the article by your calendar on January 23, but you would go by this instead. Cheers.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 23:45, 24 January 2011 (UTC)

Oh I guess you're right, it would have been the 24th in UTC... okay, so should I just copy and paste the whole section up?? AC (talk) 23:56, 24 January 2011 (UTC)

By the way, I came to the article via the Blue Peter article. There's some work still to do on this one, there's some conflicting statements, I posted a comment on the article's talk page. Some stronger references would be good, too, the Jam and CBC ones are the only decent ones, you tube citations tend to get shot down.Echoedmyron (talk) 00:12, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
I went ahead and moved it to Jan 24, and to the time slot you would have posted it.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 00:53, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
Cool, thank you so much! I got distracted and totally forgot about it. Will I get a notification if it's picked? AC (talk) 01:10, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
You're welcome. Nope, the only notification you will receive is after it appears on the front page you will get one of these, What I do is follow the nomination progress. You really should as it is not uncommon for someone to say on their review, "this would need X done before it can appear in DYK". If reviewed it will wend its way down the page and at some point someone will grab it and add it to one of the prep areas and queues, until it is in the last queue and then to the mainpage.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 04:46, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

Your page notice

Hi, just an observation - your edit notice for this user talk page, User talk:AirCombat/Editnotice, reads "this is a userpage and is only supposed to be edited by the user!" I'm sure you can see the problem there! :) Arctic Night 22:19, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

Bloody sound player!

Hi there -- I've just uploaded my first sound clip for the article Breeding Ground but I can't get the sound player box where I want it. How can I get the text to wrap around the box? Is it possible to have it next to the infobox in the "Studio Albums" section? You'll notice I have the code for the sound clip right after the heading for that section, yet the box appears way down below the infobox, two or three paragraphs later. I've had trouble with this before, with images (for example, the file Image:Hugh_Gladish_of_Breeding_Ground.jpg which is also on that page is doing the same thing. But I guess it's okay where it is.) Thanks for any help you can give me! AC (talk) 03:48, 27 January 2011 (UTC)

Hello AirCombat - just a short note about your page notice again :) It reads:

Editing

Hello. You're editing the userpage of AirCombat. Please make your edits friendly as this is a userpage and is only supposed to be edited by the user! Arctic Night 10:06, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

Okay, I removed it, but honestly, I don't understand the point of those -- how on earth do you see it? There's no link ANYWHERE, it doesn't show up on the userpage itself, what's the point of an 'editnotice'. I put that same template directly on my Userpage, not talk page, and that seems to be the only sane place to put it, so other people actually see it. AC (talk) 21:42, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
Oh - you didn't realise? Anybody who edited (read: left a message!) on your user talk page while the edit notice was up was given the message that the page "is a userpage and is only supposed to be edited by the user". As this is a user talk page, and is meant to be edited by anybody, the edit notice was clearly incorrect! :) Arctic Night 22:38, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Breeding Ground (album)

A tag has been placed on Breeding Ground (album), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect to an article talk page, file description page, file talk page, MediaWiki page, MediaWiki talk page, category talk page, portal talk page, template talk page, help talk, user page, user talk or special page from the main/article space.

If you can fix the redirect to point to a mainspace page, please do so and remove the speedy deletion tag. However, please do not remove the speedy deletion tag unless you are fixing the redirect. If you think the redirect should be retained as is for some reason, you can request that administrators wait a while before deleting it. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and state your reasoning on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. DASHBot (talk) 23:00, 9 February 2011 (UTC)

Enlisting your input

HI! I am working with 2 other Wikipedians to improve the article "Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix". I wanted to get your input since you have already been somewhat involved in the article and seem to have a well-rounded insight into this realm. The other two have added some text which I plan to edit for quality. We have added a number of sources and some media as well. Let me know what you think!

Hey -- an article I've been reading has a section in which many sentences are copied directly from the sources cited. I put the template {{Cleanup-rewrite|many sentences are copied directly from cited sources|section}}. However, is there a better or more appropriate template to use? And I've been trying to use templates more often to make suggestions but there are just so many! I find it hard to pick the right one, is there a list somewhere of all of them that gives a good description of where and when to use it?

Thanks! /-\urelius |)ecimus 23:24, 15 February 2012 (UTC)

I'd suggest adding this to the top of the article: {{subst:copyvio|url=insert URL here}} --Chris (talk) 23:29, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
And you should remove the suspected copied text or blank the entire article until the copyright problem is resolved. --Chris (talk) 23:30, 15 February 2012 (UTC)

Okay, I actually just found the template {{Copypaste}} ... I think I might just use that. However you are right, it could easily be construed as a copyright violation. Also, do you know if there is a guide or more information on templates? Whenever I feel the need to insert one into an article, it always takes me quite a while to even find the right page that lists them all, let alone to pick the right one. Is it really just a matter of memorizing them all, or is there some sort of script I could add to my account to help me pick them? And sorry for so many questions, but I noticed that recently my edit boxes now have a bunch of buttons at the top, some of them for simple things like bolding text and finding text, but then there's a bunch of buttons like "fix math" and ... actually a LOT of buttons. Do all users have this? It seemed to appear around the time I was approved as a 'reviewer'. Also at the top of my page next to 'view history' I have three new buttons: a heart, a star (which i already know about) and "TW" which has a bunch of editing options, like nominate for speedy deletion, report user to admins, etc. Again, does everyone have these buttons now or did I turn an option on? I've been editing for a long time now (or at least it seems that way) but I've never really gotten acquainted with all these extra features; are there more that you can add or remove from your account? Thanks again!! /-\urelius |)ecimus 23:38, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
A lot of the templates are documented by category at WP:TM. You can click through pages and pages of them.
The new editor you're seeing can be enabled or disabled at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-editing under "usability features." The TW menu is twinkle (TW is the abbreviation). I don't know offhand where the heart comes from. --Chris (talk) 01:47, 16 February 2012 (UTC)

Multiple issues template

This help request has been answered. If you need more help, please place a new {{help me}} request on this page followed by your questions, or contact the responding user(s) directly on their user talk page.

So I'm getting better and better at using templates, something which I never used to do. I've been making some edits to Duane Chapman (aka Dog the Bounty Hunter). I put a few templates at the top of the article, then remembered to use the {{multiple issues}} to consolidate them so they don't overwhelm the article.

So I put {{multiple issues|BLP sources=March 2012|cleanup-link rot=March 2012|citations broken=March 2012}} in place of {{BLP sources}} {{cleanup-link rot}} {{citations broken}} but for some reason, no matter how I change it, the citations broken part will not appear in the template.

Also, what is the code to put a template directly in the article instead of linking back to the general template? If you know what I mean... Thank you in advance!!! /-\urelius |)ecimus What'sup, dog? 03:06, 6 March 2012 (UTC)

Nevermind the second question, just read the above section and I answered myself... you add subst: to the template tag. /-\urelius |)ecimus What'sup, dog? 03:07, 6 March 2012 (UTC)
Hi, AirCombat. The {{Multiple issues}} tag only accepts the parameters as listed on the template documentation. "Citations broken" is not one of the parameters included, so it will have to be added as a separate template. --Dianna (talk) 04:15, 6 March 2012 (UTC)

Better source request for File:LIDAR Gif Test Frame.png

Thanks for your upload to Wikipedia:

You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact Web page where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page or me at my talk page. Thank you. Message delivered by Theo's Little Bot (opt-out) 03:14, 16 March 2014 (UTC)

Need help with an issue

{{helpme}} I ran into the Comma Johanneum article a while ago, and noticed that one section should potentially have been nominated for deletion. I started a subject on the talk page, and the author of the original edits User:7Jim7 has replied. I stated (as you'll see) that the edits were unencylopedic and that they should be nominated for deletion. Another editor agreed with me, and 7Jim7 made some edits to try and clean the section up, but it's still pretty awful. The entire page needs a re-write, but in the meantime, I'm not sure what to do. 7Jim7 also seems to be a bit biased (if you check through his comments, you'll see what I mean).

I'm wondering:

a) Did I handle the situation correctly (now and then?) b) Is his section actually a candidate for deletion? c) If so, what should I do next?

I feel I'm a bit more of an experienced Wikipedian than he, but still, I've never dealt with something like this before. A little feedback from a mod/admin would go a long way to making me feel better about it! /-\urelius |)ecimus What'sup, dog? 21:50, 23 October 2014 (UTC)

You handled it well and properly. It sounds like most editors agree with you as well. This is a topic I don't know well, but I'll flag WP:Wikiproject Bible to see if they can try to help out. Oiyarbepsy (talk) 04:09, 24 October 2014 (UTC)

Revert

Hi AirCombat, I'm come to apologize for having to revert you - It's nothing you've done!, As you withdrawn the AFD I was worried If I closed it as Speedy Keep the redirect would be removed and basically it'd be kept as a blank article if that makes sense, I could've closed the AFD manually but it all takes time and patience and right now I have neither  , Anyway both are obviously redirected again so all's good I guess :), Anyway thanks & Happy editing!, –Davey2010Talk 12:53, 2 October 2015 (UTC)

Hi Davey. Not entirely sure what you did, but the redirects aren't working -- when I type XPConnect into the search bar, it takes me to NPAPI, not NPAPI#XPConnect, same goes for LiveConnect. Though the redirect page itself shows the correct link. Not sure what's going on? /-\urelius |)ecimus What'sup, dog? 18:43, 2 October 2015 (UTC)
Hi AirCombat, Sorry but I have no idea why it's not having it, When I remove the tags the redirect works, When I add the merge tag (and remove the section tag) it refuses to work so I have no idea why it's not having it, I'll ping Codename Lisa as she knows more about this than me! :), –Davey2010Talk 19:11, 2 October 2015 (UTC)
Hello. Judging from your context, this discussion is about all the editing that occurred since revision #683778257 in XPConnect. The edit immediately after that revision (i.e. revision #683785540) is mine. I tested it and the redirection worked as expected. I also accidentally navigated to XPConnect when revision 683778257 was still in effect and saw that the redirection to section worked just fine. Right now, revision #683822654 is in effect and it is working fine. (Just tested it by previewing this message and clicking "XPConnect" link.
Best regards,
Codename Lisa (talk) 22:41, 2 October 2015 (UTC)
Still not working for me. Clicking the link in the message just takes me to the top of NPAPI. Could be an issue on my end, but it was working before tags were added. As long as it works for everyone else, that's all fine. /-\urelius |)ecimus What'sup, dog? 08:32, 3 October 2015 (UTC)
What does your address bar say?
Codename Lisa (talk) 14:24, 3 October 2015 (UTC)
Hi Codename Lisa, The XPConnect now works for me but "LiveConnect" doesn't - It takes me to the page but not the section on that page, The url is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NPAPI#LiveConnect and if I then hit enter boom it takes me there, Maybe it's a purging issue ?... Can't be a Chrome issue ?, Anyway thans for your help :) –Davey2010Talk 16:20, 3 October 2015 (UTC)
As long the address bar reads that, the redirect and Wikipedia have done their part. I am testing it right now and it is okay. Testing your browser for integrity is a logical choice. You can try:
  1. The same browser in Privacy mode.
  2. Another web browser on the same machine. (Windows comes with Internet Explorer or Microsoft Edge, so I am guessing your trouble is minimal.)
  3. Another web browser on the same machine, is Privacy mode.
Best regards,
Codename Lisa (talk) 18:21, 3 October 2015 (UTC)

I'm confused as to how the dead link tag works. When you put it on its own, like this [dead link], it appears like a reference number (superscript). However, over on the HPIB page, I recently made a few edits to add the dead link tag. In that case, the dead link superscript only appears in the reflist, and not in the article, though I'm sure I can remember seeing it actually replace the reference number. Am I doing something wrong? The template page isn't very helpful -- I placed the tag exactly as it suggests but with no luck. Any and all help is greatly appreciated! Air Combat What'sup, dog? 10:35, 7 November 2015 (UTC)

That's how it's intended to work. Template:Dead link/doc says:

If the article uses clickable footnotes, then this tag should be placed just before the </ref> that contains the dead link. The notice will then correctly appear in the reference section (instead of in the body of the text, which is not recommended).

JohnCD (talk) 10:43, 7 November 2015 (UTC)
Okay, good to know. Why is it not recommended to have them in the text? Doesn't it help alert researchers, etc. not to rely on that part of the article as the reference may not be available? Air Combat What'sup, dog? 10:44, 7 November 2015 (UTC)
I don't know. At a guess, the assumption is that the link was once good but has suffered from WP:Link rot, so the information is probably OK and the reader going straight through need not be warned, but the warning is there for anyone who tries to check the reference. JohnCD (talk) 17:46, 7 November 2015 (UTC)

Made a mistake

I just started doing New Page Patrols, and I made a mistake. I assumed that totally non-English pages were criteria for CSD, but I realized afterward it wasn't. I removed the tag and replaced it with the Non-english tag, but it still shows as tagged for speedy deletion. How can I undo this? Thanks! Air Combat What'sup, dog? 18:52, 10 November 2015 (UTC)

The page is at 야성의_동맹 Air Combat What'sup, dog? 18:53, 10 November 2015 (UTC)
You've done everything properly; there is no more CSD tag. The page might have just been slow to reload (I've had that happen before). Primefac (talk) 19:09, 10 November 2015 (UTC)

Western Red Wings

Thanks, AirCombat! I see no reason why the article Western Red Wings is not notable enough for an article. It is a junior B ice hockey team, and two other teams in the same league have their own articles, as well as many of the Junior C teams, a level below, in the same general region. It may not be the most urgently needed page on Wikipedia, but I tend to focus on hockey related articles. I would think this could be notable. I am new, but honestly quite confused how this might be seen as not notable. Hockey articles are my focus at present, and I would like to see every junior hockey team with their own article. As for the citations, I am unafraid the used source (The Guardian PEI) is the only online source that truly gives any information on this league, considering the size of the league. It is impossible to find anything else from a different news source (unless, as in the case of the Sherwood Metros, they decide to have an all-out brawl). Thanks for your time. ~~Iheartthestrals~~ 14:39, 11/11/2015 —Preceding undated comment added 22:40, 11 November 2015 (UTC)

I wasn't trying to say it wasn't notable, as notability can be a very subjective thing :) As a new page patroller, one of my duties is to inspect articles and check for quality. I like to remind people to occasionally re-read WP:Notability as I see a lot of strange articles, especially people writing about themselves :P Plus, as an encyclopedia, we do have to pick and choose what to include. Thanks for your hard work, and thanks for contributing and joining Wikipedia! Air Combat What'sup, dog? 22:53, 11 November 2015 (UTC)

Your G1 Speedy nominations

I noticed that you have tagged at least one article for Speedy deletion under GA nonsense. Per WP:G1 that category does not apply to, for example, Chicko, where the text is perfectly readable. I agree the content is garbage, but as the G1says, "f you can understand it, G1 does not apply." I've changed teh speedy nomination on that one. Meters (talk) 23:51, 11 November 2015 (UTC)

Okay, thanks. What category did you change it to? And thanks for letting me know -- it's how I learn! Air Combat What'sup, dog? 23:53, 11 November 2015 (UTC)
Also, did I use the right category on Scott Marks? Air Combat What'sup, dog? 23:54, 11 November 2015 (UTC)
And, what category would David James Ferone fall under? Air Combat What'sup, dog? 23:58, 11 November 2015 (UTC)

Questions about New Page Patrolling

I've started recently doing new page patrols, and as you can see above, I made a mistake about WP:CSD categories. Perhaps you could answer my above questions, as well as what to do with an article like FiLTH ... is it CSD or tag? It's uncategorized, probably not notable, no sources, etc. I'm starting to get the hang of this, but occasionally stuff like this throws me off. Thanks for the help! Air Combat What'sup, dog? 00:08, 12 November 2015 (UTC)

I used A1 no context and G10 attack for Chicko. I would use A3 on Scott Marks since it is nothing but an image. David James Ferone would qualify as A7 since thyere is no claim of notability. Note that it is generally not a good idea to slap an A7 on an article immediately after it is created since it is possible thata notability claim may be made. I doubt it will be in this case, but it doesn't hurt to wait a bit. Meters (talk) 00:17, 12 November 2015 (UTC)
I would tag FiLTH (as unreferenced, at least, but not for speedy) and see if I could verify that it is a real subgenre. If it's real and we have articles on other subgenres then it's just poorly written, not a CSD candidate. Meters (talk) 00:21, 12 November 2015 (UTC)
From the research I just did, I can't find any references to it online. The only artist mentioned has no page on Wikipedia, either. I tagged it as unreferenced and uncategorized. Does it look like I've been doing a (half-decent, at least) good job? When I come across a bad page that looks like someone was actually trying, I make a few edits and then add a welcome template to their page, usually directed at whatever mistake they made. As a new page patroller, should we spend more time reviewing, or more time trying to fix pages that are badly done? Just curious as to what your flow is like. Air Combat What'sup, dog? 00:26, 12 November 2015 (UTC)
Spend your time however you want to. It's all volunteer work. I will point out that there is no necessity to make a decision on any particular article just because you looked at it. As a fairly new reviewer you may want to hold off on marking a new article as patrolled if you are at all uncertain.what you should do. That way you can check back later and see if the patrol outcome was what you would have done.
FiLTH is a problem. It appears that the purported subgenre was actually invented by G-Mo Skee (see https://g-mo.bandcamp.com/), and the article was probably created in an attempt to bolster the user's attempt to create an article on G-Mo Skee (speedied 4 times now). I don't deal much with music articles, but I doubt this will qualify for an article. Note that musical genres do not qualify for speedy under A7 or A9. It's not A11, clearly invented by the user (although the months of persistence of the user wrt G-Mo Skee makes you wonder). I think this one has to go to WP:AFD. I'll do it. Meters (talk) 04:26, 12 November 2015 (UTC)
See Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/FiLTH
If you look at the history for Eesean Bolden‎ it shows that you created it. What probably happened is that you redirected the article to what you thought was the correct title, and by the time you saved your edit the original article had been deleted (probably for having been created under the wrong name). Meters (talk) 05:37, 12 November 2015 (UTC)
It was deleted as being an exact duplicate, and yeah that's exactly what happened. I edited the page to move it, and someone nominated it as speedy right before I moved it. Also, I've taken your suggestion. I had already been doing that -- waiting to see what other reviewers would do. Interesting thoughts on the FiLTH article. I will keep an eye on that one as well! Thanks for all your help! Air Combat What'sup, dog? 18:35, 12 November 2015 (UTC)

VPN Access?

Removed request.

VPNs are normally regarded, in Wikipedia terms, as being equivalent to open proxies. I have never used one personally, but am I not correct in believing that it is possible to go to a specific site, such as this one, without activating the VPN connection?--Anthony Bradbury"talk" 12:30, 15 March 2016 (UTC)
Yes, it's possible, but then you have to disconnect and reconnect every time you want to edit a page. It's almost like a dial-up connection -- it takes a minute to connect, and then all your traffic goes through there. If you had to disconnect and reconnect every time you wanted to edit a page, it would get tedious really quickly. Air Combat What'sup, dog? 18:20, 15 March 2016 (UTC)
Why was this never addressed further? I never got an answer. Air Combat What'sup, dog? 05:44, 6 June 2016 (UTC)

File permission problem with File:Vandu 001.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Vandu 001.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 14:12, 1 June 2016 (UTC)

You missed File:Vandu 002.jpg. Might as well delete that one too, then. I thought this had all been cleared up years ago when I uploaded the files. Air Combat What'sup, dog? 05:43, 6 June 2016 (UTC)

New deal for page patrollers

Hi MrAureliusR,

In order to better control the quality of new pages, keep out the spam, and welcome the genuine newbies, the current system we introduced in 2011 is being updated and improved. The documentation and tutorials have also been revised and given a facelift. Most importantly a new user group New Page Reviewer has been created.

Under the new rule, you may find that you are temporarily unable to mark new pages as reviewed. However, this is nothing to worry about - most current experienced patrollers are being accorded the the new right without the need to apply, and if you have significant previous experience of patrolling new pages, we strongly encourage you to apply for the new right as soon as possible - we need all the help we can get, and we are now providing a dynamic, supportive environment for your work.

Find out more about this exiting new user right now at New Page Reviewers and be sure to read the new tutorial before applying. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 04:28, 13 November 2016 (UTC)

Hello!

I'm working on creating a team to update existing Wikipedia articles about tech devices to include information about repairability (more specifically, how repairable that particular device is.) I found your profile in the WikiProject Technology and I was looking for some more information about either recruiting other interested people or even joining the WikiProject Technology as a possible Child Project or a Task Force. If you’re interested, go check out the Tech Repairability WikiProject Proposal and maybe add your name to the list of interested people! I'm new to Wikipedia, so please let me know if this is not the appropriate way to go about my search for getting support for this WikiProject–learning the culture of a new online community will take me some time.

Thanks! SilmarilElwing (talk) 23:22, 30 June 2021 (UTC)

File permission problem with File:Vandu 002.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Vandu 002.jpg.

Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 20:11, 25 September 2021 (UTC)

Don't understand why this one wasn't deleted at the same time as page 1. I know for a fact that all materials published by VANDU are free for anyone to reuse for any purpose, but I am not a member so I can't vouch for them. No reason to wait until October 2nd, just delete it now. MrAureliusRTalk! 22:53, 26 September 2021 (UTC)
