The Military history WikiProject Newsletter : XLIII (September 2009)
| |||
Greetings to all members of the Military history WikiProject, and to those outside the project who receive this news letter as well! My name is TomStar81, and it with a great sense of pride that I assume the position of lead coordinator for the project. On behalf of all the coordinators, both new and returning, we wish to thank those of you who participated in the September elections, and we look forward to working to advance the goals of the project for the next six months. With the elections concluded, there are two changes. First, Roger Davies has been appointed a coordinator emeritus, joining our first coordinator emeritus Kirill Lokshin. Secondly, for the first time ever, the lead coordinator for the Military history WikiProject will be taking a lengthy wikibreak. For those who were unaware of this, I am an undergraduate student, and will be taking a leave of absence, effective end September, to focus on graduating in December. However, with fourteen coordinators, and two coordinators emeritus, I am confident the needs of the project will be well taken care of. For the VIII coordinator tranche, TomStar81 (Talk) |

AutoWikiBrowser problems
Hi again TinuCherian, it's been a while. I was about to embark on some WikiProject tagging through Arbitrarily0Bot when I noticed AutoWikiBrowser version 4.6.0.0 was not working. When I tried using version 4.9.0.2, it said that the Kingbotk Plugin was not compatible. Do you know of a work-around for this that I can try? Thanks for your time. Cheers, Arbitrarily0 (talk) 23:27, 5 October 2009 (UTC)
- I will investigate myself. Wikipedia talk:AutoWikiBrowser/Bugs says AWB 4.6 is broken due to MW Changes. We cannot roll out a fix yet, due to other blocking bugs due to IE. Feel free to download a SVN snapshots, and use 4.9.0.2. This will also help us with testing, and help us release it to you quicker!Reported issues with 4.9.0.2 (ApiEdit) saving wrong pages without reporting. AWB is used at Users/Bot owners discretion . Watch out for newer SVN snapshots till we get a new stable version.. Anyways this is bad, I was supposed to take a live demo of AWB to Wikipedians at WP:MBL6 Meetup... :( -- Tinu Cherian - 02:24, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
- Hopefully this will be resolved before the meetup. Well, I'll let you know if I find out anything. Good luck, Arbitrarily0 (talk) 13:26, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
- I downloaded AutoWikiBrowser4902_rev5528.zip from http://toolserver.org/~awb/snapshots/ and found Kingboyk Plugin working -- Tinu Cherian - 05:26, 13 October 2009 (UTC)
- Great, thanks a lot! I just used it today for some WikiProject Telecommunications tagging. The only problem was the edit summaries, which said "tagged for WikiProject Telecommunications (Plugin++) Added {{AWB". Oh well, small matter, and thanks again! Happy editing (or soon mopping!), Arbitrarily0 (talk) 15:42, 18 October 2009 (UTC)

Needed help with this category, as Latur Division does not exist. I had marked it for deletion, but users are adding the category directly to pages, not thru templates. How can it be set right? You missed my earlier request, I suppose. Paalappoo (talk) 13:13, 18 October 2009 (UTC)
- Can you give me some referenced where it contains the complete divisions of the state ? Can you give me the list of the users who are adding it ? Any idea why they are adding a divison that doesnt exist at all? -- Tinu Cherian - 13:24, 18 October 2009 (UTC)
- You can check Maharashtra and List of districts of Maharashtra. Paalappoo (talk) 13:29, 18 October 2009 (UTC)
Council "membership"
Right now, at the bottom of your user page, you do describe yourself as a "member" of the various groups listed, one of which is the Council. Personally, I can and do think that objecting to your candidacy on the basis of that phrasing might be a bit much, particularly since you've been a "member" since the time there was "membership" in that group, but it might not be a bad idea to change that phrasing. I'd personally hate to see you get a final oppose vote on something that minor. John Carter (talk) 16:44, 18 October 2009 (UTC)

Hi,
I see that you had made quite a few pages about "highly populated Indian villages in Kerala". For example, this one. The problem I see is that quite a few of them (perhaps all) have a single reference and it doesnt work. I verified that there is nothing wrong with the data you have given in the articles - Some other page on the same site has the statistics (for example I can navigate Home->Kerala->Kozhikode->Quilandy->Changaroth from the referred page to get the statistics about this village). But the reference will have to be changed on all these pages and I can't think of an easy way to do it. Hoping that you would find the solution.
Btw, Congratz on your adminship. -- Raziman T V (talk) 08:57, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
Nair
Lately Nair article has been facing increasing incidence of Vandalism. So the result was that an admin locked the page. But can't it be blocked such that only auto confirmed users are allowed to edit? Many non-confirmed users are spoiling the page....So pls help.....The article has lots t improve...
ARUNKUMAR P.RTalk 12:56, 24 October 2009 (UTC)
- It is indeed semi protected only which mean auto -confirmed folks can still edit. Am I missing something ? -- Tinu Cherian - 05:17, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
Timus Rian
Hello Tinu
This is Timus Rian from Kerala. Pretty obvious that Timus Rian is a pseudonym but my real name is pretty obvious too.
I just stumbled on to this User Talk section and I am not too sure what this is meant for. Just stopped by to say Hi!.
Bye

TinucherianBot hasn't been making any edits since September
I've noticed per this, if you take a look at the monthly counts, your bot has not been editing since September. Is there something wrong with the bot? Also, the edit count userbox is outdated.
BTW: Congrats on your adminship! ConCompS (talk) 02:02, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
- Thanq for the wishes. Btw TinucherianBot is essentially a AWB based bot. In recent times, AWB is very unstable and may give unpredicted results. Hence I was skeptic on running this on Bot mode until AWB is stable again. Thanks for asking. Have a gr8 day -- Tinu Cherian - 05:00, 26 October 2009 (UTC)

St. Mary's Church, Palyar
Hi! Tinu Cherian,
I have prepared a draft article on the above subject in my User:Nvvchar/sandbox/Kalpeshwar. You have been contributing on Church related artciles a good deal. I would, therefore, appreciate if you could copy edit this article, add more text if required and also remove any oddities. I want you to nominate it on DYK with a suitable hook. I am not very sure if the img of the church in the info box is correct. I wanted to verify it myself during my recent visit to Kerala but the taxi driver misled me to some other place. The pictures posted in the article are from flickr, posted by some one who has visited these places and has been a very generous person to put all his photos under free license for upload to wikicommons. I hope you like the way I have covered the subject. Please let me know so that I can also suggest a suitable hook for your consideration since I want you to nominate it. Thanks.--Nvvchar (talk) 15:03, 8 October 2009 (UTC)

- Sorry sirji, I was completly busy with my RFA.. I will do this over this weekend itself. Apologies again for the delay -- Tinu Cherian - 15:21, 17 October 2009 (UTC)
- I have read your my RFA. I am impressed with the nomination and the support you have got. I hope you have made it now. I now look forward to your editing my article, as the creator of Christianity Portal. In the mean time, I have posted two articles namely, Fort Anjediva and Church of Our Lady of Springs and posted on DYK today. I hope they are also in order.--Nvvchar (talk) 15:09, 19 October 2009 (UTC)
- I was hoping that I could post this article as my 100th DYK but now I have posted Gwalior Fort article on DYK (stub aricle expanded). But I will wait to post the St. Thomas Church article after you complete its editing for nomination when you are a little free from your busy schedule as Admn.--Nvvchar (talk) 15:10, 25 October 2009 (UTC)

Hi Tinucherian,
I have a problem which needs to be solved. I know how to solve it but it requires the help from Administrators such as you.
The word "Mìng-dĕ̤ng-ngṳ̄ " (English: Min Dong) does not display properly on English Wikipedia but it displays perfectly fine on Mindong Wikipedia because the Administrator there had inserted this code onto MediaWiki:Common.css.
/** CSS placed here will be applied to all skins */ /* <pre> Hope the poor little "Ṳ" looks alright... */ body, pre { font-family: "Charis SIL", "Arial Unicode MS", "Lucida Sans Unicode"; } input, textarea, select { font-family: "Charis SIL", "Arial Unicode MS", "Lucida Sans Unicode"; } /* </pre> */
However that code has not yet been inserted on English Wikipedia here: MediaWiki:Common.css
Could you help me insert that code? Please. --Jose77 (talk) 06:25, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
