Metamizil is a central anticholinergic drug and a tranquilliser with powerful sedative and hypnotic effects; it was studied during the Soviet era by Soviet scientists alongside amizil.[1][2]
Pharmacology
[edit]Metamizil acts as a muscarinic antagonist[3][4] and, at a dose of 2 mg/kg, blocks the symptoms of parkinsonism (hypokinesia, rigidity and tremor). Metamizil was used as premedication,[5][6] and is a strong sedative.[2][7][5]
The median lethal dose following intraperitoneal administration was 118 mg/kg (mouse).[8]
Uses
[edit]It has been suggested that it be used in the treatment of neuroses in dogs and humans.[7][9] Sometimes as premedication (as a tranquilliser).[5][6] As well as in the treatment of vascular parkinsonism[10][11] and cerebral palsy.[12]
Side effects
[edit]The reported side effects included dizziness and a dry mouth.[11]
