New editor?
editHello Fuebay, and welcome. Out of curiosity, have you ever edited WP before, either under a different user name or as an IP? Thanks.--Epeefleche (talk) 06:53, 25 November 2014 (UTC)
- I have been here before, lurking during my time at uni and actually contributing towards the end of 2012. I've been sporadically on and off since then. Thanks for the interest. Fuebaey (talk) 11:18, 26 November 2014 (UTC)

Prep sets
editHi, I'm really glad you came on board to help with nominations and prep sets. I'd just like to note that we try to stagger the images of people/buildings/nature/art; that's why I've sometimes moved an image along to a later prep set. It would also be great if you could build an entire prep set rather than just promoting two or three hooks. That way you could formulate the whole presentation, rather than having other editors search around for other hooks that go with what's already there. Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 20:23, 2 December 2014 (UTC)
- No worries, I'm staggering wasp submissions myself. I tend to go every other set but if you prefer I could switch it further. On prep sets, I usually build the first two complete. I randomise the rest because I work from the top of the list and there's not always a common (bio or building) ready to slot in. Fuebaey (talk) 00:19, 3 December 2014 (UTC)
- Understood. I also start from the top, but I usually pull a few from the bottom to get the variety we need. Yoninah (talk) 09:18, 3 December 2014 (UTC)
1. Thanks you are doing a great job. 2. thx for promoting Frances Mary Richardson Currer ... 3. Wording error in the hook for Frances Mary Richardson Currer (Its lost some words when it was copied 4. thx again Victuallers (talk) 23:34, 2 December 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks. I copyedited the hook a bit to reflect the article source, but I'll change it back if it reads better. Fuebaey (talk) 00:19, 3 December 2014 (UTC)
Okay... I've cited the non-English release names. Schmidt, Michael Q. 23:04, 4 December 2014 (UTC)

Bug on Echo prevents me from using {{Ping}}.... — Revi 10:00, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
I appreciate your following up on this nomination. Just for your information, the ALT4 hook and the corresponding line in the article is an excellent example of paraphrasing the source rather than copying it. If the material were cited, it would have to be in quotes, right? IMO the page creator did an excellent job citing the sources in his own words, and so there is nothing wrong with ALT4. Yoninah (talk) 16:50, 20 December 2014 (UTC)
- The way I read it was that "Clark reversed the romantic image". Even if you were to acknowledge this as an appropriate paraphrase, I'm not comfortable with it implying that Clark was somewhat influential in defining the traditional vampiric image. The article attributes this to his opinion, the hook does not. Fuebaey (talk) 23:01, 20 December 2014 (UTC)
- OK, I understand that reasoning. Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 09:40, 21 December 2014 (UTC)

Hello,
I have supplied a replacement QPQ per your request. The above DYK nomination is now eligible for review.
Georgejdorner (talk) 18:07, 31 December 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks, I tend to review older nominations so please don't take offence if I pass up on this. I just noticed the same review while running through the list. If it's still there in a few weeks I'll have a go.
- You might want to fix these though before they're reviewed:
- Operation Raindance now shares a QPQ with Ban Naden raid
- Phisit Intharathat shares a QPQ with Operation Pigfat.

editHello,
I have taken the liberty of listing the above nomination of yours for the edification of other editors.
Georgejdorner (talk) 18:50, 31 December 2014 (UTC)
- I know you mean well, but I think WP:DYKSTATS is meant for articles that gain more than 5,000 clicks during their feature on the main page. The above doesn't qualify because it was shy of that figure while it was on the main page on 22 December. Maybe you could consult these instructions before adding more to that page? Guanacaste Conservation Area DYK
editHi, thanks for the new ref you've added to Guanacaste Conservation Area, it has now been passed for DYK.
You've asked for clarification about my comments concerning the referencing in the article. I mentioned self published sources and wikis: see WP:USERGENERATED for more details. For example, one of the websites used in the article is The Encyclopaedia of Earth, which may look like a reputable website but is in fact a user generated wiki; IE any member can make changes whether they are true or not. Its better than most because it has some safe guards and checks but is not as reputable as for example a book of the same title published through a major academic publisher. Another example of a slightly suspect website is the Costa Rica National Parks one ([1] [2]: the website is covered in advertisement links, though there is a suggestion that it is linked to a Polish education institute through a link on the website's homepage. Basically, the sources of the information you are added to wikipedia need to reputable. Preferably an editor would be using academic books and journals, good newspapers, official websites etc and avoiding other wikis, self published books and websites: in short, use peer reviewed sources.
However, the above doesn't stop something passing for DYK. As long as the hook is cited using good sources.
I hope that answers your question. Sorry if its not what you wanted and feel free to ask again. Gaia Octavia Agrippa Talk 23:57, 5 January 2015 (UTC)

DYK
editHi, can you please tell me, how to count characters in the article nominated for DYK? RRD13 দেবজ্যোতি (talk) 16:03, 27 March 2015 (UTC)
- Sure, for DYK only prose characters are considered. That includes pretty much everything in sentence form, but not those in: headings, infoboxes, lists/bullet points/indentations, block/long quotes, tables/templates, captions and references. For example, in Roberto Firmino the prose count would include: the lead, the 'Club career' section - minus the headings (Brazil, Hoffenheim and the dates) - and the paragraph under 'International career'. If you copy/paste those sections into a word counter it should give a total of 4366 characters.
- If you prefer, you could always install DYKcheck, which automates this process. To do this, go to your skin.js file and save the line:
importScript('User:Shubinator/DYKcheck.js'); //DYKcheck tool
- Once you've refreshed, a link called 'DYKcheck' should appear at the bottom of a section called 'tools' - which can be found somewhere in your left sidebar. If you click that while on an article page it will provide you with a prose count of characters/words. Fuebaey (talk) 20:48, 27 March 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for your comments at DYK
editExcellent summary of the situation. In particular you were right on about TRM's "continuously using fresh examples to advance an argument while indirectly pillorying good faith contributors" -- I've been begging him for almost a year to please stop doing that, because it drives people away from, instead of toward, the quality question, but when he began saying that I, personally, have been "promoting mediocre, or worse" content I let myself get away from myself. I'm glad I did it though, block or no block. Someone has to stand up to this bully.
One other comment: In addition to the process-restructuring activities on the separate subpage, there's also the open proposal to make basic grammar a DYK criterion (Wikipedia_talk:Did_you_know#So_what_do_other_editors_think.3F). I fear that without such a criterion, no amount of restructuring of the process will have much effect on the final product. I've been begging everyone and his mother to please comment at that discussion, because I think it's pivotal. EEng (talk) 06:05, 14 June 2015 (UTC)

RE:Equatorial Guinea
editSorry, I had no intention in undoing your edits. When I saw there weren't even a info box in the version before my reversion, so, no information on EQ population nor in the lead neither in the nonexistent infobox in that revision, then I reverted to last stable revision before the removal of sourced content by the user Moalli that haven't even participated in the article's talk page and can be considered vandalism. I had no intention on undoing your edits and if you want you can redo it.
By the way, your revision also removed a sourced content, the contradiction is not between the infoxbox and the lead info, but between the sources cited by them. The lead cites the EQ government web page while the infobox cites the CIA Fact Book (US Government), if you prefer to remove the pop number from lead (which is sourced), I will not revert you because it's becoming boring, wikipedians should know the articles content must reflect its sources. I just advise that if you prefer data from CIA FactBook on EQ population, you are pretermitting the EQ official information on EQ population while preferring the US fact estimation on EQ population, it's your choice.
Please, use article's talk page instead of user talk page, so other users can easily follow the discussion.--Luizdl Talk 23:33, 20 August 2015 (UTC)
- @Luizdl: No worries. I did think it was a simple mistake rather than a content dispute, which is why I went to your talk page first. But you do raise a valid point, so I'll start a thread on the talk page. Thanks for the response. Fuebaey (talk) 23:44, 20 August 2015 (UTC)
DYK for James Robb
editPosting this here in case you aren't watching the nomination.
Did you know
- ... that golfers James Robb and Clifford Lingen each scored a horrendous 9 on the 6th hole in the 1906 Amateur Championship at Royal Liverpool Golf Club?
Created by Nigej (talk) and ♥Golf (talk · contribs). Nominated by ♥Golf (talk · contribs) at 08:10, 18 July 2015 (UTC).
- This article is new enough and long enough. It is neutral and I found no close paraphrasing issues. I think a QPQ needs to be done for this nomination. I would also like to suggest you incorporate the quote you give above into an alternative hook because, to the uninitiated into golf parlance, "halving the sixth with a score of 9" will seem an unremarkable occurrence. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 05:40, 14 August 2015 (UTC)
- @♥Golf: As far as I'm aware, the nominator has one DYK credit so is exempt from a QPQ. Hook issue still needs to be addressed though. Fuebaey (talk) 03:43, 24 August 2015 (UTC)
- I have re-written the hook to make it more understandable and interesting to the non-golfers out there. I think everyone knows that a 9 on a golf hole is a really bad score! ♥Golf (talk · contribs)
- I did a review for Timothy R. Coffin awhile back. Hopefully that will qualify me under the QPQ guidelines. ♥Golf (talk · contribs).

Thanks for Review
editHi, thanks for reviewing Desi daru DYK nomination. It was really nice thing that you gave time to read and explore that article. I really appreciate your comments and your review is really helpful to improve the article. It was my first ever DYK nomination so it may have lacked few things. And yes English is not my native language. I will try to address your expressed concerns and will try to improve the article though I'm not much optimistic regarding that DYK. Thanks again.--Human3015TALK 20:34, 22 September 2015 (UTC)
Close paraphrasing in Antoni Koper
editThank you so much for taking the time and effort to review Antoni Koper for inclusion in DYK. I apologize for the long delay in my response, but I have been necessarily unavailable for several weeks so I didn't see your message until today. I have corrected the instance of close paraphrasing you cited, but in my thorough review of article and sources, I have failed to successfully identify the other instances of close paraphrasing you found. Needless to say, I was troubled to read that you found such extensive problems with the article, and I'm eager to consider any additional specific suggestions you have. Would you be so kind as to take another look and perhaps offer additional specific instances of concern. Thank you in advance for any help you can offer. Titles
editPlease stop using this page to force through your own personal stylistic preference.
- – It's not personal – it's general practice in U.S. journalism and publishing.
- Further, no one has countered my observations with reasoned counter-arguments. They just cite MOS.
- No policy should be maintained merely because it's established practice, here or anywhere else. That's how institutions become ossified relics. Sca (talk) 22:35, 6 December 2015 (UTC)
- Perhaps they cite the Manual of Style because they agree with it? If you refer to the AP Stylebook, isn't that your personal preference, albeit one shared with US journalism? Imagine if another person pointed out that both the US government (p37, 3.35) and the European one (p20, 4.5) capitalise titles for head of states/governments. Editors will have different opinions on which style should be more prevalent, hence why we defer to consensus. While consensus may change, I don't understand why you would choose to discuss changes to the MOS in an area where interested editors may not frequent. Fuebaey (talk) 16:32, 7 December 2015 (UTC)

Schauinsland
editPerfectly happy with your reversion. Thanks. There is a danger here, of undue attention being paid to Hofsgrund- while in future I see that Engländerungluck will be floated as a separate article. Looking at the task, it looks huge. On de-wiki Schauinsland looks like a tourist board pamphlet- and the structure has been translated into en-wiki. To make sense of it we need to translate and wikify and reference numerous related Schwarzwald articles too. I would have liked to add an efn to current mountain leadership, and school trip practice; but that would require further restructuring. Which reference to use- Trafford was top of the Google List- and twenty five years ago Lancashire and Cheshire lead the way on school trip restriction due to the proximity of North Wales, and their own hills in the Lake District. There is a long way to go- but these useful links are now available in the log.--ClemRutter (talk) 11:53, 8 July 2016 (UTC)
