Usurption of Beano
Hey, thanks for your message. I thought about usurping those names, but I didn't believe that was possible because those accounts, even as vandal accounts, made contributions and are ineligible. If I am wrong and this is in fact possible, what is an easy way to go about usurping Beano in all of the sister projects? Thanks for your help. ~Beano~ (talk) (contribs) 21:31, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
AfD for Indonesmusic
Hello. I'm writing because you were the admin who closed the debate on Indonesmusic. I also nominated Indonesian Single Top as well, because they were essentially the same page, but it looks like this one never got deleted. So I was wondering if you could complete it. Thanks in advance. :) (If I should be writing somewhere else, please let me know.) SKS2K6 (talk) 23:16, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
Hello
I am having major problems with User:Emerson7. From what I have seen on his talk page and the talk pages of several other editors, I am not alone. He keeps reverting things I've written without having any discussion first. In several instances the changes he's making don't follow project guidelines or simply aren't appropriate. I explain every edit I make as clearly as I can but he just reverts them and then threatens to report me. I've never had this problem with anyone before. I'm here to enjoy myself, but he's making me miserable. Could you advise me how to deal with him? I'm asking you because it seems you also have had a problem with him, except not to the same extent as I. Thank you for your input! LiteraryMaven (talk) 23:55, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
Parasitology DYK hooks
What was wrong with the combined hook for paleoparasitology and archaeoparasitology? I'm not challenging your judgment, just curious about what the problem was (so I don't make the same mistake in the future). Thanks, —Politizer talk/contribs 15:54, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
You song
Could you undelete the article You (Schiller song)? The song was released and entered the charts now. Jonny84 (talk) 17:48, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
Gay Kids
I just noticed Gay Kids is listed on the main page. I'm a little weary about the promotional material ("an exhibition of the book's photographic material will be on display"), its sourcing to four Norwegian news articles that are translated without knowing who translated it, and no way to determine notability. It is also strange to have a book that was just published a few days ago to be notable for Wikipedia without having a lot of background material on it, having a notable author, publicity, etc. It seems to be merely pictures of gay celebrities, without anything notable about it. Just a heads up. Ottava Rima (talk) 21:50, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

Social welfare hook
Just to let you know, I didn't remove that hook because I personally didn't like it, but because another reviewer (Nrswanson) had challenged it and no one had ever responded. But if you think the hook is ok, then I don't mind keeping it. —Politizer talk/contribs 22:39, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

DYK
Hello, Cirt. I probably should have just come to you about this. Would you not mind answering the question I left about this at Template talk:Did you know? Flyer22 (talk) 06:13, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
- I do not understand, please clarify? Cirt (talk) 06:22, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
- At Template talk:Did you know, I readded that nomination with this question: I just wanted to ask a question, because I am not sure where to ask it on this matter. The above was verified as ready for DYK, but was removed with the message "mv to next". That means you guys decided not to use it, right? I do not mean to sound dense. I am sure that it means you guys decided not to use it, but I suppose I expected a reason to be displayed. Anyway, when we list an article here and we do not get a message back about it, that means we should take that to mean it was not used? I mean, reasons are usually not given, unless the article fails DYK standards, right? Flyer22 (talk) 06:28, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
- Quite the opposite. It was successfully selected for T:DYK and added to one of the queues under the new system. Please remove it (again) from T:TDYK. Cirt (talk) 06:35, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

Portrait image
Hi Cirt, thanks for your hard work. I'd like to replace the portrait image on Template:Did you know/Queue/5 with the image of sticky bomb if you don't mind, because we've had really a lot of male portrait images in the lead spot, which is unbalanced. --BorgQueen (talk) 09:35, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

Sebastian Shaw
The only reason I have made any changes to Sebastian Shaw's entry in the past is because Star Wars fans kept filling it with pointless trivia about their favourite film. As the article is about a respected stage and film actor with decades of acting experience it is quite disrespectful to him. I believe the number of changes had improved the article, especially considering that the person responsible for putting it up on Wiki had just copied it from a Star Wars website (thus the pointless trivia, mistakes and ignorance of the rest of his career). I have either started or improved articles on many British actors, and believe I have helped to improve Wiki's entries on the subject. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gillray (talk • contribs) 13:49, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

DYK swap
Hey, would you be able to swap Central Park (skyscraper) back to a later update, as Reedy had done on my request? It's just a time of day request on my part, not entirely important. If it goes up in this batch it will be up in the middle of the night in the city of the building, which is what happened to my last DYK article too. - Mark 14:30, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

Nov 11 hook
I'm sorry about your hook; I'm still pretty new to this process and I apologize if I have misapplied DYK guidelines. I personally am not sure what to think about it (my first instinct was to say "the text in the list shouldn't count since it's listy, and not arranged into prose that a user can sit down and read like a book"...but then I remembered that I often criticize articles for the exact opposite reason, saying "the article is written that the only way to understand it is to sit down and read it from start to finish, whereas articles should be written so a reader can jump around and glean information easily from it here and there") now that you have raised questions about the guideline, so when you are able to re-nominate the article I will let the more experienced DYK people decide. I think my intuition is still not to count the list towards the article length since the text in the list, while informative, isn't distilled into a summary/introduction for the reader...but again, I'm still new to all this. I just wanted to say sorry for having been the one to start this disagreement. —Politizer talk/contribs 07:36, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
- Already taken care of! —Politizer talk/contribs 08:38, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
What the problem may actually be
I think the problem is really location, and not information being presented. For instance, I could turn this source into information in a "Reception/Analysis/etc" section, or I could place it in the "Characterization" section, as it's about how they develop the characteristics of Smallville's version of Clark Kent. That is what I would normally do because I find it more relevant there. If you look, I could take out at least two or three other sources from the article and move them to a new section, but I find them more relevant where they are. Like, the part where Byun says that Welling was perfectly cast as Clark Kent and then goes on to describe why. That's in the "Tom Welling" section, but could easily be in a "Reception" section. There are other examples. The information is there (though, it certainly isn't in tremendous amounts), it's just not separated out. BIGNOLE (Contact me) 15:06, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
- I guess, if it will subside the worries, I could reformat the information in the already existence sections and move information to a new one. Then we can see how that looks. The reaso I didn't do it originally because it seemed out of place mixing opinions on characterization with opinions on acting ability. BIGNOLE (Contact me) 15:22, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
- It's not a lot, but I managed to scrap together some more info. I had to travel deep into the pages of the Google News search. BIGNOLE (Contact me) 04:30, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
Could you please outline on the articles talk page what areas you feel are original research because there is nothing glaringly obvious to me. Million_Moments (talk) 15:32, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

question
Do you think that edit summaries like this, this, and things like this should be used by an admin? And isn't it standard procedure to add Template:Block when blocking a user? Have a look into Scarian blocking User:SlayerXT and the Category:Wikipedia sockpuppets of SlayerXT. And i'm not sure, but is it standard place to revert every single one of a blocked users edits no matter what? because Scarian reverted every single one of the edits, with no explanation. Alot of times, Scarian's reverts constituted vandalism because it removed portions of artilces (such as infoboxes) that the banned user added in. Any thoughts? - -' The Spook (TALK) (Share the Love with Barnstars) 23:16, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
- Suggest you bring this issue to WP:AN, or perhaps dispute resolution, would be best to get wider community input instead of just one administrator. Cirt (talk) 08:14, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
Portals
Hey Cirt, thanks for your input about Portal:Schools. I admit, I'm getting disappointed with the lack of additional input. If it's not up to standard, I'd really rather have the nom failed so I can move on to other things (I even did some portal peer reviews last month), but I guess the portal directors either disagree or are too busy. Anyway, when you get the chance you might want to take another look at Portal:Peru and Portal:United Nations; some additional work has been done on those. Also, Portal:Atlas was just placed for FPOC. Best, --Jh12 (talk) 02:54, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

Let's keep both cites, can't hurt to have 2 cites at the end of a sentence. Also, please don't undo my formatting change - I have worked on standardizing/collapsing the "reiterman" cites so they do not appear numerous times in the References section, and I will eventually be redoing that with {{citation}}/{{harvnb}} - see The General in His Labyrinth for an example of how that will look in the end. Cirt (talk) 21:40, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
- The problem with that is that, for the moment, we've lost all of the Reiterman individual page numbers that I've cited for each event, aggregated them into one vague cited Raven ref and are just citing that ref.Mosedschurte (talk) 21:46, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
- Also, the Singer cite was wrong. The Cessna attack didn't happen first. The Otter attack happened, then the Cessna attack. That's per Vern Gosney now on three different TV documentaries. So I just grabbed the Raven "concurrently" language and dumped the incorrect Singer cite.Mosedschurte (talk) 21:48, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

Purge tab Gadget
I noticed your addition of a purge tab Gadget; if you wrote it or understand JavaScript, I thought it might be interesting to compare my personal version of the code, which I think offers a few advantages, such as adding the "selected" class when wgAction
is "purge". The code follows.
addOnloadHook(function() {
if (wgCanonicalNamespace != 'Special')
{
addPortletLink('p-cactions', wgServer + wgScript + '?title=' + wgPageName + '&action=purge', 'purge', 'ca-purge', 'Purge the server cache of this page', null, (document.getElementById('ca-watch') ? document.getElementById('ca-watch') : document.getElementById('ca-unwatch')));
//and apply the "selected" class, so that one can confirm that the page has been purged.
if (wgAction == "purge") {document.getElementById('ca-purge').className='selected';}
}
});

RfA thanks
The RfA Barnstar | ||
Cirt, I would like to thank you for your participation in my recent Request for Adminship, which passed with 112 supports, 4 opposes and 5 neutrals. A special mention goes out to Stwalkerster and Pedro for nominating me, thanks a lot for having trust in me! In response to the neutrals, I will try to double check articles that have been tagged for speedy deletion before I CSD them and will start off slowly with the drama boards of ANI and AN to ensure that I get used to them. In response to the oppose !votes on my RfA, I will check that any images I use meet the non-free content criteria and will attempt to handle any disputes or queries as well as I can. If you need my help at all, feel free to simply ask at my talk page and I'll see if I can help. Once again, thank you for your participation, and have a great day! :) The Helpful One 22:27, 25 November 2008 (UTC) |

In view of the fact that the article changed markedly from the original article I proposed for deletion I believe that your closing rationale requires more than "the result was delete". Please would you revisit your closure and extend your rationale. Fiddle Faddle (talk) 07:04, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
- The restoration probably makes the most sense. It may still come out as "delete", which is fine if it does. Fiddle Faddle (talk) 07:13, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
I'm actually not sure, I think the images are formatted so that it is impossible to put them side by side. Besiedes, it would create a lot of empty space (whitespace) in the rest of the rows. I think the best option would be to either stick with three or preferably, just pick one image. Or, if you don't mind sacrificing sortability, you could give each individual winner their own row (see List of Nobel Laureates in Chemistry for an example). -- Scorpion0422 12:17, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

Your really nice thanks, I enjoy reading your articles how can any one not Interested in cults and such not know you, You really are the king of Anonymous, you have really given so much to Wikipedia and so Much Knowledge, you are one of the reasons I found out about Scientology and one of the Major reasons my Senior Project was on Scientology and its misdoings. Your additions to Wikipedia are so great that if you decided to blank the front page several times people would say no that guys still cool because he addded 100 times what he deleted (although that might not be the best thing to do) Thanks Cirt you make Wikipedia Cool. --Zaharous (talk) 17:35, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

Have you ever wondered if these people such as COFS are doing stuff on Wikipedia just to tell their friends that Wikipedia is Bigoted and do not believe what they say about Xenu and Operation freakout. DYK update question
Hi Cirt. Just to get an easy start I added one DYK to complete Portal:Norway/DYK/43. I came up fine right there, but didn't show up over at Portal:Norway/DYK. How come? I feel kind of hesitant about continuing the updating as long as I don't know why the first attempt did not lead anywhere. Stranger still, when I hit "edit this page" at Portal:Norway/DYK, and then "Show preview" my update shows up just fine. Manxruler (talk) 00:02, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

Could you please reconsider your closure of this AfD. I think it is pretty clear that the subject of the article is notable and as only four editors (including nom) participated in the AfD (two of them before my keep !vote which I think cited enough coverage to justify an article), and the only editor to vote !delete after my comment did not address either the study or the other magazine article that I cited but had not yet added to the article. I suggest that you re-list so a fully educated consensus can form. Icewedge (talk) 02:51, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
Suspicion
Cirt, I suspect a user to be a sock of a bunch of users/socks you previously blocked. He or she has very similar intrests to User:Last king of Frisia and User:-The Bold Guy- (not just Pier Gerlofs Donia, but the creation of improbable and numerous redirects to it, including an interest in Hans Boskamp, posting to Jimbo's page, making similar statements on their user page[6] [7], and an interest in Touch the Clouds (edited by Mrlob, the bold guy, and this new editor). This new account wsa created ten days after the previous accounts were blocked. He is also editing unconstructively (in part), adding his name to a number of articles and creating a redirect from his name in main space to his user page. Redirecting Maphia Italya to Touch the Clouds is pure vandalism as well. IS this sufficient to block him, do you prefer a checkuser, or am I imagining things? Hi. I noticed you were looking for more input on this SSP case. Am I correct in understanding that the only editor left in question is User:Shrampes? How can I help? Is there any information not on the case thread that I should know? ~SunDragon34 (talk) 22:11, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
- Well, I've been looking at it...and I can't find a connection using my usual tactics, except that both Shrampes and HFCS/Wikipediatrix edited the Dianetics article, and that Shrampes started editing at about the same time that Wikipediatrix's editing tapered off. Although Shrampes did edit the HFCS article, s/he also edits a lot of other articles on complex molecules, like polyurethane, tetrachloroethylene, and polyfluorene. Honestly, I can't say that Shrampes is a sock of Wikipediatrix...if s/he is, then she's been incredibly careful about it. For now, I'd say to let Shrampes off the hook and wait until time tells us more. ~SunDragon34 (talk) 23:14, 5 December 2008 (UTC)

Then Tiptoety should have made sure not to change the block reason when he extended the block, nor put the {{open proxy}} on the page. Just because someone's using an IP abusively does not make it an open proxy. This is not the first time I've unblocked an IP after another admin decided that since someone was using an IP abusively it had to be an open proxy, only to have the actual test for open proxies come back negative following an unblock request on those grounds. We cannot afford to misuse or use an OP block in any way that could be seen as punitive or reckless, since that's the only grounds we have to block an IP indefinitely. It makes all of us look bad. It would be like someone without Checkuser claiming "Checkuser has proved you are so-and-so's sock" only to have an actual Checkuser come back as "unrelated".
Anyway, mild rant done. What's the evidence of abusive use of this IP? Not that I doubt you, I would just feel better about this situation if I knew what it was. Daniel Case (talk) 22:29, 6 December 2008 (UTC)

- I have not been involved in the date formatting changes, so my assumption was that ISO formatting (like 2008-12-11) could be left alone or rewritten. I prefer rewriting the dates because ISO formatting may not be clear to all readers (is 2008-06-05 June 5 or May 6? that sort of thing). Also, some articles will use different spelling approaches. For example, while Valkyrie is set in Germany, it is an American production. (I have not converted all the fields for that article; a little tedious to do a big one like that.) For a British production like Franklyn, however, I rewrote it differently. I am not sure if it is possible to rework these fields through template manipulation; I've been hoping to find a program that could translate ISO formatting into American date or British date formatting for a Wikipedia article. —Erik (talk • contrib) 18:50, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

Portal:Peru
I wanted to give you a heads up because of your important comments; I'm probably going to close Portal:Peru as a successful featured portal nomination in the next day or so. It still lacks a selected quote section, but I really think the editors have done a great job of addressing most of our comments and it is beyond the realm of required material under Wikipedia:Portal guidelines. It has also been over 16 weeks since it was nominated and I feel it is time to move on. I take full responsibility for the close. --Jh12 (talk) 19:26, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

Content drive page?
I saw from here that WP:AUS is doing a GA 200 drive? Is there a unified page about this somewhere that lists all the Australia GAs, or is Category:GA-Class Australia articles accurate that there are 179 so far? Also, does the parent cat include all the GAs listed in those subcats? If that is the case, that is an attainable goal, actually. Cirt (talk) 21:44, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I am going to collect evidence for the Scientology RFAR as an independent third party. I want to point out that I am not the wiki-police nor do I have any kind of official role.
On your statement you state that you want to "clear the air" and that you are trying to recall past attempts of dispute resolution.
To what extent are you involved with the Scientology dispute? Have you made any significant contribution to Scientology related topics? To what extent have you used admin tools?
-- Cat chi? 18:08, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for looking into this as an independent third party, I welcome your input into the Arbitration Case and will get back to your above queries soon. Cirt (talk) 22:26, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
- Hi again,
- At Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Cirt I am looking at an implied discussion between Durova and Jossi which was removed for "security reasons". Jossi believes his conduct on that RFA is the main reason why Durova finds him unsuitable. Durova defered me to you about this so I am inclined to ask you the nature of that issue. I do not want to know your personal information, I would however like to know what type of info was posted (was it your address, name, phone number etc) to get a better idea on how bad it was. Another thing is was that disagreement even related to Scientology?
- -- Cat chi? 07:51, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
- I appreciate your attempt to investigate this, but this is the type of sensitive issue that I would like to leave to the primary parties. Cirt (talk) 21:56, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
- Who exactly should I ask about this? While I understand the sensitive nature of the issue, I want to figure out the source of the dispute between you, Jossi and Durova. I won't be mediating it but I need to understand the underlying problem so that I can provide arbcom a sane analysis of its effects today. -- Cat chi? 22:43, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
- White Cat, I'm sure there are plenty of areas where you could help this arbitration case. And in many ways it's really helpful to have a neutral and uninvolved party look over the evidence. There's plenty of evidence on the page waiting to be parsed. Both Jossi and Cirt have expressed a reluctance to discuss this; they're not obligated to do so. Help With Editing
Thx for the welcome message. Maybe you can help me. I joined with the good intentions of righting serious misinformation about a guitarist named Glenn Tipton. The page said he plays with classical influences but he does not. Apart from using my ears and 20 years of being a pro guitarists, I cited official published material to back up my words. However, my revisions keep being reversed to the FALSE information.
I have asked for the page to be protected to no avail and someone keeps reverting my edits because they are apparently guilty of WP:NPOV, WP:NOR, WP:CITE, WP:RS and WP:AWW. The comical thing is that I am NOT guilty of this! But leaving up the current, FALSE page *IS* being guilty of NOT, CITE & RS is guilty of such! —Preceding unsigned comment added by NemesisRogue (talk • contribs) 21:02, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

Carroll Pickett/GA1
Thank you for your comments on Talk:Carroll Pickett/GA1. I do not know if this article will ever make it back to GA nomination, primarily due to Google- and primary- sourcing issues and the fact that the only interesting parts of his life are related to his work in the prison system and as an anti-death-penalty advocate, but I do plan on improving the article where I can. Your comments on criticisms is well-taken, but in my research I didn't find much in the way of criticizing him per se. The fact of the matter is, he's notable but not famous. Outside a book and movie tour earlier this year, his recent national press has been in specialized publications, not mainstream media. If his level of notability means there is unlikely to be criticism and unlikely to be more than token mentions of his life prior to then, does that mean it's impossible to meet the good article criteria #3 and 4? Also, you don't like links to Google archives for paper-form publications. I don't understand why this is a problem. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 03:05, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

I noticed you cleared my complaint about the article renaming by User:Monarchians. Doesn't someone need to change all those names back? It's creating tons of double directs. A few notes on assembling a DYK queue
Thanks for all your work assembling these queues but may I suggest that you review the list of "unwritten" rules for these? Among other things, they advise that each queue should be roughly half biographical hooks, roughly half U.S.-related hooks, and should end with a funny or quirky hook to "leave 'em laughing". I know this makes putting a well-balanced queue that much harder but it's how it's done, I'm told, for the best interests of the reader. - Dravecky (talk) 06:30, 31 December 2008 (UTC)

It seems like they decided to take anything related to portals off the main page, see Wikipedia:2008 main page redesign proposal. Google books
Hi Cirt
I'm curious about this change. You mentioned WP:COPYLINKS in your edit summary, but I'd be very surprised if Google Books were violating the copyright of Penguin Books or the author with their scan. Why do you think so?
Cheers, Amalthea 13:22, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for your kind inquiry. I suppose you are correct, and technically regarding the WP:COPYLINKS policy that I had cited in my edit summary the link might actually be okay, but it isn't necessarily best practice to link to an incomplete version of the text (I see that [18] links to a limited preview). Cirt (talk) 18:11, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
- I see. If you say that it isn't best practise, is it mentioned in the MoS somewhere? I thought that it's a very good idea, if we have the opportunity to link to an online version of a book, in particular with a sensitive topic like this. I think it only enhances the reference if it can easily be verified, and it doesn't matter for that whether it's a complete version of the book or not. --Amalthea 18:51, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
- Okay, I have thought this over and I have reconsidered my opinion on this, and I self reverted. I think it may be a good idea to have a wider community discussion on this issue in general at some point. Cirt (talk) 18:59, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
- Addendum: One of the most crucial things is if the article cites pages not accessible in the preview – if it does, the link is misleading. Cirt (talk) 19:02, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks, and I agree of course, a link would be misleading if the link target did't contain the fact that is quoted. Cheers, Amalthea 19:09, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

I was scrolling through the list and was interested in your article's title. Plus, I wanted to repay you back for helping me out with some image permissions at Wikimedia Commons. --Nehrams2020 (talk) 11:10, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
- Oh, of course this wasn't a scratch-my-back-I'll-scratch-yours situation. I can't go that far back in my watchlist, but I'm pretty sure you helped me out with OTRS permissions. I initially felt bad about only leaving the article on hold when I only found issues with the serial comma. However, I was glad I caught a few more issues. I actually remember the first time I heard of the phrase, it was some Australian teenager working at my local Blockbuster who kept using it. Multiple visits to the store embedded it in my brain and now I occasionally say it. It was really interesting to read about the origins. --Nehrams2020 (talk) 11:22, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

Pooktre AfD
Please have a second look at the Pooktre AfD [23]. The concensus was redirect, not delete. Flopsy's delete opinion was based on the author's (Blackash's) request for deletion, which was later struckthrough when Blackash changed their mind. Sinneed and 66.57...'s !votes were "driveby's" that did not consider the work being done at the Tree Shaping article or provide any reasoning for deletion instead of redirection. If you look at Rror's participation, you will find he initially wanted to delete, but later changed his mind to redirect after looking into the situation in more detail. Since the "vote" ended at 3 delete to 3 redirect, these factors clearly tilt to balance towards redirect. I leave you with a quote from Peridon's !vote, which sums up the situation perfectly:
- Redirect I've just looked at the arborsculpture article and the salient points of this seem to have been transferred. However, people will probably try to find Pooktre, so I feel a redirect might be in order.

The PTA Disbands - GA review
I'm still a bit unsure about Edna (Mrs. or Ms.) so have raised it at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject The Simpsons. There are at least two GAs referring to her as "Mrs." ('Round Springfield and Marge Gets a Job), though it's possible that these could be incorrect as well. Everything else looks fine, so if you're happy for the "Ms." to be removed altogether (i.e. "Edna Krabappel" or just "Krabappel") I'll happily pass the article now, otherwise I'll await further evidence. Cheers. --Jameboy (talk) 13:19, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

Old AfD
Hi. This article Crash Diet (song) puzzled me, because clicking on the AfD link takes one to an AfD which you closed "Delete" last September. I thought it must be a re-creation, but looking at the history it seems that what happened was: it was created as Crash Diet (Guns N' Roses song) on 20 Sep, and taken to AfD the same day; on 24 Sep you closed the Afd as "Delete"; but meanwhile the author had moved it to Crash Diet (song), so it never actually got deleted and has been hanging about since, still with its AfD notice on. Can you zap it now? it hasn't significantly changed. There are several more articles about unreleased GNR songs; I plan to AfD one as a test case and PROD the others, and this is a useful precedent. Hello Cirt
Hello Cirt - thank you for putting me right on the David Gaiman article....I admit (shamefully) that it was an act of vandalism on my part. I'm not normally given to such acts (in fact, I believe that my previous and subsequent contributions have been generally positive), but I'm afraid I get very irritated with articles that give credence to such nonsense as "scientology" (ditto "creationism", "flat-Earthers", "crystal-healing", "UFOs", "ghosts/werewolves/vampires - "supernatural in general"", and any other kind of pseudo-scientific ignorance, etc, etc).
I believe that Wikipedia should be a bastion of learning and enlightenment (as I've found it to be 99.9% of the times that I've visited it), rather than a haven for "dumbing-down", or, more disturbingly, a forum for the more "loony" fringes of society presenting their "stance" as fact.
In my view, such "hijacking" of Wikipedia to further the agenda of "cults" should be challenged in a robust manner.
Don't think ill of me! If nothing else, I'm a good proof-reader....!
(being a bit of a techno-ignoramus, I'm not sure of the significance of the four tildes, but I'll sign-off with them anyway...)

Hey Cirt - something needs to be done about this page. The I.P. using 68.35.XX.XXX is Valdes-Rodriguez, who has a COI in editing the article so heavily, especially given her spotty track record as I detailed on the Talk page. I don't know her - it was my attempt to figure out what was up, since the article popped up on my watch list due to my photo (now removed). Equally bad is that she has made a few enemies who are using the article to torture her. Thus, a war is going on between Valdes-Rodriguez and her enemies. I raised this at BLP before, but it's gotten to a point, looking at the edit history, that the entire article is probably pretty trashed, needs to be protected, and rescued. I don't want any part of it, because I received some bizarre e-mails from Alisa. --David Shankbone 03:16, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
- It is a complex, weird issue, and I don't really care enough about it to take it much further. I noticed you edited it recently, so I wanted to alert you that there is a continuing war going on with it. If I may speak frankly, the problem is that Valdes-Rodriguez disputes much of her history, including documented and sourced history. This is not that atypical, as everyone wants Wikipedia to be the ultimate settler of issues; however, WP:RS and WP:V tend to interfere with that. For instance, the letter that Alisa keeps removing is well-documented and well-known, and indeed made her quite notable for a time in Los Angeles journalism circles. The issues I document on the talk page are equally verifiable in Google's memory. I wrote After Ellen about the interview - they are an RS, and pretty well-regarded site for the lesbians. I was hoping you could take this further. I have some personal negative feelings because I feel a lot of her statements more than coincidentally get her attention or further her interests at the time she makes them, but then she later recants. That, and some of the freaky-deaky things she wrote me make it a situation I should stay out of, even raising it at ANI. But...it's a problem, the warring. I know you're awesome at NPOV, so I--haha--wanted to dump it on you! :-) --David Shankbone 05:44, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
- Oui-oui. It has been now removed from my watchlist. Thanks Cirt. --David Shankbone 05:53, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Thank You for the Welcome!
I appreciate the warm welcome, and even more, the links to the tips on how to be a quality Wikipedian.
It's clear to me from initial browsing that I could, and should, spend a serious amount of time just mastering the various tricks of the Wiki-trade. The Brian Wilson work was by far the most major topic heading I have attempted to date, as well as the boldest. I feel the state of the article merits further work, and look forward to tackling it in the next day or two. And while music is a major interest of mine re: Wikipedia, it is far from the only one.
Thanks again for your encouragement. Jusdafax (talk) 07:26, 4 February 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for that block. Now I just need to hope they don't keep going to go on at me (he and his friend keep going on at me). I do not reccomend he is unblocked under any circumstance - they are threating to get me blocked (and not be friends with me). Maybe can you explain the blocking policy to him and that he was blocked by a 3rd party as I am getting the blame for imposing the block. -- Punk Boi 8 talk 02:31, 5 February 2009 (UTC)
Your close
I will be putting your close here on deletion review. Doug removed a large comment that analyzed the national register's original taking the site on and proved that there was no notability through the national register. Anyone else who had experience with the national register denied any notability. There was no notability established from any of the sources. The keeps based on there being too much content for the Appomattox Court House National Park page are flat out wrong because these pages are less than 5k worth of original text, which would not increase it in any meaningful manner. The deletion was based on lack of notability. None of the keeps proved otherwise. Therefore, you should not have kept. You really should have seen this action before closing and know that there was impropriety. Ottava Rima (talk) 15:34, 5 February 2009 (UTC)
- I respectfully disagree with you, but if you wish to start a deletion review discussion, that is of course your prerogative. Please do let me know of the page of that DR discussion if you do so. Thank you, Cirt (talk) 23:48, 5 February 2009 (UTC)
- The deletion was based on lack of notability, and not one of the keeps proved that it was notable. Instead, information kept coming out that there wasn't any notability and that even the National Register did not consider them any more important than the fences, roads, ice houses, etc. Such a thing was even improperly removed by Doug. You didn't even put a closing statement on the page. Plus, it was proven that the page was filled with copyright problems, which many of the original keeps never had a chance to see. 4 definite removals of the page. 1 comment that says the pages need to be reworked. Doncram's comment saying that the lead shows that it lacks notability requirements. Xn4's keep flat out states "I'm not taking any position on the question of the individual notability of the articles", which shows that they are just voting and not actually participating in the AfD properly. He then goes on to suggest that the pages are too long to be merged. Seeing as how they only contained 4k worth of original content, this is flat out untrue. JJL's comment, "Comment if the main page was long I might agree, but there's plenty of space there. I don't see a reason for a breakout.", is basically a merge. Zagalejo sees them as "spin outs", but as the size comments point out, there is no reason to support this view. AlbertHerring and Elkman says the same thing. 8th Ohio Volunteer Infantry seems to suggest that as many articles should be there as possible regardless of notability. NVO's weak keep is on the idea that all of them were to be merged, not just the two law offices. This is not something part of the AfD, so the basis isn't correct. So, what looks like 10 to keep and 4 to merge, is actually 2 with any kind of real keep argument, 5 to merge, and 9 people who either aren't paying attention to the AfD, have an argument not based on the pages, or not expressing an opinion about the notability concern, which is the reason for the AfD and what needs to be overcome to not delete the page. Keep? Not even close if you read the comments, which a close requires you to do. Ottava Rima (talk)
- And if you read the articles, you would see that part of the notability comes from a book that lists the one office simply because the guy bought some nails from the local store and there was a note in the ledger. Ottava Rima (talk) 01:26, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
- I would rather not get into a drawn out back and forth and back and forth about this on my talk page. Thank you, Cirt (talk) 01:29, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
- Then reread the beginning of the deletion review process. The first step is to talk to the closing admin. As a closing admin, you have to participate in it, otherwise, it defeats the whole purpose of having consensus or having closing admin. Ottava Rima (talk) 01:31, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

- See my first response to you in this thread, above. Thanks, Cirt (talk) 01:34, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
- Sigh. Cirt, a DRV would be saying that the close was improper. Unwillingness to explain why you think that my large paragraph is wrong would only confirm that the close was improper. At least come up with some kind of argument or defense. Wikipedia is based on discussions. Ottava Rima (talk) 02:12, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
- I agree with the rationales already provided by many of those editors that commented Keep, and determined the consensus to be keep. Cirt (talk) 02:17, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
- So, you believe that the claims of lack of notability were adequately responded to? Ottava Rima (talk) 03:37, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
- You mean was every single back and forth and back and forth threaded response within the AfD to anyone that questioned the rationale of someone that commented Keep responded to adequately? That is not the point. I did notice that many of the threaded back and forth and back and forth responses went on several times, yes. I determined that the consensus of the discussion was keep, and the articles were kept. Cirt (talk) 03:47, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

RecentChangesCamp
I would like to politely request that you (temporarily at least) undelete RecentChangesCamp in the name of allowing time for proper debate. Bale Out
Hey, I'm Hunter, I did the article about Lucian Piane. I planned to do one to Bale Out as well, but I see you're way ahead of me! lol. Very, very nice job with the article! And thanks for adding to the Lucian Paine one as well! If you stumble across any other Paine-related info, please add it to the page or let me know about it. --Hunter Kahn (talk) 15:43, 4 February 2009 (UTC)
- Hey. I saw that you removed the Bale Out picture from the Piane article, but I think it's extremely appropriate for the Internet Remixes section and goes a long way in further illustrating an other-wise picture-less page right now. I'm not sure how strongly you object to keeping it there, but I'd like to add it back. But let me know if you have any strong objection; I'll wait to hear back from you before I add anything. --Hunter Kahn (talk) 02:11, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

Hello, I've moved the page to the main space (and I think I reverted some of your edits... Sorry, I didn't realize you were editing it at the same time I was). What do you think of the Content section, too much detail? Not enough? Too many random details? If you have some time, I would love to have some more reception info (there are several Newsbank reviews, but unfortunately I don't have access to it at the moment) and perhaps some background info. I also aded it to DYK, feel free to add a better hook if you can think of one. Thanks for your help, Scorpion0422 19:18, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
An odd query
Okay, so this might sound like a weird favour to ask, but bear with me! Would you mind having a look at Talk:Percy Shaw Jeffrey/GA1? I've tried to reply to some of the concerns raised, but I've basically buggered the lists up. Is there a proper way to format replies? Any improvement you could render to the review would be great, as I do intend to work through most (if not all) the points made. - Jarry1250 (t, c) 19:31, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Thanks
for being reasonable about the RecentChangesCamp deletion discussion. Maybe we can't agree about this, but you are right that we should attempt to be collegial in our disagreements. (And I hope you consider my point that sometimes there are other criteria available to establish notability than mentions by reliable sources.) -- llywrch (talk) 00:12, 7 February 2009 (UTC)

I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/R U Professional. ... for fixing my mess-up re closing the Portal:Opera peer review - I still have a lot to learn about the inner workings of WP. In my defence, I tried to follow the instructions, which appeared to be saying that anyone (i.e. me) could close a peer review if the portal under review had been nominated for Featured status. Could they perhaps be amplified into a step-by-step format such as is provided for nominators? Or, if closure should only be undertaken by people who know what they're doing (i.e. not me!), they should say so. Best wishes. --GuillaumeTell 11:53, 7 February 2009 (UTC)

Re: Shane Hurlbut
No, I wasn't aware of what you asked. Sorry about that; I probably wouldn't have used it if I'd known there was an open question about it. Anyway, I've been looking at the site for years and have found what's on it to be pretty accurate (the guy who runs it does accept additions and corrections, however, which could call the info into question). I'm not sure what to do now. If you want to remove it and the info, or put up a "cite?" tag or something next to it, that's fine, I guess.
I think you did a great job creating the article, by the way. - DoubleCross (talk) 00:28, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Alternative society
Hey Cirt, I see you deleted the article "alternative society". Is it possible to retain the text I made up prior to its deletion ? I am looking for following text: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Alternative_society&oldid=219074498
Aldough the article has been found useless at Wikipedia, it may still be used at Appropedia (i'll consult others first there offcourse) in a modified form. Hope that some form is still existent of the article I wrote (put in allot of hours here). I found a older version of the article at http://www.infoshop.org/wiki/Alternative_society, yet it isn't quite the same (altered allot before it was removed)

Is the NPOV even appropriate either? What information is presented in a bias manner? I've acknowledged on the talk page that there is some info that is erroneously presented more as "fact of life" than "crew statement", but that's not a POV bias, at least not as far as NPOV covers. BIGNOLE (Contact me) 01:50, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
- I think my problem is that Darcy "retagged" the page as NPOV violation, because you removed the advert, but never came back to the talk page to clarify why he switched from the page violating Advert to NPOV (which to me is virtually the same thing), or bother to wait and respond to any adjustments made to the page. Based on his contribs, he retagged the page and then left Wikipedia. It seemed more like a retaliation action for someone other than myself removing the advert tag, and no one agreeing with him that an interview with a writer about what the writer decided to cover in his script is an unreliable source. I know I should assume good faith, but that's just poor Wikietiquette right there. BIGNOLE (Contact me) 12:19, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
- I'm going to give him a couple of days to come back and see if he still feels the same way given the amendments to the article while he was away. It isn't a terrible concern at the moment because the article isn't going up for review any time soon. BIGNOLE (Contact me) 21:40, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

Opera Portal redux
Hi Cirt, I'm sorry that more members of the OP haven't seemed to listen to or reflect on what you've said re the portal. I happen to agree with most of what you've said about and done for the portal (apart from a few aesthetic points) and have just said so under Main page of a WikiProject? Or Portal about the topic "Opera" ?. But I fear I seem to be lone voice crying in the wilderness. I'm probably going to back away from the "discussion" too and let the chips fall where they may. I do have some prose nitpicks, one that I especially wish you would change. The use of the word "hit" for the book reaching the bestseller lists. You used this in a couple of places. I think this is jargon or slang, and not encyclopedic wording.

Vandalism of St. Thomas Aquinas High School (Overland Park, Kansas)
Just a heads-up on why I requested a block on 165.134.208.102. There has been repeated vandalism of St. Thomas Aquinas High School (Overland Park, Kansas), and it's always the same edit: adding a nonsense entry under the Notable Alumni section for "James Petersen". If you look at the page history, there are two or three different IP addresses making these edits, so I suspect that it's the same party each time. They might be trying to avoid blocking by using different IP addresses and spreading the edits out over time.
Maybe it would make sense to put some kind of partial block on the page instead of the user; I'm not sure how that works (I'm pretty new to editing WP). Either way, I'll keep an eye on St. Thomas Aquinas High School (Overland Park, Kansas) and submit the IP for blocking if (more like when) it happens again.
Thanks. --Gotophilk (talk) 19:18, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for giving a justification for your reverts. I don't really agree with your two-word rationale, but it is better to have one. On the other hand, you shouldn't assume the same person is constantly trying to bring up a subject; the edit logs don't support this and you just seem to handwave the reason you revert stuff. --Argav ۞ 22:02, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

OTRS questions
Hi Cirt, I have an OTRS question for you if you have the time. There is a photo for the article Plunketts Creek Bridge No. 3 which is on Commons here. A permission email was sent about 11.5 hours ago by Kara Russell of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation to photosubmission@wikimedia.org - her email address is her first initial and last name (no space), followed by the @ and state dot pa dot us . The article is waiting at FAC for the OTRS ticket permission to be entered (all supports, no opposes). I am not sure how long it takes for all of this - Raul654 tried to resolve this last week, but there was a typo in the email address we sent her and the email never got there. Now it has been sent again. If you can't do this for any reason, could you please point me to someone who can? Thanks in advance, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 02:40, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

Portal:Opera - Question
Hi Cirt, I've updated the page with March anniversaries [25]. Does it automatically appear in the "In this month" section on March 1st? Or do I have to do it by hand? We're still discussing the portal in general (it's currently in your version, thank goodness), but I hope to get back to you with more queries about the way forward later. Also thanks for those models of possible project page formats. The OP project page could use an overhaul sometime in the future. But I'm not even going to propose it until all the dust settles on the latest kerfuffle. Sigh... Best, Voceditenore (talk) 10:52, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

Deletion of WeeChat
Hi,
I just see you have deleted WeeChat article on wikipedia (english version). First I'm not sure I'm in good location to talk about that, if not, please let me know where I should do it.
I see that in comments for deletion: "I can't find any reliable sources that show notability.". WeeChat development is very active (even if there's no release since end of 2007), as you can see on dev blog, wiki page or git repository (commits frequency):
- Dev blog: http://dev.weechat.org/
- Infos about devel: http://wiki.flashtux.org/wiki/WeeChat_0.2.7
- Git repository: http://git.savannah.gnu.org/gitweb/?p=weechat.git
Main website is not updated frequently, I don't have enough free time, I'm focusing on WeeChat development.
Moreover, there's wikipedia page for WeeChat in french, spanish and italiano. Why not english?
Thank you.
Best regards.

Wikipedia offers many user talk templates to warn users about possible violations of vandalism ( Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to vandalize Wikipedia, you will be blocked from editing. ), the three-revert rule ( You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24 hour period. Additionally, users who perform a large number of reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring, even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing. Please do not repeatedly revert edits, but use the talk page to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. If necessary, pursue dispute resolution. ), and other policies and guidelines. You should use these templates carefully.
These templates serve to explain the respective rule to new editors. When novice editors break rules, it is quite possible that they are unaware of it, and educating them is helpful. On the other hand, most editors who have been around for a while are aware of these rules. If you believe that they have broken (or are about to break) one, it is frequently the result of some disagreement over the interpretation of the rule, or temporarily heated tempers. In such situations, sticking to "did you know we had a rule against this" mentality tends to be counterproductive in resolving the issue, as it can be misconstrued as being patronising and uncivil.
Template warnings are very generic, and sometimes out of date. Sometimes a template says never to do something which is nevertheless allowed in certain circumstances. Sometimes Wikipedia has multiple rules which are contradictory. If a rules violation is not clear-cut, an amicable resolution to the problem is going to require a human explanation, not an automated template.
A personal message tends to work better in these situations. If you have a question, why not ask the experienced user your question? You may begin a dialogue that will prove much more effective than a template. This is especially true when you find the urge to place multiple copies of the same template on a user's talk page. Doing so without an explanation is almost never a good idea. Instead, why not combine the multiple warnings into a single personalized note?
Note, however, that templating at all — to regulars or newcomers — may be taken as rude by being impersonal (biting the newbies). No one likes to feel they are being bureaucratically processed. Writing what the template says in your own words, with reference to the particular situation, is more likely to communicate well if the editor is amenable to reason. Failing that, you can append a personal message immediately after the template. Are you ready for IPv6? (talk) 21:52, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

I am trying to recreate the page for David Choi. His page has been deleted several times for a few different reasons. ONe being that the page was blatant advertising. Another because the page didn't have enough sources to back of the information and the facts were thought to be false. Anoth time it was deleted because it was felt he was not a person of value to be placed on the wiki. I have reasearched him and put together alot of facts regarding him. As far as his worth, I think I have put enough things and sources to back them up to prove that. I wanted to message you because since you are one of the people who has deleted his page in the past I was hoping that you might find time to look over the page and see that it is accurate, and well written. This is also my first Wiki page and I read the rules, and formatting information over MANY times before creating the page. Please feel free to make me aware of any issues with the page, as I would like to adhear to all of the rules of the site, while being able share information about this artist. When I created the page I did not capatolize the last name. When I went to move it I noticed the long history of deletion and the fact that the David Choi page was blocked. I do not wish to step on any toes in this situation but I am new to WP and do not know the proper procedures for unblocking a page. If my newly created page is even worthy of being left up. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am leaving this message for everyone on the deletion log of the page, not for redundancy but I do not wish to offend/upset anyone who feels this page should have been deleted in the past. Thanks, Chip MileHighCFI (talk) 01:19, 13 March 2009 (UTC)

With regard to this, I locked the page hoping they would discuss, since there is nothing on the talk page. You then blocked one of the editors but not the other, and now the non-blocked editor wants the other version restored. Seems like m:Wrong Version to me, but I have to go; can you look into this? Gimmetrow 17:38, 17 March 2009 (UTC)
- Hmm, perhaps Gimmetrow can state why it is appropriate to remove sources without discussion? and if Gimmetrow had researched adequately, he/she would have seen that this is not the first time that user has been blocked for removing content without discussion. Nor is it the first time that the blocked user has been asked to state why they are removing the content, nor am I the only user who is continuously reverting the blocked users edits. How convenient to quote m:Wrong Version, an answer to your stance on anything can be found in wiki essays! My point is that a sourced page is clearly better than an unsourced page, and that was the point I was trying to make about the version of the page that Gimmetrow protected. If Gimmetrow has any success in understanding the blocked user's motives, then brilliant, because I and various other users have got no where with that so far.GunGagdinMoan 18:17, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

Request for Advice about Posting on Portal Page
Although I have had my Wikipedia account for a long time with great aspirations of participating, I haven't actually posted a comment before and was hoping to get some advice regarding a particular mess I witnessed in the Criminal Justice portal.
As one of the featured portals at Wikipedia, the quality of it's content should be reviewed. The first stub from the Criminal Justice page is not only full of error, it is pedantic in scope. The grammar is horrendous and the content is worse.
I know that it is inappropriate to post a comment regarding the stub on the portal page, but shouldn't the portal page be more selective in its stubbed content?
I will post my comments on the Criminal Justice page, but I can't help but be embarrassed by the idea that this is a featured portal when the quality is among the worst pages I have seen on Wikipedia. And to add insult to injury, the topic, "criminal justice" is intrinsically bound to the use of specific vernacular and nomenclature. The weight of word choice in the Criminal Justice System is often of more importance than the relative guilt or innocence or those charged. If this article were a motion in court, the defendant would likely be sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole.
I will post explicit (less emotionally driven) examples of grammar errors on the criminal justice page.
I was hoping to get some feedback from you (having read some of your other posts) about my upcoming posts to make sure that I am participating correctly.
Thanks in advance for your help and/or guidance if possible.

Question on protection
I noticed that you've semi-protected Chihuahua, Chihuahua for three days for excessive vandalism. I was in the process of declining the request for protection on WP:RPP as the vandalism was only by a single IP, which had been blocked for three hours immediately before the request for protection was granted. As such, I don't think semi-protection was necessary. I've been involved in protecting pages before, but have virtually no experience of WP:RPP, so am wondering if my judgement would have been correct? Nev1 (talk) 18:21, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
- Ok, I just thought that dealing with the IP editor would be more effective, and while a belt and braces approach will work, good faith IP editors may be penalised unnecessarily. Nev1 (talk) 18:43, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
- Seems fair, hopefully the IP editor will have got bored by then. Nev1 (talk) 18:45, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

- Would you be willing to userfy these? It seems I was the only one arguing to keep, but I really do think there is salvageable content here, especially in the Metal Gear list, that could be improved to the quality of the List of voice actors in the Grand Theft Auto series, or at least to the quality of the List of voice actors in the Crash Bandicoot series. South Park
No worries, there are no hard feelings. I respect your desire for better sourcing for the DVDs, and I hope that we can all find them (I've been searching for them for Smallville, and there generally isn't a lot of "press releases" for region 2 and 4 like there is for region 1 stuff). BIGNOLE (Contact me) 13:49, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
- Like I said, there are no hard feelings. In the least, this has sparked editor(s) (unfortunately, it appears to be the work of Hunter Kahn primarily) to start fixing up those South Park articles. Anyway, I'm sure we'll work more collaboratively in the future - this was just a heated topic already, before you or I ever stepped into the mix. :D BIGNOLE (Contact me) 14:13, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

Tom Cruise Biography
It is not appropriate to include controversial, unsourced statements (e.g. accusing people of book censorship) without current sources. Wiki policy states false statements should be removed immediately. I am disturbed your response to the removal of false info is to immediately revert an to contact me privately to give me a warning. As a longtime editor/admin this is not appropriate editor behavior. If you can find a current source stating your claim is true, by all means add it.

could you please help out?
I am currently a graduate student, working on a semester project regarding Wikipedia. I was hoping you would be able to privately answer a few questions in reference to your personal experience with Wikipedia in order for me to get your view on the website. The questions are on my user page, and if you could answer in them in word and e-mail them to the address shown that would be really helpful. Your anonymity is assured, and any personal information you give will never be used outside of this questionnaire. Thank you for your time.Curesearcher (talk) 02:53, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
I am a graduate student with the University of Colorado Boulder. The project has been approved through my professor, and I am selecting candidates from discussion boards who are comfortable enough with Wikipedia to discuss with other members of the community. I am attempting to get a cross section of experience through this process by choosing people who have varrying levels of experience. Curesearcher (talk) 03:04, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
I wasn't intending to "spam" talk pages, although I know that is how it came across (actually that was what it was). I assumed that if people had a problem with my approch, they could simply delete the comment and ignore me from then on...I am still not sure why people have such a problem with me, or why it started out as simple questioning and then suddenly turned once the question of my validity was raised not due to the information I presented (which everyone believes is valid to my knowladge), but due to simple spelling errors. if you could help me out here I would appriciate it. - I didn't see that you responded to my comment otherwise I would have responded sooner...but as you can see I though that having the comments stuck was appropriate as well. there is no way that this interaction can't color your opinion of me, however I hope that I have repaired the damage that I have caused you. feel free to send anyone who brings this up my way, and I will be sure to let them know that I believe your actions were consistent with what I would expected...demanded of an administrator. I did engage in inconsistent behavior, and you were just being a good editor trying to figure out why.Curesearcher (talk) 02:48, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

Hiya,
I see that you blocked user:TLCbass; they've been on IRC help asking about why etc, and I've tr ied hard to explain several things - see User_talk:TLCbass.
It would be helpful if you could add a little bit, giving the reason for the block - I then hope they'll read that stuff I've given them, and hopefully will cooperate with discussion prior to editing in the future.

Userify Jordan Stratford?
Hi, is it possible to get the deleted JordanStratford page userified under my account? -- Timbomb (talk) 01:05, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks Cirt. It won't end up back in the main namespace unless the topic gets more notable. -- Timbomb (talk) 03:17, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
- Is it a problem if I do? The concern's that non-notable pages don't show up in searches isn't it? Is there any harm in leaving it in my user space? -- Timbomb (talk) 03:37, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
- Well, he's a new author. I gather he has several books planned. The topic's getting a certain amount of press. I'll hang on to it for a while and if nothing new appears, I'll ditch it. It's not like the topic's an 18th century building or something. Thanks for your help. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Timbomb (talk • contribs) 13:08, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

Heath Ledger
Hi and thanks for your comment about the article. I won't start to comment about editors who randomly nominate articles that are quite good that they come across and then if it passes, post on their user page that they were involved in a GA or FA. I really won't. I don't think anyone disagrees that at some point in the near future, the article might be ready for GA review, but I was a little perplexed when an editor who has never worked on the article just suddenly nominated it for GAR without even mentioning it on the talk page. There was discussion before and certainly that is a goal, but because of how eventful the last year or so has been regarding Ledger, the article probably still has too much recent content that will need to be condensed and reconsidered, both in order to bring down the size of the article and to avoid undue weight. I think most of the regular editors agree that will be done, but sometimes it is best to wait a bit to see what emerges as more relevant. I asked that the nomination be withdrawn at this time just because of that reason. It's almost ready but not quite and until those elements emerge, it shouldn't be put through a GAR. Thanks again. G&S Portal
Hello, Cirt. We have just been working on the Richard Temple (opera singer) article, and it should now be added to the bios featured on the portal. Would you kindly add it? Thanks for helping us! Best regards, -- Ssilvers (talk) 19:04, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
- Yes will add it soon - thanks so much for your help with the portal! Cirt (talk) 20:35, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
- Done. Cirt (talk) 21:22, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
The technically non-proficient thank you! BTW, as I understand it, you can't get to our portal directly from the Arts portals list. Is that as it should be, or should it be easier to find us? I don't know much about portals, but it seems like ours is not too bad, and it should be fairly easy to find, even though we're a very small project. I leave it to your expertise whether all is OK, or whether something should be different. Best regards! -- Ssilvers (talk) 22:53, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
- Oh, for what it's worth, and I'm not even sure that you're looking for opinions on this, I would vote that DYK sections are not that important, because they tend to be collections of trivia and don't usually give a very good idea about the article that they are pulled from; plus, it is pure chance that an article will get a DYK; many of the best articles never had DYKs, and many articles with DYKs are only "start" class articles. I'd rather steer readers to our B-class or better articles, or even present a list of the G&S operas instead. We also have a template at the bottom of our core articles ({{Gilbert and Sullivan}}) that would really help people navigate around our articles very well. All the best, -- Ssilvers (talk) 23:01, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
OK, thanks. No problem, just giving you some feedback. All the best! -- Ssilvers (talk) 23:22, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
