ballet teamwork

Thank you for quality articles about ballet and its people, such as Polyphonia, Craig Hall (dancer), Taylor Stanley, Alicia Graf Mack, Concerto (ballet) and The Times Are Racing, for polishing and updating other dancers' articles in teamwork, - you are an awesome Wikipedian!

You are recipient no. 2442 of Precious, a prize of QAI. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:38, 11 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • @Gerda Arendt: thank you! Wiki's coverage of 21st-century ballet is pretty bad, and there are a bunch of horrible New York City Ballet related articles made between 2008 and 2011, so I've been slowly working on them. I created six articles in the past two days (Calvin Royal III, Cassandra Trenary, Aran Bell, Joo Won Ahn, Thomas Forster (dancer) and Francesco Gabriele Frola) and just rewrote an existing one (Élégie (ballet)), feel free to give some thoughts! Corachow (talk) 18:43, 12 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thank you very much for all this. I just returned from a hike, and today went like this: I wanted to focus on an article started by a friend about a man, a musicologist. Instead, another article by the same friend, about a woman singer, was sent to draft, and I worked hard to find references. She's back to article space. Then I saw that another woman singer has died, and the same friend started her article today, so I was busy again to make it more substantial, now that the world is interested. Then I noticed that an article about another woman singer was begun (by the same friend) a week ago, so needs to go to DYK today which is not yet done. I'm all for teamwork, but often are just too busy, unplanned ;) - For the articles, see my user page, in case of interest. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:49, 12 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi Corachow, I hope you are doing really fine. I wanted to put you on notice about my sandbox. I am working with English sources on Figo Chan Ho-wun, I feel it's important to have the vice-convener of the CHRF done here. If you wish to contribute feel free you that understand Chinese. You are completely invited ha ha. Cheers. --CoryGlee (talk) 20:34, 22 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi CoryGlee, how are you? I did a quick search on Figo Chan in Chinese-language sources and it seems like there aren't much about him beyond reports about his arrests and him commenting on behalf of CHRF. He still doesn't have an article on Chinese Wiki. I'm currently quite busy with both my life outside of Wiki and other articles I'm working on, and it will probably stay that way for a while, but just ping me whenever you want to work on something that requires Chinese-language sources, and I'll try my best to help you! Thank you so much!, I am doing fine and also very busy with health issues, mental ones, LOL I am mad. Nah, not really, same as usual so I come here to Wikipedia to relax and I love Hong Kong without opining because I am not a Hongkonger. :-) As I said, you're welcome. Revert on McRae and Hayward

edit

Please explain the reasons for your reverts. Charlesjsharp (talk) 11:05, 1 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

The original statement is far more objective and none of the sources stated the two, as you wrote, “ withdrew at short notice from sold out performances with the Royal Ballet at the Royal Opera House to join the production.” Corachow (talk) 11:40, 1 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
It is factually correct. See Hayward's tweet [1]. The tweet in 2 November, the date that ROH announced the cast changes on their website. The tickets for a March performance went on sale and sold out 23 October. McRae admitted he was withdrawing from performances on 8 November. Please do your homework before reverting good faith edits. Why did you not ask for these sources which you may now add to the articles. Charlesjsharp (talk) 19:39, 1 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
Again, none of the sources stated it’s sold out. “Temporary absence” apply to withdrawing from performances. You did not attach any Tweet, and did not provide any source to support the tickets sold out part and the dates. Corachow (talk) 20:07, 1 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
I propose the following wording

Stephen McRae was advertised as starring in 2019 performances of Don Quixote with the Royal Ballet. Tickets went on sale on 23 October 2018. On 8 November 2018, The Royal Opera House announced he had withdrawn from the to film Cats instead. McRae wrote on Instagram, ‘ ‘I will be withdrawing from a few performances at the Royal Opera House’. [2]

Francesca Hayward was advertised as a Principal Dancer in the Fall and Winter 2018/19 Royal Ballet seasons at the Royal Opera House. Tickets went on sale on 23 October 2018.. On 2 November 2018, Francesca Hayward announced she had withdrawn from the to film Cats instead. She wrote on Instagram, ‘I really am very sorry to anyone who has bought tickets to see me in upcoming performances’. [3] Charlesjsharp (talk) 15:39, 12 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

You still don’t have any source directly stating what you wrote. We can’t put that on the pages. The best we can do is something along the lines of “he/she took temporary absence from the company”, which indicated that they withdrew performances, and it’s in the current version. Corachow (talk) 15:47, 12 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
I don't understand - no source? What could be more of a source than the words of the people themselves? I am not proposing the wording you reverted. I am proposing the factual words above. "Temporary absence" implies they had no alternative. It is is your POV, not neutral. I am happy to put this to an independent decison by an admin. Charlesjsharp (talk) 22:45, 12 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
You don’t have sources for the specific dates. Every source regarding the matter use wordings similar to “temporary absence” so I don’t see how’s that a POV problem. If you insist on mentioning they withdraw from shows I’ll settle with something like “temporary absence from the company including withdrawal from performances.” Corachow (talk) 22:54, 12 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
I have an email from the Royal Opera House Customer Services Manager as source for the dates and withdrawal. How should I reference this please? Charlesjsharp (talk) 13:57, 14 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
A private email cannot be used as a reference. Corachow (talk) 13:58, 14 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
Ok, direct quote from Instagram, fully sourced

On 8 November 2018, McCrae announced that he was joining the cast of the film adaptation of ‘CATS’, writing ‘this does mean that I will be withdrawing from a few performances at the Royal Opera House over the next few months’. [4] Charlesjsharp (talk) 20:54, 14 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

This only proves they took a time off from the company for several months, which again, is already in the current articles. Corachow (talk) 20:56, 14 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
What do you mean? It proves they withdrew from performances - not the same as taking time off. Charlesjsharp (talk) 17:01, 15 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
The main job of a Royal Ballet dancer is to perform, I think anyone can understand that if someone take a leave of absence from a dance company they are not performing. Just put “took temporary absence and withdrew from some performances” if you insist, as it’s on the Royal Opera House press release. If someone else revert it I won’t do anything. Unbelievable, the cute facts you turn up! - Could you perhaps check out The Rite of Spring - from the perspective of someone who knows ballet - because it will be TFA tomorrow? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:41, 5 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Just great! What do you think of boldly using File:Le Sacre du Printemps (Pina Bausch Tanztheater, Wuppertal).jpg, says much more than "panting" ;) - I saw it in 1987, quite unforgettable. The performance was titled "Frühlingsopfer" which is German for the French title, Opfer first being Sacrifice, not Sacred. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:12, 5 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Gerda Arendt: When the Bausch version was performed in England in 2017, the title Le Sacre du printemps was used, not The Rite of Spring. I found File:CPinaBausch MAE 339978-9.tif, which was taken from a double bill performance in Barcelona. In my opinion, this one seems more powerful, the other one was probably taken during a curtain call. I might create a separate article for the Bausch version at some point. Corachow (talk) 09:25, 5 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Gerda Arendt: That sounds great! Corachow (talk) 15:30, 5 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
I added it, also moved some pics more to context, made some larger, and used the French title a few time times when the English contradicts what a pic shows, and when dealing with Paris. I suggest to write more of the pictured New York Times review in the body, but feel I was almost too bold already, for an article that got Andy and me the label "battleground" ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:10, 5 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Gerda Arendt: I don't think it's necessary. There are enough negative comments about the premiere, any the NYT report mainly quoted a Le Figaro journalist, and there's a quote from someone else at Le Figaro. Corachow (talk) 23:08, 5 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hello back! I need your advice!

edit

Hello Corachow! My uttermost pleasure in greeting you again. I hope you're doing very OK. I am here to ask for your advice. There are currently 39 people listed in Category:Persons charged under the Hong Kong national security law. I saw that Category:Prisoners and detainees of Hong Kong was almost empty. So I added some, such as Alexandra Wong, Leung Kwok-hung, Jimmy Sham, Ivan Lam and Lester Shum. Do you think the rest of the 39 should also be categorized there? Best regards! --CoryGlee (talk) 16:58, 6 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

@CoryGlee: In my opinion, if someone is charged under the law and is either detained or imprisoned (which is most of them), the prisoners and detainees category can be used. Also, Alexandra Wong was never detained in Hong Kong, so the category does not apply to her. I barely edit anything Hong Kong-related now so someone more familiar with the topic might give you a better answer. Corachow (talk) 17:18, 6 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for many interesting people! - Raimund Hoghe died, the dramaturge and chronicler of Pina Bausch's Tanztheater. Had no article here until yesterday, - and I find so far nothing about early life. Any help welcome! Let's make short edits to avoid edit conflicts. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:49, 16 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Gerda Arendt: I didn't find much either. As far as I'm aware, he was not well-known in the English-speaking dance world, so the only things I can find are from reviews of his American performances. I guess at this point there are more sources about him in German. I reckon a New York Times obituary may help, but from my observations, unless the deceased is very famous, it takes days for NYT to publish one. Corachow (talk) 09:29, 16 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thank you, you helped a lot, especially breaking that - as I saw only today - the German article which I followed was word for word from his personal website, so the translation in danger of being copyvio. Relief! - I found one better obit in German and hope for more. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:49, 16 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
You could do me on or two favours ;) - write more lead, because I'm a bit short on vocabulary for expressing how extraordinary his work is on the background of the physical condition he was born with, and/or support on WP:ITNN. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:16, 17 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thank you! Next wish: Tanztheater is a sad stub ... --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:43, 18 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
I'm not very familiar with the genre, (I don't get to these works very often) and I had never worked on a genre article beyond cleanups, but I'll see what I can do. I'm planning to start an article for Bausch's Le sacre du printemps. It is one of the most famous versions, and it won't be the first version with a separate article (The Rite of Spring (MacMillan)). And if you can, I also need some help with another sad stub Romeo and Juliet (Cranko), probably one of the most famous ballets danced by Stuttgart Ballet, and choreographed by John Cranko, who also made Onegin. Corachow (talk) 11:08, 18 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
I'll do what I can, from the pov of someone who loves watching dance and ballet, but without knowledge. Having seen Frühlingsopfer may help, even if decades ago. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:16, 18 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thank you, I'll start with the Bausch once I complete what I'm working on right now. Corachow (talk) 11:33, 18 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for the ballet after Hindemith! - Today: Thomas Fritsch, the German character voice of Diego in Ice Age --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:48, 24 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the flowers! I researched Bausch's Le sacre du printemps, but found less than I expected, so I might start with the Cranko first, though I'm still working on a few things. Corachow (talk) 21:52, 24 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
All fine, - would you have a bit of time in between to look at Carla Fracci? I believe that we could make the article fit for the Main page, and you have much more expertise in the ballet part. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:14, 27 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
Heard about her passing a few hours ago. I think it requires more work than it seems, will do what I can at this point. Corachow (talk) 15:25, 27 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
If you know anyone who can help sort through the Italian sources, please let me know. I expect more obituaries in English later but I guess the Italian media have more. Corachow (talk) 16:24, 27 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
I asked LouisAlain, but as long as the template is up, we can't expect others to help ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:40, 27 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Tweaked a few things there. Do you mind clarifying what this sentence? Hi Corachow, I have been seeing your work since last year and I have to say, I've been so impressed by your article creations. I just wanted to let you know that having the Autopatrolled user-right would benefit you. You are a prolific content creator and you make sure to clean articles. This user-right would allow your articles to be automatically marked as "patrolled" or "reviewed", and would no longer be added to the new pages queue. You can request the permission at WP:PERM/A. Thanks for all the DYK reviews that you have done for me so far, and keep up the good work. :) --Ashleyyoursmile! 07:07, 26 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Autopatrolled granted

edit

Hi Corachow, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the "autopatrolled" permission to your account, as you have created numerous, valid articles. This feature will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to reduce the workload on new page patrollers. For more information on the autopatrolled right, see Wikipedia:Autopatrolled. However, you should consider adding relevant wikiproject talk-page templates, stub-tags and categories to new articles that you create if you aren't already in the habit of doing so, since your articles will no longer be systematically checked by other editors (User:Evad37/rater and User:SD0001/StubSorter.js are useful scripts which can help). Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! TonyBallioni (talk) 03:22, 30 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Think "intensives" should be clarified

edit

Corachow noticed you reverted my explanation of what intensives are on Indiana Woodward. I really think the article needs that, as most Wikipedia readers won't know, and knowing makes the article more useful and educational, and gives a better picture of Woodward's life. Greg Dahlen (talk) 15:58, 30 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Greg Dahlen: I changed it to 'intensive trainings'. I think this is self explanatory enough. A lot of professional ballet dancers attended intensives in their teenage years and I don't think every Wikipedia article about ballet dancers needs an explanation about intensives. Corachow (talk) 16:55, 30 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Corachow: well the source says "intensives." I think it should be changed back to intensives and explained. I think it will be quite useful for the reader who doesn't know much about dance education. I've read many dance articles on Wikipedia and never seen intensives mentioned before, so it won't require explanation on other dance articles.
An alternative would be to explain intensives on some other Wikipedia article, such as Dance education, then link the use of intensives in Indiana's article to the explanation of intensives elsewhere in Wikipedia. I've been looking and can't find a good article/place to put an explanation. If you agree that this would be a good approach, perhaps you can find a good place? Greg Dahlen (talk) 18:54, 31 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Greg Dahlen: 'Intensive' and 'intensive training' means the exact same thing, so I don't think it has to be the exact wording from the source. Under most circumstances, it also means summer programme, but the source here did not mention it so I did not mention summer, but I usually mention it's a summer programme in other dancers' articles. (Actually, as far as I'm aware, the most common wording is "summer intensives")
I should clarify that by "a lot of professional ballet dancers attended intensives in their teenage years", I mean the ones active this century. As someone who edits a lot of ballet dancer articles, I usually only mention summer intensives if it is at somewhere important or somewhere the subject of the article started attending full-time afterwards. In Woodward's case, the ones she attended are very prestigious.
I think explaining intensives on dance education is a better idea. There are a lot of good sources about this on various dance publications such as Dance Magazine and Pointe. Corachow (talk) 20:03, 31 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Corachow: how/where would you do it on Dance education? To me it seems too specific for Dance education, and also too specific for Classical ballet#Training. I can't find what I think is a good place for it. I asked on Teahouse https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Teahouse#Where_might_be_a_good_place_to_put_information_about_dance_intensives?

If you have a vision for where it should go on Dance education, please do it. I'd enjoy reading it. I know you said you have other things going on. Greg Dahlen (talk) 14:39, 1 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Greg Dahlen: I'd say at Dance education#Professional dance education, and not on Classical ballet#Training, but we'll see whether someone else on Teahouse has a better idea. Corachow (talk) 14:52, 1 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Corachow: As it turned out I added three paragraphs at the bottom of Dance education#Professional dance education about different categories of classes. Do you think they're okay? Do you know of any other categories of kinds of classes?

If you notice, I did some writing there about what constitutes a "regular class" in dance. Do you like my writing there? Can you see any improvements to add or additional information?

I would suppose if you're happy with my writing there I should bring back the mention of intensives in the Indiana Woodward article and link it to the explanation of intensives in Dance education? Greg Dahlen (talk) 17:37, 8 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Greg Dahlen: Thank you. I don't think the paragraph about "regular classes" is accurate. In professional trainings (at least in Europe and some elite American schools), they tend to last throughout a school year. The term "full-time training" or "year-round training" might be more accurate. Also, "dance intensives" are usually held in the summer, hence why it is also referred as "summer intensives." "Dance workshops" is relatively unimportant in this context. I'd suggest creating a redirect for dance intensives to this section. Corachow (talk) 18:26, 8 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Vogue Taiwan Ballet videos

edit

I noticed you noticed my addition of the image to Kay Mazzo! Glad you liked it! However, can you do me a resulting favor or two?

  1. Can you watch the Vogue ballet video it came from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u43gLF9cx54 and figure out what the date of it is? See, it's marked December 10, 2020, but I'm almost sure it's a few years earlier, because besides Kay Mazzo, it also includes Peter Martins, who ... umm ... retired ... in January 2018, if our article about him is correct. So I'm fairly sure it's from before then. But I'd like to know more exactly. Another one with the same problem is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gUf4xAV5Zro which I got the recent image of Lourdes Lopez from.
  2. In fact, if you're interested, there seems to be an entire series of these Creative Commons Attribution licensed Vogue Taiwan ballet videos on YouTube that could have some great images of ballet people we have articles about. I'm not much of a ballet fan, and have just skimmed, so probably missed a number of them. If you find some that we should grab images from, you can do so, or tell me and I will. --GRuban (talk) 23:08, 12 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
@GRuban: I think the Vogue Taiwan video is a re-upload of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=saF5-92Uivs from 2014. The Lopez one is from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hq9CHV2zzIE in 2015. I don't plan on uploading photos myself since I had messed that up a few times before but I'm happy to go through videos on Vogue Taiwan to find anything that was missed. Corachow (talk) 23:38, 12 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
Excellent! Yes, please. The key bit is the "License Creative Commons Attribution license (reuse allowed)" normally under the "SHOW MORE" link in the description; if it says that, we can grab a screenshot from there. You know about ballet, I like adding images to articles, win-win! --GRuban (talk) 23:44, 12 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
@GRuban: Just went through the videos and here's a few I found. Julie Kent (dancer) [5], Diana Vishneva [6], Jock Soto [7], Darci Kistler [8], Raven Wilkinson [9] and Misty Copeland [10][11][12]. Most of these articles already have at least one photo but I think the screenshots can be great additions! Corachow (talk) 11:24, 13 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
Mostly done! Hope you like. The main exceptions are:
  • didn't know which images to get for Diana Vishneva, as we already have a good headshot, and a video of her dancing. If you have some specific places in the video you'd like me to grab a screenshot from, please say.
  • only got images from one of the videos for Misty Copeland, because we already have a number. Even so, couldn't resist the closing dance sequence, which seems just gorgeous. I suspect someone might object it's too much already and want to delete it from the article - sigh. Did get a Charisse Jones and a Susan Fales-Hill image from there, though they aren't strictly ballet dancers as such. --GRuban (talk) 15:51, 14 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Two options, one at 0:36, facing forward, but a bit static, another somewhat fuzzier but more dramatic from 1:21:

And while we're here - https://vimeo.com/224653897 is a Creative Commons Attribution licensed video that should have Ask la Cour in it. But I can't tell where. If you say where, I will get you a screenshot for this article! (If you can identify the others, I can also get screenshots of them, if any of them have articles than need images.) --GRuban (talk) 19:56, 16 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
@GRuban: 0:03-2:06 is Daniel Ulbricht (currently a redirect but I'll create an article at some point) and Erica Pereira in Tarantella. 2:07-4:28 is Ask la Cour and Teresa Reichlen in Apollo, as Apollo and Terpsichore respectively. 4:29-5:47 is Unity Phelan and Russell Janzen (also a redirect that will get an article at some point) in the "Diamond" section of Jewels. 5:48-6:15 is Ulbricht and Pereira in Who Cares?. 6:16-7:15 is Ulbricht and Danielle Diniz in Sing, Sing, Sing, which was choreographed by Ulbricht himself. 7:26-7:53: (from left to right) Reichlen, la Cour, Pereira, Ulbricht and Phelan in Who Cares?.
The images aren't the best, as they were taken from far away, and the subjects were moving all the time! But, likely better than no images at all. I grabbed the ones I thought came out (relatively) the best. Please choose which you like (and at least confirm that I got the names right) --GRuban (talk) 22:23, 17 November 2021 (UTC):Reply

@GRuban: Just one mistake with the names, it is Russell Janzen. I'll add the photos to the articles. Corachow (talk) 09:59, 18 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

If you don't mind doing a it more work, I also found a few Vimeo videos with CCA licences that allow reuses as far as I can tell. It will probably take me a while to identify the dancers and works though. Corachow (talk) 18:01, 17 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
Will do! Not necessarily immediately, but will definitely eventually get to. So please do list the videos and the people (and the times if they're not labeled or otherwise obvious). --GRuban (talk) 19:09, 17 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

2022 Vimeo videos

edit
I haven't forgotten and am still interested in grabbing screenshots of ballet dancers from Vimeo videos with CCA licences, whenever you find any. --GRuban (talk) 18:53, 3 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
Hey GRuban, I almost forgot about this as I was quite busy last month. Here are a few I found. [13] 0:59-1:31 is Ashley Bouder and Joaquin De Luz in the Bournonville version of La Sylphide, as the Sylph and James respectively. 2-39-3:10 is Maria Shirinkina and Vladimir Shklyarov in The Sleeping Beauty. 4:00-5:03 is Friedemann Vogel (the one in blue) and Oscar Chacon in Maurice Béjart's Chant du compagnon errant. 6:18-6:51 is Bouder and De Luz in Agrippina Vaganova's Diana and Actaeon. 6:52-8:01 is Shirinkina and Shklyarov Le Corsaire, as Medora and Ali respectively.
Done those and put into their articles. - unfortunately Vogel is never shown full face. If you want a pic of Chacon I can do that. --GRuban (talk) 00:07, 4 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
@GRuban: It's fine, I doubt either Chacon or the piece will get an article anytime soon. Corachow (talk) 01:05, 4 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
[14] 3:31-5:02 is Sadaise Arencibia and Luis Valle in Carmen. At 8:16 (I really like this moment) is Marize Fumero and Arionel Vargas in Tschaikovsky Pas de Deux. (it's deliberately spelled with an extra 's'), and 15:57-18:21 is Laurretta Summerscales and Yonah Acosta in Le Corsaire’’, as Medora and Ali respectively.
Working ... --GRuban (talk) 00:07, 4 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
Done Added two of the first three to Sadaise Arencibia (feel free to switch if you disagree), but am debating adding either of the last two to Laurretta Summerscales. They're nice poses, but so low resolution that you can't really see much about her. My rule of thumb is "using this image, can you tell this person from a group?" and these might not help very much. But they certainly show she's a ballerina, I guess... --GRuban (talk) 15:40, 4 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
GRuban I agree, the Summerscales photos are to blurry. Corachow (talk) 17:17, 4 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
[15] The entire video is Kansas City Ballet in Serenade. A few timestamps I like are 0:04, 0:37, 0:48 (Kaleena Burks and Kelsey Hellebuyck) and 0:57 (Burks, Hellebuyck and Liang Yu). Corachow (talk) 20:03, 3 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
Here are those, all but the first are a bit rough, I can brighten and recrop them a bit if you like, didn't do it yet as not sure which you would prefer, or where you want to put them. For the last 3 - which one is invisible, Burks or Hellebuyck? Also, any chance his name could be Liang Fu, not Liang Yu? --GRuban (talk) 00:07, 4 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
The woman in the last three photos is Burks. I think the brightness of the first photo is fine, since it is when the curtain rises in the ballet, but I think the rest can be brightened a bit. It is Liang Fu and Not Liang Yu, sorry about that. However, I think the video actually credited the wrong dancer. Liang Fu is Chinese and the man in the video is clearly not. There's a Flickr image ([16], not free) that features Humberto Rivera Blanco alongside Burks and Hellebuyck, that are likely taken around the same time as the video. Corachow (talk) 01:05, 4 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
Done (Maybe a bit too tight recrop on the 5th.) These are really pretty, but where are we (you?) going to use them? --GRuban (talk) 14:05, 4 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
For Serenade. I just added two of the images to the article. Corachow (talk) 17:17, 4 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Nice! - Draft:Helmut Günther - I can't find sources for the details. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:59, 16 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

I don't think this person is active in the English-speaking world, so I can't find anything on him. I think your best chance is through German newspaper archive. Corachow (talk) 22:16, 16 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
similarly: Artem Datsyshyn, the prizes he received, - anything like reviews? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:39, 19 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Gerda Arendt: I could't find any reviews that are online. For the list of ballets he performed, I named the choreographers instead of the composer. (I typically don't name them for ballets made before 1910, for a complicated reason that is too hard to explain briefly) However, I don't know which Romeo and Juliet he danced since there are many versions with completely separate choreography, so I'm keeping Prokofiev's name there for now. Also, Kyiv Ballet is a part of the National Opera of Ukraine, so he was probably a member of Kyiv Ballet, but most sources say he's a member of the Opera, so I'm not doing anything for that at the moment. Corachow (talk) 18:10, 19 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
If that is so - Kyiv Ballet being part of the opera - could we expand the part of its school, and link there, instead to Ukrainian. It has a ref for Swan Lake in Canada (whole troup, not just an individual dancer), all company, unfortunately without dancers' names. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:50, 19 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

September songs

Thank you for a wealth of ballet info! - This rose pic was taken on 11 Sep 2021, and that day in 2022 was full of music, Tag des offenen Denkmals, not only singing in church and rehearsals for Verdi's Requiem, but two concerts at special places pictured, one a synagogue (pictured on its wall). Today three DYK: a piece we'll perform on Sunday, a violinist we heard in June playing the Berg Concerto (my brother played in the orchestra), and a Youth Orchestra shaped by a conductor who recently died. Almost too much of a good thing. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:32, 14 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Gerda Arendt: Thanks! This article was particularly difficult to write so I'm glad that you enjoyed reading it. I'll probably nominate it for GA, which I had somehow never done.
I just found out about your break from DYK. Your reviews have been very helpful and I hope I'll see them again. Until then I'll wonder "what would Gerda think?" in my nominations. Corachow (talk) 15:43, 6 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
You can still count on me reviewing, just let me know when you need it, - but the constant questioning of hooks needs to stop. Compare the two on top of my user talk: How would anybody be interested in an opera singer born in Israel being based in Germany?? Germany has the most opera houses, - singers from all over the world work there, - nothing about the specific gifts she has to offer. She was clicked a lot even with that poor hook but only (at least for my reasoning) because of an attractive pic). It took about 2 months to arrive at the hook - what a waste of time for all involved. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:05, 6 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

That's great. If everything is sourced, including the choreographies, he can appear on the Main page. I can do the nomination, - will watch. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:54, 10 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
After doing some Googling, I think a major hurdle is there are very few sources in English. So far I have one short article announcing his death, two encyclopaedia entries that cover his life until 2003, and a few reviews of his works that tell us very few things about his life. Obituaries will probably be published next few days though. I know enough French to recognise the keywords and can use Google Translate to help a bit, but I don't have access to most French sources. I'll do what I can at the moment (some clean ups and fill in some gaps) but if you or anyone you know can help please do so. Corachow (talk) 17:13, 10 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Expanded the main sections. Currently working a partial list of his works, which will take a while. Corachow (talk) 19:33, 10 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
There is no complete list anywhere. Closest is the Paris Opera bio, which omits a few things, and does not include the years of some of those works. Again, if you or someone you know have access to any French news archive please feel free to help. Corachow (talk) 19:36, 10 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
I'll look, but don't read French, know nothing particular about ballet, and have Huub Oosterhuis on my plate first. - We don't have to have anything complete, but one reference for every item mentioned. We can drop individual items, and we can give up working towards Main page appearance, but should still make the article as good as can be. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:23, 10 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
I think the article is in good enough shape for ITN, but I don't think I can make an adequate list of his works. I know it's probably impossible to do a complete list of his works and we can only do "selected works". I can either include works with a year - but that means omitting a few major works, or I can just have a list of everything I can find, with the years missing. Corachow (talk) 20:33, 10 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Someone else nominated it for RD. Corachow (talk) 21:07, 11 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

@MyCatIsAChonk: I'll comment on the FAC when I have the time, probably in the next few days, though I'm not familiar with the FAC process and need to figure that out first. In my three years of editing dance articles this is the first FAC of directly about dance. Corachow (talk) 21:45, 16 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Been there before- my first FAC review was in Kingdom Two Crowns as a thank you to the nominator. It does seem intimidating, but, really, it's easier than a GA review. In GA, you have to focus on all criteria points just by yourself, but at FAC it's much more collaborative. My advice? Wait till a few other editors comment so they can catch the fine details, then you can come in and point out the issues specifically regarding dance details. You'd be surprised at the number of common reviewers who miss small typos (myself very much included). Anyway, point being, no need to stress over it- still grateful for the PR, and let me know if you ever have open a GAN, DYK, or FAC that needs reviewing! I don't have anything up for review at the moment but I am working on a few things that will pop up on DYK in the next few days/weeks, and potentially a PR in the near future. I'll let you know!
