Minor League Player RfDs
I have nominated some minor league player redirects at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2013 February 19, some you created, some you didn't. Figured I would leave a more personal note rather than a bombardment of templates. Cheers, --kelapstick(bainuu) 22:42, 19 February 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the heads up. I'll look into them. – Muboshgu (talk) 23:03, 19 February 2013 (UTC)
- I had already found one that I had made a mistake on, and reverted my nomination. If you see any that just need to be retargeted to a new team, you can just make a note, strike it out, and revert my nomination. I am trying to only nominate the players that are no longer playing any more, but some slip through the cracks on me.--kelapstick(bainuu) 23:15, 19 February 2013 (UTC)
- Nobody's perfect. Lobstein is active (Rule 5 pick by the Mets traded to Detroit), but it's my bad for creating the redirect and forgetting to fill in some information. I don't think any of the others need retargeting. – Muboshgu (talk) 23:16, 19 February 2013 (UTC)
- No worries, I have reverted the nomination and struck it out. Over the next couple of weeks I will be checking through all the teams, I have done a complete overhaul of my Gjr rodriguez project (which I see you have used in the past), it's a lot more exhaustive exercise than I had expected it to be, but I will try to get through a team or two per day. --kelapstick(bainuu) 23:23, 19 February 2013 (UTC)

I reviewed your vast experience and wanted to contact you about helping to resolve a dispute. I'm being teamed up against by a group of self-avowed libertarians. I don't care that they are libertarians (or if you are) except for the fact they are using their ideology to skew the Koch Industries article. When I post positive things about Koch, they don't blink an eye, but if I dare put up anything critical, it gets deleted and frowned upon without balance. I'm trying to round up some disinterested third party input so I'm not getting steamrolled by biased editors. My goal is to make the article more informative and encyclopedic and that's it. Here's the current critical part of the Talk Page. Thank you. Cowicide (talk) 21:07, 21 February 2013 (UTC)

Hello Muboshgu:
Judging by the history of Template:Infobox MLB Draft, it looks like you designed it. I was then wondering if you could fix the caption parameter, which looks like it isn't working (such as in the article 1987 Major League Baseball Draft). Thanks. Albacore (talk) 15:58, 24 February 2013 (UTC)

WikiCup 2013 February newsletter
Round 1 is now over. The top 64 scorers have progressed to round 2, where they have been randomly split into eight pools of eight. At the end of April, the top two from each pool, as well as the 16 highest scorers from those remaining, will progress to round 3. Commiserations to those eliminated; if you're interested in still being involved in the WikiCup, able and willing reviewers will always be needed, and if you're interested in getting involved with other collaborative projects, take a look at the WikiWomen's Month discussed below.
Round 1 saw 21 competitors with over 100 points, which is fantastic; that suggests that this year's competition is going to be highly competative. Our lower scores indicate this, too: A score of 19 was required to reach round 2, which was significantly higher than the 11 points required in 2012 and 8 points required in 2011. The score needed to reach round 3 will be higher, and may depend on pool groupings. In 2011, 41 points secured a round 3 place, while in 2012, 65 was needed. Our top three scorers in round 1 were:
- Sturmvogel_66 (submissions), primarily for an array of warship GAs.
- Miyagawa (submissions), primarily for an array of did you knows and good articles, some of which were awarded bonus points.
- Casliber (submissions), due in no small part to Canis Minor, a featured article awarded a total of 340 points. A joint submission with Keilana (submissions), this is the highest scoring single article yet submitted in this year's competition.
Other contributors of note include:
- Sven Manguard (submissions), whose Portal:Massachusetts is the first featured portal this year. The featured portal process is one of the less well-known featured processes, and featured portals have traditionally had little impact on WikiCup scores.
- Sasata (submissions), whose Mycena aurantiomarginata was the first featured article this year.
- Muboshgu (submissions) and Wizardman (submissions), who both claimed points for articles in the Major League Baseball tie-breakers topic, the first topic points in the competition.
- Toa Nidhiki05 (submissions), who claimed for the first full good topic with the Casting Crowns studio albums topic.
Featured topics have still played no part in this year's competition, but once again, a curious contribution has been offered by The C of E (submissions): did you know that there is a Shit Brook in Shropshire? With April Fools' Day during the next round, there will probably be a good chance of more unusual articles...
March sees the WikiWomen's History Month, a series of collaborative efforts to aid the women's history WikiProject to coincide with Women's History Month and International Women's Day. A number of WikiCup participants have already started to take part. The project has a to-do list of articles needing work on the topic of women's history. Those interested in helping out with the project can find articles in need of attention there, or, alternatively, add articles to the list. Those interested in collaborating on articles on women's history are also welcome to use the WikiCup talk page to find others willing to lend a helping hand. Another collaboration currently running is an an effort from WikiCup participants to coordinate a number of Easter-themed did you know articles. Contributions are welcome!
A few final administrative issues. From now on, submission pages will need only a link to the article and a link to the nomination page, or, in the case of good article reviews, a link to the review only. See your submissions' page for details. This will hopefully make updating submission pages a little less tedious. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Saw that you were in WikiCup. Any interest in taking Trevor Hoffman to FA? I think a Yankee (and assumingly Rivera) fan going over it would provide a good balance.—Bagumba (talk) 23:50, 8 March 2013 (UTC)

- It was hard enough for me watching Jorge and Andy (temporarily) retire. Mo and Derek are a step above that for me. You're allowed to get credit for co-nominating featured content and DYKs. Good articles have to be solo. If you didn't notice, I don't have any GA or FA/FL noms right now; I've been dialing down my time here too due to work demands. I'm more in the Cup than really competing. I competed hardcore last year and made the final round. I don't expect to reach the next round this time. But I can take a look at the Hoff this coming week. – Muboshgu (talk) 15:51, 9 March 2013 (UTC)

2 questions
Hi, Muboshgu, I have a couple of questions for you:
1) Regarding this edit, what is the different between the 3 columns setting and the "30em" setting, and how does it relate to browser ability?
2) Should we change the hook for Bruce Rondón, as suggested by Ryan?
Regards, AutomaticStrikeout (T • C) 21:48, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
- 1) "30em" refers to the width of columns. Setting it that way, wider browsers can accommodate more columns, while narrower browsers will come up with fewer columns.
- 2) It wouldn't hurt. I don't understand the objection, since it's a fact that Dombrowski said that, but it's best to be prepared. I don't have any alts in mind at the moment though. – Muboshgu (talk) 21:56, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
- So, is "30em" always the preferred setting? AutomaticStrikeout (T • C) 22:37, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
- Generally, yes. That seems to be a good default. – Muboshgu (talk) 15:02, 12 March 2013 (UTC)

An idea
Hey Muboshgu! Long time no hear. Would you like to team up with me to claim the first featured topic for this year's WikiCup? The potential FT list can be viewed in my sandbox—basically, only three lists need to be completed up to FL standard. The 20–20–20 club list was rejected at FLC last August, but the peer review from before is enough, since it lacks 10 items. The 40–40 club still needs a PR for 4 items, which leaves List of Major League Baseball statistical clubs as the only FL needed to complete the topic. I just started the article, but it's very basic right now, so I was wondering whether you'd be interested in teaming up. Cheers! —Bloom6132 (talk) 02:59, 15 March 2013 (UTC)

Removing Crowley Post as Coatrack?
Hi I'm new to editing wikipedia and I noticed you removed the info I posted on Crowley - if it was a coatrack, why not just edit it instead of disappearing it completely? This seems disrespectful. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.185.15.179 (talk) 19:04, 19 March 2013 (UTC)
- Per WP:COATRACK, the information on how the media has portrayed the Steubenville rape doesn't belong on the biography page of Crowley. It belongs on Steubenville High School rape case. – Muboshgu (talk) 19:11, 19 March 2013 (UTC)
So I updated it in a way that I believe it is not a coatrack - but I don't understand why it wouldn't be on both Crowley's page and the Steubenville high school rape case since it is an aspect of her career for which she has received intense media scrutiny, such as the presidential debate. By your logic, wouldn't that entry that you updated and let remain also only belong on the Presidential debate page? Thank you for making me aware of the coatrack policy, but I believe I changed the entry to avoid that initial perception. I will pursue this with higher tier editors at Wikipedia if you remove it completely again, since you are not being logically consistent with the editing policies, as you have explained them here.67.185.15.179 (talk) 19:22, 19 March 2013 (UTC)
- Please note that there is a discussion on the Candy Crowley talk page regarding this. The proper way to proceed isn't to make threats but to discuss and come to consensus. TimidGuy (talk) 19:25, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

Is it uncommon to wait this long for a review? AutomaticStrikeout (T • C • AAPT) 17:06, 20 March 2013 (UTC)
- Maybe a little. I think that the comments by Ryan Vesey make it look like a review is underway, when it isn't. This may be a good time to think about ALT hooks in case a reviewer agrees with not wanting to go by Dombrowski's comment. – Muboshgu (talk) 17:14, 20 March 2013 (UTC)
- Would it be appropriate to request a review at the WikiProject Baseball talk page? AutomaticStrikeout (T • C • AAPT) 00:29, 22 March 2013 (UTC)

NYC Mayoral election
Thanks for your assistance. It would seem that we both filed an edit war report at exactly the same time so I went ahead and removed mine. Tiller54 (talk) 19:06, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
- You're welcome. It always helps when reverting an edit warrior to have some backup, so we don't violate 3RR ourselves. – Muboshgu (talk) 19:14, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
- Does 3RR still apply here? I know there's an exception for removing vandalism, which I assumed would apply to what he's doing... Tiller54 (talk) 19:21, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
- In the case of a content dispute, it's usually not considered "vandalism". – Muboshgu (talk) 20:04, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
- Ah OK, thanks. I wasn't sure about that. Tiller54 (talk) 20:10, 25 March 2013 (UTC)

Free agent numbers
I'm just doing the numbers from their last teams I'm not doing anything wrong or adding anything that's not true. They are the numbers from their last teams — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kingryan227 (talk • contribs) 23:21, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
- It's inaccurate. It's from a former team, so it's no longer relevant. – Muboshgu (talk) 23:23, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) I would have to agree with Muboshgu here. AutomaticStrikeout (T • C • AAPT) 23:25, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
- However, is there anything wrong with this edit? AutomaticStrikeout (T • C • AAPT) 23:27, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
- Only that "free agent" isn't a proper noun, and therefore "agent" shouldn't be capitalized. I reverted myself on that. – Muboshgu (talk) 23:28, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
- However, is there anything wrong with this edit? AutomaticStrikeout (T • C • AAPT) 23:27, 25 March 2013 (UTC)

Numbers
Yes I understand that it is from a former team but still people do that with players who just signed they put random numbers in and I check the official website and they don't have official numbers yet which makes that irrelevant. So I don't see why it is that big of a deal I'm not adding the free agents to teams so its the that bad and I'm not trying to be disrespectful. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kingryan227 (talk • contribs) 23:29, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
Question
I'm new to this editing Wikipedia thing. I don't know how to add photos and I want to add photos so that there are pictures for all sports players but I don't know how to add them --Kingryan227 (talk) 00:25, 26 March 2013 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) Do you have any pictures that you could provide? AutomaticStrikeout (T • C • AAPT) 00:27, 26 March 2013 (UTC)
- You can add images through the Wikipedia:File Upload Wizard. However, many sports players don't have pictures because there aren't any available that we have permission to use. We can't use copyrighted images. – Muboshgu (talk) 01:20, 26 March 2013 (UTC)

Minor league baseball
In both Casey and Brock Bond's frontpaged articles you say they play in "minor league baseball in the San Francisco Giants organization". Aren't the Giants major league? Or does this refer to some odd baseball convention? 8ty3hree (talk) 21:03, 26 March 2013 (UTC)
- All MLB teams have minor league affiliates, since it's incredibly rare for a player to go straight to the majors after they get drafted. Both Casey and Brock have played in minor league baseball. To date, neither has played in MLB (though Brock might in 2013). – Muboshgu (talk) 21:09, 26 March 2013 (UTC)

Please see talk - let's start there. I understand the result on the removal of repeated and clustered content not necessary to the article might have initially put you off.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Virginia_gubernatorial_election,_2013#Request_to_refocus abstergo abstergo accendo (talk) 18:56, 27 March 2013 (UTC) I sure hope this isn't YAPF (Yet another POV Fight) that I am being caught in while cleaning up a bloated article.
Refocus the article then, tell me changes you would like to contribute, or do yourself. But you can't simply refuse collaboration on a well rounded thesis with a classic "Go consensus in Talk" when I posted in talk prior to the changes, and I see you've not done much but make strange comments about a candidate that isn't even referenced in the page (Some one stealing a candidacy?).
In either case, the consensus is you and I. We are grown ups lets mediate on a way to refocus it. If your response is simply mass undo's and redirects to a talk page with nobody there but you ... well then it's clear you don't want to collaborate.
If you have 100,000 edits, you should know that primary controversies belong in the section... not at the main title of a general election abstergo abstergo accendo (talk) 19:14, 27 March 2013 (UTC)
- I'm collaborating... at the article's talk page, which is where collaboration should happen, so that EVERYBODY who is interested can participate. I undid one edit there which I don't believe Tiller54 would agree with either. Aside from that, I don't really understand the "refocus the article" paragraph you wrote above, including this "candidate" you're talking about. – Muboshgu (talk) 19:17, 27 March 2013 (UTC)
I'm sorry are you using your 100,000 edit coin to speak for another editor, or am I imagining things. — Preceding unsigned comment added by LifeEditorLatinAmerica (talk • contribs) 19:23, 27 March 2013 (UTC)
- Muboshgu is not speaking for anyone other than himself. I have replied on the article's talk page if you'd like to reply to me over there. Thanks, Tiller54 (talk) 19:25, 27 March 2013 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) If Tiller disagrees with me, then I'll stand corrected. Further, I don't appreciate the way you're bringing up my edits in a derogatory fashion. Please stick to the content. – Muboshgu (talk) 19:27, 27 March 2013 (UTC)

WikiCup 2013 March newsletter
We are halfway through round two. Pool A sees the strongest competition, with five out of eight of its competitors scoring over 100, and Pool H is lagging, with half of its competitors yet to score. WikiCup veterans lead overall; Pool A's Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) (2010's winner) leads overall, with poolmate Miyagawa (submissions) (a finalist in 2011 and 2012) not far behind. Pool F's Casliber (submissions) (a finalist in 2010, 2011 and 2012) is in third. The top two scorers in each pool, as well as the next highest 16 scorers overall, will progress to round three at the end of April.
Today has seen a number of Easter-themed did you knows from WikiCup participants, and March has seen collaboration from contestants with WikiWomen's History Month. It's great to see the WikiCup being used as a locus of collaboration; if you know of any collaborative efforts going on, or want to start anything up, please feel free to use the WikiCup talk page to help find interested editors. As well as fostering collaboration, we're also seeing the Cup encouraging the improvement of high-importance articles through the bonus point system. Highlights from the last month include GAs on physicist Niels Bohr ( Hawkeye7 (submissions)), on the European hare ( Cwmhiraeth (submissions)), on the constellation Circinus ( Keilana (submissions) and Casliber (submissions)) and on the Third Epistle of John ( Cerebellum (submissions)). All of these subjects were covered on at least 50 Wikipedias at the beginning of the year and, subsequently, each contribution was awarded at least three times as many points as normal.
Wikipedians who enjoy friendly competition may be interested in participating in April's wikification drive. While wikifying an article is typically not considered "significant work" such that it can be claimed for WikiCup points, such gnomish work is often invaluable in keeping articles in shape, and is typically very helpful for new writers who may not be familiar with formatting norms.
A quick reminder: now, submission pages will need only a link to the article and a link to the nomination page, or, in the case of good article reviews, a link to the review only. Admin?
Here's the million dollar question, one I probably should have asked some time ago. Have to given any thought to running for adminship? The Baseball project could use another admin or two, and I'd have no problems nominating you. Wizardman 18:47, 8 April 2013 (UTC)
- I have suggested this to Muboshgu before, but he has declined. However, if he was to choose to change his mind this time, I would be thrilled to co-nominate, if he would like that. Please do consider, Muboshgu. AutomaticStrikeout (T • C • Sign AAPT) 18:56, 8 April 2013 (UTC)
- Oh boy... Yeah I've been asked a number of times. I guess the persistence and recurrence means I should consider it. It's not something I'd take on lightly, though. What issues have you run into as an admin, Wizardman? Is it hard to learn? – Muboshgu (talk) 19:03, 8 April 2013 (UTC)
- Support I think that I too have suggested this to Muboshgu. I would strongly support an admin candidacy from one of our finest baseball content creators. Go Phightins! 19:06, 8 April 2013 (UTC)

Recent deaths and the Cup
Hi; as per this discussion, articles appearing on recent deaths are not eligible for points. Only articles appearing in the actual ITN column are eligible. This is something which may well change next year, but I'm afraid I can't change in this competition. As such, I've removed Pat Summerall from your submissions' page. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me on my talk page or start a discussion on the WikiCup talk page. Thanks, J Milburn (talk) 10:12, 19 April 2013 (UTC)

Tip O'Neill Award for FLC?
Hey Muboshgu! I've completed all the refs for the table; the only thing left to be fixed is the prose in the lead. Would you like to have a look so that we can co-nominate this as an FLC? Cheers! —Bloom6132 (talk) 16:06, 25 April 2013 (UTC)
- Sure. I'll put that on my list of things to do. I won't get around to it today, though. – Muboshgu (talk) 17:09, 25 April 2013 (UTC)
- Don't worry. Take your time; even I'm pretty busy with exams around the corner. On another note, the one thing I refrained from adding to the lead is the voting, which is unclear. TSN says the Canadian Baseball HOF "does not release vote totals", while this source says Votto "received over 80 per cent of the vote." Have you come across any other sources that confirm either one of these claims? —Bloom6132 (talk) 18:56, 25 April 2013 (UTC)

They are no longer collegiate football players. Also, I've been doing it for the better part of two weeks.
- You've been wrong to be doing it for two weeks. They're still college players, as no professional team has taken them. – Muboshgu (talk) 23:29, 25 April 2013 (UTC)
Well, they are about to be professionals, so perhaps it's time that it is right?
Sorry if I come off harsh. I will wait till it's official. Enjoy the draft!
- It's okay, no offense taken. But we don't know they'll become professionals, per WP:CRYSTAL. I mean, Te'o is likely to be a first round pick, but some of them might not be drafted. – Muboshgu (talk) 23:35, 25 April 2013 (UTC)

Virginia gubernatorial election, 2013
The text below is already noted on Bill Bolling's page. Comments such as, "praised by many Republicans as a noble act", are opinion. It lacks citation. The Washington Post, while read by Virginians, is a newspaper based out of DC, not Virginia. Explaining Bolling's disappointment and refusal to endorse Cuccinelli is an attempt to appeal to the reader's emotion and sway their opinion. The information regarding Bolling's running as a independent candidate is outdated, because he suspended his campaign.
"Lieutenant Governor Bill Bolling, elected to the post in 2005, decided to run for re-election as lieutenant governor in 2009 to allow McDonnell to run for governor without a primary, praised by many Republicans as a noble act. After the 2009 election, Bolling made no secret of his intention to run for governor in 2013, while Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli openly stated that he was considering three options: a run for re-election as attorney general in 2013, running for the U.S. Senate in 2014, and running for governor in 2013.[citation needed] On November 30, 2011, The Washington Post reported that Cuccinelli would announce a run for governor within days. Cuccinelli announced to colleagues on December 1, 2011, that he was indeed running.[1]
Bolling responded on the same day that he was disappointed that Cuccinelli decided to challenge him[2] and withdrew from the race on November 28, 2012. He cited Republican Party's decision to move to a nominating convention rather than a primary. He did not rule out the possibility of running as an independent candidate but did rule out running for another term as Lieutenant Governor. Bolling also refused to endorse Cuccinelli.[3]"
Basically, this text on the Virginia gubernatorial election, 2013 is unnecessary (as I stated in the edit's reasoning). But if it is not unnecessary and deemed appropriate, then any opinion or bias regarding any of the candidates, like I posted regarding Sarvis, should be considered legitimate. But it is not due to Wiki's nuetral policy.

Mo Cowan
Hello. I am 72 Forbush. You recently removed my edit of the article on Mo Cowan. The source (Boston Globe) is incorrect in reporting that Sen. Cowan was the first person from his high school to attend Duke University. A number of persons from Forbush High graduated from Duke at earlier dates, including me. I graduated from the same high school in 1972 and received undergraduate (1976) and law (1976) degrees from Duke. I am aware of two persons from Forbush High who graduated from Duke before I did. I have corresponded by email with Sen. Cowan and he has graciously acknowledged the error. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72Forbush (talk • contribs) 19:43, 29 April 2013 (UTC)

Hi Muboshgu, I was wondering if you get a chance, could take a look at this article because I'm really confused trying to figure this out? I was looking through the history and I find it strange but it appears the article is now about a different person than it was on April 17, 2013.[1] The reason I'm asking you is because I noticed that it was you who reverted an edit[2] to John Oldham (baseball) after User:1remains did the same thing as is happening here and that same editor's name is appearing a number of times in the Corey Lee history[3] as well. The recent edits that changed who the Corey Lee article is about were made by an IP not User:1remians, but also looking through the history, it appears that user had previously changed to another person but eventually self-reverted, and even more strange is that same IP was editing at that time as well, which leads me to wonder if they are the same person? I'm thinking the article should probably be reverted back to the edit before any of these changes were made. The article version before was[4], and the very first edit here by User:1remains changed it to[5]. I know this sounds all confusing but I'm trying to explain it the best I can. I'm hoping you can take a look and see if my concers here are accurate. Thanks. Cmr08 (talk) 04:28, 3 May 2013 (UTC)
- You're right that it was vandalized, so I reverted it. In the future, you can feel free to revert it as well. The issue becomes how to prevent it from happening again, since these two instances are likely the same person. We'd probably need administrator involvement, but I'm not sure if more proof is required. – Muboshgu (talk) 14:03, 3 May 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks, I would have reverted myself, but wanted to make sure it was really vandalism before I did. Cmr08 (talk) 03:15, 4 May 2013 (UTC)

WikiCup 2013 April newsletter
We are a week into Round 3, but it is off to a flying start, with Sven Manguard (submissions) claiming for the high-importance Portal:Sports and Portal:Geography (which are the first portals ever awarded bonus points in the WikiCup) and Cwmhiraeth (submissions) claiming for a did you know of sea, the highest scoring individual did you know article ever submitted for the WikiCup. Round 2 saw very impressive scores at close; first place Casliber (submissions) and second place Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) both scored over 1000 points; a feat not seen in Round 2 since 2010. This, in part, has been made possible by the change in the bonus points rules, but is also testament to the quality of the competition this year. Pool C and Pool G were most competitive, with three quarters of participants making it to Round 3, while Pool D was the least, with only the top two scorers making it through. The lowest qualifying score was 123, significantly higher than last year's 65, 2011's 41 or even 2010's 100.
The next issue of The Signpost is due to include a brief update on the current WikiCup, comparing it to previous years' competitions. This may be of interest to current WikiCup followers, and may help bring some more new faces into the community. We would also like to note that this round includes an extra competitor to the 32 advertised, who has been added to a random pool. This extra inclusion seems to have been the fairest way to deal with a small mistake made before the beginning of this round, but should not affect the competition in a large way. If you have any questions or concerns about this, please feel free to contact one of the judges.
A rules clarification: content promoted between rounds can be claimed in the round after the break, but not the round before. The case in point is content promoted on 29/30 April, which may be claimed in this round.
