Hi! Can you translate this from Japanese wikipedia? Dr. Blofeld White cat 14:51, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
Your signature
Hi Nihonjoe. I'm not sure if you are aware, but all that I (and some others) see in your signature is a bunch of boxes with numbers and letters in them (obviously symbols on your side) and then the plain text. Do you think you could change this so that everyone can see it in a normal font? iMatthew talk at 19:25, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
- That's because you don't have Japanese fonts properly installed on your system (or you have disabled them for some reason). Please follow the question mark link in my sig for details on how to make sure they are enabled. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 19:29, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
I see you have put {{Japan-reli-stub}} back in Category:Religion stubs (in a <noinclude> section). This template doesn't belong there - it categorizes its pages in Category:Japan religion stubs, and is itself in that category; as far as I know, no other stub template is categorized directly in the parent category of its stub category. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 08:03, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
Tōya Station
Hi! I reverted your page move of Tōya Station (Tōyako, Hokkaidō) to Tōya Station (Tōyako), because there was already a move discussion going on the talk page. (You probably just didn't notice that.) I think it would be a good idea to wait until the discussion has reached a conclusion before moving. Regards, Jafeluv (talk) 08:21, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

I referenced www.nichia.com but that was not acceptable. All of that information is on there but the person controlling the wikipage won't allow changes. Why won't you let me edit this page with referenced facts from Nichia's website? -- A0178 (talk) 20:49, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

User:Docu
Whilst his signature how has a date time stamp I'm concerned it appears solely as text. that is, there is no where on the signature where you can click to get to his talk page. LibStar (talk) 13:36, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
- If you click on the "Docu" part, it takes you to his contributions, so at least he's linking to something. You could post on WP:AN/I and mention that Docu is not living up to the RFC/U on this behavior. I don't think Docu is going to pay attention until he gets blocked though. He doesn't seem to give a rat's patootie about anyone else on Wikipedia, nor does he seem concerned about working nicely with others. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 02:01, 29 August 2009 (UTC)

Hi! I find this sudden move is too high-handed. And the editor's edits look like CPoV. As far as I know, there has been no recent discussion about the move. I think it should be talked about. What do you think? Best Regards. Oda Mari (talk) 19:09, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
User:Kusunose reverted the move. But I think the discussion is still needed. Please see the talk page. Regards. Oda Mari (talk) 04:35, 2 September 2009 (UTC)

Utah nonagenarian
I've just made highly controversial edits -- here + here. This is replicated in a slightly shortened form here. I discovered this when I initially created the article about Patrick Lennox Tierney in 2008; but I didn't know how to handle it. Today an anonymous editor jogged my memory by changing this nonagenarian' age from 93 to 97 here. Can you offer a constructive comment? suggestion? --Tenmei (talk) 23:19, 3 September 2009 (UTC)
- It appears that this is may have been a non-issue; or perhaps the lack of confrontation only demonstrates that those who might have construed a cause for conflict are otherwise occupied. So much the better. --Tenmei (talk) 21:33, 6 September 2009 (UTC)

Why are there huge blank spaces on the inside of the parentheses in this template?
Compare the following:
- nihongo (nihongo, nihongo)
- nihongo title (nihongo title, nihongo title)
—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 04:26, 9 September 2009 (UTC)
- I don't know. Perhaps you should ask the author of the template? I'm not seeing these "huge blank spaces", either, so I have no idea what you mean. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 03:48, 10 September 2009 (UTC)
- FYI - I see it too. On firefox there are large spaces, and on IE there are boxes (I believe an unprocessed tab). I think it has to do with the span style="white-space:nowrap;" in {{Nihongo core/paren}} but I couldn't get it to disappear in a 1 minute test removal... Especially visible in {{Nihongo core |translation=Tokyo |paren=yes |romaji=Tōkyō |addition=12,790,000 inhabitants |type=romaji |help=yes}} - we'll take it to the author's page now 7 04:48, 10 September 2009 (UTC)
Hi all -- I don't see the boxes or large spaces, but I'll remove the thin spaces in the nihongo core template. Probably, it's the Unicode settings. We can't assume that everyone has the newest browser machinery, and if (somewhat) older (or maybe just different) browsers don't display that correctly, we should not use it. ... There will be no support for Windows 3.1 or DOS, however ;-) -- Btw, when the spaces are fixed, we could use the Nihongo core template in the main Nihongo template, too, imho. I can't change the code of that template, however. Cs32en 20:37, 10 September 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks - looks better now. 7 07:05, 11 September 2009 (UTC)

Free will models deleted
Hi Nihonjoe,
I requested a hangon so I could paraphrase any copyright material on this new page.
I also noted that my source - Two-stage models of free will - is licensed under CC attribution 3.0, the same license you recommend.
Is it possible for you to recover my work so I can continue with the paraphrase effort?
Thanks very much Cmsreview (talk) 15:06, 16 September 2009 (UTC)

Thanks, Nihonjoe,
I carefully read the Wikipedia licensing policy. As I read it, since my source page has a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0, I should be able to make use of it. Cmsreview (talk) 13:39, 18 September 2009 (UTC)
Are you OK with that? Is there some good way to indicate that on the Wikipedia page, so it won't get deleted? Thanks for any help and for getting my work back. Cmsreview (talk) 03:12, 18 September 2009 (UTC)
- I don't have an opinion one way or the other on this particular article. I recommend placing a note on the talk page regarding the licensing of the page being used as the basis of this article. It should also be included as a reference per the licensing terms of CC-3.0. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 04:28, 18 September 2009 (UTC)
That sounds like a good plan. In the future, when my source is CC-3.0, I will put that fact on the talk page so it is visible to reviewers.

Canterbury University Tramping Club
I come back to wikipedia for the first time in a year or so and it seems you can no longer make contributions? Why did you delete the new, unfinished, half a day old article on the Canterbury University Tramping Club? I only made a start on it so far, and before even seeing that it was put forward for speedy deletion it was deleted... Perhaps you would care to wait for at least a day to allow the hangon tag to be used before removing it??? Please reinstate the article and we can talk about why you propose to delete it on the discussion page. I refer you to similar organization's page Otago University Tramping Club, just as notable and the article is informative, and interesting. Although now I am hesitant you might just delete that too. It is neither a small club, nor a new club, it is notable in that for more than 100 years many trampers of New Zealand have come through it. Thank you for your work as an admin by the way. Thorney (talk)
- It was deleted because the content of the article itself gave no indication of why the club was notable in any way. In general, university clubs are not notable as they tend to not have any third-party reliable sources giving them coverage which could be used to verify that notability. This was the case with this article. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 14:40, 17 September 2009 (UTC)
Okay, once again I must mention it is a new article. Don't you think you could have posted a message saying "you need to add third-party reliable sources to verify the notability of this subject or it will be deleted"? I did a very brief search and came up with:
- SportsHub.com
- rogaining.com
- Federated Mountain Clubs of New Zealand
- Christchurch City Council
- Canterbury Mountaineering Club
- NZ Hotpools
- University of Canterbury Students Asso
- nzorienteering.com
- Softrock
- alpineclub.org.nz
- www.sportsbuddy.co.nz
- avontrampingclub
Okay I realise these are not all brilliant, but they are not blogs or anything either. I request that you consider reinstating the page. Thorney (talk)
- Even new articles must meeting the criteria I mentioned, so if you had included 2-3 of the items you mentioned above as references for the article, it wouldn't have been deleted. As the "hangon" tag mentions:
Note that this request is not binding, and the page may still be deleted if the page unquestionably meets the speedy deletion criteria, or if the promised explanation is not provided very soon.
- As the page did meet the speedy deletion criteria, it was deleted. I was merely processing the speedy deletion tagging, and it is not part of the process to do research on every tagged article to see if some possible sources could be found for them; that is the responsibility of those creating the article. I recommend reading Help:Contents/Editing Wikipedia for further details on the process of creating and referencing an article. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 04:27, 18 September 2009 (UTC)

Hi, Nihonjoe. I've got a bit of a mess on my hands. Koyū Ohara should be moved to Kōyū Ohara, but I can't move the article because Kōyū Ohara already exists as a redirect. I've seen people copy & paste instead of moving, then get warned not to do that, so I won't. I guess you can delete the redirect, then move things properly. Apologies
Apologies for the mistake I made. I truly did not see anything stating a GNU free document thing at the end of the article. In any case as I don't know what that is I probably would've reported the article anyway. As I'm unsure if that means that Wikipedia copied from them or if they copied from us, I'd rather report it for it to be investigated, to be on the safe side.
Do you know what a GNU document thing is? --5 albert square (talk) 00:14, 27 September 2009 (UTC)
- A "GNU document thing"? I'm not sure what you mean. However, at the very bottom of the page, it clearly states they got the article from Wikipedia. It's always good to do a little bit of investigation on those as there are many dozens of sites out there which copy wholesale from Wikipedia. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 01:41, 27 September 2009 (UTC)

I'm intrigued by your reasoning that a claim of notability negates a spam speedy tag. It seems that they often overlap, and in fact frequently go hand-in-hand. I don't believe I've ever seen a speedy tag removed with the rationale that a claim of notability means it can't be spam. Care to elaborate? 98.248.33.198 (talk) 21:10, 27 September 2009 (UTC)
- A claim of notability means that it can't (and shouldn't) be speedy deleted as there may be more to the subject of the article despite spamminess. It doesn't mean it can't be deleted through the normal process, however, and you can also improve the article by removing the spamminess instead of just doing a drive-by tagging. Also, I recommend logging in instead of doing everything "anonymously" as an IP as working as an IP is more difficult (in many ways, including telling people almost exactly where you are in the world). ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 21:16, 27 September 2009 (UTC)
- It still seems that you're using apples to try and make orange juice; the spam tag isn't about notability, it's about tone and purpose. 98.248.33.198 (talk) 21:49, 27 September 2009 (UTC)

Your edit summary for this removal of a speedy nomination stated that the subject "meets basic notability requirements for professional footballers, not speediable". Can you please explain how the subject meets the notability requirements, with reference to the fact that the Vancouver Whitecaps FC is a USL First Division team, not a Major League Soccer team? Bongomatic 12:30, 28 September 2009 (UTC) Should you wish to reply, please do so here. I will watch this page for a few days, so no {{talkback}} or other comment on my talk page is required.
- The USL, as well as the Vancouver Whitecaps FC team (one of Canada's foremost football teams), is a wholly notable and noted league on its own right, and the player in question has represented the Canada U-20 men's national soccer team. Several international players of repute have played in the USL and continue to do so, with some, such as the Puerto Rico Islanders having played in the CONCACAF Champions League. While I am not involved in the article at hand, speaking from my personal experience working in WP:FOOTBALL, I can say this article comfortably fits each notability criteria, is well-referenced and most certainly does not merit speedy deletion. ···巌流? · talk to ganryuu 12:51, 28 September 2009 (UTC)
- The USL is "a professional men's soccer league in North America", and is listed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/Fully professional leagues as a fully professional league. WP:ATHLETE states that "people who have competed at the fully professional level of a sport" are generally considered notable. Ganryuu provided a better answer, though. The article doesn't even come close to being eligible for speedy deletion. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 04:26, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
- I should also note that since he played for at least two Canadian national teams (currently still a member of one of them), he also meets the "people who have competed at the highest amateur level of a sport" by being a member of their national team and competing in international championship games. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 04:31, 29 September 2009 (UTC)

If it is not a copyvio because it is a public domain image, then shouldn't you have changed the licensing and rationale to show that instead of just removing a disputed fair use rationale? This is about the copyvio issue on Domingo Abella (diff).
The current license of Wikipilipinas is GFDL 1.2. As far as I can see, it is 1.2-only, not 1.2 and above. In the Licensing update at meta (link) under the column of "can export to Wikimedia" on GFDL 1.2, it says that it is not allowed. I assume that importing GFDL 1.2 only text is considered copyvio after the licensing update. Is my assumption wrong? --Bluemask (talk) 06:03, 1 October 2009 (UTC)

- I interpret that to mean they allow anyone to use the site content freely. Their GFDL page is a royal mess, though, and it appears they aren't aware of any versions of GFDL after 1.2. You could always contact them about it. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 06:13, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
- Following up on User talk:Bluemask#Incorrect copyright clearance at Crispulo Aguinaldo where this was mentioned, I'm afraid the interpretation you made is no longer correct. GFDL-only content added after November 1st, 2008 is no longer legit following the licensing transition, see wp:Licensing update#Content restriction for the non-legalese explanation. Cheers, MLauba (talk) 15:57, 8 October 2009 (UTC)
It's been a month since the RFC on "Romanization". Interest over the issue seemed to have died down. What would the next step be to avoid any more discontent over the issue? — Blue。 07:02, 2 October 2009 (UTC)
- Not sure. No matter how things are worded, someone will always find something to disagree with. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 14:26, 2 October 2009 (UTC)
National Centre for Research on Europe
Hello,
I just thought I should point out that the article on the National Centre for Research on Europe which apparently you contributed to deleting, was created by administration staff here at the centre with the support of the department head. Claims of copyright infringement from our own departmental website site are frivolous.
Well done.

- I can find no evidence of an article titled National Centre for Research on Europe having ever existed here. Perhaps it was under a different title? I handle many, many such issues, so unless I can find it, I can't offer an explanation. It was not created or contributed to by you, either. Did you work on it under a different username or under an IP address? ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 03:37, 5 October 2009 (UTC)
- The site was http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=National_Centre_for_Research_on_Europe&action=edit&redlink=1 I contributed to its writing along with others in the centre but not under my own username. gilltm 00:23, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
- Odd...it wasn't there when I was looking before, likely because I was searching for the title used as the title of this section before I corrected the spelling just now (no second "r" in "research"). I deleted it because it was a blatant copyright violation, basically a verbatim (or nearly so) copy of the content of this page. The copyright notice on the site (click the link in the bottom right corner of that page I linked to) has wording which is incompatible with the requirements of Wikipedia as all content on Wikipedia must be able to be used for any reason, for any purpose, including commercial purposes. Just a quick note... should you choose to run again, I wanted to let you know that you've addressed my primary reason for opposing your last RfA and a quick review the other day didn't bring up any major reasons why *I* would oppose.---Balloonman NO! I'm Spartacus! 16:42, 5 October 2009 (UTC)

Second Sino-Japanese War
I see you moved Second Sino-Japanese War to Second Sino–Japanese War, using an en-dash instead of a hyphen, citing WP:MOS-DASH. But I think this is in error. The guideline explicitly states to use a hyphen in case of Sino-Japanese: but a hyphen is used in Sino-Japanese trade, in which Sino-, being a prefix, lacks lexical independence. Please reconsider and revert the page moves. Thank you. --Kusunose 01:26, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
- I moved it because First Sino–Japanese War was moved citing that guideline, so I wanted to maintain consistency. If you have concerns about it, please raise them with the person who moved the other page. I don't really care which one it's at. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 05:47, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you for the explanation. I went to the talk page of the editor who moved the page. As another editor had already raised the issue of en-dash/hyphen there, I added a commnent on First Sino–Japanese War. I will wait for his/her response. --Kusunose 08:26, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
Hi, You deleted an article I posted on Chuck Parsons. The reason was "unambiguous copyright infraction" and a google search reference (??). The writing was a summary of interviews, reading, and other data in my own words, was was not plagiarism. Anyway, I guess I did not footnote it correctly, make links, etc., and was looking for feedback, I will go back to the drawing board. Not very helpful.DGNW (talk) 05:52, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
- Please create a new section if you're going to post about something not already being discussed here. The article was deleted because it was an "Unambiguous copyright infringement" (not "infraction") of a page which appears to have been deleted now. At the time I checked it (five days ago) it was very clearly a copyright infringement. I have userfied the article to User:DGNW/Chuck Parsons to allow you to work on it until it is ready to be moved back to Chuck Parsons. If you need help doing that once you're ready, please let me know. Please be sure to include as much detail about your sources as possible, too. For books, always include the ISBN, the name of the publisher, the location of the publisher, the date of publication, and the author(s). You can read more at WP:Reliable sources. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 06:14, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
Graffiti (album)
With the creation of the article, Graffiti (chris brown album), with apparently some valid sources and a confirmed release date, could you unblock the page Graffiti (album), so a page move can be performed. Appreciate it...thanks. --Wolfer68 (talk) 01:14, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
- The sources are not reliable, and most of them appear to be either written by the artist himself or by those he's paid to write things for him. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 02:39, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
If you could, please mention something here or here. The user in question reformatted Go-ongers (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) by removing nearly every single instance of {{nihongo}} and taking the kanji, hiragana, and katakana to a section at the bottom of an article, but left the original translated and romanicized text in its place, as well as using the one instance of {{nihongo}} incorrectly (putting it as {{nihongo|English|Romaji|Kanji}}). The diff in question is here.—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 22:02, 8 October 2009 (UTC)
He needs to be reminded of this at the article talk page as he disagrees with you and continues to assert that the article, as written, is impossible for someone without advanced knowledge of the Japanese language to read when only every proper noun that is explicitly stated in the series (relating to these characters) is mentioned (character names, weapon names, attack names, vehicle names, etc.).—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 23:49, 12 October 2009 (UTC)
Japanese language
Hi, Nihonjoe. My alter-ego stepped into the Japanese language article, over a minor skirmish about the Altaic theory (good block there, by the way). But on looking at the article as a whole, it turns out mention of that one controversial theory is the least of its problems. Any kind of placement of the language within history or human languages is left out, and the article as a whole is very anecdotal, and poorly sourced. It's far outside my area of editing expertise, and I don't like to tag things unless I intend to do some work myself (I'd rather stand on the side-lines and complain :) but it's a very important article. Maybe you know of good editors in this area who could be notified?-- My complaining at the talk page, without intending to work on the article will quickly wear thin.-- Thanks. GFDL only licensing
Hi, Nihonjoe. I noticed that you had removed a G12 speedy from an article where another editor had created it by copy-pasting from WikiPilipinas. You reasoning was that it was licensed there under GFDL. Unfortunately, any text which is only GFDL licensed is not permitted. Our rules changed this past June so that we require text to be either CC-BY-SA or dual licensed GFDL and CC-BY-SA. The line from our terms of service currently states: please note that you cannot import information which is available only under the GFDL. In other words, you may only import text that is (a) single-licensed under terms compatible with the CC-BY-SA license or (b) dual-licensed with the GFDL and another license with terms compatible with the CC-BY-SA license. A handy chart which shows license compatibility can be found at WP:FAQ/Copyright. So the WikiPilipinas material cannot be imported directly. Just wanted to bring you up-to-date. Cheers. — CactusWriter | needles 17:09, 18 October 2009 (UTC)
- Not sure exactly how that legally works since Wikimedia changed without specific notice to every contributor the licensing on Commons and Wikipedia to both instead of just GFDL. Seems a bit against the licensing terms to me to be able to change it without requesting permission from all the contributors. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 23:22, 18 October 2009 (UTC)
- The change was a resolution passed by the board of the Wikimedia Foundation after a vote by the entire community which took place from April to May. It was publicized throughout the Wikis by various announcements. (The final parameters of the change can be read at Wikipedia:Licensing update). As with any of the announcements listed on the WP pages for various votes and elections, we can only hope that editors will read them and participate. Don't worry -- you aren't the only one who missed the announcements. Good luck with your editing. — CactusWriter | needles 20:59, 19 October 2009 (UTC)
- Plus, technically, you previously agreed to contribute under GFDL 1.2 and later, that paved the way for GFDL 1.3 which enabled dual licensing. That's lawyers for you... :) MLauba (talk) 21:18, 19 October 2009 (UTC)
- I didn't miss anything. I voted for the change. I'm just saying that I don't think enough effort was made to notify all contributors. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 01:05, 20 October 2009 (UTC)
