Sansom source

Hi! I started to collect resources for a new article on the Fujiwara no Nakamaro Rebellion from 764. I saw at Wikipedia:WikiProject Japan/Reference library, that you have the first part of Sansom ("A History of Japan to 1334") and was wondering if it (or any other source you might have) has anything to say on the topic. Would appreciate if you could have a look when you get time (it is not urgent). Most other sources I have, describe the events around that rebellion (Koken, Dokyo, Nakamaro,...) in detail but when it comes to the actual rebellion they say little more than that it was crushed. bamse (talk) 10:08, 20 October 2012 (UTC)

I will look up the information when I get back from the convention I'm at. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 00:16, 21 October 2012 (UTC)

There was barely a mention in the book you mentioned. There is a bit more mentioned in this book, however, and it's free from Project Gutenberg. I will see what else I can find. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 07:41, 30 October 2012 (UTC)
Thank you. In fact Farris, "Heavenly Warriors" is very detailed on the rebellion part, so I have quite a good set of references already. Of course more references won't hurt, but please don't search too hard for something else. bamse (talk) 09:11, 30 October 2012 (UTC)

Protection of the Chinese-language-name re-directs for the Senkaku Islands

A secret content-fork of the Senkaku Islands was managed to be created by an Australian-based Chinese-speaking editor. Surely, ALL Chinese-language-name re-directs should also be under full protection from editing? -- KC9TV 20:05, 3 November 2012 (UTC)

Dubious name change

Radiopathy — a user with a long history of short blocks and the topic of multiple discussions at admin noticeboards for disruptive editing — changed his name to Vanished user 194difuh2ruhqwdoinxojakdjncno234r (talk · contribs). Okay, fine so far. But then almost immediately the account Radiopathy (talk · contribs) was recreated, effectively blanking the block log and talk page history for this user. This strikes me as odd at best. Wasn't sure where to start inquiring about this, thought you might be able to provide some insight. Cheers. Hairhorn (talk) 17:35, 4 November 2012 (UTC)

(edit conflict)I was coming here with the same question. If this is okay then no problem it is just that I hadn't seen anything like to in my 7+ years here and I wanted to be sure that all was okay. Thanks for your time. MarnetteD | Talk 17:42, 4 November 2012 (UTC)
He did that so no one else would create an account with that username. The logs are still there, so no worries. I've blocked the newly-minted Radiopathy account, too. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 18:56, 4 November 2012 (UTC)

Question about trains in Japan

Hi, I hope you don't mind me asking a random question but I've noticed you edit many articles on trains in Japan. Can I ask if you know how the "noriire" system in Japan works? Is it just 2 different companies sharing trainsets and operations are handled independently on their respective infrastructures or is it an infrastructure access contract? I can't find any information about it on Wikipedia or other sites. Any information or if you can point me to a website which explains this, it would be very much appreciated. Thanks. 138.253.210.27 (talk) 14:08, 5 November 2012 (UTC)

I am requesting your resignation as a Crat for poor judgment - thanks - Youreallycan 21:16, 10 November 2012 (UTC)

    • Come on YRC, that isn't very helpful. I think the resysoping was a mistake on at least one level, there is no secret there, but I don't see any malice in his actions. What I would prefer is that Nihonjoe consider reversing himself, and we can all work towards fine tuning the policy. This incident has shown us that we would be better to have a slight delay to allow the community to dig around. The final decision is always the Crats, and I don't want to change that, and I completely hate that I had to drag this to Arb, but I had no choice. There is no other venue to discuss it. I do think that a Crat can reverse themselves IF they feel they made an error. Admin can with blocks, etc. so the remedy surely is available if resysoping. Of course, if Nhihonjoe feels it isn't a mistake, then that is his right, but that is why we are at Arb. It is unfortunate all around. Dennis Brown - © Join WER 12:27, 11 November 2012 (UTC)

I think Nihon was following policy and the crats supported him but, yes, I thought the decision was hasty and it shocked me that the context in which he returned was ignored and I was ignored. Nihon I need to clear this up with you. I have noticed several times when I've been subject of a debate or proposal that you seem to have a clear dislike me for me, I can't find diffs but I am aware of it. At such places like ANI or wherever when I'm at the centre of something like that its usually editors with long standing grudges against me relish in the opportunity to get the better of me. So I came to associate your user name with "this guy has a grudge for some reason". In seeing the Pokemon on your user page I have a strong feeling it is linked to what I said about the Pokemon project and content a long long time ago and your name is vaguely familiar I think from then. I put a Seiyu article up for deletion and was a little pointy I think about Pokemon content and made some suggestions of improving the quality and sourcing I think which I know the Pokemon project took very badly. If you have nothing to do with the Pokemon project and you do not associate me with any past tiff I apologise but I'm pretty sure anybody looking back through my AFD history would find an article on a Japanese Seiyu and a whole lot of nastiness over Pokemon and manga issues. I'm being honest that my initial thought in the speed in which you granted the rights did make me wonder if you saw it as an opportunity to get one over me. Please clarify what our history is as I could be wrong but I have a strong feeling I've done something to offend you in the past, even if this is unrelated to this case and I'm not happy things remaining that way. If you can't I'll ask somebody to investigate it. It should be something in the history of Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Anime and manga from around 2009? or something I think. As I say I believe you were following policy but the fact it was your user name which made the quick decision to grant tools which I associate with negativity towards me for some reason did make me wonder exactly why you rushed it, even if this is not the case at all.. ♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 13:34, 11 November 2012 (UTC)

I'm not aware of any significant interaction we have. I have no feelings one way or the other concerning you. My decision to return the tools to Polarscribe had nothing at all to do with you. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 19:28, 11 November 2012 (UTC)
I definitely had a tiff with the Anime project a few years back as I've said on Farix's talk page. I distinctly remember arguing with him and I vaguely recall you in the background. I received quite an unpleasant reception for doing what I thought was a good thing trying to clean up unsourced in-universe cruft, I haven't forgotten that. But either way, its long in the past and should be forgotten. Bisanz says he would have granted the tools anyway. I've done a fair bit of work towards Japan related articles on wikipedia, in fact I recently created Template:Location map Japan Ryukyu Islands and a few related articles and tried to get somebody to edit the Japan geo template to use that map.. And of course my volcano is located in deepest Japan...♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 20:16, 11 November 2012 (UTC)
Well, I don't remember any significant interaction with you, though it's possible we interacted as you stated. Have you ever changed your username? I am in the mood to celebrate with you

Salutations, Nihonjoe! It has really been a while since I last saw you in action ... I suppose that my skill at being a Wikipedian has really grown by leaps and bounds. Anyway, I have two episode synopsis pages whose framework I crafted when I was having housing drama back in late 2010-early 2011 because of a tyrannical ex-landlord that forced me to abandon an apartment in defiance of an active lease; since my ex-landlord demonstrated that he has no qualms about barging in on me right when I am getting out of bed and generally really did not want me as a tenant, I could not really do much beyond typing up the framework for those two articles. Now that I have left my ex-landlord with one hell of a repair job that was my former apartment and am not in any danger of ending up on the streets, I have turned my attention toward conducting further work. I am writing to invite you to the debut of one of the two episode synopsis pages that I was only able to work on after the RL housing drama was resolved -- »Perrine Monogatari«. I really kept an eye toward ensuring that the kanji and romanji episode titles were kept buried until their accuracy is verified. I modified the lead paragraph to also acknowledge the »Perrine Monogatari« English title and took care to really cross the t's and dot the i's as far as grammar and spelling ... please try not to be too mean, Nihonjoe; I was under the threat of eviction when I first composed that page and its completion is a testament to having defeated the fate of almost being made homeless without cause.

List of The Facts of Life episodes

Hi, I noticed you removed the copyvio for List of The Facts of Life episodes. I still think it is copy-pasted from sitcomsonline, but Duplication Detector will not catch it without converting the strings out of table format. Also I had worked on rewriting most of seasons 1-5 back then, so please take a look and compare the episodes after the girls went to Langley and you'll see obvious copy-paste work of summaries. AngusWOOF (talk) 06:36, 12 December 2012 (UTC)

Then remove (or rewrite) those obvious copy-paste entries rather than blanking the entire list. As I indicated in my summary, I grabbed 20 random strings of words (10-15 words each) and didn't find even one. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 06:42, 12 December 2012 (UTC)

Recent redirect salt

Nihonjoe, why did you delete Senkaku/Diaoyu/Diaoyutai Islands dispute without any discussion, after I recreated it (see my deleted edit summary) on the basis of it having 53,900 Google results for the search, as well as it being the title of a Congressional Research Service report? Same reason as the other two admins who deleted the redirect three days before it was deleted by me. No one is going to search here for that title; it's about as likely as pigs flying. Crat statement draft

Hi Nihonjoe

Following the drama at BN, I'm trying to come up with a statement all Crats could agree to. Please take a look, below.

I am quite content to do this onwiki -we have always worked transparently, except where secrecy is essential (ie RTV). I think we should be able to wordsmith a statement acceptable to all, and I think it's an important thing to do.

  1. In my opinion, this issue has come about through an unfortunate proliferation of documentation: policy, guideline, how-to etc
  2. I am not convinced that there is community consensus on all of the points encapsulated in those various pages
  3. I am unhappy at what may be described as some or all of: inconsistencies, inaccuracies or lack of clarity in that documentation
  4. I do not believe that any of the issues we have faced have been caused by Crats trying to widen their powers
  5. I would like to see the issues clarified, based on consensus, and for the documentation to be updated accordingly
  6. I'd like to thank Griot-de for generously withdrawing the rename request

You've been given an explanation for the move. You're dab is against the standard. The onus is on you to provide an explanation for why the article should be at a non-standard and totally unnecessary dab. Curly Turkey (gobble) 07:10, 16 January 2013 (UTC)

It is not uneccessary when I'm going to be creating the Sotsugyō (Zone song) article in the next few days. Putting the Sotsugyō (Yuki Saito song) article at the current title makes it so it doesn't have to be moved again once the other one is created. Rather than running around like a bull in a china shop and moving articles all over the place, perhaps it would be better to ask why an article was placed where it was, especially when the editor in question has been editing for many, many years now. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 07:20, 16 January 2013 (UTC)

Re:My WikiProject Japan request for assistance

Hi NJ!

I just noticed that you closed the section I started asking for advice on dealing with a disruptive user and told me to follow the steps on WP:DR. I appreciate that the project talk page was not the right place for me to seek assistance of that kind, but you see this user has been misbehaving and making destructive edits on numerous Japan-related articles, and I am apparently the only one who has noticed and tried to do anything about it.

I meant to say that I have already tried DR, but was told each time to discuss it on the relevant article talk pages. I have already done this one at least 3 occasions. I went to WPJ to ask what I can do now, because going in circles over and over again is getting frustrating, because this is clear-cut.

Anyway, if you have any more specific advice I would be very thankful if you could offer it.

Cheers!

Salutations, Nihonjoe! I have already delivered on the former ... and now it is the latter's turn. I am really proud of how the »Ashita no Nadja« episode synopsis page has turned out and I hope that it will be useful to Wikipedia.

Postscript: Here is the URL to my brainchild, Nihonjoe ... please bear in mind that I was in real danger of ending up homeless in RL when I started work on it and try not to be too mean when modifying it.

Senkaku Islands

I just noticed that this article has been fully protected for over 4 months now, there is also a notice on the talk page: "NOTE: Any discussions regarding the naming of this article or moving this article to a different title are forbidden until January 1, 2013 per this notice by NuclearWarfare." which is dated as well, would you consider changing the protection status to semi protection given the time period that has gone by? - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 02:36, 25 January 2013 (UTC)

This isn't the first time they have been fully protected, and I hold out little hope people will edit appropriately given the repeated failure to do so in the past.
