Budget Cuts moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Budget Cuts, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Majun e Baqi (talk) 06:36, 16 July 2020 (UTC)

Welcome!

Nice work on the draft template. Don't get discouraged if it doesn't get implemented. I look forward to your continuing contributions! –xenotalk 15:38, 2 September 2020 (UTC)

Thanks. Despite its niche audience, I think it'd be an improvement to the current infobox. SWinxy (talk) 15:41, 2 September 2020 (UTC)

Minecraft Articles Mergers and Deletions

Hi, Recently, you have reviewed some of the articles I have recently created, and nominated them for deletion or merging. I believe that, after some time to work on them (making them encyclopaedic, and passing GNG), they will be fit for Wikipedia. However, I can appreciate that these changes will take time in the mainspace. As such, is it possible that, instead of deletion, they get reverted to drafts? This way I can work on them for as long as needed and they can go through AFC process to ensure they are valid articles. Is this possible? Thanks Squid45 Squid45 (talk) 08:39, 13 September 2020 (UTC)

You are free to move them to the draft namespace and add to the pages as you please. However, it does not mean that the articles will meet the standards for Wikipedia. Sub-articles (the DLC packs for Minecraft: Dungeons) are for when articles are too big or when it is significant enough to create their own pages for. The pages for the Dungeons DLC do not meet this criteria. In the cases of the Iron Golem character and Netherite, as I have said, fall under WP:GAMEGUIDE because they are either concepts or game items. Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia, and I do not want to discourage you from adding to this place. I encourage you to contribute to Creeper (Minecraft), as that meets the WP:GNG for being significant enough to be its own article. I also suggest you to join the Minecraft Wiki and contribute there.

Speedy deletion declined: Alex (Minecraft) and Steve (Minecraft)

Hello SWinxy. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Alex (Minecraft) and Steve (Minecraft), pages you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Does not redirect to a different or incorrect namespace. Thank you. Jackmcbarn (talk) 01:43, 2 October 2020 (UTC)

Hi Jack, thank you for letting me know. I should have asked for help in this issue that regarded the pages in question. The pages have been moved to draftspace and presently redirected to Minecraft. The way I did it left the speedy deletion template on by mistake. Thanks again. SWinxy (talk) 14:53, 2 October 2020 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:Innerslothlogo.png

Thanks for uploading File:Innerslothlogo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 17:45, 11 October 2020 (UTC)

Among us non-notable edit

How is it not notable? It is in many sources, like the Faze jarvis ban. How is it not notable? The one and only 4thfile4thrank {talk} 17:34, 24 October 2020 (UTC)

@4thfile4thrank: Wikipedia is not a newspaper. This isn't really notable on it's own, and it doesn't really contribute to the article as a whole. SWinxy (talk) 17:45, 24 October 2020 (UTC)

How do you tell if it is? Many articles cover it, and I see multiple reliable sources showing that it occurred. The one and only 4thfile4thrank {talk} 19:51, 24 October 2020 (UTC)

Innersloth

There needs to be a innersloth article i feel — Preceding unsigned comment added by TigerScientist (talkcontribs) 20:30, 13 November 2020 (UTC)

@TigerScientist: There was a discussion that took place here, which resulted in a Redirect, and a review here, which failed to gain consensus. I admit this was pretty heated, but it doesn't look like the decision will be overturned anytime soon. The AfD had this to say for why it should be a redirect: Contested PROD. Non-notable video game developer failing WP:GNG with no reliable independent in-depth sources, such as WP:VG/RS. In particular, none are significant coverage of the subject. All the sources in the article are about the company's games and not the company, i.e. WP:NOTINHERITED. The three sources in lead citing the company have only a few sentences about the developer and rely heavily on developer's own words. It is possible to restart the discussion, but as the issues mentioned in the AfD need to be resolved first. SWinxy (talk) 20:52, 13 November 2020 (UTC)

Oh ok thanks i never knew about it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TigerScientist (talkcontribs) 20:58, 13 November 2020 (UTC)

Request Bihari Rajput

There were repeated image vandalism on the page by user Heba Aisha. Request you to respect the consensus on Bihari Rajput and WP:NPA by selectively targetting me on admin noticeboard. Anony20 (talk) 05:12, 2 December 2020 (UTC)

@Anony20:, there is no consensus on the article's talk page, among the multiple unnecessary discussion topics created. Two other people have commented on this issue on the talk page, but because someone agrees with you doesn't necessarily mean it's a consensus. See WP:CONS and read through it carefully. On the note of reading policies, you clearly haven't even read two sentences in on WP:NPA on what a personal attack even is: Do not make personal attacks anywhere on Wikipedia. Comment on content, not on the contributor... My report was not a personal attack, but instead bringing up an issue which you were a part of, in which I included links to diffs. SWinxy (talk) 05:42, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
Have a look at this[1][2] or to the RFC[3]. Read what other editors have to say on the image or read User:Satish/Castelist.Anony20 (talk) 06:33, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
You should have a look at WP:RFC guidelines to know better about the consensus. Anony20 (talk) 06:34, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
My guy, I linked you the policy about, consensus. WP:RFC is about asking for outside input concerning disputes, policies, guidelines or article content, and only after them ending can consensus be gauged. And if you're wondering, I did read the whole talk page on Bihari Rajput, and unless more people join in on the discussion or you two come to a consensus yourselves, there isn't a consensus. SWinxy (talk) 07:02, 2 December 2020 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:Abilgail Thorn.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Abilgail Thorn.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — Bilorv (talk) 22:48, 30 January 2021 (UTC)

Being a busy body

Stay off my talk page. You don't get to decide what gets to stay there and you have no business warning me. My edit sum got cut off last time, but I was going to to say this there. Valeince (talk) 18:36, 19 March 2021 (UTC)

Valeince, you are free to remove things on your own talk page (per WP:OWNTALK), and I should have known that. I would have preferred you to (instead of reverting my edit) either keep it, reply to it to disagree, or delete it manually with an acknowledgement in the edit summary. However, that does not give you free reign to be hostile to me or any other user, though. And you are? Go bother someone who cares, child or Leave me one more warning and I'll report you for harassment is not conducive to a healthy community.
In addition, I retract my warning because I mistakenly believed you had done these edits, and I apologize for that. SWinxy (talk) 19:15, 19 March 2021 (UTC)
Remember this next time you leave a templated warning on a talk page of a user who's been here much longer than you. If you talked to me like a human initially we could have worked this out. I don't normally respond to people whose only purpose here is to police what other people do. Especially if I didn't actually do anything worth warning. I find what you did less conducive to a healthy community than my somewhat emotional response. Valeince (talk) 19:22, 19 March 2021 (UTC)
Seniority ≠ superiority. I could argue that since I have more edits than you, you should automatically listen to me. If you wanted to talk, you should have replied to the warning, or immediately brought the conversation here. SWinxy (talk) 20:05, 19 March 2021 (UTC)

Mistakenly tagged CSD G13s

Hello, SWinxy,

I've restored almost all of the user pages that you tagged as CSD G13s. It would help, a lot, if you would undo all of the warnings you posted on editors' talk pages about your speedy deletion tagging either today or tomorrow. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 05:46, 13 June 2021 (UTC)

Phew. I reverted every note I made. I'm really sorry I did this. What should have I done instead? SWinxy (talk) 16:08, 13 June 2021 (UTC)
Hey, Liz, I feel a lot of regret on what I did yesterday, and I was wondering if you could give some clarification onto what I should have been doing in stale userspace drafts. Avoid active users like the plague? Should I only request speedy deletion if it's completely blank or has placeholder text (eg here)? Or do I just not at all attempt deletion and do the other things on the list (ie hist-merge or move-to-draftspace)? Thanks. SWinxy (talk) 00:15, 14 June 2021 (UTC)
Hi, SWinxy. I'm not Liz, but I stumbled upon the conversation here and was touched by your concern. I'm a regular commentator at MfD, where matters of draft (draftspace or userspace) deletion come up routinely, so I feel I can comment. I'd personally lean to not touching someone else's userspace except in very obvious cases of misuse, and if you do feel there's something you just can't leave be, talk to the user if they're active (possibly even if they aren't -- formerly high-activity users who have since left will sometimes have people watching their talk). I understand both how you feel about this and how Guettarda did; I'd take heed of his last comment, both that he apologises for his response, but that Wikipedia has a lot of people who don't really feel part of it and can be troubled by such things. Vaticidalprophet 07:34, 17 June 2021 (UTC)
@Vaticidalprophet: thanks for your comment. I've definitely come to learn to stay clear of userspace completely for now, and if I do see something, I'll just add a hand-written note on their talk page. I felt really bad about it. And, in a very ironic way, I myself felt troubled from this ordeal. But Guettarda's right--there are so many rules, and we often have to break them to discover some part of them even exists. In the end, things were restored and reverted. Liz seemed neutral about the whole thing, Guettarda apologized for going off on me, I apologized for starting this in the first place, and there was just one other user who responded who seemed OK (but a bit miffed towards Twinkle). Other than that I don't think anyone else noticed or really payed much attention to this. And for new users, I get how this might be for them. SWinxy (talk) 01:10, 18 June 2021 (UTC)

What? Adding more redirects is fine, as that helps people find what they're looking for faster. Usually adding categories to redirects are for maintenance purposes, or if the name of the redirect would fall under a category that the target doesn't. See WP:RCAT. AfC for Vaush

I recently created a draft for an article on Vaush. However, upon seeing that an article on him was recently deleted at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Vaush, I decided to put the article through the AfC process instead of moving it straight to mainspace. If you have any comments feel free to discuss the draft page at its talk page Draft talk:Vaush. Thanks. Alduin2000 (talk) 20:35, 22 July 2021 (UTC)

Awesome! Thanks for letting me know. It was deleted from his lack of notability, and I'm not hopeful it will make it through AfC. But the sources you've found are great though. Sad they didn't exist when I moved the page.
The previous one was also vandalized to hell and back, within hours of it being moved (,y guess is that someone tipped a group off to vandalize it?). I knew that was going to happen so I requested a preventative request, but it was denied. It was protected a few hours later lmao. SWinxy (talk) 21:36, 22 July 2021 (UTC)

Unfortunately, those don't really rise to the level of where we would use revision deletion. It's obviously silly vandalism, but it's pretty petty and trivial — we would use revdel for things like explosive legal allegations (e.g. using the talk page to claim that somebody had committed rape or murder) or doxxing (e.g. using the talk page to post somebody's real-life address, phone number, credit card number or e-mail address), but not just for minor vandalism. "I think it was the right thing to do because it removed original research." So, in order to be able to properly use the (deleted) poem, would it be sufficient to find an online poetry collection that contains it? (That should not be hard.) ...Or would I need to find and cite a document showing Asimov himself explaining the linkage between the story and the poem? (That strikes me as very hard, because (likely) Asimov would not have felt the need to explicate a connection that (IMHO) seems quite plain. Silverhill (talk) 01:22, 28 March 2022 (UTC)

@Silverhill: So in this case you would want some source to describe the connection to the poem. It doesn't have to be anything much, just an explicit connection. SWinxy (talk) 04:02, 28 March 2022 (UTC)

A small question regarding Vaush

Hello! You reverted my changes in Vaush's article, saying "YouTube videos are unsuitable". I can't help but wonder why my use of Youtube links as sources is considered unsuitable, when there are multiple other Youtube links used as sources in the article. Thanks! Santiago Arderíus (talk) 10:20, 16 April 2022 (UTC)

This must have been a while ago, so I don't remember which diff it was. In general, self-published sources are disallowed unless some criteria is met. I've not seen the page in a while so I can't speak for it's current state, but other links were removed afterwards for violating the policy. I'm not a fan of the 'everything I've been canceled for' link, and I consider it self-serving. Lmk if you have any other questions. SWinxy (talk) 17:06, 16 April 2022 (UTC)

Changes to the image borked something

Hi SWinxy. Would you please be more specific and clarify what you mean when you say, in this edit, that: "Changes to the image borked something". The image changes display without any problems at my end, so I have no idea what you are referring to. Thanks. — Epipelagic (talk) 18:47, 30 July 2022 (UTC)

Ah yeah. For some reason the [[File:]] was missing the remaining ]], which oddly didn't cause issues in the article, but did on the image preview. Should've said that, my bad. SWinxy (talk) 19:03, 30 July 2022 (UTC)

TFDH

For the record, if a discussion at TFD is closed as "merge", then when the merge is complete the page is usually redirected to the target template with {{r from merge}} to indicate this. Following this, the template can just be removed from the WP:TFDH list. It's not the end of the world, since I can redirect just as easily as you can, but since every template in this particular list had that discussion outcome, I figured I would mention it. It also saves potential confusion if a passing admin deletes instead of redirecting because they are not paying close enough attention (and that includes me, this morning, prompting me to leave you this note). Primefac (talk) 06:24, 8 August 2022 (UTC)

Oh shoot. I've been clearing the backlog with the assumption that it was "merge and delete". I'll make a mental note for this from now on. Thanks for telling me. SWinxy (talk) 15:20, 8 August 2022 (UTC)

Module:Taxobox

You seem to be attempting to bypass {{Taxobox/core}} in creating this module. This is highly undesirable, as {{Taxobox/core}} is used not only by the minority of articles that now use manual taxoboxes, but also by all the automated taxoboxes, which ensures consistency across all kinds of taxobox. See Wikipedia:Automated taxobox system/map.

The whole taxobox system, manual and automated, is highly complex and integrated. Please discuss what you are attempting to do before releasing anything, even the sandbox versions. Peter coxhead (talk) 16:33, 24 August 2022 (UTC)

Hey there. I've gotten a similar caution from someone else. At the moment, I'm looking to make a functioning draft before I go ahead and start a discussion. The whole problem I have with taxoboxes is that they are wikitables masquerading as an infobox. I understand that it is an intricate system, and my attempt would be to make it less so. SWinxy (talk) 17:46, 24 August 2022 (UTC)
{{Taxobox/core}} is what produces the display for all kinds of taxobox, manual or automated. It uses a table with class="infobox biota". Infoboxes are tables, whether produced via wikitext syntax or via constructed HTML. Anyway, absolutely do not attempt to change one of the drivers of {{Taxobox/core}} in a way that bypasses it. This would be very, very undesirable, since consistency is vital and all taxobox-wide changes are made by changing {{Taxobox/core}}. It could doubtless be altered to use Module:Infobox, but {{Taxobox/core}} has many special cases and checks – what would actually be gained? Peter coxhead (talk) 08:16, 25 August 2022 (UTC)
I think you should either use Draft space pages, pages in your own user space or create "sandbox2" pages to make drastic changes to such key templates. Otherwise you block other users from testing minor changes in the sandboxes. Peter coxhead (talk) 13:11, 25 August 2022 (UTC)
Hey Peter. In case you haven't noticed, {{Taxobox}} has two sandboxes (/sandbox and /sanxbox2). I am using the sandbox for it's intended purpose, and I am not blocking anyone from using the other sandbox. Sandboxes are for experimentation, big or small. You reverting my testing is disruptive to that experimentation, so I have to ask you to please stop. In short, my effort is to make a module that will encompass manual and automated taxoboxes so it's more contained and less spaghetti monster. I will explain further the issues and such on the taxobox talk page, but that is for later. Getting me to explain everything now when it's not done is like demanding an airplane designer to give over early prototype sketches to use for the flight manual, then getting upset when dozens of planes crash. SWinxy (talk) 18:24, 25 August 2022 (UTC)
Infoboxes are also Wikitables so that difference isn't particularly important. The reason the taxoboxes don't use the infobox infrastructure is that taxoboxes were created earlier.
As for why discussion first is worthwhile, it can avoid wasted effort. Converting templates used on hundreds of thousands of pages must done with caution and needs to allow for all variants. There is already a prototype module for taxoboxes (Module:Biota infobox) and it is currently used for a small subset of taxoboxes (e.g. {{paraphyletic group}}, {{population taxobox}}, {{hybridbox}}). —  Jts1882 | talk  10:09, 26 August 2022 (UTC)

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. Draft:Gather (metaverse platform)

Hello SWinxy, I have resubmitted my draft article Draft:Gather (metaverse platform) for review. As I said on the talk page, though, I realized that "metaverse platform" in the title is hammy. Maybe "Gather (collaboration software)" is better - it needs to be distinguished from the defunct social media website Gather.com. What do you think? Qzekrom (she/her • talk) 05:21, 11 July 2023 (UTC)

Hi hi. DABing with "collaboration software" seems more accurate, yes. The title is not ambiguous, so a hatnote isn't necessary. I may or may not be the one to review the submission again, but the new source looks good. SWinxy (talk) 15:24, 11 July 2023 (UTC)

V Programming Language draft

Hi SWinxy! Have resubmitted Draft:V_(programming_language). Per your comment, rewrote sections. Removed YouTube links and any GitHub or links to the site of the language, which could reasonably be considered superfluous.

Yes, you are correct about the 2008 reference to a different V language, which is incorrectly linked to this one from 2019. This linking seems to remain, though referring to different languages. Also, when referencing articles of other programming languages (like Zig, Red, Crystal...), the draft of V appears to be under tighter constraints. Hoping that the changes are acceptable. Your time and service is greatly appreciated.Wukuendo (talk) 10:29, 18 July 2023 (UTC)

Template:Infobox artwork

While there are a large number that use it incorrectly, there are a *lot* of infoboxes that do have left or right as their argument for painting_alignment. For starters (found at random): Lilith (painting), Lime Green Icicle Tower, Mogao Christian painting. Could you please revert and start a discussion on the talk page for the infobox?Naraht (talk) 22:46, 26 August 2023 (UTC)

Hey, Naraht. Here's a little more info on why I made the change. The only thing |painting_alignment= changed was to the CSS float: value of the infobox div. The valid values for it in CSS are left (used only twice), right (infoboxes already have this), none (makes the div a part of the body), and inherit (what the parent's float value is). Setting it to right has no effect. Only Self-Portrait with a Sunflower and Peasant Girl, spinning made use of the parameter. Lilith (painting), Lime Green Icicle Tower, etc. set it to no effect. Draft:DXVK

DXVK is a truly massive project enabling Linux users to run thousands of Windows games, it's used by Intel (!), it's used by Valve (!!) to make Steam handheld possible and I'm sorry for not finding the "right" sources for WP because not a single outlet has bothered to give it enough light. You may as well delete the bloody draft because I give up. I cannot invent sources which you'll like. Artem S. Tashkinov (talk) 08:48, 21 October 2023 (UTC)

I'm sorry the declining wasn't something you'd expected, but that was 10 months ago. If you would like a second opinion, you're free to resubmit the draft. SWinxy (talk) 16:09, 21 October 2023 (UTC)

1898 French legislative election

Apologies to remove your edit, but unfortunately the fr.wiki article is deeply flawed (its results table doesn't match the source, nor is it consistent with the infobox), so while there may be some useful content there, I would be a bit wary of pointing people to it as a resource for expansion given the issues (see this comment from a French editor).

As an aside, thank you for being one of the few people to point out that I was *not* ruining the articles :) Cheers, Number 57 01:14, 13 January 2024 (UTC)

I'd been following this saga a bit since I saw the outrageous Twitter thread. I had assumed the French Wikipedia would have excellent sourcing for French history wide enough to include that topic. The WMF may need to do more outreach for that area of expertise in France to get editors working on improving it. Thanks for your rigorous work in upholding WP:V. Speedy deletion nomination of File:Nex Benedict.png

A tag has been placed on File:Nex Benedict.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a non-free file from a commercial source (e.g. Associated Press, Getty Images), where the file itself is not the subject of sourced commentary. If you can explain why the file can be used under the non-free content guidelines, please add the appropriate non-free use tag and rationale.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Melmann 22:12, 1 March 2024 (UTC)

Any RS supported text?

Hi, I made an OR-free NPOV caption for your photo and left the original at Wikimedia alone, though I encourage you to fix that up too. What would really be a help is if you can find RS sources that report on the alleged protest on April 4 at Collect Pond, and write a sentence or two of text for the article.

NewsAndEventsGuy (talk) 18:40, 8 May 2024 (UTC)

There might be some source confirming this, but it's a fact so bland and mundane to mention how people were sorted that I'm not confident there is one. The pro-Trump protesters were on the south side of the park, which was bisected east-to-west with barriers, and the anti-Trump protesters were on the north side. Is your concern more so that you don't want to label everyone pictured in the image as pro-Trump? That there were pro-Trump flags and MAGA hats makes me feel like we should point that out in the caption. SWinxy (talk) 19:12, 8 May 2024 (UTC)
If you can't find RSs reporting on the event then your original photos and your original opinion about what they represent do not belong anywhere in the project, sorry. NewsAndEventsGuy (talk) 19:52, 8 May 2024 (UTC)
It's not an opinion to say there are pro-Trump flags and supporters in this photo. Does the photo in this section of Trumpism require a citation that those photographed are pro-Trump supporters? What's the line here? Do I need a citation to say that people are present here, or that this is even at Collect Pond Park? This line you're drawing for the caption, applied to all images on the project, would do away with thousands of captions that neutrally describe what the contents of photos are by requiring a citation for any statement. SWinxy (talk) 20:56, 8 May 2024 (UTC)
That's why we have some editors dedicated to clean up tasks. But there's a huge backlog of junk to be dealt with. Meanwhile, see WP:IMAGEOR.... If you want to constructively try to form a consensus for acceptable use, suggest you try the WP:ORN. If you can win a consensus there, I won't stand int he way, though I'll offer my comments in any such discussion. please ping me if you try out that or other WP:Dispute resolution venue. DYK for Hal Malchow

On 25 May 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Hal Malchow, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Hal Malchow consulted for every Democratic presidential nominee from 1988 through 2004? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Hal Malchow. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Hal Malchow), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Technoblade voice clip embed

I just saw the new voice clip you added to the article. From what I understand, its purpose for the article seems to be something close to the Wikipedia Voice Intro Project, but is there a reason you selected a recording of a Discord voice conversation as the audio file? Curious to learn more; the edit summary didn't give me many hints. Cheers, u|RayDeeUx (contribs | talk page) 04:07, 5 June 2024 (UTC)

RayDeeUx Yeah, it's kinda like that project. Ideally we would have a recording that is in line with the other audio introductions, but since he passed away we can't produce a freely-licensed clip ourselves. A freely-licensed clip of him speaking may aid the reader like an image would. Since I recorded some games with him, that's what I have and what I can give away. I don't think we can get an audio clip of him speaking with a fair use argument; there are already two images with them and I've never seen fair use audio files not used for song samples. I could be wrong, and there could be better freely-licensed audio clips out there.
Since you've been an active contributor to his article, what do you think of it? Yay? Nay? SWinxy (talk) 18:39, 5 June 2024 (UTC)
I was originally going to suggest clipping any given YouTube video of his, but given the whole ambiguity around fair use policies on Wikipedia, what's there right now is the next best thing. I'm also in favor of replacing it with a shorter clip *only* if a fair use rationale can be made anytime in the future—similar to a past approach with waiting for a reliable source rationale before including The Daily Iowan as a citation in the article.
TL;DR: Yay, and also welcoming shorter options if it can fall under fair use. Cheers, u|RayDeeUx (contribs | talk page) 20:55, 5 June 2024 (UTC)

Tyra Hunter

Looking at the history of Death of Tyra Hunter, you have reverted the victim's deadname into the article five times, in apparent opposition to community consensus (sorry, I got that wrong!). You have not posted to the talk page a single time. To me, not previously involved with this article, this looks an awful lot like edit-warring on a contentious topic. -- Maddy from Celeste (WAVEDASH) 12:41, 7 October 2024 (UTC)

It's not against community consensus to include the deadname for deceased trans/nb/gnc people; the guideline applies to living people (and I would extend that to recently deceased, i.e. covered by BDP). I'll start a discussion on the talk page. SWinxy (talk) 18:42, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
I'm sorry about that; I totally had forgotten this little detail while being busy doing non-Wikipedia things the last several months. Thank you for your well-reasoned post on the talk page! -- Maddy from Celeste (WAVEDASH) 21:04, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
I completely understand; it's a very sensitive issue!, and one that I shouldn't be so flippant as to revert so much without discussion. SWinxy (talk) 21:30, 7 October 2024 (UTC)

Deletion discussion about Jessica Reed Kraus

Hello SWinxy, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

While your contributions are appreciated, I wanted to let you know that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, Jessica Reed Kraus, should be deleted, as I am not sure that it is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia in its current form. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jessica Reed Kraus (2nd nomination).

Deletion discussions usually run for seven days and are not votes. Our guide about effectively contributing to such discussions is worth a read. The most common issue in these discussions is notability, but it's not the only aspect that may be discussed; read the nomination and any other comments carefully before you contribute to the discussion. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Ibjaja055}}. And don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

Administrator Elections: Candidate instructions

Administrator Elections | Instructions for candidates

Thank you for choosing to run in the October 2024 administrator elections. This bulletin contains some important information about the next stages of the election process.

As a reminder, the schedule of the election is:

  • October 15–21: SecurePoll setup phase
  • October 22–24: Discussion phase
  • October 25–31: SecurePoll voting phase
  • November 1–?: Scrutineering phase

We are currently in the SecurePoll setup phase. Your candidate subpage will remain closed to questions and discussion. However, this is an excellent opportunity for you to recruit nominators (if you want them) and have them place their nomination statements, and a good time for you to answer the standard three questions, if you have not done so already. We recommend you spend the SecurePoll setup phase from October 15–21 getting your candidate page polished and ready for the next phase.

The discussion phase will take place from October 22–24. Your candidate subpage will open to the public and they will be permitted to discuss you and ask you formal questions, in the same style as a request for adminship (RfA). Please make sure you are around on those dates to answer the formal questions in a timely manner.

On October 25, we will start the voting phase. The candidate subpages will close again to public questions and discussion, and everyone will have a week to use the SecurePoll software to vote, which uses a secret ballot. Anyone can see who has voted, but not who they voted for. You are permitted and encouraged to vote in the election, including voting for yourself. Please note that the vote tallies cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see your tally during the election. The suffrage requirements are different from those at RfA.

Once voting concludes, we will begin the scrutineering phase, which will last for an indeterminate amount of time, perhaps a week or two. Once everything is certified, the results will be posted on the main election page. In order to be granted adminship, you must have received at least 70% support, calculated as support ÷ (support + oppose). As this is a vote and not a consensus, there are no bureaucrat discussions ("'crat chats").

Any questions or issues can be asked on the election talk page. Thank you for your participation as a candidate, and best of luck.

You're receiving this message because you are a candidate in the October 2024 administrator elections.
