Gay-themed Talmudic sages?
Hi Yoninah, please see: Talk:Timeline of LGBT Jewish history#Allegations that Torah true classical scholars supported and implied pro gay themes and memes is ludicrous. What do you say? IZAK (talk) 23:27, 2 July 2019 (UTC)
Woohoo
Prep 6
Yoninah, are you planning to replace the hook you moved from prep 6? Because I would like to get on with promoting the set. Gatoclass (talk) 12:44, 3 July 2019 (UTC)
- @Gatoclass: I did replace it, but now you pulled the last hook! Yoninah (talk) 12:56, 3 July 2019 (UTC)
- Unfortunately I had to Yoninah, because I couldn't see an alternative. It means more work for me because I now have to look for a suitable replacement (unless you want to add one). I just didn't want to have to go looking for two hooks to replace if it could be avoided, because I tend to be too fussy and spend too much time on it. Gatoclass (talk) 13:16, 3 July 2019 (UTC)
- I see you've replaced the quirky already. Good work, I can get on and finish my review of the set now, thank you :) Gatoclass (talk) 13:20, 3 July 2019 (UTC)
DYK for Tito's Tacos
On 4 July 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Tito's Tacos, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Tito's Tacos of Culver City, California, has sold the same hard-shell tacos (pictured) filled with shredded beef, iceberg lettuce, and grated cheddar cheese for 60 years? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Tito's Tacos. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Tito's Tacos), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
No spiritual leader?
Hi Yoninah,
I'm curious why you added this text regarding "no spiritual leader" - was there some source for that, or did you base it on the list of rabbis given below the text? Jayjg (talk) 21:11, 8 July 2019 (UTC)
- @Jayjg: I saw in a source that there was a gap between rabbis. I was not aware of Rabbi Listfield's tenure; thank you for adding that source. Yoninah (talk) 08:44, 9 July 2019 (UTC)
prep 1 > queue1?
I've been through the hooks/articles, ready to move to queue if you aren't still using prep 1! No hurry, though. --valereee (talk) 19:01, 9 July 2019 (UTC)
- @Valereee: fine with me. Prep 2 can move to queue too! Yoninah (talk) 20:07, 9 July 2019 (UTC)
Rats and helicopters
Hi, Yoninah. I had looked at Prep 1 earlier, and thought that the dog who could kill 200 rats per hour was a terrible (or would that be terrierible?) quirky choice, and that the photo of the White House lawn was an uninteresting image to use for the stolen helicopter story. When I checked back, I saw that you'd taken care of both of these. So, I just thought I'd stop by and thank you for those, as well as everything else you do around DYK. All of your hard work is appreciated. MANdARAX • XAЯAbИAM 09:17, 11 July 2019 (UTC)
- @Mandarax: why, thank you! I hope, though, that Tiny the Wonder will remain in the image slot in this day of animal rights :) Yoninah (talk) 10:34, 11 July 2019 (UTC)
Can you Help?
Greetings, Yoninah. You helped me years ago with an article and I wondered if you could look at another one I'm just finishing up.Trouver (talk)
- @Trouver: I'll try. Could you send me a link? Yoninah (talk) 23:01, 13 July 2019 (UTC)
Episcia cupreata
Sorry for any trouble with my bad wording of the hook and forgetting to add pictured. Thanks for promoting and fixing. SL93 (talk) 00:15, 14 July 2019 (UTC)
- @SL93: thanks. Does it look all right to you now? Yoninah (talk) 00:27, 14 July 2019 (UTC)
- It does. SL93 (talk) 00:27, 14 July 2019 (UTC)
- @SL93: great, thanks. Yoninah (talk) 00:28, 14 July 2019 (UTC)
- It does. SL93 (talk) 00:27, 14 July 2019 (UTC)
thank you!
Yoninah, thank you for your help with my DYK nomination for the Janet Lee Stevens page. It finally made it onto there! CallMeBarcode (talk) 00:42, 14 July 2019 (UTC)
Dollar Bar song – 6pm Wayne and Shuster
I came across this amusing bit:
http://a-six-demon-bag.blogspot.com/2015/04/600pm-wayne-shuster.html
It seems to be an Australian indie band's look at nostalgic TV from the 1980s (when W&S was syndicated internationally). W&S features strongly with the RTBOMT title and catchphrase in the chorus. There's media coverage of the album at themusic.com. Not sure if this is notable enough for inclusion. Reidgreg (talk) 07:37, 17 July 2019 (UTC)

Psalms
I began work on Psalm 8, - take your time, too long to be expanded 5* anyway. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:11, 18 July 2019 (UTC)
Other topic, but trying to spare you another thread. Hallo Ü-Wagen. The original hook talked about the participation of several groups, - and was found too verbose. I had hoped the image, of a women talking seriously to children, would transport the character of the program, for which the word "show" seems somehow misleading. Sure, you don't see every detail on the pic in stamp size, but outdoors, easy-going and communication. Please consider. The hook is ALT9, - I don't want to reopen that can of wording.--Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:06, 20 July 2019 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt: OK, done.
- Thanks for your extreme patience on the Psalms articles. I am in the thick of editing several books this month and really don't have the head for anything other than DYK promotions right now. Yoninah (talk) 22:18, 20 July 2019 (UTC)
- Thank you, and if I learned one thing here it's patience ;) - The article on Psalm 8 is long, so no DYK anyway. Just the Hebrew text would be an improvement, - or some day teach me to do it. Psalm 9 tomorrow for me, bedtime now. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:23, 20 July 2019 (UTC)
- Psalm 10 today. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:03, 28 July 2019 (UTC)
That time the President delayed signing the bill until the lobbyist's baby was delivered
Yoninah, I was putting up an article when I found this delightful detail" President Ford delayed the signing ceremony for the Jackson–Vanik amendment because Mark E. Talisman's wife was in labour, Ford postponed the signing ceremony until the baby was safely delivered. If you choose to do an AfD; I'll upgrade the article. - @E.M.Gregory: do you mean you want me to nominate these articles for DYK? I'll be happy to do so in a few days. I'm very busy with outside work now, so I don't think I'll have time to do research for these articles this week. Best, Yoninah (talk) 11:21, 21 July 2019 (UTC)

- Just pointing out the the National Gallery and the Smithsonian are separate institutions that share a Mall.
- (Jewish exhibits set records for attendance at 2 museums
Polakoff, Joseph. The New York Jewish Week (1973-1985), Manhattan edition; New York, N.Y. [New York, N.Y]27 Jan 1984: 27. ): " WASHINGTON -- Attendance records at two Washington museums have been shattered by exhibitions of ancient Torah scrolls and their adornments, synagogue furnishings, books, paintings, children's drawings, and violins that the Nazis had seized in central Europe for their intended ridicule of Jews as "an extinct race."
"The Precious Legacy: Judaic Treasures from the Czechoslovak State Collections" attracted more than 110,000 viewers between Nov. 9 and Jan. 1 at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Natural History. That is the largest number to visit an exhibition there since that building opened in 1917. The exhibit closed on New Year's Day but will be shown in six other U.S. cities in 1984-85.
At the B'nai B'rith Museum, a companion exhibit from the collection entitled "Image and Reality; Jewish Life in Terezin" that features children's drawings from the infamous concentration camp was reported as drawing about 14,000 persons in the same period. The exhibit there will continue until April 1. The objects in the two exhibits are being shown in the United States for the first time.
Debrah Collier, National Museum security coordinator for "The Precious Legacy," said in an interview that crowd control regulations were invoked from its start; limiting attendance officially at 256 at any one time in the exhibition rooms to allow for better viewing. But, she said, the number was allowed to rise to at least a hundred more "without a safety hazard" when the crowds were largest.
Preliminary figures indicated the exhibition's daily average for its 53 days (the Smithsonian closed on Christmas Day) was 2,074.
"There were no incidents of any kind," Collier said. "Everybody was very orderly."
However, neither the total figure nor the daily average attendance for the "Legacy" reached the numbers that visited exhibits over the years at the National Gallery of Art here. The highest daily average at the gallery was for the Mona Lisa. It averaged 20,741 in 25 days in January and February 1963.
"The Precious Legacy" will be shown in Miami Beach Jan. 23-March 18; at the Jewish Museum in New York City April 15-August 26; San Diego, Sept. 22-Nov. 11; Detroit, March 12-May 15, 1985, and Hartford, Conn., June 3-July 29, 1985. "

DYK for Mandy Moore (choreographer)
On 23 July 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Mandy Moore (choreographer), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. Special occasion hook
I noticed the special occasion hook slot in prep 1, but I was wondering if you think Template:Did you know nominations/National Peasants' Party should have the image slot now that the copyright tag has been taken care of. SL93 (talk) 23:40, 25 July 2019 (UTC)
- @SL93: thanks for letting me know. I juggled around some prep sets to accommodate it. BTW perhaps you didn't realize that you added a third political hook to this set? I moved it to a different set. Best, Yoninah (talk) 00:04, 26 July 2019 (UTC)
- I was looking for other media articles in the set since it was a film. I wasn't thinking of what the film was based around. SL93 (talk) 00:06, 26 July 2019 (UTC)
- @SL93: No prob. I'll try to add a few more lighter hooks to the set. Yoninah (talk) 00:07, 26 July 2019 (UTC)
- I understand your point about first woman to do something and I went back to change a hook that I nominated a few hours ago. I appreciate your help with DYK. SL93 (talk) 00:35, 26 July 2019 (UTC)

Wayne and Shuster
Thank you. Just ... thank you ... for taking them to DYK. In a perfect universe, somewhere would be an existing video of "Rinse the Blood Off My Toga" suitable for a lead DYK hook. They were so much silly fun to watch. Decades later, I had a friend who named their pets Wayne and Shuster. When the animal Wayne died, they got a pet named Simon. — Maile (talk) 13:55, 27 July 2019 (UTC)
- @Maile66: thanks! Actually, I'd never heard of them before Reidgreg's nomination of Canadian comedians with a picture of them. I watched the videos and found them hysterically funny for us "literate" people. Best, Yoninah (talk) 21:04, 27 July 2019 (UTC)
- I've had great fun writing about comedy (especially after the first two big articles I wrote, on a mass shooting and a serial killer). BTW, List of Canadian comedians is in prep 2, so maybe on the main page for the 29th. – Reidgreg (talk) 22:18, 27 July 2019 (UTC)
- Somebody moved it to Prep 3. There are some on that list I didn't know were Canadian. A true story about Strange Brew. I first saw the movie at a university theater in Texas, filled to capacity with mostly-male students who were fans of SCTV. Besides which, the radio stations in Texas kept running the Bob and Doug McKenzie routines. They were very, very popular in Texas. My companion was a visiting Canadian woman in their age group, who had never seen the SCTV stuff. And every time someone on the screen ended a sentence with, "Eh?", the audience would explode in laughter. My companion didn't get the humor in the movie, and didn't know why the audience thought the hoser jokes and "Eh?" were particularly funny. Eh?— Maile (talk) 02:00, 28 July 2019 (UTC)
- Wayne and Shuster are probably the most successful pair/partnership of Canadian comedians, and Bob & Doug the most recognized pair of Canadian comic characters. Maybe next year, I'd like to do a DYK on them. My favourite take on the Canadian eh is that it's a consensus-builder. The theory is that Canadians are too modest to force an opinion on another person, so they subconsciously add an "eh?" on the end to make it a question and invite agreement. BTW, feel free to jump in at Wikipedia talk:Did you know#Prep 3 where the hook for the list is under discussion. – Reidgreg (talk) 16:19, 29 July 2019 (UTC)

Johann Münzberg
If we don't show the bridge, don't you think we should add place and/or date? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:17, 30 July 2019 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt: I don't think saying the bridge was built in 1855 adds anything to the hookiness. Since Münzberg is the bolded subject, I could add "...that 19th-century industrialist Johann Münzberg ..." Yoninah (talk) 22:21, 30 July 2019 (UTC)
- I don't know, not enthusiastic about a full century ;) - I thought an image would say more than many words. The hook doesn't tell that at the time, such a bridge over a major river was quite an undertaking. Without image, the only thing which could tell that it's something special is the name, no? Could we say "over the Elbe" which readers may be known from Dresden and Hamburg? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:30, 30 July 2019 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt: Sure. Yoninah (talk) 22:31, 30 July 2019 (UTC)

Yoninah, I've just moved this nomination, which you pulled from prep, to the Nominations page, since noms pulled from prep are by definition no longer approved and shouldn't be placed on the Approved page. Once they again attain a tick, the bot will move them back. Every once in a while I move previous approved noms back to the Nominations page if they've run into issues that should prevent promotion. Thanks for all you do keeping the nominations and preps going. BlueMoonset (talk) 15:39, 2 August 2019 (UTC)

Muhammad ibn Rushayd at prep 2
Well done including Muhammad ibn Rushayd in prep 2. I'm not sure if it's your intention or just coincidence, but I just realized the hook talks about pilgrimage to Mecca (Hajj), and 11 August is one of the Hajj days this year [1] so it's a nice date for this hook . HaEr48 (talk) 12:47, 8 August 2019 (UTC)
- @HaEr48: nice coincidence! And you wrote a nice article, thanks. Yoninah (talk) 15:24, 8 August 2019 (UTC)
DYK opinion
The reviewer of Template:Did you know nominations/Dardanus deformis (currently in prep 2) stated that they thought the image wasn't clear. I personally disagree, but I'm seeing if you agree with that opinion and think it shouldn't have the image slot. SL93 (talk) 22:15, 8 August 2019 (UTC)
- @SL93: yeah, I kinda agree. I'll move it out. Yoninah (talk) 22:21, 8 August 2019 (UTC)
- OK. That's fine. Thank you. SL93 (talk) 22:22, 8 August 2019 (UTC)
Warming stripes hook
Hey, Yoninah! Back home now and able to give a chunk of time today so I'm starting to review stuff in queue, and I saw this hook is in a non-image slot in Queue 1. As nom I'm involved, but I was wondering if you'd be willing to use this in a later image slot? I thought it was a hook that particularly needed its image since it's about data visualization. No big deal if you just don't want it in an image slot, but I thought I'd ask. --valereee (talk) 12:33, 11 August 2019 (UTC)
- @Valereee: I thought the image was good but the hook was terribly repetitive ("global"..."global"..."warming"..."warming"..."stripes"..."stripes"). As you can see, I edited the hook a bit. If you're okay with the piped link in the hook, you could move it to Prep 5 now with the image. Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 12:37, 11 August 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks, I'm going to ask Cwmhiraeth, too, since she originally promoted it! --valereee (talk) 12:45, 11 August 2019 (UTC)
Song title in Floy Little Bartlett
Do you have a reference to support changing "of" to "O'"? I reverted a previous edit that made the same change, and I noted on the article's talk page that the source in the citation has "of" in the title. If you have a source that supports the change, I think it should be cited in the article. Eddie Blick (talk) 02:09, 13 August 2019 (UTC)
- I originally changed it because the image of the sheet music cover clearly has "O'". The Thematic Cue Sheet PDF (reference 9) clearly has it as well. SL93 (talk) 06:17, 13 August 2019 (UTC)
- @Teblick: I also saw the song title clearly written this way in the sheet music. Yoninah (talk) 09:17, 13 August 2019 (UTC)

DYK nom problem
I'm not sure who to address, but assuming you're an administrator, but since you have tons of DYK experience, you're it. :-) I just created the Template:Did you know nominations/Joseph Labarge, but when I listed it on the nomination page, under August 10, it appears as a red link. After purging the page and other efforts it still appears as a red link in the listing. When I created and saved the nomination everything seemed to be okay. Any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated. -- Gwillhickers (talk) 19:19, 14 August 2019 (UTC)
- Okay, I simply 'recreated' the template and everything seems to be okay in the nomination listing. Can't figure why it didn't work the first time. Best, -- Gwillhickers (talk) 19:38, 14 August 2019 (UTC)
- @Gwillhickers: Glad it worked out. For technical questions, I usually ask Mandarax. Best, Yoninah (talk) 20:09, 14 August 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks for your confidence in me, Yoninah. As for the redlink, Gwillhickers, the first template used "Labarge" with a lower case "b". The "recreated" one has an upper case "B", which is how it was listed on the nominations page. I've patched the new one to use the correct capitalization for all of the template parameters, and listed the old one for deletion. MANdARAX • XAЯAbИAM 23:42, 14 August 2019 (UTC)

divided
I may have a language proplem. If a choir is divided in four voices, would you say "among four voices"? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:28, 15 August 2019 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt: Yes. It's not a math equation, dividing a pizza into eight pieces. A choir (people) are divided among four voices. Yoninah (talk) 22:57, 15 August 2019 (UTC)
- Our article Divisi says "divided into", and it is math, no? You have, let's says, 50 people, and divide them into 20 voices (some of 2, some of 3 people), no? - Any example for "among"? - Bedtime. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:09, 15 August 2019 (UTC)
DYK for Mark E. Talisman
On 16 August 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Mark E. Talisman, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that President Gerald Ford delayed the signing ceremony for the 1974 Jackson–Vanik amendment because Mark E. Talisman's wife was in labor? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Mark E. Talisman. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Mark E. Talisman), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
Another missing-person DYK nom of mine
This time it's Disappearance of Toni Sharpless (article here). I'm shooting for next Friday, the 10th anniversary date. I actually nominated it a few days ago, but no one's bitten, so I thought you might be able to take a look. Daniel Case (talk) 02:16, 17 August 2019 (UTC)
Question about image in DYK nomination
The reviewer of Template:Did you know nominations/Slender glass lizard suggested that I add the image to my DYK nomination, but I don't know if there is a way to format it how it would have been if I originally nominated it with the image. SL93 (talk) 19:23, 19 August 2019 (UTC)
- @SL93: the image is correctly formatted. It doesn't matter if it's in the middle of the nomination. Just add "(pictured)" to the hooks you want and the promoter will decide whether or not to use the image. Yoninah (talk) 19:26, 19 August 2019 (UTC)
- Now I see that it is. I guess I was confused because it wasn't placed on top. Also thank you for the hook clarification. SL93 (talk) 19:28, 19 August 2019 (UTC)
DYK for A Shakespearean Baseball Game
On 21 August 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article A Shakespearean Baseball Game, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, A Shakespearean Baseball Game), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Yoninah, were you planning to return to this nomination, or should I put out a call for a new reviewer? Please let me know if the latter. Many thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 15:20, 21 August 2019 (UTC)

DYK Nomination requests for: Samuel Adler (composer) and/or Seventh Army Symphony Orchestra
DYK Nomination Request: Samuel Adler (composer) and/or Seventh Army Symphony Orchestra
Ciao Yoninah: It is always a pleasure to learn something new on Wikipedia's "Did You Know" column. BRAVO to for your inspired efforts to enlighten the world! Perhaps if you have extra time you might consider nominating the articles Samuel Adler (composer) and/or Seventh Army Symphony Orchestra for inclusion in the column sometime in the future.
Adler is one of America's leading 20th century composers. He was a Jewish immigrant from Nazi Germany who escaped the Holocaust and was drafted into the U.S. Army immediately after completing his graduate studies at Harvard University with Aaron Copland. Upon returning to his native Germany in 1952 as a Corporal in the Army, he found his homeland in ruins and convinced his superior officers to establish the Seventh Army Symphony Orchestra in an effort to support America's cultural diplomacy initiatives through Europe in the post World War II era. The orchestra is the only symphonic ensemble ever established within the U. S. Army. Its instrumentalists were all active members of the Army who were also professionally educated musicians of the highest caliber. Their mission was not to wage war, however, but to promote international peace through shared cultural interactions between nations as some of America's first "cultural ambassadors" .
One possible "hook" into theses articles might be:
1) Did you know that the American composer Samuel Adler founded the Seventh Army Symphony Orchestra to support cultural diplomacy after World war II? Or perhaps more suitably... 2) Did you know that the Seventh Army Symphony Orchestra was founded by the American composer Samuel Adler to further cultural diplomacy after World War II ?
These are merely a few possibilities. As a highly experienced editor, I'm certain that you can think of additional possibilities which might be more suitable. Feel free to use your imaginations! Thanks again for your kind consideration and best wishes for your continued success on Wikipedia. Ciao! 2620:65:8000:A203:AD18:1901:87DF:68F7 (talk) 17:42, 24 August 2019 (UTC)GCU
- @2620:65:8000:A203:AD18:1901:87DF:68F7: Is there some reason why you're not logging in and choosing a username, in which case you could nominate these articles yourself? You seem to be a pretty good writer and hook writer. Best, Yoninah (talk) 17:44, 24 August 2019 (UTC)
Edit conflict
It appears that we edit conflicted when each of us moved one hook over to another prep. SL93 (talk) 00:32, 25 August 2019 (UTC)
- @SL93: OK, I reversed your move. BTW we should really be spreading out these American historian hooks so they won't run on the same day. I'll move the person image along further. Yoninah (talk) 00:36, 25 August 2019 (UTC)
- Sorry. I temporarily forgot that we were at 2 sets a day still. SL93 (talk) 00:38, 25 August 2019 (UTC)
- I was thinking that maybe the hook for Alina Morse in prep 5 should say teenage instead of teen. I was going to change it, but I don't want to step on any toes. SL93 (talk) 00:44, 25 August 2019 (UTC)
- (ec)@SL93: you can certainly tweak hooks and also articles that you promote to bring them in line with what you think is proper editorial policy. But the word before "CEO" is going to be an adjective, so you'd write "teenage". Best, Yoninah (talk) 00:48, 25 August 2019 (UTC)
- It was a typo. I will change it in the prep. SL93 (talk) 00:49, 25 August 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks for all of your help with DYK. SL93 (talk) 00:52, 25 August 2019 (UTC)

Yoninah, can you return to this review and see if you can answer the question? It would be nice to get this moving again, and ultimately close out the nomination. Many thanks.

- @Gog the Mild: actually, we have an incredible backlog. You're lucky to see your DYK promoted within 2 months of nominating it. And you were really lucky to have your FA promoted in record time! Yoninah (talk) 20:00, 28 August 2019 (UTC)
- Well yes, my comments were slightly tongue in cheek. I have just reviewed three DYK noms to help out. Being (relatively) new to FAC I am probably gaining an entirely incorrect impression. My first nomination was 23.10.18, Black Prince's chevauchée of 1355 was my thirteenth pass on 19.8.19. Ie, an average of 23 days each. I keep getting told that this is due to average out . DYK for The Precious Legacy
On 29 August 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article The Precious Legacy, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that an exhibit of Czech Jewish art and ritual objects confiscated by the Nazis for a planned "Museum of the Extinct Race" was seen by more than half a million people on its U.S. tour? promoting preps
Hey, Yoninah! I've been unsure recently whether or not a prep was ready to promote to queue. I don't like to promote if a prep has been worked on in the past twelve hours, as I figure people are still shuffling. And I don't want to promote when there's only one prep that is full and all the others still have one or more empty slots. What should I be looking for when deciding whether a prep is ready to be promoted? --valereee (talk) 01:20, 29 August 2019 (UTC)
- @Valereee: I've been trying to fill prep sets more quickly as two a day are being put up on the main page. If you see one or two filled prep sets with half-filled ones below them, go ahead and promote the filled prep sets. I think 12 hours is too much time to delay. Right now preps 3 and 4 are ready to go! Yoninah (talk) 02:07, 29 August 2019 (UTC)

DYK
Hi, what's DYK really like these days? A few people I know stopped bothering with it because they got sick of petty reviewers and articles always being stalled. I have been improving a few articles of late which I think should really be DYKs but I I didn't want to start doing it again and having to deal with difficult people.♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:51, 30 August 2019 (UTC)
- @Dr. Blofeld: Hi, you didn't retire? It's great to have you back! The temperature meter at DYK has been on a low burner lately. Some promoted hooks are discussed at WT:DYK and then altered in prep. There isn't so much pulling lately, and I haven't seen snide remarks at WT:DYK in a while. Hooks are moving along slowly, though, as we have a big backlog. You know what? I would be happy to nominate your DYKs for you; I have a backlog of QPQ reviews. Then, if something is questioned, you could chime in with answers. As long as the hook fact is solidly sourced and the article is well-written, there shouldn't be problems. Best, Yoninah (talk) 17:58, 31 August 2019 (UTC)
- I was going to chime in that there really aren't a lot of difficult people at DYK right now, but then I remembered that if you don't think your group has an asshole, you're probably the asshole. --valereee (talk) 15:47, 1 September 2019 (UTC)
Yoninah, there has been a response to your concerns here; can you return to get the review moving again? If you'd rather that the original reviewer be pinged, or someone other than yourself, please just let me know. Many thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 23:32, 31 August 2019 (UTC)
DYK
Thanks for reviewing Enter the Anime and other old DYK nominations. SL93 (talk) 01:16, 4 September 2019 (UTC)
Hi I just saw the promotion of the above, thanks but please do not change to most decorated because this is an error in the source. The subject received a DSC and the South Atlantic medal as did at least a half-dozen other pilots including Sharkey Ward. Just because it is in a reliable source doesn't make it true! i shall revert you edit on the article page. Cheers. --Dom from Paris (talk) 13:17, 4 September 2019 (UTC)
- I've just checked and Sharkey Ward received the Air Force Cross in 1982 as well making him more decorated than Morgan. Dom from Paris (talk) 13:52, 4 September 2019 (UTC)

- @GiantSnowman: Oh, I see. So can we change it? Yoninah (talk) 13:58, 10 September 2019 (UTC)
- Not according to WP:DATERET, which says we maintain the established date format - and see also MOS:DATETIES which says Israeli-related articles use either date format. GiantSnowman 14:00, 10 September 2019 (UTC)
Another DYK request to expedite
Yoninah,
This time it's the nom for The woman who made up her mind, that somewhat controversial anti-Scottish independence ad, which I'm hoping to have on the Main Page next Wednesday, the fifth anniversary of the referendum. Do you think you could take a look? Daniel Case (talk) 19:17, 10 September 2019 (UTC)
- Per my response to your suggestion at the nom, I have finally added a video clip to the article. Take a look! Daniel Case (talk) 05:24, 17 September 2019 (UTC)
- @Daniel Case: thank you, that's great! And right in time for the main page appearance! Best, Yoninah (talk) 10:23, 17 September 2019 (UTC)
And again
This time it's another missing-person case with an anniversary coming up, like, in this case, Friday (I would have gotten it done sooner, but I had some real-world activities slowing me down and, as with many of the other ones, it turned out to be a bigger article than I had expected it would ultimately be a week ago).
If you get it done, it should probably go right into Prep Area 4, which I see is already getting some entries. Daniel Case (talk) 04:44, 10 December 2019 (UTC)
Thank you
Thank you for the hook that you suggested for Mary Welch. It reached 3,388 views while on the main page. I do wish that DYK was back to once a day though. SL93 (talk) 03:39, 11 September 2019 (UTC)
- @SL93: me too. If it were once a day, the pageviews would be double. But that's still very impressive! Yoninah (talk) 09:00, 11 September 2019 (UTC)
Pholiota squarrosoides
I could be wrong, but I have a feeling that my hook at Template:Did you know nominations/Pholiota squarrosoides is being skipped over since its approval a month ago because the hook isn't that great. I also don't think that Cwmhiraeth can promote it because she expanded the description section. There are other hooks that I can use so I'm just checking. I could be wrong, and likely am. SL93 (talk) 03:45, 12 September 2019 (UTC)
- @SL93: Older image hooks are being delayed because we are following a rotation for people/buildings/nature/paintings/graphs etc. But yes, I came by to promote it yesterday and didn't think the hook is so great. I could promote it to a non-image slot, but I think the image is good. Yoninah (talk) 09:17, 12 September 2019 (UTC)
- Would you rather have me suggest alts and see if an editor such as the original reviewer can approve them? SL93 (talk) 15:32, 12 September 2019 (UTC)
- I added two alts. I would really appreciate your help as one of the few people who will promote hooks. SL93 (talk) 21:56, 12 September 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for your help. This isn’t related to Wikipedia, but getting this taken care of has somewhat helped my IRL depression. I don’t get depressed about Wikipedia and it’s one of the things that helps me feel sane. Sorry for rambling. SL93 (talk) 23:28, 12 September 2019 (UTC)
- @SL93: glad to be of help. I actually do get depressed about the ownership issues at DYK and take a break from it every now and then. Yoninah (talk) 23:30, 12 September 2019 (UTC)
- @SL93: I think it would be appropriate to add a mention of Pholiota squarrosoides and its effects to the two tree articles. Yoninah (talk) 02:10, 13 September 2019 (UTC)
- I will before I go to sleep tonight. Thanks for the suggestion. SL93 (talk) 02:14, 13 September 2019 (UTC)

- Gerda, I'm wondering if we should do that 3-column translation that was done on one of the psalms recently. We could have the Hebrew original, Latin translation, and KJV English all together. Unless Elizium23 will question where the Latin comes from. Yoninah (talk) 20:51, 16 September 2019 (UTC)
- I think we should not, because the English translation of the Hebrew is different from the English translation of the Latin, and the KJV. The slight differences of three versions are helpful to our readers, I'd think. - Sometimes the difference begins with with verse numbering. I also think that a 3-column-table of prose is hard to read on mobile devices. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:58, 16 September 2019 (UTC)

DYK
I couldn’t have fixed it even if I wanted to because I don’t understand such language as it sounding like a chat around a coffee table. I can’t fix the carrying the whole article problem because I didn’t realize that sourcing her birth date would count as such. SL93 (talk) 20:21, 17 September 2019 (UTC)
- @SL93: I meant that the article is written in a roundabout style. The Personal life section begins with her education, tells me she passed on her masters program to audition, then says that before she auditioned she answered phones. Then she starts going back further in time to talk about her childhood. This would be so much better written in chronological order: Birth, family, education, early career, acting career.
- Sourcing her birthdate is not a problem. I'm referring to seeing only 2 RS for her notability: New York magazine and the A.V. Club.
- Do you want me to reopen the nomination? Yoninah (talk) 20:25, 17 September 2019 (UTC)
- Sure. I only withdrew it because I had trouble even understanding what you meant and it did look pretty final with the template that was used. I can’t add anymore till I get home from work though or later. SL93 (talk) 20:29, 17 September 2019 (UTC)
Yoninah, I just happened across this nomination, which doesn't appear to be on either the Nominations or the Approved page, so I was wondering whether this was a deliberate choice to keep it from being approved prematurely, and where it stands now (are the images still in the OTRS queue?). Please let me know—I have no plans to do anything myself, it's all yours. Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 05:43, 21 September 2019 (UTC)
- @BlueMoonset: thank you for letting me know. When one of the hooks was promoted, the nomination somehow disappeared from the Approved page. I have reinstated it at WP:DYKN. Yoninah (talk) 17:48, 21 September 2019 (UTC)
More psalms
My next will be Psalm 50 and Psalm 124. We could do them without any text until we find a good free translation from Hebeew. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:03, 21 September 2019 (UTC)
Glad you liked the photo for Shangri-La (house)
Was surprised that anyone else was watching the article. :) I wrote to the owners of the house to see if I could get a better photograph of the front (aside from the part that borders Shangri-La drive it's only accessible from the gated private drive) but didn't get a response. I think the one I took of the other side is not bad, though.
Unrelated was looking over your user page and was curious, do you live in Denver and/or do you have thoughts on the Jewish community around Denver? Asking because I'd like more of a spiritual community in my life recently. My wife and I are Reformed. - Scarpy (talk) 19:54, 22 September 2019 (UTC)
- @Scarpy: no, I live in Jerusalem, Israel. A while ago I began filling in redlinks on state women's hall of fame pages, and after I finished Maine Women's Hall of Fame, I turned to Colorado Women's Hall of Fame. Shangri-La (house) was an extension of my work on Arlene Hirschfeld's page. I'm only aware of an active Orthodox community and girls' school in Denver, but I would think you could contact Intermountain Jewish News for information about any community in the city or state. Best of luck, Yoninah (talk) 20:46, 22 September 2019 (UTC)
- That's a good idea. I should pick up a copy from the Deli the next time we're there. :) We're visiting Israel in March. Any recommendations? - Scarpy (talk) 19:49, 23 September 2019 (UTC)
Marie Dacke
I am sorry that I didn't strike the pale "best so-and-so-hook", thinking that the dung beetles' navigation by the milkyway is so much more interesting. (Once I'm here, I'm also disappointed that Monteverdi's Vespers, an iconic work in music history, didn't get an image.) - With Psalm 50, I made a start, but a birthday article and a recent death were in the way of doing more. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:12, 22 September 2019 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt: but the other option was struck. And the article is too short on information for a good hook. I'm surprised you didn't fail the nomination.
- I just felt the image for the vespers looked smudged.
- I've been very busy lately with paid work, plus I'm going to be preparing for Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, this week. I don't know if I'll get to create new content. When I have a clearer head, I need to think about what we're doing with the psalms translations. As you can see at Psalm 1, leaving it without a translation opens the page up to all sorts of contributions. Yoninah (talk) 23:52, 22 September 2019 (UTC)
- Sorry about the mess about the psalm translations. Did the user ever apologize to you, templating, and causing work and heartache? I seiously think we should go back to no text until we find a solution. No Hebrew, no KJV, - they are both in the external links. We could speak about translation if ncessary on a case to case basis.
- Sorry about striking the wrong hook, - MY silly mistake.
- I said in the nom for the Vespers that the image show no detail, but it's still the title page of the most important print of sheet music of the 17th century, and some people will not know how a print of that time looks, so can learn something new. The other images won't work, and I hate to show Monteverdi because he is decades too old for composition time on the only image we have (same as for Bach). But I won't fight. It's just that it makes going for FA not my decision but a must ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:24, 23 September 2019 (UTC)
- What can we do about Dacke. Do we need to reopen the nom for me to fix my silly mistake? Or what? - And what about the image? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:04, 24 September 2019 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt: the image has been deleted. I returned the nomination to WP:DYKN. Best, Yoninah (talk) 21:11, 24 September 2019 (UTC)
- Replied already: ALT2 (a bit hidden) was regarded as the best hook. I formatted a bit to make it stand out more. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:17, 24 September 2019 (UTC)

Thank you for another good one! I have quirky Thomas Mohr (tenor) today, on his birthday, something that that worked out well in the end. - I thought of you seeing opera Pozdravlyayem!, a sad stub, based on Mazel Tov (play). Any chance for an expansion? (Together?) - 2010 is the year of psalms here, a good reason to get them all done by end of 2020, - how about that? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:21, 17 October 2019 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt: thank you. Yes, I'm glad you could work out something good for Thomas Mohr, and also that Gatoclass thought it quirky enough to slip into the last slot. Article on Yivsam Azgad
Hello Yoninah. Could you please have a look at the discussion of Yivsam Azgad on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Yivsam Azgad? I will really appreciate it! Yivsam Azgad already has a Wikipedia page in Hebrew, which is well supported with links to reliable references and meets the Wikipedia guidelines. The article in English has been created in consultation with the above-mentioned article in Hebrew and with the references provided within the same. There is no question about notability here! The grounds on which this article has been opened to discussion for deletion is unclear to me and it seems a bit biased and suspicious, given that Yivsam Azgad has given a lot of service to Arts, Science, and Journalism including many science-based socio-cultural initiatives which are recognized worldwide and thus deserves a Wikipedia page in English. Yivsam Azgad is the editor of Nano Comics (a comic series in English, Arabic, and Hebrew) and he is the one who initiated and responsible for the social-cultural Science on Tap. I will be happy to get your support on this matter. Thanks, Q936 (talk) 22:46, 16 October 2019 (UTC)

DYK prep area 4
Hi and sorry to bother you. I'm just curious about when the DYK hook about the Khalili Collections was going to go online, and saw that it was lined up for tomorrow, but the queue was recently swapped and is now in prep area 4. Am I right in thinking that means it goes live on Friday 25th? Are there likely to be any other swaps, or is this date definite? Thanks in advance for any reply and for all you do for the DYK process. MartinPoulter (talk) 14:15, 21 October 2019 (UTC)
- @MartinPoulter: Hooks are often swapped around right until the last minute! In this case, I was trying to avoid placing a person image in two sets in a row, so I moved your set to October 26, 00:00 UTC. That means that in Los Angeles and New York, it goes up on the night of Friday the 25th. I didn't see any special occasion requests for any of the hooks, so I felt free to do the swap. Thanks for keeping an eye on your hook as it moves up into the queue and onto the main page. Best, Yoninah (talk) 19:00, 21 October 2019 (UTC)
- No question that you're free to do the swap and it was the right thing to do! I was just curious about when the hook will be live, and take the point that it's scheduled for Friday night but there could be further changes. Thanks, MartinPoulter (talk) 12:48, 22 October 2019 (UTC)

Page move for disambiguation of ICC Men's T20 World Cup
Hi, I would like to bring to your attention that, a page move is requested by me to rename 2020 ICC T20 World Cup to 2020 ICC Men's T20 World Cup as later is the official name by ICC and also the logo of the tournament specifically display the later name which is also used in the article, secondly, both the tournament is going to take place at the same country and also same year and also the ICC Women's T20 World Cup will be before men's tournament. Thirdly, to bring disambiguity to the name of both tournament. And also the parent page ICC T20 World Cup consistency. I would like to have your insight and comment at the move discussion, if only you like to. Thank you. Dey subrata (talk) 21:51, 30 October 2019 (UTC)

Question
Edits like [2] popped up in my notifications yesterday. While they obviously do no harm to anyone, I don't understand why they are desirable. Can you point me to a guideline or something? Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 09:13, 4 November 2019 (UTC)
- @Gråbergs Gråa Sång: since a link to Jack Hadley Black History Museum will redirect to Jack Hadley, it's more desirable to pipe the link to the right address. Otherwise the link displays indented in the "What links here" section. This has been my understanding and practice since I joined Wikipedia. The only page I can find is WP:MOSLINK. Yoninah (talk) 11:33, 4 November 2019 (UTC)
- Ok, I see the difference, that's subtle. I'm not sure it's a good practice, in a sense you are "hiding" the redirects, which may not bother anyone. MOS:NOPIPE seems to advice against this, though. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 11:51, 4 November 2019 (UTC)
- @Gråbergs Gråa Sång: Right, I'm reading MOS:NOPIPE, but in this case the merge discussion voted against a separate page for Jack Hadley Black History Museum, so I figured one will never be created. But thanks for the policy review! Yoninah (talk) 12:22, 4 November 2019 (UTC)
- It's the thanks you get for approving my DYK, apparently. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 12:26, 4 November 2019 (UTC)
- Apologies for bothering again, but it just struck me that perhaps black history should be wikilinked to African-American history in the Jack Hadley hook. Whatever you think is best. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 20:31, 5 November 2019 (UTC)
- Hi @Gråbergs Gråa Sång: since the hook is already in the queue, only an administrator can fix it. You could post your request at WT:DYK. Yoninah (talk) 23:14, 5 November 2019 (UTC)
- (watching:) To my knowledge, for articles on the Main page, there's no exception from use the target article's name, and pipe. In articles, however, I often find it misleading, and use the redirect, example: Technische Hochschule Hannover, which was the correct name in history, and someone who studied there in th mid-20th-century would not be well served with whatever fancy name it has today, and they argue about it, btw. - Yoninah, I came to say that I began work on Psalm 121, and will do Psalm 85 which is a DYK possibility, really short at present. Ping me please when you are ready to work on the latter, - we'll sing it 15 December. So sad that this is true: --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:03, 20 November 2019 (UTC)

Yoninah, I was wondering whether your previous objections had been answered. Since I've written out the split hooks, I'm basically out of the running. Would it be best to get Cwmhiraeth to review the latest hooks (she had done a review of the nom earlier), assuming your prior issues have been dealt with, so you could then promote them? It would be great to get Gara Medouar into a lead hook spot as soon as possible (especially given the current spate of lead photos of people). - @Gatoclass: how about Template:Did you know nominations/Kavya Manyapu? Yoninah (talk) 18:08, 21 November 2019 (UTC)
- That's a good choice of hook Yoninah, but unfortunately there is a discrepancy in the references, with one saying she invented the technology, and one saying she co-invented it. Hi Yoninah, I've added the hook ALT0 of this DYK to the article appropriately in both the lede and aftermath sections of the article and so the issue should now be fixed. WSOK note
Hey, wanted to mention why I didn't push WSOK (AM) hard for the date. It was just a mere convenience that the station's anniversary was coming up, and I had a special occasion DYK that was more important to be put out on 11/1 (XHFAMX-TDT). I don't mind the delay on WSOK. Raymie (t • c) 23:27, 27 November 2019 (UTC)
DYK for Alexandrea Owens
On 28 November 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Alexandrea Owens, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Alexandrea Owens became known as "the Titanic girl" after performing with Leonardo DiCaprio in the James Cameron epic at the age of eight? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Alexandrea Owens. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Alexandrea Owens), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

If we really picture a sumo wrestler but not Clara Schumann, can they please go to different sets? Looking at the achievements of the two people, I may not remain the only one to ask. Very generally, I see more men than women on our Main page, and more sports people than culture people. Similar question: do we really have to picture a sumo wrestler but not a leading opera manager? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:58, 8 December 2019 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt: Let's go one by one.
- I could move Clara Schumann to a different set. I don't like the picture—the black and white makes her look haggard. The hook isn't great for an image slot, either.
- Really? I have so much trouble balancing sets because there are far more women hooks than men. Your tenors and Zanhe's Chinese scientists are the only men I ever find.
- Really? Lately you have a musical person in nearly every set, while we don't have so many sports hooks anymore. Yoninah (talk) 18:28, 8 December 2019 (UTC)
- Bernd Loebe and Magnificat (Vivaldi) are both in Prep 6 because you asked for the same special occasion date for both, December 15. If you want to move Bernd Loebe into the image slot, please provide a hookier hook. Yoninah (talk) 18:28, 8 December 2019 (UTC)
- Thank you for taking the time for such detail. Please move Schumann to a different set. - The last time a classical music performer was pictured - and we only talked about pictured - seems a while ago, Schumann with her piano concerto in October (it's her bicentenary year), while the last sports person was 3 December. - I didn't ask for the Magnificat on the 15th, valereee moved it there, and I said lovely because we sing it that day, - it could be any day. I didn't ask for that image for it which has little to do with the music and isn't great, - the other one was great but BlueMoonset explained that it is too loosely related. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:13, 8 December 2019 (UTC)
- Gerda, I'd also like to mention that I choose hooks for the image slot that are worded in a hooky way. You can be sure that that sumo wrestler will get a lot of views. I wouldn't say the same thing for the Clara Schumann hook. Yoninah (talk) 20:58, 8 December 2019 (UTC)
- I think I got that the first time. Repeating: my only request was to move Schumann to a different slot. I added to explain my perspective, not asking for more. Perhaps that was not clear enough. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:11, 8 December 2019 (UTC)

Hi Yoninah. Five days ago, you approved one of many hooks I had written in my DYK nomination for the article I created, 2001 Major League Baseball contraction plan. I'm new to the DYK process and I just want to make sure I'm not supposed to do anything else in order for it to be promoted. Can you let me know if I've done everything I'm supposed to? Songwaters (talk) 01:22, 6 December 2019 (UTC)
- @Songwaters: No, your job is done after the reviewer gives it an approval tick. A bot automatically sends it to our Approved page, after which it waits for a prep builder to come along and promote it. I see it was just promoted to Prep 6 today, which, if all goes well, will appear on the Main Page on December 15. Best, Yoninah (talk) 09:56, 6 December 2019 (UTC)
... finally appeared today, - thank you for participating in finding the best hook, "... to listen to the music at the end" which would be a good motto ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:22, 7 December 2019 (UTC)
Beethoven set a psalm
... well, sort of, Die Himmel rühmen des Ewigen Ehre, a paraphrase of the beginning of Psalm 19. While we may not quote the whole Hebrew translated to English, we may quote excerpts, so I wonder if you could help us to the very beginning in the psalm article. Did you know that today is Beethoven's birthday, again sort of, we don't know exactly. Which will be celebrated all over 2020? I decorated my talk ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:17, 16 December 2019 (UTC)
- Done Gerda, I fixed up the whole article. Best, Yoninah (talk) 21:56, 28 December 2019 (UTC)

DYK request for New Year's Day
Happy Hanukkah! I was wondering if you could look at my latest date-specific nom, View of Auvers-sur-Oise (not a missing person, obviously; a stolen painting this time). This New Year's will be the 20th anniversary of the theft so I'm hoping to have it on DYK for the first of the year, and with Christmas coming up there will be less people looking at noms (I've had it up for a few days already). I hope this isn't too much to ask. Daniel Case (talk) 00:42, 24 December 2019 (UTC)
The South Korean articles like US articles
I need you help, why the almost all South Korean article on Wikipedia use American date Format (MDY Format) like US figures rather than British date format (DMY Format) ? 114.124.240.105 (talk) 04:32, 24 December 2019 (UTC)
- This is something you should bring up at WP:Wikiproject Korea. Yoninah (talk) 14:25, 24 December 2019 (UTC)
Yoninah, the article has received its GOCE copyedit, and I was wondering whether you thought you'd be able to promote it now, or if you still have concerns. Given how long it is and the fact that when it moved to the Approved page, another eight to ten later nominations were prevented from transcluding, it would be great if it could be put in a prep, but only if it is indeed ready.
It's the oldest approved nomination, and the second oldest was reviewed by Cwmhiraeth (Template:Did you know nominations/Gott ist gegenwärtig), so you're the likeliest candidate to promote that one as well. (It's also a big one, which will likely allow several later approvals to retransclude.) I'm looking forward to us going to two a day in just under 18 hours, so we can get this backlog down at least to the point where we can actually transclude all of the approved nominations!
Happy Chanukah, and a very happy and healthy New Year to come. BlueMoonset (talk) 06:29, 24 December 2019 (UTC)

Thank you for your editing of my article - I was wondering when did the google books ref change or is not allowed ? Thanks DavidAnstiss (talk) 23:09, 25 December 2019 (UTC)
- @DavidAnstiss: Hmm. I read your article in the edit window and copied the URLs in Google to check them. Then I had to click on the book links. Now I see that if I click on your links, they go straight through to Google page view. OK. So your URLs are actually fine, but I would ask you to please add publisher and isbn number to fill out the references. Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 23:13, 25 December 2019 (UTC)
- Can do that :) DavidAnstiss (talk) 00:04, 26 December 2019 (UTC)

Notability tag on Leah Stokes
She fulfils Criteria 1 and probably 7 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Notability_(academics)) – whilst early career, she is a frequent contributor to mainstream news and discusses energy policy in both academic and non-academic settings. Jesswade88 (talk) 15:44, 31 December 2019 (UTC)
