Request to address the opening paragraph of the article Zionism, a little more in understanding this time:)

My complaint regarding the handling of controversial sentences about Zionism was deleted on the grounds that it was related to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, even though this is not true at all.
My goal was to move the following sentences under the section Zionism and colonialism:
1. "(...) to establish and support a Jewish homeland through the colonization of Palestine (...)".
2. "(...) Zionists wanted to create a Jewish state in Palestine with as much land, as many Jews, and as few Palestinian Arabs as possible (...)".
It is important for me to summarize and say that I do not want or need to "cancel" the above opinions, but simply move them to their appropriate place. I also sorry for being rude and please know that nothing I said was directed at you or anyone who participated in the talk personally - I just don't think it's fair that the article on Zionism reaches such extremes of people trying to push their ideologies into the it, and if you ask me? the two sentences are more appropriate for the above section because they are controversial and can create a bad impression when they are at the beginning - regardless of their sources. (want to hear something that will stay between us? No one really looks at sources unless it's something they really want to learn and research - and believe me, the trend of being anti-Zionist is not something people really invest in learning about today). Therefore, also in relation to the period, as you said - I would suggest at least moving these sentences to Zionism and colonialism section because it can be sensitive to read that thing for some people.. I even have photos of the article before all these changes, where it was neutral and perfectly fine.
An RfC is open on whether use of emojis with no encyclopedic value in mainspace and draftspace (e.g., at the start of paragraphs or in place of bullet points) should be added as a criterion under G15.
An RfC is in progress to amend the structure, rules, and procedures of the Arbitration Committee election and resolve any issues not covered by existing rules.

Activity Tab Experiment: The Foundation launched an experiment testing a new Activity tab in the Wikipedia Android app to our beta testers. Instead of only showing editing activity, this tab also surfaces insights about reading and donation behavior.

@Celco85, personally I wouldn't bother with that image. It's over-saturated. The image which you based that on at commons:File:Battinphotomarch.jpg is better, despite the issues with lighting in that one.

I'm a relative newby to Wiki, less than 2 years.
My interest and focus is UK Lifeboats. I don't have the experience or the time to understand the whole 'back office' part of wiki, where folks present awards, and do stuff like "Did You Know?"
I'm working hard to create missing lifeboat pages. 266 articles so far, and 1000s of edits.
Everyone says that Wiki is a collaborative process. However, I have endured probably 18 months of one particular editor changing absolutely everything I did, for no particular gain, just than his own vanity.
This is the first page out of 266 that there seems to have been a collaborative process to refine and make good what I started off in my clumsy way, and I wish to send my thanks to you, and to the others for your input.

After a motion, arbitration enforcement page protections no longer need to be logged in the AELOG. A bot now automatically posts protections at WP:AELOG/P. To facilitate this bot, protection summaries must include a link to the relevant CT page (e.g. [[WP:CT/BLP]]), and you will receive talk page reminders if you forget to specify the contentious topic but otherwise indicate it is an AE action.

Hey just saw that you undid the addition on Zionism, because it needs more weight to arguments that Zionism is expansive and not historically over. I think that is fair, but I'm wondering how much you recommend to add if it's to be kept/worthy. Do you have any scholars or commenters in mind to add? Also, should we start a little discussion on the Zionism talk page to get others opinions on how to get it properly weighted? Would love to hear your thoughts. I have no scholars in mind that I think should be added. Why it struck me as being incorrectly weighted was that I've heard arguments from proponents of Zionism stating that it is a defence of Jewish national determination and therefore attacks on Zionism are antisemtic. It's an argument I've heard a lot and the phrasing has always been in such a way as to indicate that Zionism is a continuing thing. I'd never heard the Zionism is over argument before and I was interested that it was a thing, so as I wrote in my edit summary I'm not against inclussion. Probably a good place to start, as you suggest, would be a talk page discussion. TarnishedPathtalk05:03, 14 October 2025 (UTC)
Alright, I'll make a talk page discussion. I've also mostly heard what you stated, that Zionism is a continuing thing, as a defense of Israeli sovereignty, but this is such a common assumption, I don't think I've ever seen it written out as a defense against criticism, and not just stated as common knowledge without further explanation. Wikipedia 25: Are you planning to organize events to celebrate Wikipedia's 25th birthday? The Wikimedia Foundation offers grants to support active Wikimedia groups in organizing short-term, low-cost projects to celebrate this milestone. Applications are open until November 1.
WikiConference North America 2025: WikiConference North America will take place from October 16–19 in New York City, USA.
Dark Mode will soon be available on all Wikimedia sites.
Mobile Editing: Insights on mobile web editing on Wikipedia in 2025 are now available. This report highlights that ~95% of IP mobile users editing via wikitext open the editor but make no changes at all, a vast untapped potential. It also pinpoints where contributors most often drop off.
Dark Mode: Dark Mode user interface will be rolled out on all Wikimedia sites on October 29. All anonymous users of Wikimedia sites will have the option to activate a color scheme that features light-colored text on a dark background. This is designed to provide a more comfortable reading experience, especially in low-light situations.
Community wishlist extension:The new Community Wishlist extension has been released. This will allow users to add tags to their wishes to better categorise them, and (in a future iteration) to filter them by status, tags and focus areas. It will also be possible to support individual wishes again, as requested by the community in many instances.
Paste Check: 22 Wikis are now testing a new Edit Check feature, Paste Check, to help avoid and fight copyright violations. When editors paste text into an article, Paste Check prompts them to confirm the origin and licensing of the content.
Tone Check: The Wikimedia Foundation is working on a new check for newcomers: Tone check. Using a prediction model, this check will encourage editors to improve the tone of their edits.
Search Suggestions: Search Suggestions was deployed on English Wikipedia. Upon clicking an empty search bar, logged-out users see suggestions of articles for further reading. The feature is available on both desktop and mobile.
Unsupported Tools Working Group: A new Unsupported Tools Working Group has been formed to help prioritize and review requests for support of unmaintained extensions, gadgets, bots, and tools. Hey. Replied to you on my talk page as well. Noticed you moved the Emu page to draft space. I do not understand the reason for this, as the reason you have given does not make sense with Notability standards or sourcing standards. The page itself had already been reviewed and cleared two days ago.

CampaignEvents extension:Campaignevents extension will be deployed to all remaining wikis during the week of 17 November 2025. The extension currently includes three features: Event Registration, Collaboration List, and Invitation List. For this rollout, Invitation List will not be enabled on Wikifunctions and MediaWiki unless requested by those communities.
Event registration tool: Autoconfirmed users on small and medium wikis with the extension can now use Event Registration without the Event Organizer right. This feature lets organizers enable registration, manage participants, and lets users register with one click instead of signing event pages.

Hm. I'm still at "reasonably plausible." I'd expect a COI-editor to submit something more puffery than . If I had "discovered" him first, I might have tried to make that article myself, assuming the sources are good, it's one we should have. The picture thing seems GF to me. I've only been getting more into it for the last 5 or 6 months, so I don't the story behind what prompted the move to templates. I think it used to be done a different way, but technical issue brought about the move to templates. Perhaps something to do with automation or admin/template editor oversight? I know the usage of templates does bring issues, such as WP:PEIS, which affects WP:DYKN and WP:DYKNA. However at the moment it seems like it's the best solution we have.
No, I did a nom when you actually had to fill in the template wikitext by hand, and I've noticed that is much improved. My beef if that we can't easily "talk" in the template, which IMO is a significant downside for new editors, and not that fun for others either. My impression is that the template form is an "ancient" remnant of what was once a good solution, but changing it would take effort, and the regulars are used to it anyway, so it's not done. Hello, TarnishedPath. This message is being sent to remind you of significant upcoming changes regarding logged-out editing.
Starting 4 November, logged-out editors will no longer have their IP address publicly displayed. Instead, they will have a temporary account (TA) associated with their edits. Users with some extended rights like administrators and CheckUsers, as well as users with the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will still be able to reveal temporary users' IP addresses and all contributions made by temporary accounts from a specific IP address or range.
How do temporary accounts work?
Editing from a temporary account
When a logged-out user completes an edit or a logged action for the first time, a cookie will be set in this user's browser and a temporary account tied with this cookie will be automatically created for them. This account's name will follow the pattern: ~2025-12345-67 (a tilde, year of creation, a number split into units of 5).
All subsequent actions by the temporary account user will be attributed to this username. The cookie will expire 90 days after its creation. As long as it exists, all edits made from this device will be attributed to this temporary account. It will be the same account even if the IP address changes, unless the user clears their cookies or uses a different device or web browser.
A record of the IP address used at the time of each edit will be stored for 90 days after the edit. Users with the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will be able to see the underlying IP addresses.
As a measure against vandalism, there are two limitations on the creation of temporary accounts:
There has to be a minimum of 10 minutes between subsequent temporary account creations from the same IP (or /64 range in case of IPv6).
There can be a maximum of 6 temporary accounts created from an IP (or /64 range) within a period of 24 hours.
Temporary account IP viewer user right
How to enable IP Reveal
Administrators may grant the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right to non-administrators who meet the criteria for granting. Importantly, an editor must make an explicit request for the permission (e.g. at WP:PERM/TAIV)—administrators are not permitted to assign the right without a request.
Administrators will automatically be able to see temporary account IP information once they have accepted the Access to Temporary Account IP Addresses Policy via Special:Preferences or via the onboarding dialog which comes up after temporary accounts are deployed.
Impact for administrators
It will be possible to block many abusers by just blocking their temporary accounts. A blocked person won't be able to create new temporary accounts quickly if the admin selects the autoblock option.
It will still be possible to block an IP address or IP range.
Temporary accounts will not be retroactively applied to contributions made before the deployment. On Special:Contributions, you will be able to see existing IP user contributions, but not new contributions made by temporary accounts on that IP address. Instead, you should use Special:IPContributions for this (see a video about IPContributions in a gallery below).
Rules about IP information disclosure
Publicizing an IP address gained through TAIV access is generally not allowed (e.g. ~2025-12345-67 previously edited as 192.0.2.1 or ~2025-12345-67's IP address is 192.0.2.1).
Publicly linking a TA to another TA is allowed if "reasonably believed to be necessary". (e.g. ~2025-12345-67 and ~2025-12345-68 are likely the same person, so I am counting their reverts together toward 3RR, but not Hey ~2025-12345-68, you did some good editing as ~2025-12345-67)

You can see who voted, but not who they voted for. Please note that the vote totals cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see an individual candidate's totals during the election. You must be extended confirmed to vote.
Once voting concludes, we will begin the scrutineering phase, which typically lasts between a couple days and a week. Once everything is certified, the results will be posted on the results page (you may want to watchlist this page) and transcluded to the main election page. In order to be granted adminship, a candidate who has not been recalled must have received at least 70.0% support, calculated as Support / (Support + Oppose), and must also have received a minimum of 20 support votes. A candidate that has been recalled must have at least 55.0% support. Because this is a vote and not a consensus, there are no bureaucrat discussions ("crat chats").

Abstract Wikipedia: The second round of voting on the name of Abstract Wikipedia concluded with Abstract Wikipedia as the top-voted name with 100 votes, followed by Wikigenerator with 91 votes. The name for the wiki project will now remain Abstract Wikipedia.
Anti-vandalism tool:Automoderator, now has the option to choose between two machine learning models to power the software on wikis using the tool.
Tools to support newcomers: Newcomers failing to add a citation to support added content has been one of the most common mistakes on Wikipedia. Reference Check, a tool that prompts them to add a citation before publishing an edit, has gone live for an A/B test on English Wikipedia.
Wikimedia Research Showcase: The next research showcase will feature a special panel on "Experimentation on Wikipedia" and will take place on December 10 at 17:30 UTC.

I appreciate the ping but there’s not much I can really do without extended confirmed. That being said, with other incidents having happened at Bondi Beach previously, it makes sense having the year. Changing the article name to reflect that it was an attempted terror attack in light of the IEDs and media/government consensus would be a good idea though. New Pages Patrol is hosting a one-time, two-month experimental backlog drive aimed at reducing the backlog. This will be a combo drive: both articles and redirects will earn points.
The drive will run from 1 January to 28 February 2026.
The drive is divided into two phases. Participants may take part in either phase or across both phases, depending on availability.
Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled during the drive.
Two-month drive-exclusive barnstars will be awarded to eligible participants.
Each article review earns 1 point, while each redirect review earns 0.2 points.
Streak awards will be granted based on consistently meeting weekly point thresholds.
Barnstars will also be awarded for re-reviewing articles previously reviewed by other patrollers during the drive.

All of the support !votes argued primary topic. Your oppose !vote stated otherwise and seemed to me heavily reliant on wikinav stats. While I'm not super experienced as a closer, I've been involved in and closed enough RMs to have seen that the community generally doesn't think as much of arguments based on wikinav stats. If you'd had even one other editor agreeing with your position I would given quite a bit of thought to relisting instead of moving. Just to give a bit further rationale for my longterm significance argument, because Joy is characterizing it as a "vote", I believe that the use of "Jolene" in people's names would run afoul of WP:PTM, so they can't be counted as equivalent primary topics by longterm significance. Regarding the close, there were four supports for the proposal with those supports either referencing WP:PTOPIC or WP:NCROY (one editor argued WP:CONSISTENT). There were 6 opposes, who argued WP:CONSISTENT, that a name change would cause confusion given the play and that neither the play nor the royal are the PTOPIC (TheodoresTomfooleries presented a wikiview analysis in an attempt to contradict one editor but that analysis did not show enough of a difference between the king and the play for the king to be considered the PTOPIC). A number of the opposes also made reference to be previous close, where editors opposed on the basis of consistency and clarity. In that discussion both sides also argued PTOPIC, as was the case in this discussion. Given that no policy position prevailed, this came down to which side had a numerical superiority. @Celco85, I'm not going to touch either of those images. In the Pell photo the colour adjustments which have been made have resulted in an image which is not a true representation of the man at the time the photo was taken. I.e., his hair colour has been changed to a colour it wasn't. Regarding the Hamer photo, any cropping of that is going to result in an inferior image. It's not a great image to start with. When I do crop things its because I believe I'm creating a better image, which is still a true representation of the individual. I can't in good faith do anything with either of those images. Sorry. Sorry, I think this move (actually really a retrospective justification for a BOLD move) was a bit silly. The article is clearly about the distillery, not the single malt and WP:CONSISTENT should apply. The overwhelmingly vast majority of the articles in the category Category:Scottish malt whisky are about distilleries not about the (single malt) whisky, and where they are about the whisky they take the form 'X single malt' for example Tobermory Single Malt, where Toberymory distillery also exists, or Killyloch which is a whisky from a distillery of another name (in fact they seem to both be sui generis for the category, and the Tobermory should probably be an example for how to deal with Glenfiddich!?). Yes, the RM had been closed before I had a chance to answer. I believe I am on the other side of the world relative to you both. Please point out to me the 'several other' articles in that category that are named after whiskies apart from the ones I've pointed out, and A'bunadh, which seem to be special cases. They are mostly named 'X distillery'. I haven't been through them all, but the titles and a spot survey tells me they are about distilleries. If you've been through them all and some are about the whisky, not the distillery, then fair play. YorkshireExpat (talk) 22:30, 12 January 2026 (UTC)

When you find an unsourced article, please check the history before draftifying it next time. If an article was previously a redirect, then restoring the redirect (as I did with 2400, for example) would be preferable to draftifying it. GTrang (talk) 21:46, 13 January 2026 (UTC)

Ps, @Celco85, a lot of this you can do yourself. You only need to enable the cropping tool in settings at Commons. Regarding retouching, download GIMP (a free image manipulation program). We've had several other recent hooks related to the Mughal emperor Jahangir so I've been trying to space them out roughly a week apart (the previous one is currently in Queue 4).
