Waterside Workers Federation
editThanks for salvaging the Waterside Workers' Union mess, but I'm afraid you've created another one. The history of trade unions is pretty confusing at the best of times, but ATUA takes an approach that I don't think makes a lot of sense for Wikipedia even though they're a good source otherwise.
For example, as they note, the Waterside Workers Federation was founded as a national organisation in 1902: the 1907 date only refers when they attained federal registration as a union, at which point they'd been in existence for five years, and at a time when registration under federal industrial relations law was far less important than it is today. A similar situation occurs in 1991: functionally, the WWF absorbed another union and continued on as it was, but ATUA treats this as creating an entirely separate union because of the quirks of industrial relations law.
There was only one organisation called the WWF from 1902 to 1993, and it makes no sense either have two articles on it or to have the article at (1907-1991) when it was neither founded in 1907 nor ended in 1991.
Also, any chance you could archive your talk page? It's absolute hell to load on an old computer, and as I saw while I was waiting for the page to load I'm clearly not the first person to ask. The Drover's Wife (talk) 14:09, 23 July 2015 (UTC)
Shirt58's starter for 10
editThat's the rather cryptic title of a section on the Language ref desk. The "for 10" sounds like a Jeopardy! entry. But would you have a clue what the "Shirt58's starter" would mean? Thank you. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 20:42, 23 July 2015 (UTC)
CSD of Teruaki Ogawa
editJust to clarify that situation, the CSD template was placed just after the creation of the page, while it consisted of only the page title and little else. It appears that the page creator then expanded the article, but did not remove the CSD template because one is not allowed to do so on self-created content. Sorry, if need be, for the resulting confusion. MopSeeker (talk) 14:21, 24 July 2015 (UTC)

DYK for Happy Man (Sunnyboys song)
editOn 28 July 2015, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Happy Man (Sunnyboys song), which you recently created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Australian power pop group Sunnyboys issued their nation's first cassette single, "Happy Man", in June 1981? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Happy Man (Sunnyboys song). You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, live views, daily totals), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page. |

Speedy deletion nomination of Adam Levy (Actor)
editHello Shirt58. Thanks for patrolling new pages – it's a very important task! I'm just letting you know, however, that you shouldn't tag pages as lacking context (CSD A1), content (CSD A3),or significance (CSD A7) moments after they are created, as you did at Adam Levy (Actor). It's best to wait at least 10–15 minutes for more content to be added if the page is very short, and the articles should not be marked as patrolled. Tagging such pages in a very short space of time may drive away well-meaning contributors, which is not good for Wikipedia. Attack pages (G10), blatant nonsense (G1), copyright violations (G12) and pure vandalism/blatant hoaxes (G3) should of course be tagged and deleted immediately. Thanks. The Big Bad Wolfowitz (aka Hullaballoo) (talk) 16:06, 8 August 2015 (UTC)

Gomis
editHi there! I think you may be over-conscientious here - Template:Translated_page suggests the template only be used where the article has "content imported into the English Wikipedia from a non-English-language Wikipedia". I think that due to my interference there is very little left of your original translation (except a couple of references). Thank you for adding the article anyway - as you might gather, it had been in the back of my mind for a while to do something about Gomis. Best, --Smerus (talk) 12:04, 28 August 2015 (UTC)

Your move of "Human Nature (Doctor Who episode)"
editI don't think moving to remove "episode" is correct here, as there is also another Doctor Who work, the novel named "Human Nature" (presently at Human Nature (Doctor Who novel) (of which this episode is based on) So the "episode" part of the title is required for proper disambiguation. --MASEM (t) 06:02, 18 October 2015 (UTC)
- Okay, I see what happened, the book got the DW part dropped. That should be okay then. --MASEM (t) 06:03, 18 October 2015 (UTC)
- Re the message on my talk: you're fine. I was not aware that the novel had moved prior, so this move is completely fine within standard TV episode disambiguation practice. --MASEM (t) 13:45, 18 October 2015 (UTC)

- I'm a big fan of American football myself. Mostly College, but I do like the NFL too, I just don't watch it as much. I'm a Pittsburgh Steelers fan, and I live in Columbus, Ohio. It's probably the worst place you can live as a Steelers fan, because people here are either fans of the Cleveland Browns or Cincinnati Bengals seeing as Columbus is in between the two of those cities. Browns and Bengals fan's HATE the Steelers. We're in the same division as them, and lately we usually always beat up on both of them. Anyway, sorry for rambling on, just wanted to say thanks for the response. I can tell that people give you a lot of crap on here, but I wouldn't pay them any attention. The job you do needs to be done by somebody, otherwise there would be useless information all over Wikipedia. Cheers! Stubbleboy 17:36, 27 October 2015 (UTC)
- One further question, Shirt58. During this AFD, User:Drmies made a comment that "you needed to nominate Kick Six for violating NPA". He also stated that he was "going to block you for mentioning it in the first place". I am assuming he is referring to WP:NPA, but what does a personal attack have to do with the Kick Six article? Where and when was there a personal attack? I would appreciate if you wouldn't mind helping clear this up for me, and I have asked him the same. Regards! Stubbleboy 07:06, 29 October 2015 (UTC)

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Crowned heads of Europe (phrase) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. Speedy deletion nomination of User talk:Official Glam Girls
editIf this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on User talk:Official Glam Girls, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

OK its the silly season
editWP:AGF and WP:CIVILITY require that the response I would like to have given is not possible.
- reflist 2 - is what I had done for a considerable time of my edit history.
- reflist 30em - is what I do.
Why? because I was specifically requested by others, no I do not have the link where it happened. It is considered to be more workable mode of refs apparently on specific devices. I took the advice, and find your tinkering with it somewhat short of any substanital information to show good cause.
...in other words a similar to the request from drovers' wife high up your talk page, if you dont archive enough a long talk page can create havoc on some devices, similarly the advice given to me the 30em is directly related to the same issue. to revert to 2 is a misinformed (unless you can prove otherwise) move
BTW on your user page, I have two issues:
Tasmania is another country and state of mind, you only have to read 10 years of Tasmanian Hansard to understand that.
that was one, the other... during my fieldwork in Java many moons ago, one of the deceased sultans was known in popular folklore to be able to bi-locate
your user categories suggest that you are located in 5 places at once? my, you must explain how you do that

Speedy deletion declined: Sachin Tomar 3
editHello Shirt58. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Sachin Tomar 3, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: This speedy decline is purely a technicality to make way for a WP:G5. Thank you. Shirt58 (talk) 11:42, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
Good day, Peter. Any particular reason for the revert? Kotmale Oya has always been the de facto name for the tributary. It was also the name of the article when it was created in 2007. I've made a dumb decision back in 2010 by moving all the Sinhala-name rivers to direct English translated names "because this is the English Wikipedia", with was wrong and contradicts with WP:COMMONNAME. Hence the revert was actually me reverting myself. Kotmale River vs Kotmale Oya also proves that the latter is the more common term (the gap would have been wider if the Wikipedia article was not named as such since 2010). Cheers, Rehman 13:27, 28 December 2015 (UTC)

Your contributed article, 2015 ICC Awards
editIf this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, 2015 ICC Awards. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – ICC Awards#2015 awards. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at ICC Awards#2015 awards – you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.
If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. Joseph2302 (talk) 22:31, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
Requested Moves Cleanup
editThe move you performed was triggered by a confirm sock, please take a moment and review the updated RM Close notes and act as you see fit. I think we need to focus on SMALLDETAILS, drop the unnecessary DABS. See Talk:Woman_in_the_Dunes_(film)#Requested_move_16_December_2015. Thanks. Tiggerjay (talk) 23:05, 30 December 2015 (UTC)

Nonsense pages
editHi Shirt, you just deleted a nonsense page of phone numbers (or something like it?!) created by User:Anilk829930. There have been a few of these today - similar pages created by a number of different accounts called "Anlik#####" - all have been deleted and blocked but as new ones seem to keep popping up, it might be worth checking users and/or looking into a range block? I don't know much about either of those things or how to go about asking, so thought I'd bring it to your attention? Cheers, Melcous (talk) 10:00, 7 January 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks for your quick reply Pete. All the accounts have been deleted (I think by different admins), so I don't remember the numbers, and I don't know how to find them (or if its possible?) If there it isn't, I guess we just keep our eyes open for another one and then see if there is a way to deal with it wholesale rather than one-by-one? Melcous (talk) 10:56, 7 January 2016 (UTC)
- @Melcous: the pages can currently be seen as cached versions on Google. They seem to be Epson support numbers. UK 0800-680-0619 US 1800-282-6179. 220 of Borg 11:52, 8 January 2016 (UTC)
- @Melcous:@220 of Borg: yeah, I saw that. Someone writing articles with of Epson support phone numbers? Seems to me very clumsy Search engine optimization. Maybe let's keep a watchout for this? Pete AU aka --Shirt58 (talk) 12:30, 8 January 2016 (UTC)
- Yep, it would be pretty obvious at Special:NewPages. 220 of Borg 12:47, 8 January 2016 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for January 11
editHi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Euphrictus squamosus, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Congo. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hello, I saw that you initiated this AfD. I was wondering if you could please clarify whether this was based solely on your own observations, or if this stemmed from the request of another editor. There has been a bunch of sockpuppet activity lately related to Australian wrestling topics, and two of the sockpuppeteers voiced strong feelings about this show. Either way, I'm sure you have acted properly, but I know these other editors have tried to bypass traditional methods to have their views represented and affirmed and am therefore curious. Thank you. Hello
editHaving seen your edit on New Kenya Party, I looked at your user page and noticed a coincidence – my user name is also derived from a shirt number I was given (for my university football team). Plus it's only a digit different.
But anyway, thanks for the additional reference! Number 57 13:36, 22 January 2016 (UTC)

Jouniolaviilonen
editAt the moment, I don't see what I should do with this user. His article has been speedily deleted from both the English and the Finnish Wikipedia, and he hasn't done any further disruptive editing. I'm not an admin on the Finnish Wikipedia, so I can't even see what the original Finnish article was about, unless I request undeletion (which I'm pretty sure there is no need for). Policy on living people
editThanks for the message on my talk page. According to "An attack page is a page, in any namespace, that exists primarily to disparage or threaten its subject; or biographical material which is entirely negative in tone and unsourced." The page I created that you deleted was well sourced and was neutral. Accusing me of creating an attack page is defamation. I accuse you of systemic bias, Kim Kardashian had material leaked but her Wikipedia page still exists, Kim is recognized as a social media personality just like the page of the individual you deleted. Part (talk) 11:25, 31 January 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks for your response @Shirt58: You write "it would have been deleted as very obviously not meeting the WP:BLP1E part of that policy", furthermore you write "I admit that I did not go through the regular processes when I deleted that article". It is not very obvious to me that the said article does not meet WP:BLP1E, maybe on your side of the world the individual is low-profile but that is not necessarily the case in the individual's country. Also information about the subject of the article was covered by several main stream media outlets and is widely and easily available on the internet. For you to claim the individual would suffer indignity is perhaps not entirely true because of the wide availability of the information. I maintain my accusation of systemic bias. As someone from the Global South, I have encountered systemic bias from Wikipedians in the North including Administrators like you who twist rules to suit their worldview. I'm here to edit and do not have the time to engage in edit wars with biased individuals. Part (talk) 12:04, 1 February 2016 (UTC)
Deletion of Algonquin College Kuwait page
editHi Peter,
I am trying to create an entry for our college. I created the page yesterday and used some contents from our website ( www.algonquincollege.com/kuwait). The page was deleted. As this is a new page, it will take us a few weeks to build a full page and we may use a lot of material that is already on our website or on other media. I hope you can restore the page for me.
Thank you.

Proposed deletion of Yuuki Tanaka
editThe article Yuuki Tanaka has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- This player is not notable by project standards; she has no Fed Cup or WTA main draw appearances, has not won any ITF tournaments above the $25,000 category, had no remarkable junior career (neither a Grand Slam champion nor ranked within the world's top 3), and there are no further claims that she is otherwise, at present, generally notable.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Jared Preston (talk) 17:21, 7 February 2016 (UTC)

Fat and flabby
editThis page is hopelessly, ridiculously too large. Please reduce it to less than 100k bytes soonest. OK, disk space is ridiculously cheap nowadays and apparently infinitely extensible. But spare a thought for people with slow connections and hand held devices. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 14:15, 17 February 2016 (UTC)
Uninvolved review
editI don't see why you felt it necessary to use email to notify me of an uninvolved review. Also I cannot see anywhere where your action has been challenged. You deleted Seema Gavit but why did you leave Renuka Shinde untouched? Clearly we do not need two articles but I am not sure whether a title of Seema Gavit and Renuka Shinde might not be better. Notability is a bit dubious but they deserve an AfD discussion. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 14:15, 17 February 2016 (UTC)
