Gardiner's sign list
Hi! I'm delighted to learn that the tricky question of copyright in Gardiner's list has been resolved, but I can't seem to find the related discussion. I don't see anything definitive on the talk-page or in the deletion discussion. Can you give me a pointer? Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 18:38, 4 April 2017 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification for April 5
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited National Register of Historic Places listings in Norfolk, Virginia, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Interstate 264 (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Speedy deletion of Ol Ravy
I seriously need to object here, given that this not only one of the more persistent sockpuppeteers, but also one who regularly abuses AfC to avoid detection and other problems associated with running a sockpuppet account. In declining this deletion, you've essentially created the precedent that all this editor needs to do in order to get their evasion to stick is to get some oblivious AfC reviewer to accept their edits before SPI finds them. Given that there is some disagreement on how to handle this sort of thing, both User:Courcelles and User:DeltaQuad have deleted accepted AfC submissions in this case (see Draft:Seut Baraing, Draft:Ly Vahed, Draft:Ros Kungsomrach), would you mind if I got a second opinion on this. Help!
Hey Nyttend, I have a question for you... it's regarding WP:HONORIFICS again. Do military ranks apply to this? I am saying yes, others are disagreeing. In my opinion, they earn their rank... just like professors earn theirs. It may in a different way, but they still earn it. It isn't given to them. I am fine to re-add them to the infoboxes, IF there is a consensus. If you want the article, it can be found here. All I am looking for is the correct answer. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks, Corkythehornetfan (ping me) 19:50, 6 April 2017 (UTC)
Greetings from the road
Had a fair-to-middling day in Culpeper County yesterday, but I did manage six sites. This morning/early afternoon were a bonanza for Orange County, but things turned sour with the weather, and I was unable to look for the Thornton tombstone due to my path being blocked by a downed tree. Still, I fleshed out Cumberland County nicely, and got enough images to ensure that Buckingham County will no longer be the least-covered in the Commonwealth. (Could have swung one more, but road sign issues prevented my finding it.)
My in-room wifi is acting up, else I'd start uploading my images. Hopefully I can do some of that tomorrow night. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 04:31, 7 April 2017 (UTC)
- Totted up my list- 26 sites over the past two days, with 20 of them coming yesterday. Not bad, all told.
- Don't know when I'll be getting back to Cumberland - a lot depends on what happens this weekend. If my friend on the Eastern Shore is available I'll be heading back that way...if not, then I think I'll take another crack at Cumberland, and head home via the Richmond area. So you may be the first...good luck. What I may end up doing, if it doesn't work out this weekend, is returning Memorial Day weekend for a couple of days to flesh out some of the central counties.
- I should probably have done better recon in Buckingham County before yesterday, but it's the first time my rather scattershot method has failed me that spectacurlarly, so...lessons learned, as they say. (I did get a picture for the Seven Islands Archeological and Historic District, though - not too difficult when you know the landmarks. That makes four sites, including one roadside marker, for Buck County.) (Funny thing - I was chatting with some folks at the McDonald's in Orange yesterday, waiting for the rainstorm to pass, and one of them mentioned "Buck County". He's only the second person I've ever heard, my father being the first, to use that locution.)
- It's been a few years since I was in Richmond, and most of the times I've been down there have been for functions at the state capitol for which we have been granted special parking access, so I'm not sure I have any pertinent info. There's a huge public garage attached to the hospital at the Medical College of Virginia, I know...that's right near the Museum of the Confederacy and the Confederate White House, if those are on your agenda. Otherwise I think a lot of it is street parking. Richmond's a bit odd, geographically speaking, which doesn't help. Anything in particular you're looking to see? I think the answer is going to change a bit depending on where you want to go,honestly.
- Oh, and congratulations on the new sites. One of mine from Orange is as-yet unarticled as well. :-) --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 14:46, 7 April 2017 (UTC)
- Ah. Shockoe Hill. I don't recall if that's walkable, actually, from VCU - my sense is that it's not, but that may be because I don't like the neighborhood much. The cemetery is one of the few parts of Richmond I actually know reasonably well, as an ancestor of mine is buried there, and consequently I've been in attendance at many a wreath-laying in my day. I never cared at all for its surroundings, but when it was founded it was one of the ritziest burial spots in Richmond, I'm told. I will say that the cemetery itself is well-waymarked, and there are a number of notables buried there, so it can be interesting. (It's not so bad for walking - it's the streets around I don't like.) So...if you see Peter Francisco, tell him I say hi. :-) (I actually passed his house yesterday myself.)
- It's been a good long while since I've been in Buckingham County in daylight, and it struck me how similar to the Tidewater counties it is in terms of landscape - very flat, rather green. Big stands of forest off the main road, though. It's very rural. Buckingham Courthouse has a lovely central green, such as it is. I seem to recall that the geographical center of Virginia is in the county, but I didn't see it yesterday. Still, I could swear it's marked.
- That little exchange in Orange really reminded me where my roots are. :-) Nothing wrong with that - I may be a northern Virginian in upbringing, but my heart's in Tidewater and Piedmont - always has been. (I have been in Bucks County - come to think of it, my ancestor might have been, too, during the Revolution; he saw action at Brandywine.)
- As for me, it looks like I'll be at a loose end tomorrow. So I may do some mopping up down this way - I know there are some places in Isle of Wight and Surry Counties to photograph, and I can probably do a little bit of work on Charles City and maybe James City Counties on the way as well. We'll see what pans out. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 04:00, 8 April 2017 (UTC)
- Well done - did you find any unillustrated sites? Richmond's pretty well covered, as I recall. (I'm actually writing this from Chester. Tried to get a room in Petersburg, but the hotel was full up.) What did you think of Shockoe? There seems to be a strong volunteer cemetery association which is doing good work there.
- As for me, it looks like I'll be at a loose end tomorrow. - I spent a little time on 60 the other day, but the bulk of my photographing time I spent along 15 north of Dillwyn. It might well be hilly - I can't say I noticed it there - but there are fewer stands of forest along the road, which struck me. Lots of grass patches. And lots of small family cemeteries along the roadside, which is something else I've not noticed much in other counties.
- I started the day in Williamsburg, and picked up two sites in James City County; I forewent a third which would have taken me twenty minutes out of my way. Then I took the ferry across to Scotland, a wonderful trip which I highly recommend when you come down that way. I spent the rest of the day photographing stuff in Isle of Wight and Surry Counties. It was a mixed bag. Found some things easily. Could not get to the Col. Josiah Parker Family Cemetery because it's off a private road...which is a pity because I've really come to like the old fellow the more I read about him, and I was hoping for the chance to pay homage. But I did manage to cover a couple of archaeological districts, thanks largely to finding a couple of historic markers I wasn't expecting. Two of my sites in Surry County turned out to be wrong - one was due to poor planning on my part (I looked for it on a whim...hadn't planned on it initially), but the other was due to unclear directions in my list (Walnut Valley is not at the southeast corner of the two roads listed - it's south of there, southeast of a bend in the unnamed farm road. I was practically on top of it, but without coordinates - my phone doesn't like them - I looked in another direction entirely.) All told, though, I photographed thirteen sites today, one of which was Ivy Hill Cemetery, where I also photographed two Congressmen's graves. So...not bad at all, really.
- We'll see about tomorrow - looks like I'm not going to the Eastern Shore this trip, so I'll probably focus more on Southside. Most likely Southampton and Sussex Counties, as those appear to need the most work, but I might swing into Dinwiddie and/or Brunswick County, depending on time. Or maybe I'll stick a bit closer to Richmond. Haven't quite decided yet.
- Incidentally, I don't know if you're familiar with the work of Ellen Glasgow, but she wrote a lot of novels set in rural Virginia, mostly Southside. I have read two - Barren Ground, which I liked, and Vein of Iron, which I didn't. Just before I found Rogers' Store today I passed a house by the roadside which is the spitting image of the one on the cover of my copy of the novel. And catty-corner to the store is a Methodist church building that could pass for the Presbyterian church she describes in the book. All the town of Carsley needs to make it the "Pedlar's Store" of her story is a railroad and stop, neither of which exist there. Still, my drive today really drove home the point that Glasgow was at her best when she wrote of Southside, because she captures the character of the landscape in a remarkable way. Powerful stuff. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 04:32, 9 April 2017 (UTC)
- So...in the event, I didn't pick up any sites in Sussex County, because I took a semi-unplanned detour out to Nottoway County which ate up more time than I was expecting. It was reasonably fruitful - I picked up some sort of illustration for four of the five remaining sites on the county list. (I wish I could find something for the Little Mountain Pictograph Site, but for now that must remain a restricted address.) Also photographed a stray site in Dinwiddie County along US 40. Everything else I got today was in Southampton County. (Except for a Daughters of the Confederacy marker in Chesterfield County near where I had breakfast - ah, that was a fun little detour, let me tell you.) Got five in total...I think. The house I photographed at Belmont is not at the listed coordinates. There is a house there, but the one that I photographed is just to the south. I think it looks right...trouble is it's set back from the road on a private drive, and thus it's hard to get a bead on. I'll upload the picture soon and ask you to give it the once-over.

- Home tomorrow - I'm going to go back through Amelia/Cumberland/Buckingham Counties and do some mopping up there. Maybe Fluvanna if I can swing it. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 04:22, 10 April 2017 (UTC)
- Edit - make that three of five for Nottoway. I think I got the wrong house for Mountain Hall. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 04:35, 10 April 2017 (UTC)
- I actually tend to use addresses rather than coordinates - my phone doesn't like coordinates. It's starting to get cute with addresses, too, though - Mountain Hall is at 181 Mountain Hall Dr., and the house I found is at 181 Mountain Hall Rd. I've had similar frustrations off and on over this whole trip - same thing happened today in Amelia County, in point of fact.
- Not that I care, because I FOUND THE THORNTON TOMB. Fourth try was the charm. It wasn't actually especially difficult to do without a ranger - if you like I can guide you through it. Once you know what landmarks to look for it should be easy to find. Found a couple of things in Buckingham County that I'd missed, too, plus a handful of others elsewhere. So it was a good day overall. I'll start sorting out the pictures in the next day or two. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 05:57, 11 April 2017 (UTC)
Are you serious?
Hello Nyttend, You just declined the speedy G4 I applied at Karuppu Raja Vellai Raja and called it vandalism or absolute cluelessness so I'm asking you the same question are you serious? and can you please point a single source which is reliable? do you have time to look at the sources? I'm not an admin who can see deleted articles so can you please compare the sources with the previously deleted article. I'm very disappointed with your edit summary. Zip Code List
Hi-I left a message at The Catalyst31's talk page about the zip code list; in the Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont there are several blue links that were redirected to other articles. There are also one or two articles in the list that need info boxes. I left the blue links alone at the zip code list for the three states mentioned. The Catalyst is working on the zip code list. I told The Catalyst31 I would informed you since you were mentioned at The Catalyst31's talk page. Many thanks again-RFD (talk) 10:38, 9 April 2017 (UTC)
That church near Muscoda
I was curious about this photo, so I did some digging, and it turns out it's the Basswood Union Church. The church doesn't have a GNIS entry, but its cemetery does. I don't think Basswood is really close enough to Muscoda for this to belong in the Muscoda article, but at least we have a photo for Basswood now. TheCatalyst31 Reaction•Creation 21:34, 9 April 2017 (UTC)
- I got lucky; a search for the photo took me to this Pinterest post that said it was in Basswood. Probably wouldn't have found it otherwise, though I figured from the landscape that it had to be somewhere in southwestern Wisconsin. TheCatalyst31 Reaction•Creation 23:35, 9 April 2017 (UTC)
- And now we have a photo for Muscoda again. The last two unillustrated NRHP sites in Richland County were right around Muscoda, so I killed two birds with one stone. TheCatalyst31 Reaction•Creation 01:29, 17 April 2017 (UTC)
(Breaking this out from the above discussion.)
I've begun uploading my images from the trip, and I wanted to ask your advice about this site. It's in Culpeper County. I went to the location listed, and the picture is what I see at the address. Thing is, I'm not convinced it's the actual house. I've checked it against both the description in the state form and the photograph on the DHR website, and it could be the same building, restored and expanded. Or it could not. Further muddying matters, according to the map attached to the nomination form, is the fact that it appears the listing boundary doesn't extend to Clover Hill Rd. In which case, this house is not that on the Register, as it's flush against the road.
So I don't know - do you think this is the house, or is it possibly another? Either way I'm inclined to leave the image up as it represents whatever is at the address...I just want to make sure it's labeled correctly. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 20:35, 11 April 2017 (UTC)
- I've tweaked things accordingly. Haven't removed the image from the article, because it does represent something, but I've taken it out of the infobox and out of the county list.
- I've begun uploading my images from the trip. Buckingham County has filled out nicely, and Amelia will do the same; I got a couple of new sites there, and visited Wigwam, which I also photographed. (Mine's pretty good...not as good as the one in the article, but I don't think that's actually been correctly uploaded and is a copyvio.) Also found the Tabb Monument, which has always intrigued me. I'm quite frustrated, though, that I blew past French's Tavern on Monday, saw it - it was right by the road as I passed - and didn't check if it had an image, and so didn't stop for one myself. (In my defense, I a.) was making time to Cumberland to search for the Thornton grave again, and b.) had other things on my mind at that moment as well.)
- I should have responded last night, but as soon as I got home from choir rehearsal I pretty well collapsed. I booked it from Farmville on Monday night, and arrived at home at about one the next morning. Looks like I hadn't recovered as much as I'd hoped.
- More uploads to come, both today and in the next few. Got a couple of others I'm probably going to pick your brain about. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 02:35, 13 April 2017 (UTC)
- Excellent. For the military sites - have you scoured Flickr, by any chance? I had a cursory search earlier, without luck, but that doesn't mean there's nothing out there, especially given the amount of DoD photography to which we have access through that site. I'd imagine that at least the Jamestown Exposition sites might be available there.
- I've still got a couple of counties to upload - my photos from Orange, Nottoway, and Cumberland, as well as the single stray site I found for Prince Edward County. Uploaded Southampton earlier today. I ultimately decided that I'm not sure about Belmont...I'm not convinced the building at the coordinates is correct, but it could be, judging by the satellite photo on Google Maps - it might have been enlarged considerably. And I couldn't see it from the road. I think there's at least as much likelihood that the house I photographed is correct, based on a handful of clues, but in the event the picture I got was bad enough that it's not a whole lot of help. Brown's Ferry, now...I'm not sure what's going on there. That is the house at the coordinates (it's actually photographable from the road, but there was someone behind me and no place to pull over, so I had to skip it in favor of the zoomed image), and furthermore it was actually pointed out to me by a neighbor as the correct location. I'm wondering if it's not the original building, only substantially altered.
- The progress page says we're up above 78% illustrated for Virginia; I have no doubt that will tick north of 80% at the next update. Looks like the majority of the work that needs doing now is in the counties west of Richmond - Powhatan and Goochland especially. What about Henry County? Did you hit there yet? --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 08:17, 16 April 2017 (UTC)
- That's also a decided possibility. (acme.mapper.com doesn't want to work with my computer right now.) I'll reword the caption accordingly - the only reason I thought this might be the original house, altered, is because of some architectural peculiarities for a one-story house. Wouldn't surprise me to find the house had been destroyed, as it appears to have been in lousy shape already at the time of the listing. (Looks like it was still standing in 1999, though - the Virginia Landmarks Register book on Google Books has it in "a state of near collapse".)

- I'd prefer something more contemporary for the Jamestown Buildings if it's available, but I ain't picky. :-)
- Henry County appears to be one of the last few counties out west that needs photographic upkeep. However, I have had some rather exciting developments: check out this exchange on my talk page, related to a previous image of Wigwam. If it's even remotely true, we might be able to get images from the Virginia DHR for free use, and that would cover...well, a lot. A whole lot.
- Oh, and by the by - happy Easter! --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 17:20, 16 April 2017 (UTC)
- Good heavens - how much of a drive was that, down to Danville? I did it once, in college, and as I recall from Williamsburg it was a good four hours or so. (Had a friend who lived there, and we did a spur-of-the-moment weekend trip). That, plus an overnight stop on a choir tour about a year later, remains my only experience with the town.

- For that matter, that pocket of Virginia is the one I know least well, I think. I may have been through Pittyslvania County, Martinsville, those places at some point, but I really don't remember them at all. (That trip to Danville on tour, I seem to recall coming north via Dinwiddie County, so probably we crossed something along the way.) I've heard of the streetcar diner in Chatham, and seem to recall hearing something about the type somewhere, but I don't remember where. Of course, the critical question: is the food any good? :-)
- One of the diners in that same MPS is not too far from me, actually: 29 Diner. Never eaten there (although funnily enough, I did pass by there a few months ago on my way to an Uyghur restaurant with friends. Parse that however you wish.) There's actually a diner in Vienna, not too far away, that's always open, and which is one of my favorite haunts in the county. Wish I lived closer. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 03:27, 17 April 2017 (UTC)
- It's always sad to see a story like that. While I was gathering my photographs of Buckingham County I came across this; the house was the last remnant of the Institute itself, apparently (everything else left at the site being an ancillary building). It's a great pity, especially as I wonder if the structure could have been saved. (Its loss would explain some of the confusion I had looking at the site, trying to find something that wasn't there.) --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 03:13, 21 April 2017 (UTC)
- I quite agree - that's one of the reasons I so enjoy the NRHP project. And Wikipedia as a whole, really - we're creating a record of the world as it changes, documenting things as they happen and as they disappear. I don't think any of my NRHP photos have document a site that has since been destroyed, but I know of at least one that documents a site prior to its restoration: Huntley (plantation). My photo is far down the page, on the left side; it was the infobox photo for a long while, until the house was restored.

- That being said, I've found my photos used at a number of outside sites...some pictures of historic properties, some of government buildings. A couple of a mall near me that just underwent significant refitting, too. A number of things have shown up on travel blogs and the like. It amuses me no end. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 05:13, 21 April 2017 (UTC)
- Good luck - it will be nice to see some of those archaeological sites expanded. I just finished uploading the last of my pictures (I think? Have to check to make sure I haven't missed any.) I added the Nottoway ones to their respective articles; Orange County I will do tomorrow, and hopefully that will take care of everything I have.
- I also just treated myself to a late birthday present for my work with Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red, but that's a matter for another time... --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 05:32, 21 April 2017 (UTC)

Hey Nyttend, and I'll address JamesBWatson in the same message, I am sorry I chose my words less delicately than I should have. I was merely trying to express some surprise, not criticizing any of you for oversight or something like that. Like I said, I hadn't followed or looked for links pertaining to the hounding so I don't know if they're related to the Dao matter or not. At any rate, Nyttend, thanks for your response, and sorry (to you too, JBW) if I didn't phrase it very well. I think part of my shock was the very fact that BS had created that thing in the first place. Thanks to both, Drmies (talk) 20:06, 13 April 2017 (UTC)
@Drmies: I didn't read your comment as criticism. I read it as partly (as you say) expressing surprise, and partly raising another matter which was relevant and hadn't been given much attention. I think in situations like this mentioning other matters which are relevant can be helpful to whatever administrator reviews the latest unblock request or any subsequent ones, so whether you had that in mind or not your comment may have been useful. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 20:22, 13 April 2017 (UTC)

"Cleaning demographics" -- population ages being "spread out"
I've noticed that virtually every Wikipedia article about a city or town in the US has a section talking about the age of the population. I recently encountered this line when reading about The Villages, FL:
In the CDP, the population was spread out with 0.3% under the age of 18, 0.3% from 18 to 24, 1.5% from 25 to 44, 40.4% from 45 to 64, and 57.5% 65 years of age or older. The median age was 66 years.
The Villages is a retirement community, and with that population spread, that certainly doesn't actually look very "spread out." I thus did a search to see when the text was added, and it appears to have been added here by you.
I've found that this text in most other articles is actually from User:Ram-Man's User:rambot, so I'll reach out to him, but I just wanted to check with you and see what the circumstances were surrounding your insertion of it in this article. Thanks.
cluth (talk) 23:51, 15 April 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reply. I think the wording is confusing and misleading, then, and should probably be revised. I've noticed that many of the larger articles (where the Demographics section has either been hand-edited or has been split off into a separate Demographics of XXX article) have clearer verbiage. Here's an example from Demographics of Chicago:
- "Of the city population, 26.2% were under the age of 18, 11.2% were from 18 to 24, 33.4% are from 25 to 44, 18.9% from 45 to 64, and 10.3% 65 years of age or older. The median age was 32 years."
- Where's a good place to discuss this?
- I agree the existing Chicago example is not grammatically ideal; I was just using it to further the discussion.
- Your proposed example is fine, and I don't see a need to trim any of the wases. However, how about this:
- The population in the PLACETYPE consisted of 1% under the age of 18, 2% between 18 and 24, 3% between 25 and 44, 4% between 45 and 64, and 90% aged 65 years or older.
- Thoughts? Happy to keep the ideas rolling.
Deletion of page INSIGHT: DNA of Success
Hello, Can you please explain why this page was deleted. As per A7, A7 "is a lower standard than notability," And the general notability guidelines state: "If a topic has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject"
I had given appropriate references within the article that I believe pass this notability guideline. So I do not believe the article should have been deleted under the A7 (or any other section for that matter). Thank You Bsnigam (talk) 09:35, 16 April 2017 (UTC)

Interaction ban.
As per the interaction ban between myself, Dennis Bratland (and a few others) https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?oldid=702684162#Civility.2FPersonal_attacks I have a question and a possible violation report.
Dennis Bratland's edit: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=KTM_390_series&diff=prev&oldid=756058579
If you look at the talk page comments by Dennis Bratland (made after I added the content that he later removed) it seems clear her was aware who added that content.
I didn't really want to take this to ANI - as that place is a constant drama fest - and obviously I will abide by any decision you make. Thanks Spacecowboy420 (talk) 13:14, 21 April 2017 (UTC)

- It's a problem for the content, when two active editors in a project can't talk to each other. I could start an article or project talkpage comment on Revzilla as a source, starting with the points against it raised at AfD, but then what? At worst, we have a race to the finish line and the other one gets locked out of the conversation. The project really has about 5 active editors so this is "non optimal" as we say. - Bri (talk) 15:53, 21 April 2017 (UTC)
- It certainly is sub-optimal, but the fault lies with the people who can't interact properly, not with people who have bent over backwards not to just block all 5 of them. Dennis just reverted, so I've blocked him for 72 hours. Since I do not care if the edit stays or goes, I'm leaving it, and Spacecowboy will just have to deal with not having it there unless someone uninvolved re-adds it. --Floquenbeam (talk) 16:11, 21 April 2017 (UTC)

Hi, could you have a look at this proposal and see if it works for you? I think it's the easiest and fasted way to get rid of the situation. Non-free use rationales for File:MSU Bronze Sparty 2.jpg
If the non-free use rationales are easily provided for those two particular articles, then please do so. Personally, writing a rationale for Sparty seems more plausible than for Michigan State since there is quite a bit of sourced discussion of the statue in the former, but very little in the latter. The non-free justification for the university's article seems at best questionable per WP:NFCC#8 and a link to the Sparty article is more than sufficient per item 6 of WP:UUI. FWIW, I'm not trying to be snarky. I added the template because it did not seem obvious to me that suitible rationales could be written for either article. That's also why I added a {{Missing rationale2}} to the respective article talk pages, so that someone would be aware of the issue and give them a chance to write the nfur(s).
There are two issues which need to sorted out: the copyright status of the statue and the photo. There's no freedom of panorama for 3D works of art in the US, so its likely that the underlying work, i.e., the statue itself, would be considered protected by copyright given the year it was installed, hence the need for a nfur. That leaves the copyright status of the photo itself to sort out. If it was taken by the uploader, then the uploader can most likely license the photo as "own work". If, however, the uploader is not "Jeff Shannon", then it's possible that the photo itself will also need OTRS verification or something else to verify that the copyright holder has agreed to released the photo under a free license. -- Marchjuly (talk) 08:34, 29 April 2017 (UTC)
Re: File:JESC New Logo.jpg
I know that .jpg and .svg are nowhere near being the same file format; but the file itself is orphaned and no longer being used, because of the svg format's precedence. I was pretty sure I tagged both F1 and F5 on the CSD, weird that it didn't save them both. Anyhow, File:JESC New Logo.jpg was allegedly a download from the official website. However, File:Junior Eurovision Song Contest generic logo.svg also states to be from the official website. Confused the hell out of me, but seeing as the jpg version is orphaned and the svg is more recent, that was why I placed it for CSD. Any chance of checking again and seeing if deletion is required. Or do I have to renominate it again? Wes Wolf Talk 23:31, 1 May 2017 (UTC)
- Actually, Wesley Wolf, neither of those criteria apply. F5 — that's only for nonfree images, but this is {{PD-textlogo}}. F1 — the criterion firmly states that it's only for files of identical formats. Even when there's a slight difference between files, there might be a good reason for having both, so deletion on redundancy grounds is inappropriate unless we give people the chance to explain why both are needed, so it's necessary to send the JPG to WP:FFD. Nyttend (talk) 23:36, 1 May 2017 (UTC)
- Although it is a textlogo, it is actually a trademark that uses a typeface exclusively owned by the European Broadcasting Union for the branding purpose of Eurovision and Junior Eurovision - and from what I gather is protected under Swiss copyright laws, hence why these are rarely found at commons. I can't remember where the discussion about that is to hand, but I'll find it - as similar logos for Eurovision were deleted on the sam rationale. Wes Wolf Talk 00:00, 2 May 2017 (UTC)
Why I tagged Kamruddin Haji as g5
Just to give you some insight into my tag - SunilGuptaWiki was indeed blocked for abusing multiple accounts. Sock account BabluBhaiyaEdits created Haji Kamruddin on April 28th, the same time as all the other Servokon spam which originated with SGW. BeetelDataUser created this same article but with the words reversed. The SPI for Beetel is still pending, however I'm pretty confident this is in duck territory hence my tag. Photo trips
You're wise to give Fairfax County a miss this weekend - this morning was one of the wettest I have seen in some time (I felt like a drowned rat coming into the office today), and word is we're supposed to get more storms tomorrow. Regardless, it's not particularly pleasant out; it's grey, far too cool for April, and rather nasty. We can do better...and hopefully we shall, as we move towards June.
Parking isn't actually that bad in either Alexandria or Arlington on a weekend, depending on where you go. For Alexandria, my recommendation would be to use the parking garage under Market Square at Alexandria City Hall; the entrance is on Fairfax Street between King and Cameron. It's right in the heart of the historic district, and is reasonably cheap - although they've upped prices recently, it's still something like five dollars, max, for the day on Saturday. Most of the Register sites in town are within a fairly easy walk of the garage, so you'll be able to hit a large number at once. If that lot is full...and I doubt very much it will be, it never is when I go into town...there's another one, a bit more expensive, down on Union Street by the Torpedo Factory Art Center.
In Arlington there are a couple of public garages; I tend to favor the one next to the former Ballston Common Mall - it's county-owned and reasonably cheap. That being said, a lot of the Arlington sites are less concentrated than in Alexandria, and many are in residential areas, so I'd keep an eye out for street parking. Might be tricky to find in some places, but shouldn't be too difficult, by and large.
Traffic: it depends, but I doubt you'll have much trouble. I-66 has a tendency to be slow even on weekends, usually in the Vienna area. And Route 1 might be bad - you can probably avoid it, for the most part. Otherwise, generally the only thing you'll have to worry about, most likely, is road work. (You're not planning on coming into DC, are you? That might change the dynamic significantly.) My recommendation, also, is to tune your radio to WTOP, 103.5 FM; they do a traffic report every ten minutes beginning at eight past the hour, and are a very useful resource.
A couple of miscellaneous thoughts: the ruins of Belvoir are on an active military installation, and I doubt you'll be able to visit them. The Orange and Alexandria Railroad Hooff's Run Bridge is actually part of the road; if you follow the coordinates - which are not quite accurate - you'll end up on top of it. The best vantage point is from the little pedestrian area adjacent.
Are you interested at all in non-National Register sites? There are a handful of interesting ones in Fairfax County to which I can direct you also.
Oh, and as I mentioned earlier, there is an NRHP-listed diner in Fairfax, for when you get hungry. Though I prefer the Amphora Diner in Vienna, myself...it's open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and has quite an extensive menu. :-) --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 15:21, 5 May 2017 (UTC)
- Yeah, Fairfax County is probably worth a day on its own - it's a lot larger than people realize at first blush. (I live in the southeastern pocket of the county - it takes me about an hour to cross it.) Any idea when you'll be up this way? Let me know if you want to meet up - I'm usually pretty free on weekends. And I'm always happy to provide driving advice in these precincts. (For what it's worth, there's a suite of WPA murals at the post office in Clarendon - I've not been to see them, and I've been meaning to rectify that for a while.)
- Congratulations on your brush with greatness. I've had a few in my day, way back when - being in the choir meant I got to sing in every commencement ceremony over four years of college, including my own (I saw Margaret Thatcher my freshman year) - but wasn't on Wikipedia at the time, and wouldn't have been able to photograph any of them anyway, given that I would have been quite conspicuous.
- Virginia's at over 80% of the sites illustrated now, last I checked. I'm about done with my photographing trips for now, unless I decide to do the Tangier Island trip this summer, in which case I hope to cover some of the Northern Neck. We'll see if that comes about, though. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 05:26, 15 May 2017 (UTC)
Question
Do you remember a kerfuffle over Argument from authority about a year ago? You ended up issuing short TE/CIR blocks to two editors over it after I complained at ANI and here. (Your ANI response.) I was curious if you'd take a look at the current state (which resulted after there was another edit war with two different editors this time) of the page and give me your opinion on whether a TBAN would be appropriate.
One example: the youtube martial artist source is back, complete with claims that he's a "published historian and archeologist". And there's OR in the lead, claiming some kind of disagreement among philosophers which isn't supported by sources, but gets edit warred back in every time anyone tried to correct it.
Plus there's one editor who refuses to edit that page while one of them is still doing so, and another editor who has apparently left the project entirely over this. I gave up on fixing that article a while back (so I guess that makes 3 editors chased away by these two) until an editor I was trying to mentor got involved and couldn't abide the thought of leaving a bad article alone. I'm still very reluctant to jump back in, however.
I've watched your page, so feel free to reply here without a notification. I'll understand if your reply is that you don't want to touch this with a ten-foot pole. ᛗᛁᛟᛚᚾᛁᚱPants Tell me all about it. 19:33, 8 May 2017 (UTC)
- Yes, I remember that situation; I don't want to touch it, but I suppose I should. I can't do anything beyond a quick response until after I'm off work, so we'll have to wait a couple of hours. Nyttend (talk) 19:47, 8 May 2017 (UTC)
- No problem. I know the editing-at-work limits, all too well. ᛗᛁᛟᛚᚾᛁᚱPants Tell me all about it. 20:16, 8 May 2017 (UTC)
- Seeing that FL and Orange have both been engaged in contentious editing, despite the warning I gave in the ANI response, I've blocked both of them for a week. If they keep it after the block, and if I learn of it before any other admins get involved, I'll be tempted to give a significantly longer block and propose a topic ban. Not familiar with other editors involved, so I'm not doing anything yet; let me investigate. Nyttend (talk) 22:29, 8 May 2017 (UTC)
- PS, as PraiseTheShroom and Endercase are more peacefully involved on the talk page, I don't see any reason to do anything more, especially as PraiseTheShroom hasn't edited the article in two weeks. And minus the two blocked editors, I don't think the page warrants protection. Nyttend (talk) 22:47, 8 May 2017 (UTC)
- (edit conflict)I appreciate that. The only other editor who supported (PraiseTheShroom) them has not been remotely disruptive IMHO, unless you consider speaking like a member of the nobility in a fantasy novel disruptive. Kleuske, David Tornheim and Endercase were all working in good faith, AFAIK (I helped the latter two create a draft lede in Endercase's talk space: notice was given at the article talk beforehand and the disruptive pair were invited to participate, despite their protestations of not knowing about it). ᛗᛁᛟᛚᚾᛁᚱPants Tell me all about it. 22:52, 8 May 2017 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Seologist
Hi I'm MassiveYR!, I just wanted to comment about the speedy deletion of a page that I had recently created called Seologist. You deleted the page because it falled under the G11 criteria, I know the information on it sounded like it was an advertisement, I wanted to improve it more and work on it as quickly as possible, that's why it had a Under Construction Template. Can you elaborate more on why you deleted the page? Thanks. MassiveYR ♠ 08:42, 11 May 2017 (UTC)

Removing extended confirmed
Did you intend to remove extendedconfirmed from MassiveYR along with the other permissions? Extended confirmed should almost never be removed, and when it has been removed in the past, it's always been via consensus at WP:AE to my knowledge. This motion by the Arbitration Committee seemed to rather firmly state the user group should not be removed by individual administrators. I've restored the user group for now, since I expect this was just a matter of unchecking the wrong box while appropriately revoking other advanced permissions. ~ Rob13Talk 03:35, 15 May 2017 (UTC)

Attack other users?
...I can understand the revert here - while I find it important to point out charlatans donning the mantle of science and academia, I also understand that everything has its place, and others might disagree about whether or not that was a proper place to make my point. But how does my comment (that I took to be fairly light-hearted and in good humour) attack other users? Except for Jerry Falwell jr. and arguably Donald Trump, neither of which I think are users here (and if they are, that does not insulate them from valid criticism). --Stephan Schulz (talk) 20:15, 15 May 2017 (UTC)

- Well, I think we need to agree to disagree. Liberty University simply does not meet the criteria for a university in modern sense - see [1]. - Stephen, the only problem with Liberty University that I've ever seen an inkling of is its stance on young-earth creationism. For a lawyer, computer scientists, liberal arts major, etc, etc, etc, it is a perfectly fine university. Were that photo something to do with biology grads, you might have had some leg to stand on. As it is, your comment there had nothing to do with the question. Here's my advice:
- Stand still as the trout swoops in. Breathe in the fishy smell. Accept the wet smacking sound and the mild thrum of impact. Then move on. - Any time - let me know when you want to hit Fairfax and I can introduce you to something in my part of the county. For whatever that's worth.
- Congratulations on finding everything...even if you didn't get all the boundary markers (did you find the one at Jones Point?), you did manage to get something to represent the whole listing, so it's a start. I ended up taking a long wander back on the way home - didn't stop on the Seminary grounds, though I did stop close by, but I got some nice photographs of Alexandria neighborhoods to work with. I actually have to go back into DC tomorrow for a choir board meeting, so I'll probably end up doing some more wandering on the way home. I know a couple of high schools that really need illustrating, for starters...
- Can't say I noticed the state of your car, particularly, but I do sympathize; my own front bumper is a bit precarious at the moment thanks to an encounter with a poorly-designed parking space in Blackstone in early April. I should get it looked at...someday, perhaps. Nice montage - any hope of showing it to a legislator who'll do something about the problem?
- As for Manassas, I find the less said about it, the better. :-) Not my favorite part of the area, honestly...though to be fair, I don't really know the downtown. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 08:38, 21 May 2017 (UTC)

Stratford Methodist Episcopal Church, Delaware Ohio
Hi Nyttend. I am not particularly fluent in Wikipedia etiquette, so please bear with me. I would like to update the entry for the Stratford M.E. Church in Delaware OH.
I purchased the Stratford M. E. Church in December of 2014, and in the time since, I have done extensive research on the building and the town of Stratford. I am a registered architect and will soon start the renovation of this building for the future home of my architecture firm.
Much of the Wikipedia entry’s references, including the 1991 application for the building’s placement on the National Registry, are based on "AN HISTORICAL SKETCH OF THE STRATFORD METHODIST CHURCH AND THE SURROUNDING COMMUNITY OF STRATFORD, OHIO" by David L. Forrey dated May 1st, 1958. David Forrey was the last pastor of this church. His document is the best recorded history we have of the Stratford mill town.
While I cannot verify many of the details of David Forrey’s history, I can verify the information about the physical structure of the building. Strangely, many of the items in his architectural description of the building he provides are incorrect. It is especially odd, because of all the history he provides in his document – the description of the physical building would have been the simplest to verify. All he needed to do was look around at the church he was the pastor of. I can't explain why this information is incorrect - and sadly, it puts the accuracy of the rest of his document in question.
For almost 2.5 years my firm has been planning the renovation of this building. We sought and were awarded both state and federal tax credits for our renovation with the project being heavily reviewed by both the Ohio Historic Preservation Office and the National Park Service. They have reviewed our renovation in reference to the history of the building and have required us to provide extensive documentation of the existing structure. We also coordinated with and have overwhelming support for our project from the City of Delaware, The Delaware County Historical Society (who is our neighbor in Stratford), and several other community groups that have a strong interest in the Stratford mill town.
There are a few facts that are incorrect in the Wikipedia entry. Since we will be starting our renovation in the next month, I would like to get the facts corrected. This building is very well known in Delaware County, OH. We expect a lot of interest from the public and probably some hits on this Wikipedia entry. I also plan on following up with the National Park Service to update the information they have on file.
Please let me know what you might require from me to confirm changes to this entry. Thanks! Davekerrarch (talk) 01:21, 22 May 2017 (UTC)

You removed the CSD tags on Template:Infobox Swiss town/sandbox2/testcases on the basis that it's a subpage of Template:Infobox Swiss town. It's a subpage of, and dependent on, Template:Infobox Swiss town/sandbox2 which has been deleted. Lil Uzi Jeff Deleted
I believe deleting the Article "Lil Uzi Jeff" Was very rash, and done without good reason. I was in the process of creating the page with a couple collaborators. The reason it "Was not Relevant" Is because it didn't exist. The Page was supposedly deleted because of lack of relevance. I worked a while to it, and I believe that it should be brought back up, and I can finish creating. Please reconsider your decision, as I worked very long and hard on it!BlueAvocado (talk) 01:10, 26 May 2017 (UTC)BlueAvocado

Hi, Nyttend. I noticed that you just speedy deleted User:BucaFan3/Shy Kidx and User:Bubba1987/Kyle Irion . International recognition of Khojaly Genocide
Hello. I was surprised to see that you declined speedy G4 on International recognition of Khojaly Genocide, but even more surprised at your edit summary when declining: "Rv cluelessness: did you even look at the deleted content? Don't tag for G4 unless you have solid evidence".
Yes, I did look carefully. The original article, Khojaly Massacre recognition, was userfied to User:Interfase/Khojaly Massacre recognition following 2nd AFD. It's a list of state and supranational recognition of the Khojaly Massacre. The new article, International recognition of Khojaly Genocide, is almost entirely the same article: in the supranational section Human Rights Watch and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (which called it a massacre) have been replaced with the Heydar Aliyev Foundation in Brussels and Turkey; there's a slightly longer lists of countries (unreferenced) and of U.S. states (barely referenced), with 6 inline references overall compared to 52 in the original. Three WP:RS of the six in the new article from U.S. state legislatures are also used in the original; the other WP:RS is new.
The only significant change to the new article is that the word "massacre" has been replaced by "genocide" in the title and throughout the re-created article, despite the references overwhelmingly using the word "massacre" in the original, and in all of the four WP:RS in the new except the one from the Azerbaijani government website. This wording was the subject of frequent edit-warring in Khojaly Massacre, but consensus there and in all but one of the articles in Category:Khojaly Massacre was to use "massacre". The sole exception in article titles in the category is the exact name of a memorial. I'd be grateful if you could compare the old and new articles again.
The new article is clearly a POV page fork of the old, using the disputed wording throughout, chopping all but three the sources that use the word "massacre", and adding two opinion blog sources and one government source that use the word "genocide".
The duplication was immediately obvious to me, though I can see how it might not have been to other editors. I should also mention that I would have voted "keep or merge" in the AFD: my aim in speedying it was to follow WP policy on article recreation following AFD. Vice City Soundtrack
Why is the Grand Theft Auto Vice City soundtrack redirected to the main page, while GTA3, GTA San Andreas, GTA4 and GTA5 still keep their own soundtrack pages??
Are you going to be consistent and redirect these too?
Damian001 (talk) 22:23, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
- I've redirected III soundtrack since it has nothing to establish notability. IV and V do have some reliable sources, so they might plausibly be notable. More likely is that the reliably sourced information should be merged and the articles also subsequently redirected. That said, please review a popular essay on comparing pages. --Izno (talk) 22:54, 29 May 2017 (UTC)

- (talk page watcher) I believe what Godsy means in that e/s is that he has never, per WP:NOBAN, formally requested anyone stay off his page, until now. — O Fortuna semper crescis, aut decrescis 14:40, 31 May 2017 (UTC)
- That's how I interpret it, too: don't come here again unless you must, e.g. an ANI warning. How did you interpret it? I'm not clear how to respond, since I don't see what you're thinking. Nyttend (talk) 14:59, 31 May 2017 (UTC)
- I took it to mean he's never deleted my comments before, but that was because it immediately popped up on my feed as a revert so that was where my head was at. Your read is more likely correct. I'm not interested in debating him and will respect what looks like his request to not post on his talk page except for required notifications and (at my discretion) to respond to any more direct allegations against me. Lynchburg College
You've hit upon exactly the reason I'm always careful photographing high schools. I'm sure my presence would attract attention - especially during the school day. I managed through luck to get three over the past few weekends, which I've yet to upload. All three were taken on weekends, when the area was devoid of students.
I'm a little surprised at how difficult it is to photograph colleges, though - I tend to think of their campuses as public-ish space. Public enough, at least, that they shouldn't be barring people from entry.
Anyhow, no new NRHP photography for me for a while, it looks like - I have enough stuff on the docket that I doubt I'll be able to get away. What about you - have you visited any more pockets of Virginia yet? --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 05:57, 7 June 2017 (UTC)
- Oh, he's right...absolutely. I think I've only ever photographed one other school that's still in use, and that's on a semi-main road near my house. Always after hours...or during the summer...or on weekends. (Can't remember which.)
- I've generally had good luck with homeowners confronting me, or not, as the case may be - nobody's ever been unpleasant, and I've only ever had one or two encounters in the first place. My favorite was out in Orange County in April, when I saw the homeowner mowing the grass on a riding mower in front of the house. I know he saw me - the only place to pull over was the mouth of his driveway, and I was quite obviously raising a camera to my face. He just waved and went on mowing. Quite neighborly, really. :-)
- There was one government building, once, but that was a different matter.
- I see we're just north of 84% photographic coverage of Virginia sites, which is nice; hopefully we can crack 90% by the end of the year. I can think of one or two more trips I can make that would help bump up those numbers, but nothing any time soon. Maybe in another couple of months, we'll see. I'd like to take a shot at Madison County before the fall. No reason why I shouldn't, really, except that I want to stay close to home on the weekends. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 17:14, 7 June 2017 (UTC)
- The spot where I had the problem was the Central Heating Plant; I'd been trying to get photographs of the reliefs mentioned in the article - and managed to get two of the four - before a guard drove me off. I know I've got the right to get the pictures, but I didn't want to fight the point for a variety of reasons.
- I doubt you'll catch much flak for photographing the Pentagon - of course you never know, but it's a large enough, public enough building that I don't much expect anyone to trouble you. That said, I wouldn't try from Washington Boulevard; you should have a fairly clear vantage point from Columbia Island, either from the marina or the Lyndon Baines Johnson Memorial Grove on the Potomac. There's plenty of parking onsite, so you won't have to worry about traffic.
- There's plenty to look for in northern Virginia, definitely - easy two or three days' worth of material, if you want to hit everything at once. It's big, too - it takes me close to an hour to traverse Fairfax County. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 05:31, 8 June 2017 (UTC)

Redirecting Health and wealth
I'm not comfortable with the redirection of Health and wealth to Prosperity theology, a specifically christian theology. The original article referred to the phrase as a saying. It could equally apply to the medical article Population health#The human role of economic inequality. At the same time I'm not keen on creating dab pages to clarify the possible meanings of random two-word combinations.
As I was searching to support the above I've found several articles on the correlation between wealth & health. A dab article is probably required. I'll knock together a preliminary version. Cabayi (talk) 14:00, 24 June 2017 (UTC)

Coming northeast
Tackling your questions one by one:
- 1.) Hard to say. Lots of people will be out of town, but the Smithsonian Folklife Festival will be taking over the Mall area for the duration of the weekend. (Thursday through Tuesday, as I recall - I'm supposed to be going Sunday with a friend.) So yes, the festivities are on Tuesday, and the weekend is likely to be fairly quiet, but you never know.
- 2.) No idea, sorry - I avoid DC meters like the plague. (Mainly because I don't trust parking enforcement - the rules aren't clear and it's fairly easy to be ticketed.)
- 3.) On-street parking in much of central DC is highly unlikely - I wouldn't even try unless you're in a residential area. (If there, pay attention to the signs, as there are frequently rules about how long non-residents can park in a given area. I usually ask a passing pedestrian to confirm I'm reading them right. To give you some idea of what parking enforcement can be like, I had a friend who was ticketed, on Capitol Hill, for parking too close to an alley. Not blocking it, mind...just parking too close to it.)
- 4.) $10 is very reasonable for downtown DC. It's as decent as anyplace else to leave your car. Franklin Square in particular can be a bit skeevy, but as long as you stay alert when walking and pay attention to your surroundings you should be fine - I've walked through there at night on occasion and been fine as long as I stuck to the street and didn't go into the park.
Sorry I can't be of more help. When I drive in for the Folklife Festival I use the garage at the Holiday Inn Capitol, at 6th and C. SW - otherwise I stick to the Hill.
Talking of which...if you go up there you might have more luck with the parking issue. There are a couple of generally-free and usable lots. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 02:22, 28 June 2017 (UTC)
- Yeah, parking in DC is special. I don't do street parking except in rare circumstances, because I've found that no matter how hard you try to follow the rules there's a good possibility that you've missed something, somewhere. And Lord knows I've known enough people who get ticketed. That said, if you're used to Cincinnati, you should be fine in DC - there's really no place like that here any more. (Portions of Southeast used to be awful, but even those have started cleaning up nicely in recent years.)
- Sorry I wasn't clear - I was talking about parking up on the Hill. Not useful for central DC, perhaps, but maybe for another time. Most of the government-owned lots are available on weekends, and the House/Senate parking lot is open when Congress isn't in session.
- There is a lot in the area you've marked off, but so long as you find a parking garage I think you'll be able to hit most of it. DC's really quite a walkable city, even on hot days - and the street grid is fairly straightforward, except for a bit around the White House. I don't think you'll have any problems finding everything. Wish I could join you, but I'm afraid I have plans for the day. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 05:22, 28 June 2017 (UTC)
