Welcome to the Africa WikiProject. This project covers all articles about people, places, things, and events associated with the African continent, not already covered by other WikiProjects. Our article alerts page is here.
A long-term drive to bring about 10,000 article improvements and creations to Africa has commenced. If you want to help contribute, add your entries at the bottom of Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge.
Goals and scope
edit- Improve Wikipedia's coverage of Africa and maintaining such articles in a neutral and accurate manner.
- To serve as the central point of discussion for issues related to Africa in Wikipedia.
- Create and improve guidelines for articles about items related to Africa.
- Improve and maintain the navigation aids (tables of contents and indexes) for Africa-related topics on Wikipedia. See: Index of Africa-related articles, Outline of Africa, and Category:Africa.
As of 19 November 2024, there are 108,204 articles within the scope of WikiProject Africa, of which 191 are featured and 573 are good articles. This makes up 1.57% of the articles on Wikipedia, 1.72% of all featured articles and lists, and 1.41% of all good articles. Including non-article pages, such as talk pages, redirects, categories, etc., there are 428,668 pages in the project.

Needing work
editIf you're working on an article and you'd like to bring it to the attention of other editors, list it here. There should be no more than 20 articles listed at one time. Put the newest at the top and delete from the bottom when the total is over 20. Format: # [[Article title]], class. Details on what should be done (optional). ~~~~
- Ethiopian Civil War: Start-class; Top-importance for Africa, Ethiopia, Eritrea and Somalia; listed as a level-4 vital article in History. Despite all of this, the article is sparse on details, entire sections lack sources, and overall, it does not cover this topic adequately at all. Marking this as needing expert attention for the past few months has, unfortunately, done very little to change this. If anyone has the knowledge or time to help improve this page, it would be greatly appreciated. XTheBedrockX (talk) 23:36, 30 October 2023 (UTC)
- Leopard Society, stub class. I stumbled into this article recently and noticed it was quite poorly sourced, and upon looking closer it seems it was uncritically asserting claims of barbarism and cannibalism which scholars more recently have argued are questionable and needing careful scrutiny in light of the colonial context. There is additionally much confusion over whether sources are describing the Anyoto society, or the Ekpe. The article is currently marked low importance, but I believe it should possibly be higher due to the society's substantial appearance in western media, often with heavily racist overtones. I have attempted to improve the situation, but I would much appreciate additional perspectives, especially from any available experts. Thank you! StereoFolic (talk) 17:40, 16 July 2023 (UTC)
- Serengeti National Park The park is C-class and is Top Importance. This article has so much information about it online but a lack of any editors to help edit this page. This page gets about 300-200 visitors daily and it really deserves GA, Anyone who wishes to contribute, We welcome you.EpicSnek Talk to me here 00:19, 24 May 2021 (UTC)
- Languages of Ghana is start-class, top importance. The article itself is fine, but many – I could even say most – of the articles linked within it are poorly-written. Compare, for example, the old version of the page on the Fante dialect, before I edited it, to the current Fante dialect page, which is still far from finished. Linguistics is my area of expertise, but not African linguistics, so if anyone is able to assist with editing those language pages, I believe it's necessary. Lingvulo (talk) 23:38, 26 December 2019 (UTC)
- African independence movements This article is nowhere near exhaustive. It fails to address many African independence movements. For the ones it does address, the perspective is strictly European and does not indicate when independence was gained. There are also 0 citations. I would like to help improve the article but am not a subject matter expert. I had just read it for leisure as I'm currently reading Unity and Struggle by Amilcar Cabral and wanted to get some more background – which I somehow got even less background from this article.
- History of the Democratic Republic of the Congo is start-class, top importance. I just added a lead section for the article, but it still needs a lot of references. If anyone could help with that, that would be great. PointsofNoReturn (talk) 22:15, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
- Kasoa and Oduponkpehe stub-class, ranked mid-importance. There are currently two separate articles, Kasoa and Oduponkpehe, that each provide very minimal and inconsistent information about the same town. I would like to condense these two articles into one titled "Kasoa (Oduponkpehe)". In this article, I would like to keep as much of the two articles' original content as is appropriate. In addition, there is a significant amount of critical information that is not included. I would like to add a substantial amount of information that will be drawn from credible and neutral sources. I welcome suggestions, especially regarding relevant information to consider and credible sources that may be relevant. For more information, please refer to the article's Talk Pages and/or my User Talk Page. I sincerely appreciate your time and consideration. Thank you. Brookeethleen (talk) 01:50, 28 February 2014 (UTC)
- Malawian food crisis start-class, ranked top-importance. This article, as noted on the article page, is currently out-of-date and only has information up to 2005. I plan on updating the article to reflect the changes that have occurred since 2005. I would also like to look more deeply at the food crisis of the early 2000s and expound on the political, social, economic, and agricultural causes and the cultural, health, and policy effects of the food crisis. For more information about my plan to update the article, please look at the talk page of Malawian food crisis. I plan on drawing from scholarly sources (articles from academic journals about the early 2000s food crisis), reports from NGOs (UN, ActionAid, etc.), and some news articles. Although I would, ideally, like to draw from only scholarly sources, not much information is available about the current food crisis beyond news articles and some reports from NGOs. Please let me know if you have any feedback on my proposed edits, or any suggestions as to what other reliable sources I could look at. I am working on this page as part of my work as a Poverty, Justice, and Human Capabilities minor at Rice University.Avw1 (talk) 14:57, 25 February 2014 (UTC)
- Healthcare in Malawi start-class, ranked top-importance. I would like to restructure this article and add a number of more specific sections that are clearly articulated and cited. There are a number of scholarly/reliable sources that I would like to draw from, one example is the world fact book for updates data on health indicators. I am a student that is very interested in this topic and am working on this article for a class at Rice University. Any input/guidance is greatly appreciated. A more comprehensive contribution proposal can be found on my user page. Brookeethleen (talk) 00:01, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
- Multi-Party National Convention of South Africa start-class, ranked top-importance. I created two related articles, the first is about a consequential meeting of political parties in South Africa that took place on 16 and 17 August 2023 and the second is about the resultant agreement, and my intention is to provide a basis for editors to add and enhance its contents in future. Here follows the links to the articles: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Multi-Party_National_Convention_of_South_Africa
- List of kingdoms in Africa throughout history list-class, ranked mid-importance. I could do with some help regarding Comparison as there are so many that have enough material on them to grade them but it's too much work for me to do alone. I'm aware it is WP:SYN however I do think that this should be one of the exceptions to this rule as it adds a lot to the article and can't really be abused.
