I am trying to create a page for a notable person called Aalok Pradhan who works in a Film industry for more than 9 years. He worked as a Director, Film editor & VFX editor. He worked under big companies like Red Chillies Entertainment, Pixeo Studios & All Ad Avatar. He did many projects in his career and has won Awards for editing & management. But still Wikipedia is deleting the page even after giving reliable sources. I have seen many pages in Wikipedia which do not have proper sources but still manage to run on Wikipedia, how?

About other seemingly non-notable articles: Yes, they exist. Some are not notable. Concerning those, please read WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. Concerning those without good sources, there may be sources and the subject actually be notable, but those sources have not been added. Subjects should be, at least, "verifiable".
About your subject, Aalok Pradhan: I do not think he is notable. I can find no reliable media sources that discuss him at all. It doesn't matter what he did or who he is. It matters if the media discusses him in detail. Please see WP:42.
About the image File:Aalok Pradhan.jpeg. Please tell me how this is your own work. Where did you get the image?

A range block is required here. Its definitely a registered user of some kind. I don't know how to do them. Also, if a CU is available, he should block any related accounts. Thse are the IPs used so far:

Based on my limited knowledge of range blocks, using those five (and the block calculator) it would block up to 134,217,728 users. Going from 81.154.132.180/198 would be about 128. Having said that I have never actually done one. --kelapstick(bainuu) 03:05, 28 December 2015 (UTC)

Hi, Anna. Re this guy: maybe I should mention that I deliberately block characters like that without leaving them a talkpage notice. Firstly because I don't want to dignify/feed them, per WP:DENY, and secondly because I don't want the "name" in my contribs list. I mean, face it, it's not like they're gonna make a bona fide unblock request (possibly a trolling one). I have a few ideas. Is there any way to find out if there is a greater number of stubs associated with a specific topic area? For example, are a majority of stubs related to geography? I'm going to guesstimate that the most stubs are found in geography-related articles. My second guess would be species-related (which is probably wrong), followed by either politics or entertainment. It used to be easy to check this stuff. I think the old toolserver let you check the number of stubs by project in a table/list format, but now the new labs server seems to be down all the time. Triggering the edit filter

Hi Anna, Today, i edited the page Natalie Pinkham, and added a reference from The Daily Mail (a newspaper in the UK)'s online website using ProveIt (which i use to add references) for my edit, however somehow i triggered edit filter 702. It said that it was for "Clipboard Hijacking" or whatever that is, when i had just entered this source into ProveIt. It then allowed me to save the edit after cutting down the link, because what i had cut and pasted into ProveIt, it had unnecessary things on it, such as (follow us on twitter @TheDailyMail or something like that), however somehow i triggered filter 702 again, but it took no action against me. What I wanted to ask you is how did i trigger this filter for the second time, and what is "Clipboard Hijacking"? Could i be warned/blocked for this in the future when i didn't intend to do so?.

(talk page stalker) @Class455fan1: For future reference, you can report edit filter false positives at Wikipedia:Edit filter/False positives. There's more information about this particular filter at Special:AbuseFilter/702. The notes there explain that clipboard hijacking is a result of copying text on certain websites. Additional text (such as a link back to the original article) is appended to what was copied. I examined the log for your second edit (Special:AbuseLog/14187506), and it looks like there was still superfluous text (starting with "Read more:" followed by a URL), which is why you were warned again. I wouldn't worry if it happens again. Certain edit filters will actually prevent an offending edit from being saved, but this isn't one of them. clpo13(talk) 09:14, 5 January 2016 (UTC)

IP leaving personal attacks on my page

Hi Anna, Really sorry to bother you again, but i reverted an edit by an IP on New Year Live, as it was unsourced, and i left a warning on the IP's talk page, then he sent me a message on my talk page saying "Why don't you get a life you sicko". I then left the IP a level 2 warning telling the user not to personally attack other editors, but he reverted the edit i made to my talk page, and added to the message "Fucking twat". I will be going on a 5 day Wikibreak from tomorrow because I have major exams, and i am using the break enforcer code (won't ask an Admin to block me, because i want to try and keep a clean block log), so i won't be able to log on, but can you please, if needed take action? I really don't want offensive messages like this being posted on my talk page while I'm away. I did say to the user that if he does it one more time, then I would take report the user, however since I'm going on Wikibreak tomorrow i came to you instead. You can see the diff here [[6]] Thanks. Leon Mann issue

I am writing regarding Leon Mann and am really struggling to understand the problem. Apologies if I have written on thewrong thread but I am relatively new so hopefully you can forgive that.

I heard what you said about sources, but struggle to think what more you expect, particularly regarding these two, where he did extensive documentaries interviewing Jermaine Defoe and Andy Cole, are these press releases not clear enough? [1] [2]

That is the BBC and ITV, two of the world's best-known broadcasters, so that seems very strong proof to me, then there is writing for the Guardian and work for the PFA that is clearly linked to him: [22] [23] [24]

If you look at the wikipedia pages of these journalists they have far less proof/links that this yet still have pages up and running: [25] [26], some explanation, clarification so we can look forward and work together on this would be great.

I sort of understand your point but if you want proof of somebody working in an industry surely nearly 50 BBC by-lines is enough proof? I'm not connected to him, I just want to expand wikipedia and see its levels of accuracy improved. I am looking to get it more updated for journalism as a whole. If you want media discussing a journalist isn't it obvious that this happens VERY rarely, because journalists are always interviewing other people? On that logic it would be almost impossible to have any journalist on wiki. Upon seeing the WP:AN request related to a user block and seeing the username, I had to smile; my first thought was "this could technically qualify for {{Uw-ublock-famous}}" but figured the block was actually for vandalism or something of the like, so [7] really made me laugh. Hi Nyttend. I blocked for ublock-famous before knowing the history of the editor. The joke is on me, probably. I am trying to get him unblocked and into being a productive editor. Kerala Houseboats : Houseboats in Alleppey under the Reference Category

Dear Anna Frodesiak,

        I have recently added a point under the Reference Section in the Wikipedia page "Kerala Backwaters". The point that I have mentioned was Kerala Houseboats : Houseboats in Alleppey (with a hyperlink to Kerala Houseboats).
    No sooner after saving the message, I received a message stating that it has been removed as it contains promotional or advertising links.
   Under the wiki page of "Kerala Backwaters" then in that case i believe that there are other promotional and advertising links added by other users for eg. under the Reference section Point No 4, Point No 10 and Point No 12 should be considered as content which is used for advertising purpose.
 I have just added the point about the biggest houseboat which is located in Alleppey which I believe would be very much fruitful and useful for the users as its truly the biggest houseboat located in Alleppey, Kerala and if you could review our website you could find that we are not misleading the consumers in any manner when it comes to Houseboats in Alleppey.

Hi Sparkzkreative. Yes, if that is true, it could be in the article. Please find reliable sources to support that fact and add it. Please do not add the actual website for the company though. That is not a good source and makes it appear that you work for the company and are trying to promote it by adding the fact about your company to the article using the webiste as a sources so that others can get in contact with your company and hire them. Hi Sphilbrick. Okay. I am still not clear on the purpose of that OTRS. From what I understand, it is a system whereby the user emails permission to use text or images. I am not clear on why the text in this post would be in an OTRS. I guess it could be the owner of the houseboat company emailing to prove he is the owner. Anyhow, no worries. One aspect of OTRS is permission, and that is one area I used to work in but there are literally dozens of other queues. One of the largest is info-en, which is where people write to Wikipedia because they don't know about help desks and ask many questions, such as “why is the article about me being deleted” or “how do I write an article about myself?” Many agents handle general questions such as that. On occasion, someone will post a question there and ask on-wiki. That's what happened in this case. Not only was it the same question, it opened with “Dear Anna Frodesiak” which was why I contacted you.
By the way, if you ever find yourself interested in helping in other ways, there is a serious need for OTRS volunteers, and you would be a good one. To partially repeat myself, some of the question are very much like one would see at the Tea House, other queues are permissions only, and then there are queues that I don't handle, such as legal and others.--S Philbrick(Talk) 02:59, 19 January 2016 (UTC)

Kerala Houseboats : Houseboats in Alleppey under the Reference Category

Dear Anna,

    The user id sparkzkreative is operated by only one person and thats me. Myself Vijesh Pillai. I have no issues about removing my first 2 articles from the Wikipedia section as it contains advertising or promotional material.
    But the third edit which I had made, for Kerala Houseboats : Houseboats in Alleppey with a link given to (http://www.skahouseboats.com), I do not find anything much promotional as people searching for Kerala Backwaters would be definitely interested into know about the Houseboats of Kerala, and I had just added a point in the Reference category. If you could review our website in comparison to the other websites that I had mentioned in my previous talk you could find that by no way we are misleading or deceiving the customers of Wikipedia in any manner.

As for your company having a mention there, please read what I wrote above about reliable sources. You have an obvious conflict of interest and are here to get your website into that article. I do not think your reason for doing this is mainly to help readers of the article learn. It think it is mainly to improve your business and promote your company. First, accounts cannot actually be deleted (servers-wise) so I suggest you simply occupy yourself with someone else. Second, consider improving the current article instead as this will be better instead of actually deleting. To learn how Wikipedia works, see WP:Welcome and WP:Your first article. Hi Anna, I am not being paid to edit the page, this is my page and wanted to remove all the unwanted and false information from my page. I am trying to edit my page and wanted to add more information to it, but unfortunately every time I try to edit the false information it get back to the same information which was posted earlier. Its being quite some time since I am trying to come up with a solution but not getting through. Can you suggest solutions to fix this account.   • "...I am not being paid to edit the page..."

Be honest. You are paid to be part of that team. Part of your job is to edit the page. Is that right?

Hi Anna, I need your help. This user created from a redirect London Buses route 5, however it was reverted back for not being notable. I then explained to the user why it has been reverted, trying to not discourage him from editing, but it appears he has now been discouraged. I can see why, because he spent a lot of his time editing that article and it all got wiped out by my revert, but you have to comply with the rules here. Can you please give him some advice and try to make him not discouraged any more as you are more experienced then me.. About 13preneur

Hi Anna. I trust that you are well.

I have clearly not understood the structure that wikipedia uses. I've just realised that you have "User: xyz" and "Article", the former being strictly a userspace for the logged-in user and the latter being a searchable heading in wikipedia. Now, what I was intending to do with the piece that you deleted, was to create an Article and I have clearly violated "User Page" terms.

Please assist with the following, what do I need to do to create an "Article" as a "User"? Do I need to re-create my "User Page"?

Hi Gtp13, and welcome. As a user, you may create an article, but that article subject must be notable. See WP:42. 13preneur does not seem to be notable. That is why I deleted the content at your userpage. If you wish to make an article about 13preneur (which I am guessing you are associated with and wish to promote), you must first find lots and lots of media references. Can you find media references? Okay, here goes: Sixteen page watchers and half a dozen participants and ultimately the community prefers Cannabis dispensaries. Viriditas archived at 01:14, 24 January 2016 ‎after there was rough consensus at 21:15, 23 January 2016. Can you live with it? I figure if you can see one of two movies, and they're close to equally good, it can't be a big mistake no matter which you choose. There's a good case for both page names. It is not the end of the world how that turned out.

Also the archiving, removing that clutter helps others join in. People otherwise think, what a mess, and stay out of it. And, Wikipedia is incredibly transparent and editors are smart and nosy. They found the facts.

One good question I've been wondering about, and I invite our friend Viriditas to weigh-in, is if this article is about the US, and the Dutch coffeeshop one is about dispensaries there, then where is the international coverage supposed to go? It can't fit into US because that would be out of scope, right? The US article AfC is about that particular article in its current state. I'm kind of lost about how it should all go. Actually, maybe the wikiproject is the place to talk about that. Maybe a parent article is the way to go, with main, child articles about the US and Holland. Not sure. I appreciate that, today, for this moment, a bunch of people decided (wrongly because of lack of facts) that they prefer the name cannabis to marijuana. I didn't need a poll to know that. But there is a bigger issue at hand. The issue is... what is marijuana? what is cannabis? and what is hemp?
If you look at the tobacco article it's an excellent model. They do not call tobacco "Nicotiana" because it is not. Just like Tobacco is a product prepared from the flowers of the tobacco plant Marijuana is a product prepared from the flowers of the marijuana plant. Moreover, and this is new, it is a component of the plant which must contain at least 0.03% THC (lots of references).
Then I had a bit of an epiphany. Here it is:
It's fine... the poll was meaningless. Once I establish the context and references I will make my case.

List of bus routes in London requires protection

Hi Anna, In the past 24 hours, this page has been completely blanked by two IP's. One blanked it last night and got blocked. I then requested that the page be protected but someone declined it saying that "A block is enough" despite the fact that the IP is static, so its address can be changed by restarting its router, as i found out when i had to restart mine. I don't edit with my IP, however i did notice the change as i had logged out before and after i restarted my router. The vandal then probably did this, and restarted blanking the page with a new IP. The page needs protection urgently. Im not going to the RPP page otherwise they would decline it again, so thats why I'm writing to you. Can you please do something about this? Thanks! Class455fan1, if he comes back as a different IP and does the same thing, we should consider protection at that time. It was actually left blank for twenty minutes at one point. Pot Malls

Aloha, Anna. I hope you are enjoying the lovely tropical Hainan climate. I would like to bring to your attention a few things I have observed. In 2015, there was some mention in the local Colorado press about a developer and consultant to the cannabis industry who wished to build cannabis storefronts in Trinidad, Colorado. He initially faced some opposition but eventually prevailed. On January 14th, his company published a press release, and from what I can tell, a marketing campaign of sorts followed giving him additional press coverage in Colorado and advertising his business opportunity to potential clients who would wish to setup a cannabis business in Trinidad. Three days later, a new account was created on Wikipedia, focusing on the creation of an article about a "marijuana dispensary". The editor also wrote about and linked to Pot Malls.

The same day the account was created, the new user created a news release on Wikinews about Pot Malls and uploaded a blueprint of the proposed Pot Mall to Commons, claiming that the copyright belonged to him as the owner. It is possible that this license is simply incorrect. Finally, the user edited other articles to add mention of the Pot Mall. I am wondering if there is a COI at work here. The company appears to be pushing heavily for the Pot Mall and is looking for potential clients. In the past, we have seen editors with a COI create coatrack articles to hide promotional material deep inside the article. There are several issues, such as the use of off-wiki IRC to canvass support, but that's not important at the moment. Could you first take a look at this link and determine the validity of the commons licensing and the use of Wikinews? If the user has an undeclared COI, they shouldn't be writing about cannabis. If, on the other hand, this so-called "campaign" is simply attributable to a coincidence, then please disregard my concerns. Thanks for your attention. Viriditas (talk) 05:31, 25 January 2016 (UTC)

I just got in and will look further later. I clicked a few links for a preliminary check and this strikes me as odd. It is an image owned by Trinidad Holdings Company, LLC and uploaded as CC 4.0 by, yes, not Trinidad Holdings Company. Also, the Description section is pretty full of zip codes and websites. No, you're right to be suspicious. Generally, two types of people arrive at Wikipedia and put together such an article full of references and all: someone who edited as an IP or had/has another account, or someone who is connected with the organization.
My guess, and just a guess? He is related to the organization, came here to promote or at least draw attention to it or get coverage about it to help the cause, but didn't know that promoting in such a way is not allowed, particularly when undeclared. I guess that it is now apparent to him that undeclared WP:PAID editors are strictly not allowed and that WP:COI editing needs some reading before continuing and that he will own up and be just and moral and good and we can move forward with him as a welcome editor. But that is just a guess. It is also possible that he has a conflict of interest, will keep it secret, be horribly scummy as a person and hurt Wikipedia, its volunteers, and himself in terms of karma, end up detected and booted, ultimately having no influence over the article(s). It is also possible this is just a coincidence.
From my perspective the way forward is openness and assumption of good faith. I write about Hainan. It doesn't mean I want to promote it. Sure, maybe he is connected to this mall, but wants to see it covered at Wikipedia because he believes in it.
So, Potguru, please do not be offended. We get a ton of this stuff here and just want to get to the bottom of it. If you are paid in any way to get mention of this mall into articles, please say so. If you say you didn't know, I'll believe you. You can declare and continue to edit. If you have no connection and just think the mall is a good thing and wanted to get mention of it here and at other parts of the project, fine too. Just be upfront and all is well. If, though, you are one of the central mall business people, only care about money, and don't mind deceiving us to get the mall into Wikipedia, please reconsider for these reasons: It could mean a public relations disaster. You would get booted. The community would have extreme prejudice against mall-related links and content. The mall will likely have an article and become a high-attention article anyway, which means promotion of it at the article or related articles would be removed and the contributors found and booted. Hi Potguru. I'm so sorry to hear about your computer being hacked. I guess you mean your email password was figured out by someone. I get those from friends all the time. When I ask, they say their password was something connected to their life. Try this: two-digit number+misspelled word+two-digit number like (82disppensary82). Easy to remember and variations can be used for other accounts (like 83disppensary83 or 82outtlet82). I think those are really hard to hack because they are a mix of numbers and letter, contain no real word, and have nothing to do with your life.
Great to hear about your not being paid by anyone. If I may ask, are you related to the pot mall in any way? It's okay if you are. Knowing would be a good thing. Also, it could mean good access to images and info.
Also, that image upload you made with the 4.0 license, that is owned by the the THC company, right?
As for the redirect, I just don't know anymore. Should it redirect to a US-centric article. Also, Coffeeshop (Netherlands) exists, so why not there?
I don't know myself but I did and do contend they are different. Legal regulated dispensaries in Colorado are not like coffeehouses which are, basically, illegal.

Hi Anna, That is not my image. It was supplied by the company in a press release and was marked for redistribution. My relationship to the article is that I first saw it on the local news and I thought it was cool. Then I started looking at wikipedia and discovered there was no article on marijuana dispensaries and so I thought I'd write one and "voila" here we be. (I have not touched that article in any way in many many many many days because people got all up in arms about all kinds of things).

So I was thinking about writing about this subject on a local basis... a Colorado centric article about the differences between marijuana and hemp using this as a basis:

Hi Deb. Me, give you guidance? At Wikipedia, you are my senior by many years and much experience. :) I will try anyhow. If you change the block to "cannot access talk", you can go back to the talk page and change the parameter "notalk=" to "notalk=yes". That will change the brown to the pink. If you make the original block with "cannot access talk", then just set "notalk=yes".
I actually do not use that, but maybe should. If I go back and remove talk access, I add the following handmade notice to leave a paper trail of what I did:

When making the original block with talk access revoked, I should consider simply using spamu with "notalk=yes".
Oddly, when doing the same thing with the soablock template, the pink version does not say why the block was made in the first place.
Anyhow, the bottom line is, when talk access is in a revoked state, some sort of message is needed below, or in place of a template containing "... you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}}below..."

Hi Monkeymindtales. I did not claim the content sounded like an advert. Someone else did that. I removed copy pasted content (See WP:COPYVIO).
To be honest, I think you are here writing about your book, not for the reasons you state above, but rather to promote your book. You are strongly discouraged from doing that. As for the images, I suggest that you allow them to be deleted at Commons. If you do not, anyone can have them for their own commercial purposes. If and when the draft becomes an article, you can upload low resolution versions the images as non-free to Wikipedia to be used exclusively in the article. This will protect them.

I actually just make little notepad macros. Updating is a good plan, and if we change the layout, then updating may not be so easy. See List of casinos in Canada to understand just how useless these tables are when not maintained. That casino article is now basically just a historical record. Some assistance...?

Hello Anna, how are you? I remember a few years you came to my talk page and requested that I add edit summaries to my changes. Apparently I wasn't doing that enough back then. (I'm at over 90% now). Anyway, I've come across an editor who edits many of the 800+ pages I have on my watch list and they rarely add edit summaries. Xtools shows less than 50%, (I don't even know if that is right). I had added an edit summary template to this users talk page but to no avail, so after a few weeks I tried engaging them in discussion but they still won't budge. They seem to feel edit summaries in general aren't necessary and will only add them when they "feel it's pertinent". It's not as if they're new either... 10 years/12,000 edits. So perhaps you could use that considerable charm you're so capable of and have a chat with them? They can be found here; User talk:Neovu79#February 2016. Thank you in advance. In 10 years of editing WP, I have never come across someone who has taken such a large interest in the edits that I have contributed to as much as theWOLFchild. Until quite recently I never had my edits reverted simply for not making notes. While I understand guidelines that WP has in place to protect pages from vandalism, accuracy, etc, and though out my time editing, I have had very few edits reverted and have stayed clear of making disruptive edits and controversy. I find it hard to believe that not leaving notes, can be disruptive, and is worthy of such attention by this user. I find it very simple to click on the "diff" link to see changes that are made to pages I'm watching, when notes have not been made and have never had any issues or qualms doing so. Just to be clear, I am not accusing you of "disruptive editing". Just as I advised you on your talk page that I was not accusing you of "vandalism" when you made that claim. I simply asked that you leave a brief summary with all your edits, to make life easier for your fellow editors. Expecting everyone to "click of the "'diff'" for every single edit is unreasonable and precisely one of the reasons we have this feature. It makes going through your watchlist a very onerous task, especially if your internet happens to be slow that day. Edit summaries also aid editors and admins in finding particular edits when searching out diffs for reports to pages such as ANI, SPI, AIV, 3RR, etc. You can use shorthand and acronyms for the more routine types of edits, (most of them really) and it just isn't that mush to ask for. - theWOLFchild 03:07, 16 March 2016 (UTC)

Username block on Pankajchoudhary IPS

I'm not sure this was an appropriate username block. True, there is a Pankaj Choudhary who is an Indian politician, but there is also a (far lesser known) Pankaj Choudhary (police officer) who is a member of the Indian Police Service (IPS). (I know you've been actively cleaning up the mess on that page.) The blocked user very much appears to be the latter Choudhary, as his sole contributions have been to write about himself. Not the most useful user Wikipedia has ever seen, but I think his username was a legitimate use of his own name, with the IPS acronym to distinguish himself from the politician. Hi, WikiDan61. You may be right. But here is my reasoning:
I blocked the following:
They were all editing articles whose subject is Pankaj Choudhary. I used Template:Uw-ublock-famous and softblocked them. A softblock allows them to create a new account without requesting an unblock. It means they have the option of simply registering a new username or proving their identity and keeping their current username.
Policy states "...editing under a username which represents an individual cannot be a violation unless they appear to be impersonating a notable living person...". Both of the Pankaj Choudhary's with articles at Wikipedia are living and both are notable. The fact that they were editing Pankaj Choudhary articles should suggest to an article visitor that they were either Pankaj Choudhary or impersonating him. If you are mistaken in citing User:Pankajchoudhary IPS when you meant User:Pankajchaudhary ips, I acknowledge the latter never edited the policeman article, but only the politician article. However, he did draft User:Pankajchaudhary ips/sandbox, about the policeman. If I were the real policeman Pankaj Choudhary, I would see him as trying to impersonate me. I'll get back into using "how dare you" and "don't you know who I am" and "don't question my authority". Seriously, thank you. You're very sweet. And I know that on the Internet, nobody knows you're a tree, but I know you must be Hyperion.  
As for BCD, well, I sort of feel bad for him, actually. I mean, for us, we share the nuissance. We just click. We spend ten seconds. He spends hours. Why does he try to edit? To help build the encyclopedia. In doing so, he draws other editors away from building the encyclopedia. The irony. And why does he sock? Because his emotions got the better of him. Life is short and he's a human being with a short life. He is wasting his precious hours. It is like a kind of oubliette he's sentenced himself to. WP:NFCC #1

Hey. Recent discussions at Talk:Kim Jong-un reminded me that I wanted to talk with you about this edit you made to the most recent RfC. I did not want to do so at the time of the RfC as there was a small chance it could have been perceived as polluting the RfC. I did not want that to happen. Also, your comments of late show an interest in further understanding the WP:NFCC policy.

In the comments you made in that edit, you addressed all aspects of WP:NFCC #1 except one. That one is really the crux of the debate about the use of a non-free image for Kim Jong-un. The policy says, emphasis mine, "Non-free content is used only where no free equivalent is available, or could be created, that would serve the same encyclopedic purpose." In this case, an important underpinning of the issue is that Foundation, which has taken a very clear stance vis-a-vis the use of non-free images of living people. From Foundation:Resolution:Licensing policy; we "may not allow material where we can reasonably expect someone to upload a freely licensed file for the same purpose, such as is the case for almost all portraits of living notable individuals." The gist of this is the Foundation considers it reasonable to expect a free image can be created for a living individual. Whether such an image exists now is immaterial. The last measurement of whether to allow non-free images has never been whether a free image exists now.

We have made exceptions for living individuals in narrow circumstances. Currently, apparent consensus exists to allow the use of non-free images for living individuals only if they are incarcerated for life, are famously reclusive (as supported by secondary sources, not just what we think), or on the run from the law. We've never carved out an exception for a living person who does not fall into one of those categories.

I encourage you to consider and understand the ramifications of the "...or could be created" aspect of WP:NFCC #1. Wikipedia is a free, as in libre not gratis encyclopedia. Everything...everything...you type that is included in the project is done so under a license that permits libre reuse. We allow non-free material (which is always gratis, not libre) in limited circumstances only because not doing so would significantly harm our ability to be encyclopedic. We have to draw the line in the sand somewhere. If we allow the use of non-free images when free images haven't been found, but could be created, we open the floodgates to a vast number of images, significantly compromising our libre mission. --Hammersoft (talk) 13:30, 25 March 2016 (UTC)

Hammersoft, I see your point. Having missed 10a before, I should not take such a bold position. It could be considered uninformed. :) But was aware of #1. That "...or could be created..." really irks me in this case. That means "could", within the next 50 years (he's 33), become available, right? This is a special case. He's not reclusive. He is just head of, and inside of, an entirely reclusive country. We're not talking about some new dodo actor on Prince of Thrones or some other daft teen show. Those guys want their pic out there. Kim is in control of what pics of him get out. So, it's up to us to debate the likelihood, right? The crux of "could" is likelihood, n'est pas? If debates are always about that, then no floodgates open. True? I just woke up so I may be waaaaaaayyyyy off on this one. Hi Hammersoft. I stuck it in my coffee and it was bitter! :) You say "Even if unlikely...". Sure, so many photos are taken, but how many would be given away for free? The crux of "...no free equivalent..." is again likelihood. Photos of Kim are high-value. AP doesn't do charity work. Tourists don't get pics of Kim. Most North Korean probably don't own cameras, and those who do wouldn't dare take a pic of him or have an opportunity to do so. And if they did, would they give it away, online, with a PD license?   • Any speculation of the likelihood is just that; speculation. We know for a fact that images can be taken of him. In fact, quite a lot of images are taken of him. That makes it possible. But honestly, we're discussing the specifics here, which isn't really what I was getting at in my original post. We have a mission here. It's a free content mission. Hi User:Hammersoft. I probably just don't get it, and there is evidence for that. The last RfC was overwhelmingly against a non-free. I trust the judgement of the community and you. What is likely most important here is that I don't go pushing for a non-free at the Kim article and end up convincing a bunch of others who also just don't get it who then join in a call for a non-free.   • Well, I'm not after your vote :) Really I mean to be abstract, and not specific to Kim Jong-un. You've been an administrator for several years now. I'm not saying "you should know better" or anything the like; there is no way one administrator can know and understand the entire corpus of Wikipedia policy and guidelines. They are, taken as a whole, poorly written, contradictory, and fraught with misunderstandings. Rather, you've showed an interest in non-free issues and I wanted to help pass on some knowledge. When an administrator steps into a discussion, other editors have a tendency to view their comments as having more weight. Whether that is right or wrong, an administrator needs to be careful about policy debates they enter into. I know you're careful. template|extreme wealth

Hello: I posted a TFD on your new template, but reverted because I'm unsure on how to proceed beyond the first step (e.g., the tfd template did not render a discussion page). But I intend to proceed a bit later. Why? The "Extreme" (a loaded term) in "Extreme wealth" is hopelessly POV. "Extreme" in what regard? There will always be a top-end (and bottom-end) to any measurement: "Extreme wealth", "Extreme income", "Extreme return on investment", "Extremely high buildings", "Extremely small oceans", "Extreme poverty", "Extreme uniformity", etc. are not encyclopedic topics. I'm not clear on how "userfy" is helpful (in general). But given that simple {{tl:Wealth]] got the ax, there is even less utility in Extreme wealth. Our article wealth defines it as "abundance of valuable resources or valuable material possessions." Is "extreme wealth" the "extreme abundance of valuable resources or valuable material possessions". While I'm not in the 1%, I am extremely wealthy compared to nearly all other individuals in the world. Just where is there a cut-off on measuring "extreme"? Thanks. – S. Hi S. Rich. Maybe we cannot see whether or not the navbox is POV. Maybe I am anti-wealth accumulation, and you are pro. I live in Haikou where I see some pretty extreme poverty (which can be defined without POV as people with, well, very, very little money), while you refer to your wealth accumulation (according to your userpage) as a defining characteristic. Maybe we are not the best people to decide.
Aside: Perhaps you could give me some insight. I've always wanted to ask someone who is relatively extremely wealthy. There are studies that show that people with many times more than median wealth are not many times happier. Would you say that is true? I hope you live in Haikou#Guomao. Even if you do not, you are extremely wealthy compared to someone suffering from extreme famine. Aside from that, China is an example of how "wealth" has brought hundreds of millions out of extreme poverty. Interestingly, many Chinese are now seeking to get US university degrees, and US universities are catering to them. The result is increased tuition costs for students and more wealth for universities. It is all part of the dynamic between hundreds of millions of consumers and suppliers. (The US "balance of trade" is actually a big circle.) Am I "less wealthy" when I buy a nice shirt from Nordstroms, and is Nordstroms "more wealthy" because they have some of my money? Also, is the Chinese (or Vietnamese or Pakistani etc) textile worker more wealthy because they have some of my money, via a convoluted route? No matter the answer, the bosses of those workers are now able to send their children West for an education. The families will be very proud and happy when their children graduate. Will they be extremely proud or extremely happy – who knows? With these thoughts in mind I reassert my point that putting the subjective "extreme" into WP is POV. Hi S. Rich. I thought we were talking about our possible POVs regarding the term "extreme wealth".   Your post instead appears to be about how China's workers are somewhat wealthier for having the good fortune to earn US money from making Nordstroms shirts while Chinese students are causing US universities to be more expensive.
In reality, of course, university tuition increases are hardly the result of an influx of students from China, nor a dynamic between consumers and suppliers. You have omitted the main reason: States now pay a smaller share of tutution due to lower taxation on corporations and the extremely wealthy. Students now hold record debt because of that. Interest payments on that record debt help make those with extreme wealth even wealthier.
If you still believe "extreme wealth" is POV, please TfD the template. No hard feelings at all. I see it as no more POV than Extreme poverty, Extreme weather, or Extreme commuting. These terms are well-used too along with "extreme XXXXX" all over Wikipedia and the media. Plus, "extreme wealth" is used in plenty of well-sourced content throughout Wikipedia. Anyhow, you may indeed be right, but now more than ever, I think we are both POV.   Maybe the community ought to decide. My position is probably that "extreme wealth" is not POV, but rather just subjective or fuzzy. However, if Extreme poverty exists and is defined by good sources, why not extreme wealth? It was a redirect of another page for a person of a similar name, Jody Leigh Miller, and they moved on with a new article. I am assuming they didn't know how to change it.
